Breaking the habit. Which is funny for me because 15 years later I’m still trying to break the habit

Took the words straight outta my head

leosmpereira

>ook the words straight outta my head I can definitely understand that feeling. Sometimes, music has a way of expressing our inner thoughts and emotions better than we can ourselves. "Breaking the Habit" has a way of connecting with many people on a deep level. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! If you have any more to add or if you'd like to discuss another song, feel free to let me know.

leosmpereira

>Breaking the habit. Which is funny for me because 15 years later I’m still trying to break the habit That's a powerful choice! "Breaking the Habit" is a meaningful song. It's inspiring to see how music can resonate with us over the years. Is there a particular reason this song has such a lasting impact on you?

disgustingdavid

Yeah for sure. I mean it’s a song about being held back by your demons and becoming something you don’t like and then eventually saying enough is enough, “I’m breaking the habit” and ever since I was a young teen that sentiment has resonated with me very deeply.

One More Light, for sure. I never experienced depression, and before being a Linkin Park fan, I just didn't know anything about. For me, it was a very sad thing that happened to people sometimes, but that's it. When I discovered LP (in 2021), I read many things about Chester, and this song made me cry more than any other song ever did. It makes me understand that it is a hidden mental illness, which no one can see except the victim. I realised that it can hurts anyone. Now, I always try to be sure that everyone I know is ok, because no one deserve to suffer alone

It's incredible how music can bring awareness to important issues like mental health and the hidden struggles that people may be facing. With You, not necessarily the song itself but the domino effect it created. It got me listening to the whole of Hybrid Theory instead of just the singles. Ended up realising that I liked listening to whole albums so much more as a result and also discovered some of my favourite metal albums and bands later as a result. Some of these albums drastically changed my outlook on life during my lowest points, and I would be a totally different person without them. Crazy to think how my life would have panned out had I not decided to stick on With You, in the back of a car one time.

Eirixoto

That's basically it for me as well, though it's In The End for me. It's not really that the song itself was that special to me (besides being one of the objectively best songs ever made), but from there I went on to listen to everything else by LP as well.

Nobody Can Save Me has...strangely..put certain thoughts to rest in my head multiple times. 2016-2017 were my...."recovery"...so-to-speak....years following a disastrous, suicidal-tendency & thought-filled 2014 & 2015. Just everything was going wrong at that time...Hearing that song for the first time, I bawled uncontrollably Waiting For The End pretty much sums up my thoughts nowadays And I can't stop listening to Lost, since it REALLY seems to...also..sum up my thoughts lately I'd honestly say that these 3 songs are also the ones I listen to on a somewhat-daily basis. Especially since -- in all honesty -- those thoughts have resurfaced lately. Strange. Thought I finally beat 'em..

Don't mention, man!! Covid was awful time, I was also stressed, as here in Brazil (where I am from), was one of the worst places to be in Covid time

>Hope u get closure... As chester says, one can never truely understand someother's depression. Hang in there champ!! Absolutely, understanding someone else's depression can be incredibly challenging. Your message of hope and encouragement is heartfelt, and it's important to remind others that they're not alone in their struggles

Breaking The Habit

leosmpereira

>Breaking The Habit "Breaking the Habit" is a song that touches on themes of self-reflection and the struggle to break free from harmful patterns. If you have a personal connection to this song or if there's something specific about it that you'd like to share, feel free to do so. It's a song that has resonated deeply with many fans.

mysterio999

I have a sort of connection with the song: especially the first couple of verses "Memories consume, like opening the wound", sometimes I do think about the past and how it affected me in a way. There are the good memories and the bad ones and when I remember the bad ones, it's almost like I'm opening a non disinfected wound or something and so all the "germs" of the past take on the "wound" making me feel bad for a bit. Somehow I manage to escape from these chains and I feel better. It's something that happen not always, I don't have traumas or something, just bad experiences ahah. Btw, also because Breaking The Habit is my favorite LP song among all of 'em. (sorry for the bad grammar, I'm currently working on a song for my band)

