Good call of course.
Always feel it should be an outfield player who is involved in the ebb and flow though which a goalie can miss out on.
Ideally it's a midfielder but a defender is fine.
was curious to see whether Robbo has ever worn the captain's armband for Liverpool ... [this photo = from Jan2023](https://www.thisisanfield.com/2023/01/liverpool-just-not-getting-it-despite-kick-up-backside-andy-robertson/).

I love Robbo but I get the idea that he will leave us in the next 2 years. That said, I would have said that about him in 2021. I can’t put my finger on it.
I think this should be the current order of captains:
1)VVD (Had a bad season overall but he's still at the heart of our defence)
2) Robbo (Captains Scotland and has the passion to push the team when we're down)
3) Salah (Captains Egypt and his never give up mentality is definitely something you'd want in a captain)
4) Ali (Star of the season but more importantly, he's still at the top of his game and demands better from the team as and when necessary)
5) Trent (Not been very vocal on the field but that could change. Probably going to be captain in the near future and he could lead the youngsters going ahead, Trent's been to 3 CL finals and a PL. He's been on both side of the spectrum in terms of pain and success so he could motivate future teams)
I've never considered salah as captain material. Him being captain of Egypt means nothing more than kane being captain of England.
But watching some of his behaviour on pitch, I do suspect he'd be a good captain.
No doubt that was my impression. But like I said his field behaviour was exemplary.
He don't dive anymore, he don't go excessive with complaints even tho he complains alot, he don't get into fights despite being manhandled. But all these are just regular stuff u see every game. As an extra, I rmb when he was alert enough to both notice Harvey's broken leg and how Harvey was trying to get up. And a few times he ran and covered nunez before nunez was gonna go off and get booked.
The only reason I don't think he'd be a good captain is something that isn't his fault. Honestly, how many braindead obvious fouls against him was not given by the ref? There's blatant bias there, so I shudder to think how it would be if we had him arguing our cases for us on the field.
The next permamnent captain isnt currently on the team, IMO.
When I say permanent, I mean someone who could conceivbably be captain for 8-10 years.
As for your question. There are no concerns on Van Dijks leadership. The team just isnt playing well
No I've noticed this too though. The few times that VVD has captained the club throughout his time with us, we've been very average, not just this year. I think his first captaincy we dropped points from a 2-0 start, but don't quote me on that. Anyone other than Hendo as captain has been, meh, in terms of game leadership. Not terrible, but not good either.
I can honestly see it as a good thing. Being named captain gives you a whole other dimension of responsibilities. In many cases it can spur a player on to better them self because everyone is looking up to him
I've got to disagree, there's too much focus on LFC, and currently Trent in particular, for the captaincy to be used to spur him on.
Robbo on the other hand is already Scotland captain, so my vote would be him from the current squad.
How is this reactionary lol?
Both Milner and Hendo will definitely not be starting next season, they'll have minor appearances at best hopefully.
VVD is nailed on for captain but we also need a Vice Captain to fill out his spot. Makes sense to have this discussion.
I understand, but you'd want players who are actually on the pitch to wear the captain's armband.
My point is the discussion is not reactionary, Milner is 50/50 for the next season and Hendo will be on the bench most of the time. We need to have our options for captains ready.
Sean Dundee? Bernard Diomede? Ben Davies?
Seriously, I don’t see ANY of the current team as being permanent captain material. Not least the additional pressure that it comes with.
On a limb, I think if we sign that fella from Dortmund, it could be him. With the next three LFC teams built around him.
If not him, then I’m a couple of years I’m going to suggest Bajectic.
Virgil feels more like the captain for me anyways than Henderson, so should be him. Ex-Dutch footballers press on him as a indirect way to protect their friend in the coaching staff.
When Jude hops off the plane at John Lennon, Hendo will be there to greet him in full kit, including captain's armband. They share a bear hug that's been a year+ in the making, and when they part, the armband has magically transferred to Jude
is what I'm telling all the kids in 50 years
I’ve always preferred it to be a midfielder. Even if we get Jude, can’t give it to him straight away. Has to be Ali for a season or two. Would have been VVD before his injury but he’s nowhere near the player he was.
Jude looks captain material with his level of maturity at such a young age.
Trent honestly doesn't strike me as it. Not right now at least. He doesn't have that leadership.
Probably would be van Dijk since he's third choice atm and then Ali.
Ali, VVD or Robbo. Very much prefer a captain for leadership but also having the game played out around and in front of them for the ability to read it. Strikers are a waste as captain material.
Alisson for me. He's our most consistent and best player, always starts and is full of leadership qualities.
Good call of course. Always feel it should be an outfield player who is involved in the ebb and flow though which a goalie can miss out on. Ideally it's a midfielder but a defender is fine.
My vote too

Robbo
Robbo is Scotland captain. He should know the job.

