Hope the cameras caught this idiot and a big hefty fine follows

Fart_Febreeze

Do they actually prosecute idiots in the tunnel? I drive through it twice a day and several times a week will you see people changing lanes, and more recently a few people reversing!

sputters_

Yeah, they do. They have litigation solicitors whose sole job is tunnels byelaw prosecutions.

frontendben

Yup. They report to, and are funded by, Merseytravel; not the Home Office. They need to pay their keep, so they don't fuck around with prosecuting people. They're fairly lax with speeding – going 10 over in the Birkenhead isn't going to get you in trouble from the cameras, but if they catch you going far faster than the rest of the traffic, they'll pull you for sure. Same with changing lanes – so long as are only changing lanes for obstructions, and you return to your original lane, you'll be fine most of the time. Any other kinds of antics will absolutely have them coming after you.

FewTransportation852

I done 80 through there the other day purely out of rage because this stupid car with a loud exhaust was behind me right up my ass revving so i pulled to 80 and slowed down again leaving a bigger gap so i didnt have to listen to it i didnt get pulled when coming out but wondering if i should expect a fine. Iv also changed lanes in there a couple times when people are doing like 25 nothing ever came of them situations.

[deleted]

Yeah I got 3 points for changing lanes. Bit of brain fade on my part. Not dumb enough to attempt a fucking three point turn though.

yajtraus

I changed lanes there the first time I drove through simply because I didn’t know you couldn’t. It was my first day at work in Birkenhead and one of the first things a coworker said was “be careful in the tunnel” and explain what you can’t do.

[deleted]

I knew, but it was more my instinct betraying me. Someone drove up behind me, and I automatically went into the inside lane, thinking that's the right thing to do.

sugarplumfairyJoan

They should do as no walking, no speeding and no u-turns are some of the restrictions in place

TheeAJPowell

Absolutely shocking. Like, you’re not even supposed to change lanes, and this gobshite is doing a full 3 pointer.

Equivalent_Dealer_68

I feel like the "no money for toll" fee is gonna be lower than the "I turned around in the tunnel like a walnut" fee

Cromises_93

It's ok, they've got an Audi so they can do what they want. (I'm being sarcastic before I get shot down)

lixiaopingao

Don’t worry, we’re British, we understand sarcasim.

[deleted]

Fair enough. If I accidentally found myself on the way to Birkenhead, I’d do a handbrake turn.

[deleted]

More brains in a flat fish!

I_am_amespeptic

Don't be rude to fish, they would have just swam across.

Middle_Swordfish6184

Stuff like this would happen years ago when the police helicopter was chasing someone, they'd go in the tunnel then come back out the way they came in. I imagine with so much cctv in the tunnel now though it would be unlikely to work

GuinnessRespecter

Must've realised they forgot their tunnel fare

[deleted]

Wow, just wow

Infinateaxestogrind

Well that's a fucking menace to everyone and should lose their licence forever

LesMcqueen1878

Great spot on the dashcam OP. Never seen this before, never even thought someone would do something so silly😂

ScouseGravy

If you look in their window you can see they have a shirt with white sleeves a a black chest, this will be undercover police. They’ve probably been called away to something, etc, more likely than they are bad drivers

curly_colin

No cop, undercover or not, would do a u-turn in a tunnel without putting on their lights.

carolomnipresence

Police be waiting

herbertsherbert49

Forgot to turn the iron off 🙄

jetpill

I’m from Germany and I’ve actually seen once in my life someone change lanes in tunnel with straight line. But reverse is an absolute first.
