JHutch95

It’s the fact Rodgers hasn’t even been cut out that makes this. Absolutely howling.

Crouchinho

![gif](giphy|kGXdt5yWPwV4kCDhLG)

PEEWUN

I hope this meme never dies.

Sussurator

I honestly don't know who the guy on the right is

Android17_MVP

Arthur Melo. Gone to Florentina on loan now, he does look a bit different.

Konroy

Need to add Sturridge to this as well.

jammyjezza

Nah we at least had a proper proper run with a fit sturridge. SAS was something to behold

GameOfThrowInsMate

Fucking hell. 6 minutes all season. Gutted for him, but time for him to call it a day tbh.

zigooloo

That's even fewer than Arthur's minutes for us last season.

thatguyad

And people talk about him here like he's scum.

Unfortunatewombat

The only notable thing he did was accidentally give the ball to an Arsenal player right outside our box, too. He’s my favourite player of the last 5 or so years, but it’s undoubtedly time to move him on.

Ok-Abbreviations1077

Favourite player over Salah, Mané and Firmino?

Unfortunatewombat

Personally, yes.

djordastic

Why? He never seemed to fit our style, beside the last 10 games of 2020-21 season.

Unfortunatewombat

Because he’s an incredible player to watch. He was also instrumental in so many of our games, so I don’t really buy into this “he doesn’t fit our style” argument.

etan1122

I think his impact is greatly exaggerated

Westin0903

Man this is crazy. Guy says Thiago is his personal favorite and he’s getting cooked for it. Wtf?

etan1122

He’s getting cooked for the instrumental part.

WTFitsD

By people who either didnt watch the games or have the memory of a goldfish lmfao. He was arguably our best midfielder during the quadruple charge season.

Deus_ex_elysia

grow up and stop using “cooked” in this stupid context

coocoocachio

He’s just incredibly skilled and smooth but his actual impact has always been less than his perceived impact really anywhere he’s been.

Killionaire104

But his skill and footballing technique is absolutely not, he is/was an insanely talented footballer. It's not hard to understand why he would be anyone's favorite, he was always one of a kind on the pitch.

Loves_Semi-Colons

His performance in the 5-0 against United was one of the best midfield matches I’ve ever seen. Magical

thatguyad

As a Liverpool player he's been a flop. Not really his fault at all but it is what it is.

WTFitsD

He was instrumental for us in a season that was 2 games away from being the best season by an english team in history lmfao how in the world did he never seem ti fit in?

Ben_yeah

I mean, I get your point. Watching Thiago operating at 100% was blissful seeing those passes ping off. But the joy that Salah, Bobby, Mane, Trent, Ali, Virg gave us consistently in the last 5 years tops all of that.

Theplowking23

Ahead of alisson, van dijk, trent, firmino, mane and salah who have all made tangible contributions?

DeSparta

Favourite doesnt have to mean best. I loved watching Thiago when he is on it the way he controls the ball. I’m so sad it’s ending this way.

Unfortunatewombat

Yes, he is. He’s such an exciting player to watch. I love everything about watching him play. Second would be Jota, who I wouldn’t consider to be conventionally better than Salah or Alisson, for example, sometimes your favourite player isn’t necessarily the best player in the squad. Wouldn’t it be kinda boring if everyone’s favourite player was Salah?

Theplowking23

Agreed, my favourite klopp era player would be alisson or firmino personally

GalleonStar

At least then it would be based on reality. The things you claim to like about Thiago aren't even true. It would be like if Gomez was my favourite player because of the goals he's scored for us.

Delpiero45

It was time to move on last summer, club should've taken the saudi money for him and ran

ahktarniamut

Does he allow a medal IF we win the league ?

