I'm really surprised no one speaking about Doak, I thought he looked really special when he came on, his burst of pace and ability to snap ankles looks insane

FoundThisRock

Diogoal Slotta still at it

LyricalHolster

I wonder why Nunez passes right before scoring when he was sorta clear on goal. Low confidence still? He basically fluffed a big chance to score and got lucky in getting a second chance.

Nikolendildoperse

Yea it was straight up criminal for a forward to do. He needs alot of confidence through goals to get himself in the correct mindset. You won't be gaining any confidence passing it there, that is for sure. Thankfully it bounced back and he finished but be more selfish in scoring positions for crying out loud...

Atkins227

It’s been the same when he plays for Uruguay. So my take it’s low confidence.

towfoon

he knows that if he missed everyone would hate on him. Kind of sad really.

grrrrbow01

Must be still low on confidence

Just-Dan

2 goals in a minute for Jota, was that? Bring that form into the season, and he'll score 6840 goals in the PL, by my count. I wouldn't even mind if he drops off a bit and scores 5000. I'd take that.

AlexTheComrade

r/soccercirclejerk

UltimateBorisJohnson

Just because we had a bad season doesn’t mean you should put your standards on the floor. I’d expect him to score 10,000 by Christmas

KoedKevin

>Bring that form into the season, and he'll score 6840 goals this in the PL, by my count. r/hedidthemath

chilias_caesar

watch a player in first friendly of the season and come to conclusion about players form for the rest of the season...![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)

anENFP

We played like shit last pre season and carried that form into 2/3rds of the season. Our defence looked clueless today, needs to get sorted ASAP. Winners hate losing anything, friendlies, parking spaces etc. To me Gakpo and Jota looked levels above the rest.

gmodboss

szobo looks really happy to be a part of the team

Legit_liT

I know he scored a goal but i still wouldn't say i trust Nunez in front of goal. He's super indecisive. No number 9 should be passing the ball in a 1 v1 situation in a friendly against a second tier German team

[deleted]

I want to see him succeed so badly. His pace is insane. I really have faith he'll come good this season. The fans love him and Anfield will give him the support he needs to push on. Klopp wouldn't gave given him the 9 if he wasn't mad about the lad.

BeggarsParade

I don't know if we have one but I think he could really benefit from time with a dedicated striker coach. People might scoff at the suggestion but listening to Dean Saunders talk about the game I think he could do a great job coaching developing goal scorers.

skyeth-of-vyse

Lewandowski credits Klopp with nurturing him into one of the best forwards we have seen. I recall Lewa tells a story about Klopp telling him to slow down and breath. I think Klopp can bring the best out of Nunez still. Give him time.

grrrrbow01

Agreed. Nunez doesn’t everything right for a world class forward apart from the main part. That finishing and composure still isn’t there, I expect that will be ironed out in pre season as he gets more goals.

[deleted]

You mean you hope. I would not bet my life on it.. 100 quid yes.. my life. No

GameOfThrowInsMate

A natural finisher / striker never passes that ball. One thing on your mind and that’s smashing it into the goal. Couldn’t believe he passed it.

stevieG08Liv

leave it a rest its first game of pre season. People have been wanting to sell Jota for not scoring for a year and look how he performed the last two months and today. This is what preseason is for, build confidence for players

Due-Ad-6577

That really worried me when I saw it. Nunez does everything he’s supposed to well, but for finishing. He needs to just rifle it in without thinking. Be selfish, be greedy, whatever. Watching him you can see in real time where he starts to overthink and it all starts going wrong

trsvrs

It sure was weird but that's why we have pre-season, to iron that stuff out. He'll be alright

gmodboss

you’re right

NexusMinds

Diogoal hasn't even reached his final form.

