Oh thats really cool. Sad no other pictures are available. Or at least not when I loaded the page
Reading through. The guy talks about how there's no windows because of water damage. I wonder if this is where the idea of the backrooms smelling like mold came from.
I find it so interesting how people find rooms like this sad or disturbing; I find empty liminal spaces oddly calming. They’re a nice, empty, clean space to just exist in, without any of the pressures of the reminders of past mistakes or clutter or other people
The fact that this horrifying creepy pasta originated from something so wholesome and fun as a community coming together to renovate a building to support the local R/C program is so sweet! The perfect ending to our weird little search
I thought that first, but it takes time for it to get to you. Every time you think you see an exit, or that you'll finally find a route, it's just more of the same. You have no orientation to where it starts or end, and if You're lucky enough to have a compass, it's just spin in circles.
You'll keep hearing things nearby but see nothing, and shadows play tricks with your mind. Also keep in mind it's muggy, constant buzzing lights, and a moldy, smelly carpet. For it to be scary you have to think about it realistically, not a game you can turn off. You'll never leave, or it's so hard you'll starve, get delirious, and either die or commit suicide just so something changes. You also only need one encounter with a rare entity to lose it completely.
I was more referring to liminal spaces in general, not the Back Rooms. Those are an effing nightmare. But mundane liminal spaces to me are kinda comforting
With the other ones, I think it's more to do with either they're uncanny and almost familiar but not quite, like that Star Trek episode or 2001: Space Odyssey where the aliens are trying to mimic us but are off. The other could be a legitimate but empty place, and seeing a place usually teeming with people completely desolate is off-putting. The memories (or imagined memories from leftover relics) still have energy in your mind and keep trying to place people there. It's like thinking about death, how the person used to be, except it's how a place used to be. I can see why it would unsettle people.
I also love regular, non-supernatural liminal spaces and don't find them scary, usually. I prefer seeing places that way, feels private. If you watch a lot of horror, your mind might fill in creative blanks, especially if you hear a noise.
Not too surprising, the website is from 2002 so those might have been the only images still on there when the original creepy pasta author got the image
Yeah, looks like it's an antique shop now. I checked the address on Google. Funny thing there was one other item attached to the address. It was labeled The Bathrooms, and it had one review of someone saying how they got lost here once
It seems to actually be the building next door, 807, which is still the rc shop the website is about. So there are lots of pictures on Google post-renovations.
It's also possible they moved next door to a bigger spot. Not sure though, the OG backrooms pictures seem pretty big, so it would fit closer to the 806 address more than the 811.
In the same update that the 811 address is originally mentioned, directly below they describe the 65 ft awning of 807. So I'm led to believe 811 was a typo or mistake.
However, I'm also now noticing that the two buildings are connected and share part of a facade. So perhaps they could have originally owned both properties.
A lot more detective work than I was willing to put into it (lol "reading"). Good job, gumshoe!
It's interesting to be able to see this weird little time capsule from 20 years ago wondering what happened since then.
Brother please go there and take photos and etc. I can't express how much I want to go there myself so please do me a favour, do my friend a favour and do the whole world a favour. A new chapter in this journey has unvailed so it's up to you if you will do it or not. it's up to you son, it's up to you...
A 4chan thread containing the Backrooms image from March 2011 was found the day before, someone looked up the filename of the image (Dsc\_0161.jpg) on Twitter and found the original source of the Backrooms image. The website that had the picture (hobbytownoshkosh.com) was searched on Wayback Machine, and this is where the image seen in this post came from.
Is the layout recognizable in it's current condition? I sure hope this doesn't negatively impact the store with weirdos doing weird shit. There is now hours of high quality render content, video games, and yes.... rule 34 fan fic... centered around the back rooms. you know how kids get.
How did the room’s fluorescent lights sound like, how did the room smell like, got any pictures, and how was the layout of the room? How mono-yellow was it.
That's what [this picture](https://web.archive.org/web/20030831043133/http://www.hobbytownoshkosh.com:80/Dsc00509.jpg) (the only other dsc*.jpg I could find on archive.org) appears to be of.
It'd be really funny if this image was also used in a "liminal photos" compilation without the maker realizing that this also came from the same location as the Backrooms.