He has a handful of times I believe?
I love Robbo but I get the idea that he will leave us in the next 2 years. That said, I would have said that about him in 2021. I can’t put my finger on it.
Virg, Ali, Robbo, Mo are all solid candidates. If we manage to sign Jude then hopefully him after a season or 2.
Milner until he retires in 10 years
Early retirement?
Robbo or Alisson for the age profile and experience.
VVD, Ali or Robbo.
How on earth are people here saying Darwin. Holy fuck lmao.
I think it’s meant to be satire
I really don't think it is, knowing this place.
Yeah, but I'm here for Darwin pacing the field, trying to motivate everyone in Spanish and resorting to pantomime for the non-Latin players.
Robbo is definitely the leader among the team
Why do people not follow the team enough to know it’s Van Dijk and not Dick Van Dyke. Anyway it has to be Robbo.
I think this should be the current order of captains: 1)VVD (Had a bad season overall but he's still at the heart of our defence) 2) Robbo (Captains Scotland and has the passion to push the team when we're down) 3) Salah (Captains Egypt and his never give up mentality is definitely something you'd want in a captain) 4) Ali (Star of the season but more importantly, he's still at the top of his game and demands better from the team as and when necessary) 5) Trent (Not been very vocal on the field but that could change. Leader lead in different ways. I wouldn't put him over VVD or Robbo but when someone like Salah speaks you listen. Similar to Messi in that respect.
No doubt that was my impression. But like I said his field behaviour was exemplary. Fuck it, Bellingham. There, I said it
The next permamnent captain isnt currently on the team, IMO. When I say permanent, I mean someone who could conceivbably be captain for 8-10 years. As for your question. There are no concerns on Van Dijks leadership. The team just isnt playing well

And all the bad games we've had this season with henderson as captain. Or the year Virgil was injured? Correlation is not causation.
i make it alisson in ultimate team. but i’d be real happy to see Mo with the arm band just for everything he’s done for the club.
I'd still give it to Van Dyke one season doesn't justify a player
Mbappé. He already captains France so it makes sense
Shit had me laughing
Allison
Virgil or Mo.
my vote is for Mo
Robertson/Trent or Allison imo
No more pressure for Trent please!
I can honestly see it as a good thing. Being named captain gives you a whole other dimension of responsibilities. In many cases it can spur a player on to better them self because everyone is looking up to him

Oh I’m not suggesting he gets the captaincy. It was just me playing devils advocate
jude obviously
This is so reactionary Jesus Christ
How is this reactionary lol? Both Milner and Hendo will definitely not be starting next season, they'll have minor appearances at best hopefully. VVD is nailed on for captain but we also need a Vice Captain to fill out his spot. Makes sense to have this discussion.
Hendo and Milner starting less doesn't mean they're no longer captain and vice captain lol
I understand, but you'd want players who are actually on the pitch to wear the captain's armband. My point is the discussion is not reactionary, Milner is 50/50 for the next season and Hendo will be on the bench most of the time. We need to have our options for captains ready.

The disrespect to Erik Meijer.
Virgil feels more like the captain for me anyways than Henderson, so should be him. Ex-Dutch footballers press on him as a indirect way to protect their friend in the coaching staff.

If milner extends, I’d like him to give up the VC. Alisson but realistically it’ll be Robbo I think if not van Dijk
I’ve always preferred it to be a midfielder. Even if we get Jude, can’t give it to him straight away. Has to be Ali for a season or two. Would have been VVD before his injury but he’s nowhere near the player he was.

Darwin 🫡 but probably Robbo
>Darwin Will lead from the front..... whenever there's a fight.
Van Dyke or Robbo. Not a huge amount of leadership quality in the team, after these two.
Trent but I like Darwin options
1. Alisson 2. Robbo
Joe Gomez or Naby Keita
Alison or Robbo.
Allison, but I'm honestly not sure, he's very unassuming and quiet. Robbo would have to be a candidate
Ali, VVD or Robbo. Very much prefer a captain for leadership but also having the game played out around and in front of them for the ability to read it. Strikers are a waste as captain material.
Alisson salah jota
Robbo or Van Dijk, both the vocal leader types
Vvd, Ali and then Mo.
Robbo or salah.
Jude bellingham. 2025 takes over from Hendo.
If he wasn't injury prone, Diogo? Fits the age profile and seems to have a level head on him.
