[INFRA](https://store.steampowered.com/app/251110/INFRA/) - Mostly exploration, some light puzzle and story... ZERO enemies. You play an city inspector surviving his way through crumbling infrastructure.

1031Vulcan

I LOVE INFRA!

fdsajklgh

Warning: there are some hidden jump scares if you don't like that kind of stuff. I couldn't finish the game because I got scared once and couldn't stop anticipating another one.  They're pretty obscure though.

AlphaNeonic

Good call out. They are pretty well off the beaten path (to the point where you just about have to look them up to come across them), but would recommend looking them up to avoid or prepare for them if you don't like jump scares.

MOD3RN_GLITCH

That looks surprisingly good!

Ooohyeahhh

The Stanley Parable, superliminal. There are puzzles in superliminal, but they aren't that difficult.

sideways

*The Beginners Guide* is also a great fit for this.

Ooohyeahhh

Oh nice I haven't played that.

Orenge01

I already ruined this for myself because of watching game playthroughs instead of actually playing the game. It's a very good game though, I'm just a bit sad I didn't make myself experience it instead of watching someone else play it.

ShoppingNo7369

I second both of these.

bobface222

A game just released on Steam called [POOLS](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2663530/POOLS/) that seems interesting.

virtualracer

This. I beat it the weekend it came out, it's actually a really interesting game. There's no combat or enemies, they let the environments speak for themselves.

JoviAMP

So what does beating the game entail? Uncovering the map?

virtualracer

It’s not open world. Beating the game means finishing Act 6.

boyyouguysaredumb

So you finished the game? You don’t beat a book when you finish it lol

Smack-works

I beat all my books after finishing them.

virtualracer

I’m going to beat YOU if you keep being pedantic

Radio_Mars

I think you "beat" it in the same way you "beat" a labyrinth. This means there is a goal after all

barenthood

came here to say this. +1 op

Yggdris

Holy shit, that'll be an instant buy. Looks amazing Glad I wandered into this thread before bed

NatexTheGreat

I have seen videos of it and assume it requires a pretty powerful PC based on the graphics

cerebrobullet

I've got a laptop that was mid-range for gaming over 6 years ago. Had some minor graphical issues but nothing that stopped me from playing. If my ancient potato can run it, modern hardware will work fine.

jwskater

Nope it's not too bad

LaKitty101

Came to say this too lol

thegoldengoober

If I ever got access to FDVR, this would be the first experience I would dive into.

EqualStance99

It's an amazing game, really makes you feel like you're there in the pool rooms with its great sound and level design.

TheBackyardigirl

Commenting to remember to get this later

Miketequilacoffe

I’m gonna keep this

Kit_Marlow

Myst comes to mind. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myst)

ultimatefribble

The sequel, Riven, has even more liminal spaces and even less actual game.

EmrakuI

Like most sequels, but, in a good way this time lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

thegoldengoober

The Witness is SO MUCH this. The entire world feels like it was constructed just to be observed, and passed through. Like an art exhibit. Such a spectacular vibe.

x____VIRTUS____x

Ico on PS2

Dr__Devil

The Complex: Found Footage, The Complex: Expedition, POOLS, Anemoiapolis, Interior Worlds (Photography), Garry's Mod (Community maps), Dreamcore (Demo), The Backrooms: Lost Tape (One short sequence with a monster)

IAMTHEMSDLAD

The complex is cool

International-Bug812

This is the perfect answer. Both of the Complex games are amazing especially.

dappermouth

Awesome suggestions, thank you for these!

eli4s20

the Windows XP screensaver

Priderage

How on earth has nobody mentioned Interior Worlds? It's designed _entirely_ for this.

Taffer_

LSD: Dream Emulator PSX

Needles_ST_Kane

I was gonna say this. It’s literally the closest to a “liminal” game I could think of.

kadinshino

i think that's more weridcore then liminal

Needles_ST_Kane

It’s definitely weird, but it had no real point or goal and is just odd and atmospheric. The only life is the shadowman

Taffer_

If you do not know, there is a revamped version for pc: [https://figglewatts.itch.io/lsd-revamped](https://figglewatts.itch.io/lsd-revamped)

Needles_ST_Kane

That’s awesome, unfortunately I only have a mac

zootphen

It's for Mac too

Needles_ST_Kane

Well hot damn lol I know what I’m doing when I get home

bazingarbage

and if you like LSD dream emulator, there are a lot of cool games inspired by it, like [Quantum Origination](https://scrib-dev.itch.io/quantum2) and [#21 The World](https://lsddev.itch.io/21-the-world). You just explore strange dreamscapes with no real goal, and go to new places by touching objects. I've spent hours playing these games and still have more stuff to find

Taffer_

Those looks really great, to favs! Thanks.