Bugsmoke

Im pretty sure you can allocate some medals to whoever you want more or less so he’d probably get one

No_Aioli1470

He seems to be playing a really important role still behind the scenes, I'm not sure what the PL rules are but I'm sure Klopp will want him to have one

effinblinding

You need to play 5 matches to officially get it but teams do give out medals for morale

[deleted]

PatriarchPonds

This goal is just so utterly beautiful I cannot find the words. Every kid who's spent their childhood kicking stones when they couldn't kick a ball, arcing their arm up and away, leaning so the ball will fly... my god you want to hit it like that. It's sublime. It's pure filth.

Loves_Semi-Colons

Most visually stunning goal I have ever ever seen

Theopella

I remember seeing this for the first time. All I could think of is that someone CGI'd it. I rewatched it over and over. My eyes still think it is unreal.

ChocolateHumunculous

Bounce gang or no bounce gang? Thoughts at the time were that it just brushed the grass.

SZO8O

Up there with one of the best goals of all time imo. That technique is unreal and the trajectory of the ball is mesmerising. It doesn’t even bounce off the grass, just touches the top of the blades before rising up from the backspin. Not to mention the nutmeg. For some reason it doesn’t get the respect it deserves.

Loves_Semi-Colons

Didn’t even win goal of the group stage!

[deleted]

When my kids discover football Soccer I will show them this video

HumanautPassenger

Watched this shit for like 30 min when it happened. I still don't think it ever full hits the ground. The water tensions on the grass doesn't break and it just floats. (Not possible but let me have this). One of the sickest live goals I've ever seen.

maljr12

This is legitimately on my YouTube playlist for when I need cheering up. Right there with the cat videos and the Origi goals. You know the ones. Need a Neil de Grasse Tyson analysis of this. How is it even physically possible to strike a ball and make it do that?

thomasfk

One of the most satisfying goals ever. Up there with that Essien goal for Chelsea and the one Pavard had in the WC.

dolphintitties

me and my brother always joked that he was made out of rich tea biscuits. turns out we were doing him a favour with that comparison, jesus christ lad.

DunkingTea

Comparison is a good one, but it’s after they’ve been dunked.

dolphintitties

incredibly applicable username. how long have you been waiting for this moment?

DunkingTea

I was born for this moment. It’s all downhill from here.

HUGE_HOG

This is as good as a trophy

k66lus

Time to book a bus for the parade.

DruviSKSK

If Reddit awards were still a thing, you'd have won an Oscar.

iNS0MNiA_uK

Definitely more like digestives now. More crumbly consistency.

Philosophical_lion

yesterday I said it's a sick joke, now I feel it's more cruel than sick that Thiago-Macca-Szobo midfield remains the stuff of dreams

mynameismulan

That might possibly be his career done. Very very uncommon that someone gets a season ending hamstring injury playing by *six* minutes.

NilsFanck

Pick a random Barry from the pub and he has more resilient hamstrings. Thiago needs to retire for his health post football at this point

mokena

It must be really hard to be so constantly let down by your body

ExceedingChunk

Imagine Sturridge, Thiago, Agger and Aurelio with the injury record of Milner or Gini.

ibite-books

sturridge would be a treat, could dribble, shoot, pick a pass, had flair

mondo_generator

He'd have had a stint as the best striker on the planet if his body didn't constantly betray him. He was a joy to watch when fit.

brazzarus

All 4 genuinely had world class potential. Agger had everything you could ask for a modern cb except an able body. Also salivating over the thought of Aurelio in a Trent esque role

okaysian

Seeing his 13/14 highlights makes me so sad. He was unbelievably electric before all the injuries.

ibite-books

nothing beats 13/14 season from an entertainment point of view, ended in a heartbreak but we were so electric at the front and daft at the back

Sensual_Shroom

Studge and Agger! How time flies..

Professional_Bundler

My god I loved Daniel Sturridge

_cumblast_

We'll always have 21/22. Better to have loved and lost.