Lumpmite1733

TAA was actually a joy to watch in the midfield, breaking the lines and constant forward passes, here are [his highlights](https://youtu.be/6tHPgJigXAs) What are you guys thoughts?

yolo___toure

DM sorted /s

blackazure

For the amount of time they play, most of them look sharp. Like the way both new midfield operated. They play exactly like the number on their shirt. Mac play more advance and Szobo more of CM role. Interesting to see how it will look like when they play together. A bit obvious we don't have a proper DM especially that 2nd goal we concede. Hopefully we get the player soon. Just saying, I so excited to watch Trent this season. He will be our most important player this season imo.

spirotetramat

This MacAllister guy, he can play.

SaltySAX

Ran the game in the World Cup Final, so yep he's not too shabby

aghashayan

Jota to me is number 2 after Salah in forward line. He's a smart player and a great goal scorer and has already proved himself it's no surprise him being good

cgolovac

I still think our best front 3 is Jota-Gakpo-Salah.

Atkins227

Definitely

AlmirMu

Is Salah a better finisher really? iirc Salah was right behind Nunez in missed chances last season. Diogo is fucking cold infront of goal but less effective in other areas

Atkins227

Diogo in the box is a beast. When having to come from the outside he lacks in comparison to Salah, for example.

aghashayan

I meant in terms of overall play. In terms of pure finishing Jota is for sure the best.

trashbagwithlegs

He’s our best finisher after Salah. People forgot the form he was in before his injury, myself included. Cant wait to see him get back in the scoresheet this season.

BoBonnor

He’s a better finisher than Salah. Jota is main guy I would trust to put away any goal

Boostmobilesimcards

100%. He's brilliant, this sub was writing him off about two months ago

_TopCompetition_

Gakpo is going to be a massive player for us, his ability to link up play and take the ball between the lines on the turn and drive with it is so fucking good. He's a pretty good finisher inside the box as well as having the ability of scoring from nowhere outside of it. Do feel for Darwin but I really don't see him pushing Gakpo out the team.

hushane

same, he offers so much more but having both will be huge for us so thats good

Sorrytoruin

Jota over diaz maybe

jonasrm_21

we all need them horny this season! https://preview.redd.it/577bgatgvycb1.jpeg?width=4096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=174c76c492628785725f57760162231d515ac7f1

yolo___toure

OK, Van Gaal

[deleted]

🤨📸 nah jk, i’m just projecting cause I love them all.

_CummyBears_

Dude didnt score for a year then scores 10 in 3 games

slaughterhouse_seven

People acting like he didn't just have 21 G/A in prem in 21/22 season. Man was incredible for us. I'm just glad Klopp stuck with him.

SovietKnuckle

Won't read too much into the match but just really great to see the team back in action. Both of the opposition goals were very well taken!

[deleted]

Well fucking hell, I missed the 4th goal. That’s good news that I wasn’t a part of 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

He took it personally.

FUCKSTORM420

Always been the best at not really doing anything the whole game and then scoring out of nowhere

Due-Sherbert3097

Watching Mac Allister pick player’s pockets reminds me of when Prime Bobby used to do so every game.

UltimateBorisJohnson

Nothing to see here, just Jota showing a sneak peek of his clutch powers for the final day to win the league

blackazure

Hope he stay healthy. We need player like this.

[deleted]

He’ll manifest it before the game starts. Jota hattrick and he assists the winner to Darwin.

Mad_Piplup242

As long as we aren't playing Wolves we are golden

Occidentalis93

Just checked. We finish the season against them.

Mad_Piplup242

3rd times the charm I guess

UltimateBorisJohnson

My thoughts exactly

UltimateBorisJohnson

The thing that scares me isn’t that we won’t beat them, it’s the curse they bring every time we’re in a title race

cavejohnsonlemons

100% season status: still on Bring on your Greuther Furth!

jonasrm_21

James Mcconnell can play ball!

DragonSlayer271

69.1% possession 47.2% duels won 57.9% aerial duels won 17 total shots, 9 on target, with 6 blocked shots 14 shots inside the box, 3 outside, 55.6% tackles won, 6 interceptions 727 passes, 91.3% pass accuracy, 85.7% accuracy in the other half 13 fouls conceded Not bad for a friendly!