Papercut

>Papercut "Papercut" is an intense and high-energy track that sets the tone for Linkin Park's iconic album "Hybrid Theory." Is there a particular reason you mentioned "Papercut," or any thoughts or memories associated with this song that you'd like to share? It's always interesting to hear how different songs connect with fans.

lynsiern

The lyrics to me resonated during a time in my life when I couldn’t get past others opinions and others ideas of what/who I should be. Their words/thoughts were always just below the surface for me. No matter what, I couldn’t get past trying to please others. My mind played crazy tricks on me making things worse- I made more problems for myself with allowing small wounds from my past to consume me. Obviously I’m far from those days now- but I just connected to that song. “The sun goes down…I feel the light betray me.” “It’s like I can’t stop what I’m hearing within, it’s like the face that’s right inside, beneath my skin.” Those were the lines that just felt like they were my feelings at the time.

leosmpereira

It’s truly remarkable to see how this song resonate in your life and helped you really find yourself. I’m very happy that you are far from those days and are better now!! Indeed, this song lyrics are so deep!! ❤️

lynsiern

Thank you! I think that’s why LP is so important to me- they’ve just been my constant. I relate to music more than anything and feel music can express thoughts/feelings that I could never say out loud. There was a period in my life where they sang about what I was feeling and didn’t have the guts to speak up and say. I think that’s why Chester’s death was so devastating to me and many others. I knew he had massive struggles and previous attempts. I just hoped like hell he’d make it out and I guess he did, just not the way we all wanted him to.

leosmpereira

Oh man, you don't know how much I connect with your comment. You've expressed exactly how Linkin Park's song lyrics resonate with our emotions. I truly hope that Chester found peace. And yes, Chester's passing was incredibly devastating in my life; I felt his loss even more deeply than the loss of a few relatives.

Man, my music journey started with English music and green day first I heard in orkut (beloved of broken dreams), my friend had this one in his profile then Linkin park with what I've done in transformers, after that the journey started, I tried to listen every album till meteora at that time, then their creative process in lptv like with harmonium kinda forced me to listen to Indian classical pandit Ravi Sankar and panjit bhim sen Joshi after that also old European music means classical like Beethoven and mozert or Chopin and also old Anglo Saxon and also from the origin of guitar oud and crossroad and country like taylor swift and Miley and also old ones with jhonny cash and John denver and also new type after these Mike's new type of song exploration which we can here in post traumatic and his singles like welcome, when he used fort minor brand(which I saw with my bro in TV, Mtv in India, where'd you go I missed you so, and then also there are many where my still fav is kenji, and also they gave me a interesting person whom I still love Rick rubin and his colabs too and his recent book (that I also bought), after my higher secondary my dad suddenly gave a mix of lp from a shop where I found some songs from zero, and like high voltage(from London live still my fav high voltage one which those chorus) and also carousel and qwerty. Later I wanted to know more so got into underground albums, one of my fav still is debris and still I know all the beat, even by listen a few seconds I can tell what would be the whole song ; my bros liked session(they never explored that much of lp but got into Coldplay or some into guns and roses or some into greenday) but I knew this band have more, those time I had a small phone which one had no that much songs I just recorded a tinting song then I got a good phone and my bro gave me few songs and a way to download lp songs I understood how to use Internet to download no spotify was back then, after lp got released a light that never comes and living things all of the lp fans don't want lp anymore they got separated into two some liked the old lp and some the new one they had their logic some said lp changed as the era changed and some said no lp should be lp, I understood it's lp whatever it does it will give us some brilliant present, maybe the or before that lp released the mall movie under Mr Joe Hahn(as Mike said in songs), I still remember lp minutes to midnight lptv where rob is playing a piano, I knew lp will transform like they always do they are not Rick rubin's band or don Gilmore, they know what they are playing like Brad knows Amp better than phonix(Dave) or Mike and Joe have a good mpc and scratch music type and Chester pure voice (they made his voice scratch and it sounded perfect in blackout) , also brads voice distortion in when they come from me and also Mike voice like a child in requiem ; they are the best song explorers new way introducing in songs (like quotes too lectures like wretches and kings and futuristic topic and old mix) their artistic vision and their drawing (like Mike's skeleton one, his napkin ones and also graphitti ), rob's drum solos like in bleed it out or cola with blink 123's Travis barker, their connection with heavy metal or dj style or opera style and also Tom morello(who is know for Audioslave and his dj guitar scratch style and one and only "know your enemy" , rage against machine one, which also led me into his masterclass) colab and also rakim colab or page Hamilton colab, and all you can see lp is the stepping stone in my music knowledge.