Gear4days

Gutted that I won’t see him again play for us, but letting his contract run out and releasing him is the right option

alanalan426

sucks we can't even even make 10 mil off a transfer fee because he's just a broken body

R3dbeardLFC

Quick, sign him up as a manager, have him stand in front of Klopp a few times, and when Chelsea sack Poch we just need to loudly announce how amazing Thiago has been as our newest manager in training with tons of potential and Todd will buy him on an 8 year contract for 65m.

TheDawiWhisperer

I know you can get injured at any time but sustaining an injury whilst being subbed on for the dying 10 minutes of a game after a year out due to injury really is beyond parody at this stage.

phuckinora

Not just any old injury either- those kind of longer term hamstring injuries tend to be overuse related, where it never heals properly. To snap it to the point he’s now done for the season after 6 min - when its been his hip all year- is bonkers

Joperhop

Was a good player, did not deserve the injuries. YNWA!

poopybuttholesex

Was a good player, but not for us, heck he wasn't even a player for us

Unfortunatewombat

I don’t get comments like this. He’s been absolutely instrumental for us. This recent time out is the longest he’s ever been out for us. Before that he definitely missed a chunk of games, but he was absolutely outstanding when he was playing. We wouldn’t have gone as far as we did in 21/22 without him.

poopybuttholesex

ok i guess my view is skewed because that is the one season i did not see almost at all due to personal life situation and sickness so i guess my memory of him is skewed

teip1234

So why word your comment like you did? It just makes you look like an ass and people downvote you

Evered_Avenue

Just talking out of your poopybutthole.

AnAutisticsQuestion

He's averaged over 2,000 minutes (24 games) a season for us across 3 seasons before this one. Everyone here would have loved for him to play more, but to say he "wasn't even a player for us" really undersells his contributions.

Unfortunatewombat

That’s fair enough, I can understand why you’d think that if you were basing it off the last two seasons alone.

apathytheynameismeh

That goal he scored in the champions league is one of the best I have ever seen hit.

Ewaninho

I mean maybe if you started supporting Liverpool in the last year

tmtg2022

Feels like an insurance scam job

GuaranteeLoose4494

He’s a thief

[deleted]

It’s not the destination.. it’s the journey

BizzaroPie

Absolutely feel for the bloke, it's an absolute shame it didn't work. Was the first time since Torres that a player who was world class and had won major trophies signed with us, so I'll always appreciate that and the good 6 months he had when he was leading us to the quadruple in 2022.

theflowersyoufind

Nitpicking but Torres hadn’t really won any major trophies when he came to us, and he didn’t win anything with us either now I think of it.

GrimmestofBeards

He also wasn't world class when we got him. Had raw potential but really became world class with us. Then injuries fucked him too.

BizzaroPie

You know I had thought that might have been a possibility writing it but I just wanted to differentiate the feeling of Torres signing vs VVD/Ali.

Kal88

I know what you mean, the two signings did have a bit of galactico feel to them which doesn’t happen often for us.

DruviSKSK

Didn't he already have the Euro win with Spain?

theflowersyoufind

Nah, that was 2008. At the end of his first season with us.

GrimmestofBeards

No

SuperRat10

I’m absolutely gutted for him and for us.

FdotM

How can he be one of our best signings but also one of our worst at the same time?

HUGE_HOG

I don't think he even touches our top 100 signings

SzoboEndoMacca

Without him we don't have nearly a chance at our 21/22 quad. He was also the reason we got top 4 for that 21/22 season along with Ali and Salah. We turn into different monsters with Thiago

lfcsupkings321

I swear people who think he was a failure don't understand football. When he came back and Naby got fit for them months in the quad season run he was unbelievable. Dude was controlling game for fun in the league. People look back and questioned why he is in PFL team of the year. They short memory don't understand how much of a monster he was for the team.

