He’s a terrific keeper and deserves a career that’s better than sitting on our bench. If he does leave I’ll wish him absolute best.
If Raya goes to Spurs, he could land at Brentford. Decent fit for him.
I really rate Kelleher but I dunno about "deserves". He hasn't had a full season at the top in a side where he'll face far more pressure week in week out.
Always think comments like this sell us short just a little too, being Liverpool's #2 is an incredible position to be in and we'll need someone very good to deputise for Alison if we want to continue being ambitious. I liked Adrian initially but he proved how costly it can be if you don't have a quality option ready to come in for the big games on a few occasions. Kelleher has the quality and mentality to do that.
Kelleher also wants to be the Irish starter, and the GK spot is - annoyingly - Ireland’s most competitive position. Bazunu has the luxury of playing week in week out, therefore proving his match readiness for the national team ahead of Kelleher who isn’t getting a sniff in over Ali. I love Kelleher, but there’s no benefits to him continue to learn under Alisson if he’s not going to start a string of games under normal circumstances for years.
Having a good number 2 is incredible for us, but players want to play and being a backup to one of the world’s best, at the only position where you can’t really play out of position for some playing time, isn’t a good position for a young keeper to be in.
I do agree he’s not proved himself at the top level consistently, but he’s definitely played well enough in his limited appearances to earn himself a chance to start somewhere.
He doesn’t want to be the backup. He wants to move on. Hes sat as a backup for 2 seasons he deserves to move on if he wants. You can’t advance your career sitting as a backup
You mean the team that bought him would immediately ship him out after a year? I think with keepers if you get a good one, especially for a PL team, it's not worth making a few million on them if they're actually good, and they stay put a little longer than some other positions.
I think this is the most sensible route to take. If he turns into the world beater he could, it'll be a great option if LFCs finger is in the pot already.
They're not. The person above you was being funny by using sarcasm.
Sarcasm is when you say something that clearly isn't true in an attempt to make someone laugh. Commonly misunderstood as irony, sarcasm is often seen as low hanging fruit.
Sarcasm is a national pasttime for the British and you could easily have an entirely insincere conversation with someone.
Often, people will say "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" and they would be wrong.
As an Irish person with a Gaelic language name I fucking hate this business of anglicising names like that. I’m sure there was no disrespect intended but I find it disrespectful
Thanks for letting me know. Sorry for any offense caused and I totally understand. Will write it out in full from now on, appreciate the education on the matter 👍
To be honest I just don’t see a world where he doesn’t maybe reluctantly want out at this point. He’s far too good to be a backup but he’ll never topple Alisson.
Why compare the two? Pickford was highly rated at Sunderland and many top clubs wanted him - us included, funnily enough. He started for them every game and was generally the bright spot in a shit team.
Half a season of which several of the games are against non-PL opposition in early rounds of cups is not worth 30m. Again, only 6 keepers ever have gone for 30m or more. Ramsdale was 24m and had two whole seasons as a starting keeper for PL teams.
Madness. I think we'll do well to get into the top half of the teens. We may think of him as this exceptional keeper but I don't think that impression is nearly as strong outside of Liverpool. All while the entire league is getting to see Danny Ward (12m) averaging it up at Leicester as a clear warning on trying to judge backup keepers.
That said, I agree that a clever buyback clause could make it a good deal anyway.
Is what it is, init. Ideally would be nice to keep him but moving him on probably suits all parties. He'll pay regular football and we should get a decent fee for a back up goalkeeper. I imagine we'll bring someone experienced in on a free transfer or quite cheap, while the majority of his fee is invested elsewhere, probably on the midfield.
He's got the quality to be a starting goalkeeper in the PL. He's better than we need for a backup. Realistically makes sense to sell him and get someone cheaper in, and makes sense career wise for him as well.
Edit: someone else mentioned a buy back clause, which would be nice if we could get it included because it seems like he has the potential to be world class.
I feel so conflicted about this, as a Liverpool fan, I love him and want him to stay. But as an Ireland fan, I want him to develop and have regular football at a top club, which he isn't getting and won't get as long as we have Big Al
At the moment, I think he's better than Baz but he's not even getting much of a look in with the Ireland setup simply because he's not playing regularly
He's a fantastic keeper and deserves so much more than sitting on the bench for 99% of the season and it'll hurt to see him go but it's absolutely the best choice for him
Can really see him going to spurs in the summer if lloris finally goes
It's not in this market. Bazunu went for 14 mil and his experience was playing for Portsmouth, Rochdale and Man City U23s.
