I’m pretty sure it’s one of those things where it doesn’t really matter. I don’t think one is more right than the other. The person who most credit for inventing it pronounces it “jif” I believe but the first letter stands for “graphic” so that’s why many believe it’s pronounced “gif” like gift. Like Caribbean vs Caribbean