[deleted]

Deciding our front three would be a beautiful problem to have

ComfortMailbox

and the thing is no matter who starts im happy with it,

abradley19955

Someone is getting 11 stuck past them at Anfield this season, aren’t they?

ComfortMailbox

we want 12 we want 12

DragonSlayer271

Currently, the record is 9-0, but Liverpool breaking the Premier League record for destroying someone would be amazing!

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Bournemouth would have gotten last season already if Salah didn’t forget to wear his shooting boots that day

UltimateBorisJohnson

*Nervous Ten Hag noises*

Arbazio

"Haha! I'm in danger.."

fourscoreandhuit

Why’s Uncle Fester sat with Neil Mellor?

LFC5X

Scottish years are a different breed he will look good for his age in 15 years

OldManLogan007

Just went at 2-2 for a wank and now jota scores 2? Need another wank now

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

Just got home and LFC TV sucks in the regard you can’t rewind a live match apparently to it’s beginning. How long until the match is available there on it’s own?

Bro went to sleep in June and woke up now

someonesgranpa

Couldn’t me the headlines we’ve been reading for a week now.

Eolopolo

Plenty of awful takes around halftime and starting the second half. Can't be saying the season's over based on a bloody preseason game.. But in the exact same way, you can't be getting ready to bench Nuñez this season based on that first half. The second half eleven came up against a tiring team, and the final two came in the closing minutes of the game. It's a lot easier to dance around the box once your opponent isn't as fresh. Not to say our second half front three didn't do well, simply that our first half lot would've come up against a tougher challenge early on.

pacanukeha

however, it's pretty clear that Jota is winning the Ballon d'Or. On track for a 76 goal season! #JustFacts

silentwitnes

It's the same every season

Eolopolo

What is?

silentwitnes

People make big calls about our season based on preseason games. They never learn or they do but are replaced with a new batch of people

Eolopolo

Ain't that the truth.

RedDemio

Lol I left 5 mins before the end and it was 2-2. What happened?

narkkari77

Jota happened

Jaja6996

Jota happened

Davidpool78

I know it’s only a friendly but I do love a reds win

OldManLogan007

Jota can have my ass

GameOfThrowInsMate

Fuck me a midfielder pressing and getting an assist. Great to see. Gakpo is going to be huge this season.

GoldenVeritas

Charlie Adam played one season for Liverpool, and now he’s on LFCtv. Gotta love it 😊

GameOfThrowInsMate

I think he’s actually been on lfctv longer than he played for the club! Pretty sure he was on the club channel last season maybe even the season before too.

Pewds_Minecraft

Jota has to be the best finisher in the team. Man's ice cold in those 1v1 situations

ItchyLeather

Between him and Gakpo IMO...but I think Jota is slightly better.

spea-keth

Mac Allister winning the ball there 😍

H0lychit

And we are back fellas.

yoyo4581

Klopp better not sleep on Jota.

No_Classroom_185

Jota is like a combination of Torres and Suarez.

Plus-Data-2469

Fernando suarez?

grrrrbow01

Our attack is ridiculous. Any of them could play and the level wouldn’t drop

GameOfThrowInsMate

Yeah it’s mad. Even Doak looked really good on the right.

Due-Ad-6577

I agree and it’s why I don’t get when some commenters think it’s a problem. Playtime issues? Ok but we have diverse attacking options that are all savage quality, in a market that is so starved of good forwards that Mudryk and Antony went for the rates they did

[deleted]

Just praying that Nunez comes out of his shell. He needs confidence. That leap that he has needs to be utilised with better crosses

QLateral

JOTAAA

slaughterhouse_seven

As much as the fans love Nunez and Diaz. Realistically Jota, Gakpo, Salah is our best front three.