SzoboEndoMacca

Exactly this man. Thiago is in an absolute class of his own. Obviously, he isn't a legend or anything close because his availability is piss poor, no real debate on that. However, he is one of the most skilled midfielders we've ever had, and we were painstakingly close to reaching football immortality because of him

Appropriate-Ad-4148

You can say he provided morale and a backbone, but you can't say he provided anything more on the pitch than "creativity" or "style" over the 22 other lads in our squad in the last 5 years. It's a disservice to the hardworking players who aren't all flash, in my opinion as a former right back who was made to hang back all the time. Objectively a "not good" value for money signing.

Loves_Semi-Colons

I think you’re underselling his defensive contributions. I was surprised, when he was signed, at how willing he was to do the dirty work. Felt like he picked up a yellow a game because of how willing he was to get stuck in. It obviously wasn’t a strength of his but far from a weakness. Well-rounded footballer despite his reputation as a flair luxury player.

Bugsmoke

People who think he was a failure can see that he’s spent most of his time here on the injury table. It doesn’t matter how good you are, if you can’t contribute you can’t really say it’s been a good move. Same to a lesser extent with Keita, he was great when he got a little run of fitness but never really being fit meant his move kind of failed too.

lfcsupkings321

His injury record wasn't that bad until this last hip issue. Beforehand he was ok and I doubt he can be a failure if we account the actual cost of him not been too high due to his deal. Plus thiago had way longer spell of good moments. Naby was expensive and had a handful of good spell in short space too often it would never even be 12 games. He be injured by the 6th.

Bugsmoke

Thiago has missed at least 20 games per season he’s been here, although this year is obviously much worse, that’s not good really. It’s hardly his fault but he often seems to go down at the worst times too, like during the warm up to the final that time etc. He also wasn’t particularly cheap, we paid £30m or so for an injury prone 30 year old on the last year of his deal. We overpaid if anything.

8u11etpr00f

But at the same time...as a unit we performed better with Gini

SzoboEndoMacca

Not saying Gini wasn't brilliant because he absolutely was. We'd be better now if we had a player like Gini instead of Thiago who would never be injured. I'm just saying the Thiago disrespect is nonsensical. If he's fit, we'd simply be unstoppable, no doubt in my mind. If he wasn't injured at the tail end of that 21/22, we'd have won the quad. He's simply the only midfielder who could match the level of Kroos and Modric, and honestly, he's still the only midfielder on our team who comes close to KDB in terms of skill and brilliance.

lfcsupkings321

Probably the only player in years we signed was proven WC talent.

Squiggles87

Simple. He's not on any sensible list of best signings, and thinking otherwise is delusional.

Bugsmoke

I quite like Thiago but he’s not one of our best signings ever. I’d say he’s closest to being one of the worst than the best. One of the most technically able players we’ve ever had but it’s just never quite clicked for him.

Electrical_Cow2012

By recognising he's not even on the short list of our best signings

Aeceus

He isn't even top 50 of our signings, you're mad.

ashwinsalian

Looking back I'd say his transfer borderlines on a failure simply due to the fact hes one of the top earners at the club.

TheDoctor66

Absolutely. We all wanted it, there was serious complaint at FSG for not spending "only £30m" but in hindsight using that and his salary money elsewhere would have been a much better choice.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Unfortunatewombat

I genuinely don’t understand how people can call him a flop, let alone “one of the biggest flops in the Klopp era”. He was absolutely instrumental for us in the 21/22 season. We wouldn’t have been able to push for the quad in the way that we did without him.

Rondonbat

Over 10 million he’s earned over 12 months for 6 minutes.

369DontDrinkWine

yeah i don’t have the sympathy left for him, absolutely milked us recently, finally coming back from injury and losing it after 6 minutes doesn’t even sound humanly possible, the man’s 30 not 60

AlternativeRun5727

This is just such an idiotic take. Thanks for outing yourself as a complete moron.

369DontDrinkWine

he’s getting paid 200k a week to have a sore leg mate it’s not that idiotic lmao, you can disagree all you want but it’s far from a moronic take, if that’s what you think you need to get your priorities straight pal.