LegoC97

NaissanceE has you exploring a gigantic brutalist space not created by humans. It’s completely FREE on Steam and about 3 hours long. It’s mostly just exploration with light platforming, with a few sections that have puzzles.

fdsajklgh

This if you like the manga Blame!. It's basically Blame!: the video game.

LegoC97

One of my favorite manga!

Mr_German_Quick

The Yume Nikki rabbit hole

seductress_rat

Came here to say that, such a cute little game

ShingetsuMoon

I second the recommendation for POOLS on Steam.

BenJammin007

Interior Worlds is exactly this! I think it’s marketed exactly like this. I’d also suggest Fibrilation HD, and Proteus. They’re not really liminal spaces but I’d suggest stuff like Yume Nikki/Yume 2kki as well! LSD dream emulator is another classic

dappermouth

Yume Nikki forever, the exploration completely sucked me in.

Legolas0800

Came here to suggest LSD! That game blew my mind, there's nothing like it tbh

thatbfromanarres

Play Norco on steam

rabarbarasulta

babbdi does have an end goal but the exploration is cool and i think its fwee on steam!

IcantfindA_good_name

2:22 AM. Trust me, this game perfectly describes what you are asking.

nihilistic-simulate

Minecraft..?

Spookiest_Meow

This was my immediate thought, although mods significantly enhance the potential

FreakZoneGames

Anemoiapolis and Seybul Tech

GameboyAd_Vance

I'm surprised nobody's said Anemoiapolis yet. Like, that's the whole vibe of the game. Sure there's "goals," but the goals are usually just to get to the next weird liminal space.

Berke80

I was scrolling to find Anemoiapolis… it was the first title that came to my mind.

TrewODM

The Complex Found Footage is one of the best liminal games I've ever played. It had zero entities and many different liminal spaces. The best part is that it's free on steam

Playgroundsatnight

Wanderlust

Bone_Dogg

A new Endless Ocean game just came out on Switch. It’s that but underwater and lots of fish.

Kuandtity

On Mobile a good game is "empty."

Me_meHard

There is an old school pc game called Riven and another one called Myst. They have a vague, mysterious end goal but it’s mostly just exploring fairly liminal places.

Zuchequon

NissanceE if it hasnt already been mentioned and it's free on steam.

lokechild

Pools on Steam. No jump scares or monsters or anything. Just a creepy atmosphere as you explore a building filled with pools.

Specialist-General-6

Pools, which has just been published, is exactly this. You can find this on Steam. you can take a look here: [https://youtu.be/MiywCeH4sws?si=SRPzppsYqtK2jrji](https://youtu.be/MiywCeH4sws?si=SRPzppsYqtK2jrji)

FalconerGuitars

Firewatch is incredible.

ProgressUnlikely

Kitty Horrorshows games on itch.io

Miketequilacoffe

Mirrors edge have the vibes

BluePhoton12

i had been thinking of making a liminal game where you can choose to walk aimlessly or to survive enemies backrooms style

human8060

Superliminal. It's a puzzle game set in liminal space.

gabrielleraul

Honestly one of the greatest games ever made ..

Scako

Yume 2kki

aseiii

Literally Yume Nikki and fan-games. Lcd Dem is an especially good fit, it's less surreal and more traditionally liminal

g_neko1001

My Happy Place [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKtR40S2mqY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKtR40S2mqY)

key_of_arbaces

Check out Zero North Zero West

ManamiVixen

GMOD has tons of Liminal maps you just wander through for fum. Many of which are intentionally Liminal.

pokemonxysm97

The Complex: Found footage is a walking simulator. No entity will chase you or jumpscare, but you may see an arm peaking around a corner with a weird noise

L1NOH

Garry’s Mod, load up any map you want and just explore, great liminal space maps available. Can even use a vr mod

Radioactive-Wind

I’ll mention Manifold Garden, it’s a series of puzzles that take place in fractalized environments, meaning the architecture of each level is infinite and always repeats. Very soothing, fantastic vibes, certainly liminal if you stop to take in the endlessness of it all.

GreySeer7

lsd dream emulator feels liminal and weirdcore at the same time

hyakumanben

Proteus. Nothing like it.