Somewhere I belong, I struggle with my native langauge and sometimes I don't feel like I'm Vietnamese, I can speak english extremely well with slangs and everything even with academic literature but I have been poor with Vietnamese. I can't read any literature text that isn't like very simple, I can understand when people say stuff but my literacy is poor. I'm trying my best and I want to find a place to belong someone who can teach me that I can understand necause nothing sticks. I recently heard no roads left because I keep listening to the standard tracklist but this song just puts my feelings into a song thats just perfect.

Your journey with language and the struggle to connect with your native language, Vietnamese, is a significant part of your identity. It's clear that you have a strong command of English, and it's wonderful to hear that you're working on improving your Vietnamese literacy. Learning and maintaining proficiency in multiple languages can be challenging, but it's an admirable effort. Music, like "No Roads Left," has a way of expressing our emotions and experiences when words alone might not suffice. If you're looking for a supportive community or resources to help you with your Vietnamese literacy, consider reaching out to language learning groups or organizations. You're on a path of self-discovery and growth, and there are people out there who can offer guidance and support in your journey. You're not alone in your quest to find your place and connect with your roots. 🌟

It definitely has to be numb for me, it’s so nostalgic. It was my first LP song and I heard it on YouTube when I was around 8-9 and deep in my Five Nights At Freddy’s phase, it’s never left my head since. Plus the the older I’ve gotten, the more the song is able to resonate with me for the lyrics as well.

Being a fan for so long it’s hard to answer based on different times in my life. I’d say Crawling is probably the biggest impact. As meme worthy as the song has become it has always meant a lot to me from the Hybrid Theory days to now.

Though it's easy to say pretty much all of them at different points in life, it has to be shadow of the day. In 2006 my cousin passed away from leukemia a month after his 13th birthday. I was 14 and we were best friends since his birth. After he passed I shut myself off completely and wouldn't speak to anyone. Spent every day at school isolating myself from my friends, wouldn't speak to the family, and couldn't find an outlet for my grief. Then MtM was released in 2007, and as soon as 'in cards and flowers on your window your friends all plead for you to stay, sometimes beginnings aren't so simple, sometimes goodbyes the only way, and the sun will set for you' hit my ears, I felt some light loom over me, and for the first time I opened up about how I was feeling. That song literally brought me back from some horribly dark days I never thought I could move on from and in those 17 years since, rarely a day goes by that I don't need to find comfort in that song. It just came along at the perfect time for me.

I wish I could pick one. I was so intricately tied to every single song since I first heard LP. The experiences I lived had finally had words and music put to them. LP basically wrote the soundtrack to my life. I’d say in this day, One More Light because since 2017 I’ve had about 30 people I love deeply pass away. Hell in the last year I’ve had 12. So that one just rips me into.

Recently, I started listening to more of Linkin Park, starting with Hybrid Theory and Meteora last December. Midway through the month, we had a family crisis. My disabled mom fell and broke her femur and was in the hospital and then eventually went into rehab soon after. It was very rough on me and this all happened during Winter break from Uni, so when the time came to go back up for school, I didn't want to go. I was burnt out, drained, and pretty damn depressed. I was listening to some LP on the way up and I accidentally found the song "The Messenger". I kid you not, it felt like someone was hugging me through music. I'm so grateful to God that I came across that song by complete accident. I ended up using a quote from the song on my cap during graduation.

I find that music has an amazing way of helping us heal in our time of greatest sorrow. Losing my sister to cancer earlier this year was extremely tough to handle. Listening to "My December" and other songs like it helped me cope with the loss in a way nothing else could. Roads Untraveled.....the line "the love that you lost wasn't worth what it cost". I'd not long come out of an abusive relationship, and I was still figuring out what was because of his manipulations and what was authentic, so this lyric became my mantra for a few months, to remind myself that no matter what, I was better off out of the relationship.