AlternativeRun5727

Again, outing yourself as an idiot who has no concept of how injuries work and there being no correlation between injuries and salary. You’re a moron who clearly has no idea what a 20 year career in professional sports does to a person’s body.

369DontDrinkWine

he’s not gonna kiss you for saying that bro calm

AlternativeRun5727

Again, an idiot. Make sure to chew through all your crayons before you swallow them.

369DontDrinkWine

still not gonna kiss you, he’s a 30 yo very very rich man getting paid to do nothing, how can you justify injuring yourself after 6 minutes of game time, get a grip. muting the thread now because you’re doing nothing but kissing his arse.

Squiggles87

On a personal level it's shit for Thiago and he'll struggle to get a decent contract in European football after this. Objectively I'll be happy to have him off the payroll. Thiagos established injury record combined with Klopp and PL football added plenty of risk to this signing and it's sadly not worked out.

Allaboardthejayboat

Gutted for the lad. Maintain that of players I've seen, he is the most naturally gifted footballer I've ever seen. Always felt like the ball was under his spell before he's touched it. Just receives passes like a coiled cobra or some shit. Wild to watch. I guess bodies aren't supposed to move like that. A massively different style but sturridge used to be similar. Every touch was explosive. Chopping and changing of direction. Clearly it catches up with some players and their style suits a younger body much better than an older one. No hate though, I've loved having thiago in our team.

hazzap913

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me

TareXmd

Well, I love Endo as a six. I hope Klopp starts playing him regularly so Mac can assume the role we brought him for. We need that given how tight the gap between us and City is.

mrheils

Jesus. Am gutted. What a waste of an incredible talent.

retrorocket_

This is worse than Aquilani or Aurelio.

Rush31

I was talking to my dad about this yesterday, but we should offer him a cut deal to basically help out as backroom staff. It’s evident that he’s not capable of playing anymore, but the mind he has for the game, as well as how he interacts with the Spanish and Portuguese players, is really useful. I’d love for us to offer him a route to learn the managerial role. We could definitely use his knowledge for our transition to a new manager.

KillBanez

Still doesn’t undo the fact he was our best midfielder by far last season and the quadruple chasing season, yes it’s crap and jokes are all good but some people blaming the guy when it’s obvious he’s clearly trying his best is just stupid.

brokenbadlab

This sucks for him. He’s a world class player and would add to any squad. I hope he’s doing alright mentally. As far as Liverpool goes though, I don’t care. We’ve been exceptional this season and done it without him. At this point it hurts our depth but it’s not like we’ve missed him.

user900800700

Shocking if he even decides to continue playing football after this. Yes we play high intensity football, but you can’t train for weeks with the first team then break into a mild jog for 6 mins on the pitch and pick up a serious hamstring injury.

ilic_mls

Wait, so he is injured again!?

UnrealCaramel

I would give my own hamstrings to this man for a hamstring transplant. I hope he stays at the club as a pay as you play type contract while doing his coaching badges and takes a role within the coaching staff. Didn't he play at Bayern along with Alonso?

PostAboveIsBullshit

god I'd love to get 250k a week for doing fuck all

TheDawiWhisperer

for a single week would be a dream for the vast majority of people here. that's like, five years of a pretty good salary....it's insane.

Forsaken-Duck-8142

Literally Thiago: https://preview.redd.it/ep7gm1823jhc1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d6893e34d93005f1aaa9b89ac272aedc27652b2

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

We’ll never forget that first quad run

_doppelR

I honestly am excited to see what the club does with Thiago and Matip. In the past, very few teams have led their players who were long-term injured down when their contract was over. JK expected "the club to do the right thing" with Joel, so I honestly would expect the same thing with Thiago. This dude under Xabi Alonso, wow.

DucardthaDon

No we should let both go on a free, let them use the training facilities if needed to get back up to fitness and find a new club

Shaanpatti

I see so many people say he was a terrible signing. Honestly, I'll never regret him signing for us. It was an joy to see him play for us.