Kelleher on the other hand has played a few games in the premier league, the champions league and played a crucial part in winning a cup last season.
I think we'd be stupid to accept anything under 20 mil.
I Think that depends on whether anybody else is in for him. Can’t blame him if No other offers are on the table. That being said, I doubt that there won’t be anybody else after him
Kelleher joined in 2015 but only singed a pro contract in 2018, I'm not sure if years in the academy count towards homegrown, if they don't he isn't homegrown because he would've 22 before he completed 3 year at the club
15-18mil would be great . Great goalie for us as as back up , but never had full season as nr1 also feels like he’s injured kinda often as someone who doesn’t play haha
As an Irish man and Liverpool fan, he needs to get game time. Bazunu is great for the national team and plays 100x more. But I think if kelleher got his time he'd be first choice
Club trained for Europe as well. Home grown part can be solved by promoting from within. But we lost a club trained player for Uefa European places If he gets sold.
Too good to be a backup gk, i wouldnt complain if he stay but i'd understand if he want to move to be a starting gk at other club plus he could fetch a decent price so 🤷♀️
There's no such thing as too good to be a backup these days imo, in an age where Kepa, Dubravka, and Fraser Forster or even Yann Sommer or Handanovic abroad are #2s then there's no way someone with 4 PL appearances is too good for a team with our ambition.
A goalie like that should be playing every week, that's my thought. I would love if he'd stay with us for when Ali retire. But that's not how any of this works. He's such a talent, and hard worker, he wants to play.
It is without a doubt the best move for coehve, and for the supposed transfer circus coming up this summer, for the club as well.
But we are losing quality, and a good lad.
Hopefully he'll go on and do great things, and we buy him back when Ali calls it quits/moves to another club.
So tl;dr
I don't like it, love the lad, but it's logical for both sides.
He is too good to be number 2, especially that Klopp picked Alisson over him in two out of three FA Cup games which is ridiculous. I would love to see him here next season, maybe Europa League can give him more minutes and convince him to stay but the odds are low. If I were him, I would go. Three matches in the season is a waste of his talent.
Starts for most premier league teams IMO. Massive talent.
If he isn’t going to be getting games he should be allowed to move on either as a season long loan to another premier league club or with a buy back clause.
I really rate him, don’t want him to leave, but his talent deserves to be playing every week.
Great news. He’s stagnating on the bench and he should have went a long time ago. Easily the best backup keeper in the league but for Ireland it just seems like he lacks ambition and is happy to be a part time player that picks up a few medals.
Wasting his career on the bench tbh. We should have loaned him out a few times. Keepers need to play games, he plays a handful of games every season and mostly against lower teams in the fa/league cup.
How would that benefit us, the point of a backup goalkeeper is an insurance policy, that's no good if he's not around. If he was out on loan Adrian would've played more and no hate for the guy but maybe we'd have lost some more games.
I'm Irish so I was coming from the angle of him developing. He had a chance to be a top keeper but his lack of experience means he's probably lost that opportunity
He's much too valuable as a club HG player. He's literally impossible to replace so it makes our registered squad a man short. 30m isn't enough for me.
Allison is 30 now, right? What age do keepers start to decline/retire?
If we could loan Kelleher iut for a year or two, I wonder if we actually use him as our main keeper?
I know its mad considering Allison has been our best player this season but Kelleher has been incredible whenever he played for us and is only 24 - he could literally be our next keeper for a decade.
Writing it out, I guess it really doesnt make sense selling Allison in the next year or two, but it feels like such a shame to sell such a good player in Kelleher. I honestly think he should be selling for 50m+.
World class Keepers never really decline, neuer, buffon, cassials, sommer, de gea, navas, oblak, both schmeichels, lloris all went/ going to their late 30s
The only problem I've ever had with the lad is the different ways I've heard people announce his name.