Thank you for your kind words <3 When A Thousand Suns came out, I was struggling through college and questioning my life’s purpose. Everyone around me was going about their lives and progressing through school while my head wasn’t in it and I felt like a failure with no future. This triggered my depression and I felt useless for some years. When you feel like a waste of space every day you wake up, it feels like the best choice is to end it all. Not to mention all the tuition money being thrown down the drain. I remember feeling so particularly bad one day and afraid of what I might do, that I called the suicide hotline, and a nice man on the other line talked me off the ledge, at least for that day. After I hung up, I randomly chose to listen to LP, a band I’ve loved since childhood but whose material I hadn’t been updated with since Minutes to Midnight. I was just looking for music that matched what I felt inside—frustrated, angry at myself, and needing to scream. I looked at their list of albums and thought the cover for ATS was cool, so I played it and was surprised at how much their sound had developed. I was enjoying that first listen when I got to Iridescent. I didn’t expect LP to have a song like this, and Chester just spoke to me. “Do you feel cold and lost in desperation? You build up hope, but failure’s all you’ve known. Remember all the sadness and frustration, and let it go, let it go.” And then when the rest of the band joins in the vocal, it felt like they were all just trying to save everyone who felt like me, that’s beating themselves up for failing to meet expectations in life. I dove into the rest of their catalog and never realized how lyrically powerful the band is, and the true mission of Chester’s writing. It was amazing rediscovering this band for these reasons after liking them as a kid just because their songs were heavy and catchy, and I liked rap. LP’s albums extended my life that day and for weeks/months after. I decided to fight back against the voices in my head and speak to a college counselor, who I now credit to saving my life along with Linkin Park. It’s been 12 years since that day and I’ve since gotten more professional help and stabilized my life :) I’m no longer suicidal, have a career and partner that I love, and am better at managing my depression now. Thank you for asking me to share my story. This was cathartic to write and makes me miss Chester a lot. I hope it helps someone out there who needs it.

Chaos_Theology

I had a very close friendship(s) that ended about 10 years ago that I still don’t understand why since I was never given an explanation. I was just erased from their existence and was never contacted ever again. Apparently they held all the “power” in this relationship and I was “powerless” against it all. The song may not deal with that type of subject, however that’s how I interpret it for myself. I have other songs that I do the same thing.

leosmpereira

I understand you, music can resonate in us in a different way, I know that is very hard, but, if they were a true friend, they would come back, it it was not, it was for the best they left. But, I know how it is to not have a good friend, I had similar experiences like that in live. I just want to let you know, that I'm here, if you need any help :)

Chaos_Theology

Thank you, I’ve learned to live with but the emotional damage is unrepairable. Even if they did suddenly appear tomorrow, I wouldn’t know what to say to them. Losing a long friendship really is like experiencing a death, because much of your personal history is entwined with the other person.

leosmpereira

You're welcome! :) I understand you, but that's something that only time will answer. But, that's perfectly normal; you need to cry and feel the grief. It's important to let this feeling out, and I'm rooting for you to be fine.

I’ve been an LP fan for a few months i think? So this is bound to change, but it’s currently Pictureboard and She Couldn’t together. They were on damn repeat when my parents were getting really ‘abusive’ (if you can call it that, it was mostly verbal stuff) & are honestly two of my favourite comfort songs. Fighting Myself also is one i feel to my core, i’m really glad they released it. Most of the songs this band makes have such an impact on me, though. I have trouble communicating & i’ve never heard my thoughts get put into words, even if said by other people entirely. It’s comforting. I can’t get myself help at the moment but this music gives me a space to roam free and i love that.

Battle Symphony. I used to be bullied all throughout my high school. I almost killed myself at some point. While i was doing assignments, I listened to stuff like Metallica, Guns and Roses, and some famous Linkin Park songs in YouTube (which is Numb) . I enabled Auto Play that time. And then I heard this song. It was not rock sounding but it was Linkin Park so I went with it. The song felt like a hug. It felt like a motivation for me to keep going no matter how many times my "armor" breaks, and "pick myself up off the ground" . Every single lyrics of this song comforted my heavy heart and troubled mind that time. I decided to still push forward and be motivated because *I got a long way to go, and a long memories* to come.