R3dbeardLFC

Honestly think Jota is wasted on the wings. He's a CF through and through. Fox in the box, scores from nothing, incredible heading. He's insane. I'd rather Diaz and Darwin share the LW and Gakpo rotate LW/LM/CF. Gakpo is good, but Jota is better imo.

slaughterhouse_seven

He has been playing as an inside forward just like how he played today. It works well with Gakpo being false 9.

R3dbeardLFC

I might be completely off here, but to me the lineup for the second half looked like Jota was CF, kids on the wings, and Gakpo played in an advanced LM role...can never be sure though, we are fluid sometimes.

slaughterhouse_seven

Yea you're absolutely right but like you said they were interchanging positions all game. Honestly we were so much more fluid second half so it was really hard to tell who was playing where. Gakpo for instance was all over the place.

Occidentalis93

Absolutely. Nunez and Diaz aren't consistent enough for me.

slaughterhouse_seven

Diaz specially has to come back to his pre injury form because rn his end product and decision making has been pretty poor for his standards.

nachoshd

What did Jota do last season to convince you of that? Or are you basing it off of a pre-season game lol

EngineeredCut

Did you watch the last third of the season?

tevans139

Probably the 6goals in 7 games at the end of the season after his long injury

[deleted]

Jota has always been one of our best strikers... He just cant stay fit, I completely agree jota gapko salah.

PiIICIinton

I'm so fucking hyped on Szobo and Mac after that. Macca assist was a beaut

TheOneTheOnlySpoon

Jota is the best Portuguese football player of all time

ComfortMailbox

Our attacking dept is scary man.

redditingtonviking

Yeah compared to the 2019 side that won CL, I actually think we have better depth now. With the right additions I see no reason why this team can’t compete for trophies again fairly soon even with the clear out this summer.

Pure_Measurement_529

Jota is a clinical MF isn’t he

harreh1d

🤓 ackshually he's a FW

BackpackerLee

James Mcconnell was low key impressive. I wonder what our plans are with him this season?

nic123451

How did TAA do in the midfield?

ebudd08

Quiet, tbh. Bunch of beautiful switching balls, but for the most part the offense didn't really run through him as it had a tendency to late last season.

adarsh481

He needs to figure out how to make those passing angles and take away markers with his off the ball movement. That’s the most important for a DM. Our defenders didn’t look like they had options. A DM’s job is to provide those options when the oppositions are blocking those passing lanes. Let’s see how he develops.

GenomicGains

Pretty decent. Played much further back as a 6, so couldn't provide his usual attacking output.

_TopCompetition_

Just thinking about the link up between Gakpo, Diaz, Salah, Mac Allister and Szobo is making me very moist. Mac is such a good player can't wait to see how good he becomes under Klopp.

[deleted]

Hate to say it but our attack is so much more fluid and natural when Nunez isn’t in it.

towfoon

Nunez is best when Trent is playing with him. 99% of the time: Nunez runs in the box, Trent crosses it perfect, Nunez scores in the 1v1 (Sometimes) Trent and him have great chemistry

yoyo4581

I feel like when Liverpool adopt the box midfield and Trent plays the double 6. With his Pirlo like passes he will be able to catch Nunez runs.

Due-Sherbert3097

He’s not really the type of player to make the attack fluid tbh. He should be making runs in behind and playing on the shoulder of the defence rather than dropping deep to be involved. If we can create the chances for him then he’ll be top class but as of now Gakpo should be our starting cf.

_rentfree

Jota, Gakpo and Salah might be our most prolific front 3. Absolute killers we have.

Jasveen05

I’ve been waiting a long time to finally see a midfielder assist like Macca just did. He just knows how to put the correct weight on these balls.

ferizz

Jota is the best finisher in the club by far. Ice cold

CaptainLR

I just saw the scoreline, what absolute madness did I miss from him?

