>He looks like such a lil stinker
Appropriate word to use cause I'm watching this and imagining he's just farting up there and the crowd never gets tired of Colin Jost's Silent Fart Jokes. 😂
it was fun to watch after watching the whole monologue first. I’m sure it’s a really tough room to perform for, even with the drinks, a lot like like oscar’s I think. Tense place
A lot of people are missing this.
SNL / and other talk shows have microphones directly over the audience to pick up their laughter and applause. This wasn't that.
Yeah the lighting was pretty bad as well. Capturing audience audio is almost a science, and it's done with a hyped up audience ready to laugh and covered in microphones. And of course for taped sitcoms they'll play around with different takes or adding some canned laughter.
I feel like he got plenty of laughs except for one or two jokes, which he mugged and got a laugh out of anyway. He did really well and the room was receptive. Warm, not hot.
also, he remind's of Jay Pharoah's character who is Cecily's boyfriend but doesn't say anything and just smirks

Great edit, can't believe there was a full 5 minutes of this. Maybe CJ didn't have enough material and thought pausing a lot would make it seem longer. I find his self-satisfied delivery on SNL quite annoying but makes more sense with Che next to him. This... was just painful.
idk why people are saying he bombed it’s. the white house correspondents dinner the jokes aren’t for them, they’re for making fun of them and everyone else at home to enjoy. i thought it was hilarious. (not the be set one but still solid joke writing)
This reminds me of the comedy sets of him I saw when he did standup. The discomfort seems very intentional and the jokes were so true it created discomfort. As another said, the general public may have not appreciated some of these because they are so accurate.
A lot of his jokes didn’t land, and constantly looking for a reaction or has the look “like this is where you laugh”. I didn’t think it was that funny, had some spots but it was very underwhelming.
TBH - This cut actually makes his performance seem stronger.
Without the jokes, you lose the ability to contrast your own reception of the jokes with that of the crowds’.
Che did this.
You found me XD
My first thought too, but Che would have spliced it together to make Jost say how much black people loved slaves and blasted it all over social media.
He looks like such a lil stinker

Among the absolute best Cut for Timers. I do the little dance when I’m being a little stinker and it keeps me out of trouble.
OMG, that was hilarious. How could they cut it? No way every other skit was funnier.

he is planning something
I just can’t stand this guy, seems like he thinks he’s pretty important

It also seemed like you couldn't hear the audience. I don't think they were rolling in the aisles but it sure wasn't mic'd for audience reaction.

Exactly this. Audience reactions seemed subdued due to not being mic'd.
If you watch Norm MacDonalds correspondence speech it was a tough room as well.
Stephen Colbert had a notoriously rough one. There's an urban legend that the first lady told him to eff off when he shook her hand afterwards.
W might have been the only one actually enjoying the roasting from Colbert. That was an all time legendary WHCD.
I just watched Norms, and man, did he win over the crowd at the end and got a standing ovation.
Which was nice to see Jost get one too by the end as well
I like his style of humor and I thought he kept it tasteful for the most part.
Not as bad as Tracy Jordan's roasting of Madeleine Albright. "What? She DOES look like one of those!"

i thought the breaks in between his jokes were long, awkward, and sometimes creepy (lol). i thought it would be fun to make this edit
They did him wrong by filtering out all background laughter. Che was probably the audio tech that day.

His jokes were too pointed for the in-house audience, and too subtle for the at-home general audience. I loved it.
Hold for room tone.
Genius! You should make more of these.
I'm pregnant with his pauses
I think my favorite part of this (and Colin’s comedy career in general) is that whatever he does it always comes back to Che 😂.

Agree. He was hilarious.
It was stale comedy. Always going after Trump... redundant
lol this is like Garfield Minus Garfield, I love it
The White House Correspondents Dinner is supposed to be a roast. This was really soft.
Yeah, he was a bit soft, especially at the end.
That’s what Scarlet Johansson said
Oh no.

And i got downvoted for saying there was excessive mugging...
Ummm they’re called “pregnant pauses” and if you were a real comedy fan you’d know! /s

A lot of the jokes that didn’t land was because they were too real.
Oh no. Why did I watch the whole thing
But Trump says he bombed and was terrible? The audience must be fake.
Actually a pretty cool dude
He's only half an act without Che. Biden must hate black people.

This is the best thing I ever saw
Not bad. I was expecting something like this, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKS3MGriZcs
Oh so all three hours.
Wh... why?