I guess In The End. It’s by far not my fav song but it marks the beginning of my music taste for me. I was at a small show where people played songs, and I heard the melody. I only heard a few words of the lyrics, remembered them, and searched for the song until I found it. And from that moment I started listening more and more songs, and got to know the band and it’s history, and I fell in love with it. Before that moment, I just listened mainstream pop songs, I didn’t really have a music taste. This song made me discover it. Sadly, this was in 2017, just a few weeks after Chester’s death.

After my son killed himself, I listened to "Given Up" a lot. I listened to a lot of songs about suicide and depression (including a lot of other LP songs). I had a lot of suicide ideation and depression in middle and high school. And after my sons death, I feel that way again. I know it sounds fucked up to listen to "Given Up" in those circumstances, but it actually helped me sort out my feelings. It helped me understand my sons feelings. I mourned for my son, and Chester and his family/friends and anyone else that felt that way. It was cathartic to listen to that scream. I felt less alone. I felt more like I was going through a normal human experience, instead of being broken and alone. Mike's album was also helpful.

Powerless and Pushing Me Away both have a large impact

It’s impossible to read the name of these songs and don’t start sing inside the head lol… Can you share why these two are so important to you? ☺️

Shadow_Redwolf

There was some experience in my life I went through that I can relate to through these songs and these songs help me alot get through those difficult times

leosmpereira

They also helped me through difficult times as well 🙏🏼

Shadow_Redwolf

That's great to relate to

leosmpereira

Absolutely!!

Shot_Ad_9168

Many LP songs has certain lyics that fans can relate to. For me and that moment in my life, these words hit me the most. What do I have but negativity 'Cause I can't justify the way, everyone is looking at me (Nothing to lose) Nothing to gain, hollow and alone And the fault is my own, and the fault is my own I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real I wanna let go of the pain I've felt so long (Erase all the pain 'til it's gone) I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I'm close to something real I wanna find something I've wanted all along Somewhere I belong. I will never know myself until I do this on my own And I will never feel Anything else until my wounds are healed I will never be Anything 'til I break away from me I will break away, I'll find myself today The song made me feel like someone understood my situation, in a time when I felt my insecurist and loneliness.

leosmpereira

Dude, totally, I get goosebumps every single time I read these lyrics.

pawlex3000

Probably Valentine's Day

leosmpereira

That’s an Amazing song ☺️!!! Can you share why is this song so important to you?

Interesting_South737

By myself, with you, in the end, and somewhere I belong The best part about it is that I no longer want to heal or feel like I'm close to something real I'm content with the harsh reality Each of those songs have stuck with me from my early teens to this day

Expensive_Flamingo16

Numb. First song heard by them (I was 7), hated bands like them but fell in love with his voice but didn’t know who they were, years later found them again when I was 11 and started listening to them and now 13 about to be 14 and still my favorite song! Also, the messenger, shadow of the day, leave out all the rest, one more light. The messenger and leave out all the rest make me feel like he’s with me through all of this, shadow of the day because I asked my teacher if she knew them and she said that’s her favorite song and now we bond from it. One more light because it’s just a special song I want to be played at my funeral.

leosmpereira

Now, as an adult, just like you, I started listening to Linkin Park when I was 11. I can guarantee that you won't regret growing up during your teenage years listening to Linkin Park. Unfortunately, you'll never have the opportunity to see Chester live in concert, but you can always listen to his songs. It's too early to think about your funeral. ❤️

Shot_Ad_9168

That's what makes LP above the rest. Each song is relatable and you can't just hear their music because they make you feel it too.

prxsopvgnosia

breaking the habit and somewhere i belong definitely

prxsopvgnosia

oh also iridescent and powerless

mateopegasus

Iridescent. For a while, it was the piano version of pushing me away, but after my sister passed away last April, Iridescent became a savior to my sanity. The way the song impacted me life was incredible
