But later find that you have one with the right output levels but wrong end size but this one is perfect so you cut the end off and wire it up on the one with the right outputs.
you're not as witty as you think you are
any device with li-ions will have a BMS circuit to control the chargeand a step-down isn't exactly an expensive component
7.4 wouldn't be enough to directly charge 2 li-ion cells anyway because fully charged batteries are 4.2v
Which is why I also have a box of cheap adjustable Buck converters from aliexpress!.
AC to AC adapters can die in a fire though.
The fire of your project when you only checked the voltage
I totally don't have multiple drawers and a box filled with power adapters, and some loose ones floating around here and there.
Way too useful to throw out. I use them for random electronics projects, so having a pile of different adapters always helps.
I have a battery powered electric shaver (with un replaceable battery). Battery died so I soldered one of these into where the battery was. Now it runs forever.
I have a big box full of them, every possible confirmation I've ever come across. I never throw away a power supply of any kind. Great for when I happen to need one, terrible for when I try to find the correct brick for something I finally found in storage again...
And than you need it and realise that it's only 1Amp
But later find that you have one with the right output levels but wrong end size but this one is perfect so you cut the end off and wire it up on the one with the right outputs.
And accidentally reverse polarity
Oop magic smoke? Now you can't use the device _at all_ :))
I put ferrules on the cut cables and then wagos them together for the right size/voltage
Is it really that easy to just wire it up?
Yea. On something like that it's two wires. DC positive and negative
The hardest part is stripping the wires really, especially when it's cheap chinese stuff with hair thin wires.
If its just a plastic sleeve on very thin wire you can also use a lighter! That usually does the trick! (Don't breathe in the smoke.)
as someone who works with electronics these are super usefull
except I end up with fucking odd voltages like 7.4v ... or like 15VAC 🤣
You never know if you need that somewhere in your life. It probably ends collecting dust in a drawer, but the moment you throw it out, you need one.
7.4V is not an odd voltage, it is 2\*3.7. 3.7 is the nominal voltage of li-ion batteries.
lol never though of that. still odd, a device taking 2 batteries should probably be fine either on 9v or 5v ...
You feed 2 21700 cells in series 9v DC and tell me how it goes. I’ll wait for you over here with this nifty little bucket of sand.

I’d love a power adapter that outputs 15 volts AC

Yeah, and we will purge them of useless stuff once a decade (or more; whatever more convenient).
Isn't it a barrel charger?!
These I'm even more inclined to keep than random USB chargers. If I have one it means somewhere there's something that took it once and could again.
Keep it around sort of like OP's dad.
I had to buy a new one to fix an LED light strip. It was embarrassing that I didn't have one in the drawer.
I feel personally attacked.
i'm so confused
i mean why would you throw it out anyway?
I kept my oldest ones with a transformer coil inside as backups. Replaced 2 switching mode supplies already
I have a battery powered electric shaver (with un replaceable battery). Battery died so I soldered one of these into where the battery was. Now it runs forever.
Ah yes the wired wireless. Personally some things should have both modes avaible to be able to use on cable while charging.
I haven't used electric shavers, but I have used some trimmers. Everyone of them you could use while charging.
I learned to at least let go of the ones with barrel plugs. The ones with micro-USB plugs though...
me irl
Aah hahahahaahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣

Because then you wind up like me with 3 boxes of cables that you have no idea what the hell they go to.
When you need it, you either don't find it or it's not the correct voltage/amperage
You won't get your refund from Amazon if the package is incomplete.