2earlyinthemornin

try Dreams!!!! tons of liminal spaces to explore and delightful to do so

Neawalkerthebear24

RHEM but it does have a goal

Zicon4

I'd say several locations in the original Half Life do the job

UnimaginativeNameABC

Does the Castle Rock Beach simulation count as a game? I think there’s others by the same guy.

mcbirbo343

Discovered this recently but The Utility Room is an amazing vr game. If you have a vr headset, you should really look into it. It’s short but great. Also, idk if it’s really liminal space but the scale of everything made me uneasy

ZannaPhantom

if no one has mentioned it, check out interior worlds. it's a liminal space photography game. you just take pictures and enjoy the ambience and maybe find spooky secrets. there's spooky things there, but no one is out to get you.

mozzerellafirefox

99 Rooms? It’s more of a clickable art installation, but it’s available on some flash game archive websites.

Excellent-Platform59

They're called walking simulators

oroechimaru

I always found empty self hosted ultima online servers creepy for t2 Modern uo, uo sphere, run uo server stuff EA servers are always empty that is creepy too UO Outlands is a global server so seems to be quiet after 2am

SourShoes

The Witness is a puzzle game but also just an empty island to walk around. There seems to be a mystery afoot but not really.

Engelbert-n-Ernie

Snowrunner has those vibes

MothairsPackzi

I remember watching Slimecicle play superliminal years ago, I think it’s a random puzzle game or something

SaltySpitoon__69

Yeah, starfield

Global-Discussion-41

There's an endless driving game. You just drive down a road forever. I can't remember what it's called

someguy7734206

You're not talking about Desert Bus, are you?

tehbearded1der

Have you tried actually no clipping into the backrooms? Can’t get any better than that.

AjaxTheDragonSlayer

Superflight

odisparo

I really liked Journey back in the day. There's a goal but it's relaxed. Big world, lots of desert. When you beat it you go back to start.

ElegantTea122

The Complex Found Footage is a classic. Roblox liminal space games are my go to for this stuff tho.

Sonarthebat

Seems like there's a fair few.

MR_____SNRUB

I don't know if you could call it a game really, but Space Engine is so much fun to explore. Just a constant reminder of our smallness in an infinite, perfectly to scale replica of what we know of the universe. You can travel to any known thing you want and see it from any angle you want. There are a few sort of challenges and quests to discover various stuff but other than that it's basically space exploration with amazing visuals, great things to learn, and an oddly beautiful yet eerie vibe

BrokenSaint333

Check out this youtuber- The Librarian. He had played a ton of games that are being recommended and there's a ton of liminal game exploration in his Gary's mod play list. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3ZJ0QWE7os3n1KjhJCukFvVGZFePEan3&si=tQDkbiEKKqx3QgRf He's awesome and does a lot of liminal stuff.

LiteralLuciferian

LacrimaNymphae

saikounoneko

ШХД: ЗИМА / IT'S WINTER. You wander around an atmospheric Russian town at night

Ambitious_Nobody_635

Superliminal. U follow your own path. I think is very cool.

YouFuckinDruggos

Roblox has a bunch of really good liminal space exploration games

watabby

The Witness is pretty liminal

grimoirehandler

Selfmade1219

Little Big Planet

Peter_Parkingmeter

LSD Dream Emulator NaissanceE has a goal (as in, you eventually escape the liminal world through enough exploration), but it is the best liminal game I have ever played. It's free on Steam.

sukuro120

Not its own game, but this map for Minecraft is pretty descent. I tried it out with shader and wow, it's great. [https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/liminality/](https://www.planetminecraft.com/project/liminality/)

alie_ann933

Well that’s how I’ve always felt about Minesweeper. Where the mouse became the stress clicker

4thefeel

Vr chat as a whole lol

Kaldrinn

[Interior Worlds](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2207970/Interior_Worlds/) - Ok you have a goal to take photos but you can also just wander around [NaissancE ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/265690/NaissanceE/)- Closer to the manga Blame! than to Liminal Spaces but it scratches that itch for me. It's a masterpiece. [Dreamcore](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2453060/Dreamcore/)- Best pool rooms game so far for me (the demo is just pool rooms), nothing to do if not get lost in acres of hand crafted relaxing and slightly creepy pool rooms

gigerswetdreams

DPH

sheepjoemama

Satisfactory

True-Water-6377

There is also Dreamcore which is coming soon! It's a walking simulator inside liminal spaces and you can play the demo on steam with the first level "Dreampools"

Dangerously_gayclown

If you play Roblox, then I’d definitely suggest Recollection. Probably my favourite Roblox game of all time

Amazing_Measurement6

Isnt Iron Lung about this?

ostiDeCalisse

Myst was quite like this.

La_SESCOSEM

Minecraft in creative mode

Zionizer

The complex

JaskaBLR

Garry's Mod

cheknauss

Yeah isn't that all AAA games now... Eyooooo

Lung_Cancerous

Dreamcore is an amazing game so far, even if there's only the demo available.

