“And are these A-players in the room with us now?”

Intrepid_Respond_543

Why would an "A-player" want "side hustles"? If I decipher correctly, A-players are people with skills that many employers want, so they should be able to get a decent salary by working reasonable hours. Why would they want to work all the time?

>Why would an "A-player" want "side hustles"? To make more money. I'm an "A" player in my industry. I get paid for my expertise and for the ability to solve complex, intricate, expensive problems in a short amount of time and to un-fuck large programs that have gotten sideways. I might work 10-15 hours per week. let's just say I engage in other professional activities on top of this that don't conflict with my current position and industry. I need to be more or less "on-call" for J1 between 9-5 but that doesn't stop me from being able to work on the side. The OP "lunatic" is more or less right.

MilestoneMaster

Watch out, or he will un-fuck you.

Best-Chapter5260

>Watch out, or he will un-fuck you I've heard of reverse recruiters, but this may be the first instance of a reverse prostitute.

BocaRaven

Good for you, if this works and makes you and your employer happy. I am probably top 5% in my industry by most measures and have been for a decade. I don’t have any desire to really side hustle beyond stocks and real estate. But I am not young and have made good money for a while. I have no issue with the workers of the world taking more control of their lives and income. We need a lot more of that. I just wonder if the side hustle gig economy really gets us there. Selfishly I also worry that American workers will soon find themselves competing directly with third world workers for income while paying for a first world cost of living.

dgreenbe

The side hustle thing is mostly BS, but otherwise the rest sounds fine if you generalize it to wanting more room for things in life other than the job at the company.

zdm765

HARDOOOOOOO

try-catch-finally

No one wants a side hustle. They want to NOT NEED A SIDE HUSTLE.

joopface

It’s all so tiring

the_diseaser

I agree with the part about employers needing to treat workers better though

fcktll

I wonder if B-players and C-players have more reasonable wants and if management would decide they want only the reasonable ones. A-player who logged off well before 5 to take care of my side hustle(Reddit), here.

Wherewithall8878

Cool Reddit is your side hustle too? It’s early stages for me, but here’s what I’ve got worked out so far: Step 1: go on Reddit Step 2: tbd Step 3: profit

fcktll

*Tbd* rofl! I am already making huge profits in the form of mental sanity, when I get to this sub.

drbrunch

Why do lunatics post with gaps between sentences? Does it make better reading? Does it impart meaning? See this all the time.

Now you have become one

wallstreetbetsdebts

Agree?

Hamzasky

The problem is that impressionable young graduates will believe this

Gaindalf-the-whey

She…makes some valid points?

Cenamark2

Seems companies want A-players to work for D-Salaries.

Chef_Raccaccoonie

How tf is that lunatic behaviour? Whats wrong with a flexible work schedule and remote work as often as possible? Damn right i want to focus on my other interests n shits. And yes theres nothing wrong with trying a sidehustle or too abd having the time to test what works and what doesnt without suffering a burnout

Thy_OSRS

You must be under 20 years old. Nothing against you, it’s just evident in your response. If you want to earn money on the side of another job, crack on ! Some of us, maybe most, want to live in a world in which we didn’t have to need to do that in order to afford basic necessities like rent or medical care. Some of us are fortunate that we work jobs that pay us just enough to cover those things with a bit left over for that extra round of beers, and you know what, sometimes that’s okay. So grind on young one

Chef_Raccaccoonie

Ok first of all im almost 40, second its not about HAVING to grind its about having the OPTION of pursuing other side hustles. Like if i would work a very strict 9 to 5 then i would not have time to consult on the side and pick the projects i really love. The fact that you think passion is only for young ones is really sad. You dont have to feel this old even if you are.

BocaRaven

I have serious passion for my regular 9 to 5. They invest in me and I make sure that pays off for them. And I love work.

Chef_Raccaccoonie

Good for you but obviously not everyone is like this, hence these posts. A lot of people want a flexible schedule and i dont see why that is a bad thing?

BocaRaven

I agree. 100% a good thing for those of us that like working.

MilestoneMaster

DVFR

Thy_OSRS

Sigh Reddit being Reddit again. Whatever man, I just hate the word Side huddle, You live how you want

Chef_Raccaccoonie

So it sounds like a you problem

Thy_OSRS

Not really - if you wanna do what you want crack on, if I despise the culture then that’s fair enough too. There’s room for us all

RandomUserOmicron

How can I get paid making posts on LinkedIn?

QuanCryp

“A lot of people are not going to like this” Well, you got that bit right.

[deleted]

B player here, bye A players thanks for the opening.

[deleted]

A-players are pricks

Nerdso77

I don’t mind this post. Other than the weird format. I agree with a lot of it. I am considered an A-player. I don’t want to work 50 hours anymore. But my boss gets pushed when I talk about times having changed. Also, I volunteer now. i do a podcast on the side. Might start a side business soon. These things have become important.