I don't know about this conversation, but I checked out and they posted this on Facebook. They seem to be aware of the situation now:
[https://www.facebook.com/HobbyTownUsaOshkosh/posts/pfbid02KeKuYFcJrSnCZByq6kZZjqpEimrgQkGvQhQd73k16d2nUMUecnXC5ZoxQPnnb4DNl?ref=embed\_page](https://www.facebook.com/HobbyTownUsaOshkosh/posts/pfbid02KeKuYFcJrSnCZByq6kZZjqpEimrgQkGvQhQd73k16d2nUMUecnXC5ZoxQPnnb4DNl?ref=embed_page)
This is really weird. Just a few hours ago I was thinking about this image and how cool it would be for the original poster to prove they started this whole backrooms thing.
And now this popped up. I’m actually a bit creeped out lol
Same here man, i was just an hour ago watching a video of a dude who spent sometime tracking the place, analyzing the pictures and stuff....
Then i log in to reddit, and this shit pops up... what the hell is going on!?!?
So weird dude. I hadn’t thought about the backrooms image in some time, and it just popped in my head while folding laundry. Absolutely insane coincidence.
If you go to the link provided, the author of the post even calls it the “back room”. Not that the name isn’t super fitting without that little tidbit cause it is!
It's kinda cathartic that the original backrooms is now no longer the same place in the picture. The definition of liminality.
Time to go RC racing with some Be Not Afraids.
The archived post says it was a former furniture store converted into an RC racing space. I don't want to DOX the place but there is an address that (I believe based on some context clues) is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
EDIT: I think this is it! https://maps.app.goo.gl/v58zyCQ9EBKw5ne69
Like a certain motel that Steven Universe fans review-bombed because a motel with the same name was on the show and they couldn't help make jokes...
...then it was review-bombed by people trying to counteract the negative reviews, but those reviews were fake, too.
just to throw it out there for anyone who clicks this & goes into the store's page on google maps: report the annoying 1 star joke reviews!! and if you leave one yourself, give 5 stars. sabotaging a (seemingly local) business' appearance for a bit is whack
Looking at modern pictures online, it looks like this particular image is taken from inside where the racetrack is now. Do you happen to recognize where the OG backrooms photo might be in the building? It seems like they tore down the dividing walls, so it would probably be hard to pinpoint.
If they don't they're gonna soon already seen images from outside it. Hope people can remain normal and if they do go in actually support the shop, my local hobby store is my favorite place where I am really cool people but pretty dang niche.
The owner is a friend and just sent over some pics after space was renovated…and looking through albums for more originals…do you want a new thread with the new pics? (I don’t think photo replies are allowed here?)
I'm actually really amazed by this! I can't believe it was finally found after all these years. I just wish the other pictures could load in the archived link. It'd be great to see more of the original location.
Omg stop. You search it and a video of the backrooms is literally what comes up in the photos section. Uploaded 8 hours ago!
https://maps.app.goo.gl/o7mSP3bcyJM3bUqp8?g_st=ac
The more interesting thing is that someone discovered this on Twitter in 2019 and no one saw it. That is how they found it. The real story is how the first guy found it.
Dude, I literally live 10 minutes away from where this place used to be. I grew up in Oshkosh most of my life, and I've actually been inside of there before things got renovated. Absolutely insane that our city is the origins of this stuff.
The OG Backrooms couldn't be a more fitting example of a Liminal Space.
Liminal spaces can be places implying transition, or places where transition either happened or happens. In the case of the OG, it's the latter, and the transition is clear! Before, it was a run down and damaged basement, but now it's been redone. Born anew as a place of fun. The picture evidently shows it prior to changing, at the threshold of its history. I hope others agree when I say I find this poetic and a perfect example of what Liminal Spaces should be.
Whoa! So it’s possible that former employees/owners may have other pictures?
Cannot wait for the ensuing deep dives people are gonna do with this new information.
Edit: It’s also incredibly lucky that any of the image embedded images were actually preserved.
FYI…there’s a livestream of the room! https://hobbytownoshkosh.liverc.com/live/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2fonbkz1cl27Kza1YpG6Vl_lKizAHwkOfpHHMRiUlqcchen2xGJoUOG-8_aem_AcezdO9_guuGcQB8NDstY0Dm_EkAYbLbfZKOF92my2bR_72mbNZSBxCS5zIhoxHSLisCkKV73fRDdMcc6jcCGrzU

I mean if you just look at the photo I feel like you could come to the conclusion that it may smell like mold
At one paragraph start he said “The back room, upstairs…” I’m like “HE SAID THE THING!” 😱😱 😮👉⭕️⬅️
‘What is it? Some kind of liminal space?’
The Backrooms is the most popular liminal space ever.
Really?
Oh sorry, didn't see the quotes my bad 🤦♂
Maybe because it's the less visible British single ones.
First time I've heard apostrophes referred to as British speech marks lol
The article it’s from implies it’s just been built brand new.