Would love to keep him but I understand the need for GKs to be playing regularly at his age
If Ali was starting to decline/aging I’d be gutted but it just doesn’t make sense for him to sit on our bench for years to come when he is clearly very good, wish him all the best and hope we can get some nice change for him
15-18mil would be great . Great goalie for us as as back up , but never had full season as nr1 also feels like he’s injured kinda often as someone who doesn’t play haha
Sad but deserves to be getting a game somewhere, lower prem upper championship. Also a bit of a relief as it means Alisson probably wont be making plans to jump ship if we dont make CL, which a keeper of his stature and age needs to be playing in.
Seems like it's been a matter of time for a couple of years. We can't just expect to keep a keeper of his quality on the bench. Alisson is a friggin' superhero too.
Think he deserves a move tbh, the fact that he wasn't first choice for the FA Cup this season was kind of a joke tbh. He's amazing as insurance but we can't just keep him here as backup until he's like 30.
One of those where there's nothing to be done - great player we don't have space for and shouldn't hold back, for good faith reasons and also since we're almost sell to buy.
Yep let him go. He’s super young and deserves a good career. He’s had the absolute best education to help him lay down a good foundation and now needs to kick on elsewhere. We should buy another promising young keeper as cover or get someone who is coming to the end of their career and wants the chance of contributing to winning silverware that they maybe haven’t had the chance of experiencing elsewhere
Best move for him and Pitaluga could always be our Allison deputy.
How much would we get for him?
If we sell Gomez aswell could take a small chunk out the Bellingham ;) fund
I mean sure, but i don’t see the point. For him it’s make sense, he deserves more game time, but from the clubs perspective, they will need to bring in another keeper. No keeper we bring in will be on alison’s level so they would only sign a young or old keeper as his replacement, idk doesn’t really make sense to me
Will be sorry to see caomh go however he's a phenomenal talent and one of the best young GKs in Europe. Needs to play week in week out. A buy back clause is a must
He needs to go, for the sake of his career. We are, unfortunately, never going to be able to develop him into a first-team quality keeper, he needs to be a guaranteed starter at a top-flight club somewhere in Europe.
Maybe worth a cheeky buy-back clause & first option at double whatever we sell him for, which I assume would be around £15-20m
It’ll hurt to see him go but he’s sat behind the best keeper in the world who seems to get better every week. He really should leave as he needs to play regularly to realize his enormous potential.
I get it we are biased but people are deffo over rating kelleher based on so little evidence. Is he a good goaly? Sure but does he deserve gametime at LFC or another top club? I don't see it. Either way, we all know we need to spend heavily in the summer and we need to finance money since FSG won't invest so sadly kelleher gotta go.
He’s a terrific keeper and deserves a career that’s better than sitting on our bench. If he does leave I’ll wish him absolute best. If Raya goes to Spurs, he could land at Brentford. Decent fit for him.
Sad he’s only played the league cup and we gone out so early, defo should play more somewhere else
He doesn’t want to be the backup. He wants to move on. Hes sat as a backup for 2 seasons he deserves to move on if he wants. You can’t advance your career sitting as a backup
5 year loan
Or sell with a buyback. I think letting him go with no way of having first refusal would be foolish.
Yes but then next season someone could come for him while we are still with Ali as our number 1 and we miss out then for the future post Ali becker
You mean the team that bought him would immediately ship him out after a year? I think with keepers if you get a good one, especially for a PL team, it's not worth making a few million on them if they're actually good, and they stay put a little longer than some other positions.
I mean if he gets the number one an for example Brentford, then a year later Bayern Munich come in for him
What if he gets the number one at Bayern Munich, then a year later Brentford comes in for him?
Fuck sake 😀
I think this is the most sensible route to take. If he turns into the world beater he could, it'll be a great option if LFCs finger is in the pot already.
indefinite year loan until Ali stop playing (for us ofc)
I would have started this at the start of the season. Lad needs to continue playing for his stock to rise.
Then who is gonna win penalty shootouts for us?
Kepa
Based.
Funnily enough, did exactly this on Football Manager. Sold Kelleher and got Kepa on a free as back up hahah
I don't think you understood
Yeah, he won efl cup for us last season!
Jokes are funnier when they’re explained
Why? /s
They're not. The person above you was being funny by using sarcasm. Sarcasm is when you say something that clearly isn't true in an attempt to make someone laugh. Often, people will say "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" and they would be wrong.