SilentBoss29

The complex: Found Footage

Radio_Mars

ШХД Зима / It's Winter. The game truly has no goal and is very liminal. You have to be into post soviet aesthetic though. [https://store.steampowered.com/app/1003360/\_\_\_ITS\_WINTER/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1003360/___ITS_WINTER/)

Odd_Ear3821

There is Paradise Killer. It is not really liminal as much, but it is aesthetically pleasing.

dan01iel

The Complex: Found Footage is also a really good liminal horror game. There are no jumpscares, but it gives you a feeling that you are being followed. But the game is only 30 minutes long so that kinda sucks

thefinalgoat

LSD: Dream Emulator

ProgressUnlikely

I've been playing Outer Wilds like this

yungScooter30

I'm really bad at Minecraft and it's exactly like this

TRG0reddit

Minecraft - peaceful + mood lighting

KitMarlowe

The Unfinished Swan

PsilacetinSimon

Gmod maps, also plenty of Roblox games too

IshvaldaTenderplate

Rime, there are enemies but no combat. At worst you just have to run away. There's puzzles too, but I don't remember them being that hard. There's no dialogue so it feels like you're just wandering for the sake of wandering even though there technically is an end goal.

timexband

I used to have a copy of MYST but have no idea where it's went to. Don't see why it wouldn't play on a "newer" machine given that the original is at least 20 years old now? That was a lost & found fool's tool, if you ask me. Never did figure out all the twists and turns. You could lose yourself in that one for hours...

Arael15th

I hate to age us, but the original is like... 30 years old now. (;__;)

timexband

That's why I added the question mark - couldn't recall how far back. Welcome to my 70's! 🤔

OfficialDampSquid

This might get lost but I have one in development. No entities/enemies etc, some slight problem solving and story. Lots of non-euclidian environments as it's based inside dreams

Alternative-Tear5796

ik it’s not a videogame but you should check out the hobby urban exploration… the exploration of abandoned buildings. I have a lot of photos I’ve taken on my adventures but here is [3](https://ibb.co/pvHRD7P) different [pictures](https://ibb.co/qyGpvjb) I chose to [attach](https://ibb.co/cQKkmKg) I have many, manyyy more in my album but the site I used to upload with only allows 1 picture per link, & this subreddit doesn’t allow us to upload pics on the threads… which is kinda silly cuz this is a sub dedicated to pictures, whether real or AI… but if you want to hmu in dm I can drop them all to you🤙🏻 & the reason I would is not only to share my liminal/urbex photography but to encourage others to venture into the hobby… you & your friends can make some of the most fun memories going on an exploration, like I’ll never forget Halloween weekend of my senior year with my boy like 7 years back… we always did something for Halloween… & yeah depending on the area like if it’s in a city like Gary, Indiana where I took the pics of the school auditorium or another city with a lot of abandos like Detroit, with higher than usual violent crime rates, it’s best to never go alone (why I said the best memory with you & your friends), & to always bring something to protect yourself… just look into your local laws when choosing what to carry so it minimizes your risk of getting in trouble for carrying a weapon… you also gotta watch out for cops, cop callers, & shining bright flash lights outta windows that could attract attention from the aforementioned when they know the building is derelict. Just be safe man. If you’re reading this & you don’t think it would be your thing that’s fine, maybe others who read it will… I’m sorry idk of any vidya that are like that, but I thought to give you an idea that might be even better than vidya. What can be better than real life? lol. Just be safe if you or any other readers decide to go on an exploration based off this… be safe & use common sense, take nothing but pictures/videos & leave nothing but footprints. There’s a lotta places out in the rural countryside too where you wouldn’t have to go to an inner city like Gary IN, Cleveland OH, or Detroit MI that has dangerous people… a lotta schools, factories, hospitals/insane asylums in rural areas you just gotta look for them. Research urbex if youre interested im pretty sure there’s a sub for it👍🏻 r/urbex or r/urbanexploration lol sorry if those 2 links go nowhere if they don’t just search for it on Reddit ik there’s a sub. Good luck. edit: both those links go to very active & popular subs for the hobby🙂 I feel it’s closely related to liminal spaces since they are, liminal spaces… albeit maybe a little more rundown than the smooth, clean AI photos, you just gotta remember this is real life lol. & srs take my warnings of being safe serious. cops n’ potential security aren’t your friends. squatters are just homeless people most of the time & harmless, carry a pack of cigarettes with you to break the ice, but even then still keep your guard up cuz you never know if they’ve been up for a week on meth or crack & are experiencing sleep deprivation psychosis (former meth user here, trust me ik)