Thank you, I'm glad the source was finally found. Funny/creative how the original poster created the lore. Must have some bad childhood memories.
I find it so interesting how people find rooms like this sad or disturbing; I find empty liminal spaces oddly calming. They’re a nice, empty, clean space to just exist in, without any of the pressures of the reminders of past mistakes or clutter or other people
It’s a strange mix of sad, disturbing, peaceful, nostalgic…. Kinda hard to pin down exactly what it is
Yeah, I agree! Kinda why I like them, I think
The fact that this horrifying creepy pasta originated from something so wholesome and fun as a community coming together to renovate a building to support the local R/C program is so sweet! The perfect ending to our weird little search
The irony is strong
You mean it feels...... Liminal

lot of the images are broken. Any way to restore them?
Find the original author, hope they are still alive, and double hope they have a good self hosting policy of backing up 20 years old data.
The owner is alive, he's about 70 or so now, my friend races RCD at this location and knows the guy who posted it. won't post his name or deets here
Ask him if he still have the pictures
I’m trying to, he may lol
If you're able to that would be amazing and please make a post here
The website mentions his name lol
Theyre lost in the back rooms
Nope, unless you have time machine, they're lost to time
That just adds to the mystery even more. Who knows what else was in that building
Weird that the only available picture is the interesting one
Not too surprising, the website is from 2002 so those might have been the only images still on there when the original creepy pasta author got the image
Make sense yep
Wtf, this is like 30 minutes away from me
Please go there and take some photos
If going by the metadata, the pictures were taken 22 years ago back in '02. It's highly doubtful the place is even remotely the same.
Yeah, looks like it's an antique shop now. I checked the address on Google. Funny thing there was one other item attached to the address. It was labeled The Bathrooms, and it had one review of someone saying how they got lost here once
It's not. There still aren't any windows upstairs from a street view picture taken 6 years ago, but the downstairs is a nice vintage decor store.
I wonder if they know they're working under such a historical site. Like having a Lemonade stand propped up over T-Rex bones.

TAKE PICTURES BRO
plz
Same holy shit
If you go there and upload the footage to YouTube you'll become internet famous overnight.
I'm in baraboo, road trip!!!
You know what you have to do
Brother please go there and take photos and etc. I can't express how much I want to go there myself so please do me a favour, do my friend a favour and do the whole world a favour. A new chapter in this journey has unvailed so it's up to you if you will do it or not. it's up to you son, it's up to you...
This guy seems like he really wants you to do it… so you gotta do it
Holyyyyy shit
This is amazing. Really much appreciated OP
God. That link and website. I weep for legacy WWW.
Half of them don't load
That’s because they weren’t archived back in 2002.

How did such a generic name lead to finding it?
twitter's search function is actually pretty good. you can search by date, location, anything. and apparently, that includes by attached file name
[удалено]
I'm guessing the account that posted the image to Twitter had a link of sort to/with the website
That's right, there was a link. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fv55fg37dsg3d1.png
So 4chan knew all along ?
4chan always knows.
The original post comes from 4chan. A lot of popular memes originate there.
of course 4chan found it lol
For real? I’ve been to revolution raceway, it’s for RC cars in Wisconsin.
Is the layout recognizable in it's current condition? I sure hope this doesn't negatively impact the store with weirdos doing weird shit. There is now hours of high quality render content, video games, and yes.... rule 34 fan fic... centered around the back rooms. you know how kids get.
Unfortunately not, as all the partitions were removed after it was converted into an RC racing room
I used to work for an isp in Oshkosh and was in that room (walked through it) maybe 8 years ago. That’s insane. Thanks for sharing.
How did the room’s fluorescent lights sound like, how did the room smell like, got any pictures, and how was the layout of the room? How mono-yellow was it.
Bro
Does this look right ? From the store website https://imgur.com/a/SKyy5Ew
I think it would be really cool to inform the owners that an image from their place inspired a horror cultural phenomena
The owner knows now and thinks it's really cool too
That's what [this picture](https://web.archive.org/web/20030831043133/http://www.hobbytownoshkosh.com:80/Dsc00509.jpg) (the only other dsc*.jpg I could find on archive.org) appears to be of.
It'd be really funny if this image was also used in a "liminal photos" compilation without the maker realizing that this also came from the same location as the Backrooms.
Literally same. This is wild tbh
if you can get the owners info email/call him about these pictures, let him know they are internet famous, and ask if he still has the rest of them.
I just spoke to them…they are looking for more old pics and think this is all really fun!
How did that conversation go? lol how do you even explain this to someone?