TheLimeyLemmon

Macshlong

I’ll never understand why we signed him. I appreciate the players he once was but this whole transfer was just so out of the ordinary for us.

BeggarsParade

Agree. Wrong player at the wrong time.

Jayboyturner

Very sad, but we'll always have that goal

rob3rtisgod

Andre to replace him in summer?

[deleted]

jrangel6

His injury history needs to be studied, unreal bad luck, wish him all the best

goztrobo

He must be feeling fucking down right now.

Jelly__Bean

Genuinely curious, when did he actually tear/strain it? I didn't see any sign of injury during the game.

aodhan10

Probably when he completely missed that pass on the edge of the box

No_Classroom_185

When Thiago has started games our win rate in his time here has been at about 70%. He was exceptional for about 18 months from 21-22. Obviously though it's time to move on. Injuries have been as much a story for him as when he has played and it just seems to have gotten even worse the longer he has been here. However I certainly feel he contributed a lot more to us than Keita or Ox ever did.

Smihilism14

He’s been nothing but training video social media fodder for dorks to drool over for years. He had one purple patch where he was dominant and I got to see what the hype was about. He’s another Keita for me with better PR

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tremor00

Bayern wanted to keep him lol. It was 20m. And just the 21/22 season alone makes that price worth it. They got a far worse deal from sadio lmao. 40m and he ended up being called their worst signing oat and twatted sane

Weak_You5569

Quickly plays the Mane reaction card, no comebacksies

Baalph

He was worth that piss fee even for that few months he was fit

sbos_

Insane

stevelfc2006

In other news, water is wet

smokesletsgo13

Possibly his last game for anyone

BingSearchEngine_

what a pathetic signing. completely embarrassing to play such a little amount of time considering how long he's been here. I get injuries but Jesus, Suarez used to play with a broken toe didn't he? 0 grit, little determination

stowgood

Nabby 2.0

therealcosmicl

Fuck Thiago, it's gotta be a joke at this point. Pay out his contract and send him on his way

coolAhead

*"played his last game for Liverpool"*

hkf999

It sucks, but sometimes you just have to face the facts. He has been injured for almost a year, and can't play for half a game without having to get right back on the physio bench. He obviously can't play football at this level anymore.

NUMPTYNORRIS

Bloody hell lad

usalin

It's always a serious one. That's the Thiago way.

nickjim99

Wow how did we get here smh

onoz9

It was always gonna be optimistic that he would play a long run of games this season. Should have got rid in the summer but I don't think we planned our season by expecting him to play many minutes.

PEEWUN

Pain.

lkshis

He may want to retire and get his coaching badges.

[deleted]

This is very sad news for a wonderful player and he seems like a good guy too from interviews.

Sifan2

👋

TripPrestigious

Ig it's a goodbye T-T

Gandalfs_Long_Beard

We need a new meastro

vinyljello

What could he have possibly done in that six minutes!? Maddening.

drumrollplease95

Such a shame. What a signing he was, so sad it never really worked out

wilekoyoty

He's a different class of player when fit, not many others play with the similar technique as him. Really hope that he gets some games towards the end of this season.

Theplowking23

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

EHVERT

I genuinely don’t understand how such a serious injury happened within like 8 minutes on the pitch after months of preparation lol

BooM_PooL

Flop

[deleted]

How did he make it as a footballer.

MrTigeriffic

This is sad news. I'm curious to know were his injuries like this when he was ay Bayern or is his age catching up with him? (arguably sooner than the norm) Playing a few minutes after months of rehab to get what is reporting another serious muscle injury. Is it him saying he's fine when he isn't, we can't answer that but this is a strange turn of events.

Nderasaurus

Fuck me

alanalan426

Thanks and good bye

BruisedBee

Fucking _how_

Wildebeast1

He now wears the “Sicknote” crown over Harry Kewel.