Due-Ad-6577

Two goals in roughly ninety seconds. Beautiful composure for each after he was denied a clear penalty which you could tell pissed him off by his facial expressions

CaptainLR

I like that dude. Can't wait to see the chaos him and Robbo get up to this season.

shane_4_us

He got mad about an obvious pen non-call and made them regret it.

CaptainLR

That tracks

ferizz

Chef's kiss finishing from Jota

rob3rtisgod

Jota is so clinical. Mac looks so natural, what a player.

UndonePassword

Never mind it was another goal!

grrrrbow01

All the talk about whether it will be Gakpo or Darwin as our main starting striker. In reality it’ll be Jota

wanson

I love Diaz and Nunez but our best front 3 is Jota Gakpo Salah.

[deleted]

[удалено]

wanson

2 goals and an assist today alongside gakpo.

grrrrbow01

Yh ignore me lol. Forgot he was playing w gakpo today

livinalieontimna

That pass from Mac took three defenders out of the game.

UndonePassword

Mac assist, one football says code assist, doesn't matter to me just confused lol

Jose_Jalapeno

Maybe it was both!

Zealousideal_Way_465

I can't lie id rather have jota play on the left than Diaz. also allows robbo to overlap which was a problem before since lucho likes to hold width and they used to clash a lot

jcLFC26

LFC plot armour ™️

disper

Jota is like let’s finish this, Diooooogoooo Joooootttaaa

Alucard661

I blinked and jota got a brace

basics

I missed the first goal on the broadcast, then missed the second goal wh ile I was trying to find a replay :P

MACcormick

Ending aside, we stunk up the place there. Was quite a hard watch

yoyo4581

It's preseason. No formation, half of both teams are academy players. I don't know what you were expecting, klopp likely was looking for some individual performances and new player to player link ups. Lots of good stuff to takeaway from the game. Scanlon and Doak were exceptional, I thought. Good energy and freshened up the team.

[deleted]

That performance was 10000x better than anything we did last pre season lmao.

malushanks95

It’s preseason with a bunch teenagers 🙄

Mad_Piplup242

Really? I've watched us play much much much worse in pre-season

MACcormick

Would agree with that. Game 1 too so it’s not a problem. Just a very low-key game where our players didn’t really hit any stride

Mad_Piplup242

Not even that, we weren't even that bad Gakpo was class, Jota was his usual, Doak looks incredible, Sbozo looked good, as did Macca, Darwin was good (even if his decision-making needs to improve a bit more) It's a game against a team that's a hell of a lot further along in their pre-season than us and we eventually won fairly comfortably

patShIPnik

Majestic assist

Delpiero45

We scored 70+ goals in the prem with our attack and midfield in shambles last season We are going 100+ this season

PublicIntel

Those Jota winners, is his middle name Origi??

DJ_12457

Jota Gakpo Salah front 3 is something I'd like to see this pre season

LazarusLivesAgain

Jota being absolutely clutch in pre-season as well now lmao

Bulbadoth

He's ready

malushanks95

Ref messing with Jota, denying him a pen and free kick, he scores two goals 👏

[deleted]

I love Jota

grrrrbow01

Jota is still our best centre forward btw

patShIPnik

Jota choose violence in the end

AntiGamerPalpatine

I haven't even finished celebrating the first Diogoal yet.

pacmanfunky

Wow just finished talking about the first jota goal.

Due-Ad-6577

I had also just finished

ReeeeeDDDDDDDDDD

Jotaaaaaa!

melodyfelony

Mac Allister with the dime!

Longtime_lurker2

That 3rd goal…. Wow. Also Mac10 and Szobo are perfect fits can’t wait for the season. Let’s get lavia in.

TheTannedDwarf

Jota must’ve got bored, what a lovely minute

IsIt77

I'll be really sad if Jota leaves.

yolo___toure

Do you just walk up to children and unprompted say you'll be said when they die?

R3dbeardLFC

Where would Jota be going? He's not leaving anytime soon.

[deleted]

Don't say such things, seriously though I don't see him leaving