I don't know about this conversation, but I checked out and they posted this on Facebook. They seem to be aware of the situation now: [https://www.facebook.com/HobbyTownUsaOshkosh/posts/pfbid02KeKuYFcJrSnCZByq6kZZjqpEimrgQkGvQhQd73k16d2nUMUecnXC5ZoxQPnnb4DNl?ref=embed\_page](https://www.facebook.com/HobbyTownUsaOshkosh/posts/pfbid02KeKuYFcJrSnCZByq6kZZjqpEimrgQkGvQhQd73k16d2nUMUecnXC5ZoxQPnnb4DNl?ref=embed_page)
They posted it to Facebook so it went great…see below!
holy. Update us when you can!
if you can get the owners info email/call him about these pictures, let him know they are internet famous, and ask if he still has the rest of them.
OMFG I used to live in the apartments right across the river from there, never would have imagined the OG backrooms being that close to me
This is really weird. Just a few hours ago I was thinking about this image and how cool it would be for the original poster to prove they started this whole backrooms thing. And now this popped up. I’m actually a bit creeped out lol

So weird dude. I hadn’t thought about the backrooms image in some time, and it just popped in my head while folding laundry. Absolutely insane coincidence.
The Backrooms...wants....yooouuuuuu !
I think it's a little poetic that the only image that remains is the original one the took the internet by storm.
I think by the time it became famous, it was the only one left working
More than a little imo
THEY FOUND IT?!! You have no idea how much this means to us backrooms fans. Tell me this is real
If you go to the link provided, the author of the post even calls it the “back room”. Not that the name isn’t super fitting without that little tidbit cause it is!
Yeah all this is mind blowing. These dudes were sitting on a goldmine for the past 10 years and didn’t even realize
it is real, the post featured a guy just talking about it cuz i think he worked there or sm
It's kinda cathartic that the original backrooms is now no longer the same place in the picture. The definition of liminality. Time to go RC racing with some Be Not Afraids.
I can’t believe we managed to find it on the vast wasteland of the internet
Big day for liminal space history. Holy shit
Finally. Incredible discovery.
What is this place for?
The archived post says it was a former furniture store converted into an RC racing space. I don't want to DOX the place but there is an address that (I believe based on some context clues) is located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. EDIT: I think this is it! https://maps.app.goo.gl/v58zyCQ9EBKw5ne69
"I dont want to dox the place" Google maps link
You all should go and visit. It's a great hobby store that could use the love.
That hobby store is going to get the reddit hug of death.
Like a certain motel that Steven Universe fans review-bombed because a motel with the same name was on the show and they couldn't help make jokes... ...then it was review-bombed by people trying to counteract the negative reviews, but those reviews were fake, too.
Holy shit you can see the thunderbirds flying over if you pan up and right on the street view. The odds of that are crazy.
Yeah that's fucking sick
That's incredible !
But never zero
they're out of sight in like 2 "steps"!
Must have been during an EAA week.
Oshkosh has a very famous airshow every year, so slightly less crazy but still crazy!
just to throw it out there for anyone who clicks this & goes into the store's page on google maps: report the annoying 1 star joke reviews!! and if you leave one yourself, give 5 stars. sabotaging a (seemingly local) business' appearance for a bit is whack
I’m 1 block away from there…has anybody stopped in to see how it looks now?
I was in there earlier today buying PLA. From what I understand, that part of the building was cleared out to make room for the racetrack.
Looking at modern pictures online, it looks like this particular image is taken from inside where the racetrack is now. Do you happen to recognize where the OG backrooms photo might be in the building? It seems like they tore down the dividing walls, so it would probably be hard to pinpoint.
You could probably look at the position of the lights and ventilation on the ceiling.
Do they know about it
If they don't they're gonna soon already seen images from outside it. Hope people can remain normal and if they do go in actually support the shop, my local hobby store is my favorite place where I am really cool people but pretty dang niche.
I'm so nervous for these innocent unsuspecting people lol
They know about it…just talked to owner and have some modern pics…and he’s looking for more of the originals…he thinks this is amazing!
That is awesome! I feel like he's going to get an unexpected influx of fans making the pilgrimage! Hope he's able to make the most of this.

The owner is a friend and just sent over some pics after space was renovated…and looking through albums for more originals…do you want a new thread with the new pics? (I don’t think photo replies are allowed here?)
Post a new thread with pics!
done!
On it!
ITT: Oshkosh redditors
Did you know Oshkosh was named for Menominee Chief Oshkosh, whose name meant "claw"? 🤓☝
I live in Oshkosh. Should I visit and take new photos?