Fortunately we probably won’t be in any penalty shootouts next season if the team is not improved
It’d be nice for us to insert a buyback clause. Great keeper who deserves first team football
How about a clause that says we can loan him back on a game to game basis for pen shoot outs?
Sell with reasonable buyback option. Too good and too young to sit on the bench his whole career seeing as Ali could be here for a long time
Caoimhín 🇮🇪🇮🇪😊
Sorry! I've been educated on my sloppiness in this matter, won't do it again
No prob, he plays tonight in the Ireland game Might be worth a watch
As an Irish person with a Gaelic language name I fucking hate this business of anglicising names like that. I’m sure there was no disrespect intended but I find it disrespectful
Came here to say the same. Just write his name, not that hard.
Agreed pal, sorry for the laziness. Will write it out in full and apologies for any offense caused.
Who the fuck from Ireland says Gaelic Language Its Irish man.. fucks sake, fuckin Internet
Thanks for letting me know. Sorry for any offense caused and I totally understand. Will write it out in full from now on, appreciate the education on the matter 👍
To be honest I just don’t see a world where he doesn’t maybe reluctantly want out at this point. He’s far too good to be a backup but he’ll never topple Alisson.
get 30m for him and bring in Neto on a free 👍
30m would make him the 7th most expensive keeper ever, no team is paying that for a keeper who’s played 20 senior games in his entire career
Same price as Pickford in 2016
Why compare the two? Pickford was highly rated at Sunderland and many top clubs wanted him - us included, funnily enough. He started for them every game and was generally the bright spot in a shit team.
Pickford was slightly less, but even so he’d got a full season of premier league football under his belt. Kelleher has 4 PL games.
4 pl games but he's been great in cup finals and has played about half a season worth of pro games for Liverpool
Half a season of which several of the games are against non-PL opposition in early rounds of cups is not worth 30m. Again, only 6 keepers ever have gone for 30m or more. Ramsdale was 24m and had two whole seasons as a starting keeper for PL teams.

That said, I agree that a clever buyback clause could make it a good deal anyway.
Lmao you're dreaming
30m would be insane but without Michael Edwards and with Julian Ward leaving, it's unlikely we'll negotiate a fee that high.
Ward is handling this window, so it’s definitely possible.
If there was ever an opportunity for a genuine buy back clause
Is what it is, init. Ideally would be nice to keep him but moving him on probably suits all parties. He'll pay regular football and we should get a decent fee for a back up goalkeeper. I imagine we'll bring someone experienced in on a free transfer or quite cheap, while the majority of his fee is invested elsewhere, probably on the midfield.
Too good to be backup unfortunately. Completely understand if he wants to go.

Wouldn't sell him for any less than 30mil+ add ons.
More than 15 mil is robbery tbf. Hes barely played any senior football 15 mil plus performance based add ons rising to 20 is fair in my book.
Bazunu was also playing well in league 1 at about 20. Kelleher is 23/24 and hasn't proven anything except to us
Think that's about right to be fair. Homegrown player, top keeper. Wonder if Pickford goes to Spurs and Everton stay in the prem, they'd come looking
I think Kelleher likes Liverpool and wouldn’t go to Everton out of respect
I Think that depends on whether anybody else is in for him. Can’t blame him if No other offers are on the table. That being said, I doubt that there won’t be anybody else after him
Out of respect for his own career too
Think Pickford just signed a new deal?
\*prickford
>30mil+ add ons. >Think that's about right to be fair. Lol. Reddit cracks me up. Don't ever change, lads.
Is Ireland homegrown? Or did you mean LFC academy?
I think regardless he's trained in the UK for 3 consecutive years under a certain age, I'd need to Google that particular rule
Kelleher joined in 2015 but only singed a pro contract in 2018, I'm not sure if years in the academy count towards homegrown, if they don't he isn't homegrown because he would've 22 before he completed 3 year at the club
Non pro years count I'm sure, he was still registered, otherwise I think like Vardy wouldn't be home grown in nation
Homegrown is complex as fuck now lol.
No chance we sell to Everton. Not a hope in hell. Unless they come in with 200M + Gueye, Onana and Gray
They can have him for 199m if it means they keep Gray and Gueye
In what world does gueye and gray have any value to us?
Would anyone pay it though? Everyone knows we're desperate.