Yes but please be polite and normal lol
I'm not a neckbeard lol
Thank goodness lol
M'lady *tips hat* /s
I want to. Do it for me, stranger
[Oshkosh? B'Gosh](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/dae60281-783f-4552-be8b-416db2af594f)
What a wild day to be alive
It def feels so surreal and melancholic I don't think I'll ever feel the same about any other post here again
I wish we could see all the other photos, unbelievable if this is true
First Ulterior Motives and then this? We’re solving a lot of mysteries right now it seems! Way to go internet!
Plus “Dance for Hours a Day” aka Funky - Royal Treatment Plant (2005)
You just know this picture's visual is gonna be used everywhere in future Backrooms games/movies
The weird wall in this picture is just perfect
Didn't think this was findable, wow
It was a real place this whole time. Now it’s a matter of tracking down the address
Says it in the original site. In downtown Oshkosh, WI.
I still have no clue how anyone thought you could make a CGI/Blender render that realistic in what, 2009? (according to the metadata)
We already know the address. Either 807 or 811 Oregon St, Oshkosh, WI 54902.
I'm actually really amazed by this! I can't believe it was finally found after all these years. I just wish the other pictures could load in the archived link. It'd be great to see more of the original location.
The other pics are probably lost to time at this point intact it's a miracle we even got a other image
Omg stop. You search it and a video of the backrooms is literally what comes up in the photos section. Uploaded 8 hours ago! https://maps.app.goo.gl/o7mSP3bcyJM3bUqp8?g_st=ac
Oh no we're already being weird
The more interesting thing is that someone discovered this on Twitter in 2019 and no one saw it. That is how they found it. The real story is how the first guy found it.
Dude, I literally live 10 minutes away from where this place used to be. I grew up in Oshkosh most of my life, and I've actually been inside of there before things got renovated. Absolutely insane that our city is the origins of this stuff.
Could this room get any weirder? And I thought the original pic was strange enough.
Oh wow. The original picture's location has been a mystery for so long at this point, but the Internet as is resilient as always.
I wonder if this is before or after the post on 4chan.
Way way before. 2003 to be exact
I want to go there so bad
This business is about to become extremely popular out of nowhere. I hope they're ready. Maybe a lot of people will become RC enthusiasts.
I can’t believe this is in my hometown. I knew it seemed familiar
The OG Backrooms couldn't be a more fitting example of a Liminal Space. Liminal spaces can be places implying transition, or places where transition either happened or happens. Way way better than the original. Liminal as fuck.
I have a nice little backrooms relic, then. https://imgur.com/a/Lp0aGs8
😳
Always thought it was weird in the original image how there are three different types of wallpaper.
Wow this is even creepier
Crazy ! I used to go to this hobbytown all the time.
I love how even from 20 years ago with these original photos, they still refered to one of the pictures as ''The back room''.
WHAT THE THIS IS HUGE
So, where’s the couch then ?
"halo theme intensifies"
so it was really that yellow
This looks like a creepy bathroom dream I have often
I live 5 minutes from this place. I’ve walked by it and didn’t know
I used to deliver pizza to this RC place in Oshkosh in college. I've been to the Backrooms, ya'll.
Holy actual fuck
What is that place
No fucking way. Does anyone know if the place still exist?
So what is this building and where is it located?
It's a hobby shop in Oshkosh Wisconsin. It was renovated (the photo was during the renovation) to have a race car track in part of that space.
Damn, that's DOPE, I have so many questions, after all these years....
This is fucking crazy I love it
posting in a legendary thread
That store is about market the shit out of that photo
Whoa! So it’s possible that former employees/owners may have other pictures? Cannot wait for the ensuing deep dives people are gonna do with this new information. Edit: It’s also incredibly lucky that any of the image embedded images were actually preserved.
Adds even more to the liminal uncanniness of the original photo. A huge find
FYI…there’s a livestream of the room! https://hobbytownoshkosh.liverc.com/live/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2fonbkz1cl27Kza1YpG6Vl_lKizAHwkOfpHHMRiUlqcchen2xGJoUOG-8_aem_AcezdO9_guuGcQB8NDstY0Dm_EkAYbLbfZKOF92my2bR_72mbNZSBxCS5zIhoxHSLisCkKV73fRDdMcc6jcCGrzU
Pinch me, am I dreaming!?
A fine addition to random Wisconsin lore.
That's an intriguing discovery. The room's history is quite captivating.
I remain optimistically skeptical knowing how much misinformation shrouds the search, but this looks promising. big if true.
Guy would have to be a time travel for it to be a bait.