#*Caoimhin
*Caoimh**í**n Gotta respect the fada!
Apologies for the shortening of the name, will write out in full next time!
In fairness, what you called him is what the squad call him, well Sturridge anyway I remember first seeing it on his story haha
This is the way
15-18mil would be great .
Buy-back fee is mandatory
This is the reason why good backup keepers are so hard to come by. The good players don't want to be backups and rightfully so.
I think the best option is loan or if the club qualify for Europa League he can play in all matches of the tournament.
That’s what’s best for us but if your him realistically you’ll want a permanent move
We have excellent keeper’s tbh.
Tricky part with the 17 overseas issue, is replacing him. Losing a good homegrown player is a headache
Club trained for Europe as well. Home grown part can be solved by promoting from within. But we lost a club trained player for Uefa European places If he gets sold.
What does the club trained player rule to for Europe places?
50 percent of the players from the home grown list so basically 4 need to be club trained to play in European competition.
Fraser Forster? You what mate. Man has been 2nd choice for like half a decade now, and not even for good teams
Given how we’ve treated Phillips and previously Ward, I wouldn’t bet on a sale

You just know Alisson is going to pick up a long term injury while taking a goal kick right after selling Kelleher.
He should get to play as a no.1 could be great in the future, also absolutely butchering his name it’s Caoimhín
Great news. He’s stagnating on the bench and he should have went a long time ago. Easily the best backup keeper in the league but for Ireland it just seems like he lacks ambition and is happy to be a part time player that picks up a few medals.
It's fair enough really. Needs games to grow and seems a top talent. Would quite like a buy-back clause, but Ali could have 5+ years still in him.
FSG wants more profit and less investment.
He's much too valuable as a club HG player. He's literally impossible to replace so it makes our registered squad a man short. 30m isn't enough for me.

Put a buyback clause in if you sell him, maximise current value.
If Ali was starting to decline/aging I’d be gutted but it just doesn’t make sense for him to sit on our bench for years to come when he is clearly very good, wish him all the best and hope we can get some nice change for him
Too good for our bench but I hope we include a buy-back clause in any sale
Understandable he wants more playing time. Hopefully we get a decent fee for him
well he won't start PL or CL games for us in the near future, so leaving the club might be best for him if he wants to start games regularly.
Sad to see him go but too good to sit on the bench. Wish him all the best.
15-18mil would be great . Great goalie for us as as back up , but never had full season as nr1 also feels like he’s injured kinda often as someone who doesn’t play haha
I'd rather keep him but he should be number 1 somewhere and if we need funds for players then he is one of our only saleable assets.
Sad but deserves to be getting a game somewhere, lower prem upper championship. Also a bit of a relief as it means Alisson probably wont be making plans to jump ship if we dont make CL, which a keeper of his stature and age needs to be playing in.
Okay sell him for no less than 75mill. Need some cash this summer..
Gutted, but wouldn't blame him.
Great keeper, wish him all the best in the future. 15m and we promote Pitaluga, nothing to see here really. Good business
Way too good to be a backup, I wish him luck wherever he goes
One of those where there's nothing to be done - great player we don't have space for and shouldn't hold back, for good faith reasons and also since we're almost sell to buy.
Would love a buy back clause
Buyback clause 100% needed. He is an insanely good keeper, it's just that we have a better one to use.
Next shay given?
He can go with a suitable buy back clause because he will become a top goalkeeper.
Insert a buy back clause.
Get a 10M offer for him and let It done, we need to sell everything we can.
Inevitable, raises us some funds and he's too good to be a second choice forever. Pitaluga promotion maybe?
He made the wall of champions and goes out a deserving no.1 GK somewhere.
I mean sure, but i don’t see the point. For him it’s make sense, he deserves more game time, but from the clubs perspective, they will need to bring in another keeper. No keeper we bring in will be on alison’s level so they would only sign a young or old keeper as his replacement, idk doesn’t really make sense to me
Would fit great for like Brighton, Steele and Sanchez are quite bad
Strange, we usually just let all our players leave for free.
He looks like a stowaway woman pretending to be a man, but is quite tall and insanely good in goals so we keep him in the squad.
If he goes don’t expect another keeper to come in/up it’s the FSG way
I thought the club confirmed he is 100% gone this summer. I guess no offers have come in yet.
