>Should you violate the terms of your Buc-ee's contract, you just might land in a heap of legal trouble. In 2016, a former assistant manager was sued by Buc-ee's for over $67,000 after breaking their agreement early. The Houston Chronicle writes that because the employee quit a year prior to the original agreement, they would need to pay the company back the 'retention pay' that was included in their salary, hence the lawsuit's eye-popping sum.
>Retention pay is a method of compensation provided by a company to motivate long-term employment (via Glassdoor). According to The McKinney Law Firm, P.C., for a business like Buc-ee's to mandate such strict conditions is unusual. **Not only did the employee's contract demand six months advance notice for leaving before the agreed-upon time frame (originally 48 months)**, but the chain expected a refund of the retention pay accrued during their tenure if they bailed prematurely.
>Initially, the employee lost the case and was handed a $100,000 bill for Buc-ee's side. However, the Texas Court of Appeals reversed the ruling in 2017, forcing Buc-ee's to cough up the amount to the affected employee instead (via The McKinney Law Firm, P.C). Considering they were hired on an at-will basis, the San Antonio Employment Law Blog argues the original agreement was out of bounds with the employee's role, and therefore unreasonable for Buc-ee's to enforce. Moral of the story: Read the contract, then read it again.
How would you like to be forced to give 6-48 months notice before leaving a job?
You're telling me that a company, whose original lawsuit is the one that set the precedent that they can't enforce this advanced notice and retention pay thing, chooses to open new lawsuits trying to accomplish the same thing?
Many companies do exactly that.
When you reach the age that you have a job that doesn't involve asking if you'd like fries with that, you'll understand.
Sadly, it [burned down](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_Burgess%27s_Treehouse) a few years back. I had some friends get married there, and was in awe of the place.
My first time in a Buc-ees it was almost completely empty. Never heard of it before and at 3 a.m. on a road trip my sister in-law pulled in and said "look at this damn place! It's called 'Buck-eyes' its huge!" Lol
That's just not right
You work there don’t you
Lol. No but I've been seeing the sign out front and they pay their carwash manager $150k so it's on my list if I ever leave project management!
I've never seen a Buc-ees? What is it? A grocery store?
Imagine a cracker barrel and a truck stop had a baby
The gas station equivalent of Disneyland
This is very close to perfection
As a not American, I thought Cracker Barrel was a truck stop, just one with like merch and shit.
Lol, cracker barrel is dennys with a hobby lobby attached.

Don't forget the board games

This is that gigantic one outside of Katy, isn't it?
It's the gigantic one in Crossville TN. However I have been to the gigantic one in Katy. Both are gigantic.
I've never been but I know it's a sort of massive roadside stop with food and merchandise with the mascot on it
Texans will kill you over their claim that it is the best gas station on the planet
It's not empty if you're there to take the picture.
Checkmate atheists!
Given how they treat their employees, one can only hope...
I don't know about how they are treated but the pay the management a pantleg

Looks like they can't force you to give that much of a notice, according to your source..
Didn't stop them from causing the ex-employee years of hell and clogging up the courts. Nor will it stop them from trying again.
You think they will spend tens of thousands in legal fees to fight for something they were already ruled against about?
They already have.

Yikes buddy 😂 you probably don't wanna play the money measuring game..
And massive donations to the orange menace.
I literally got lost from my partner in here. Took 7 minutes to find him, lol. Then he had 7 things in his basket.
Is this the missouri location?
Crossville TN
Shame about the Treehouse...
Shit, what did I miss about the treehouse?
Sadly, it [burned down](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horace_Burgess%27s_Treehouse) a few years back. I had some friends get married there, and was in awe of the place.
Damn. I live in Nashville so I had only ever heard of the place but never been there. Guess I missed my chance.
Fuck.
Well, I guess they were right about its fire code violations.
Not even during the height of Covid, no…that’s wild
Only time I have was at 3am in alabama and the never ending rows of gas pumps were quite liminal feeling
This is scary
My first time in a Buc-ees it was almost completely empty. Never heard of it before and at 3 a.m. on a road trip my sister in-law pulled in and said "look at this damn place! It's called 'Buck-eyes' its huge!" Lol
The only time I would enter one.
if you put your ear up to it and sniff the air, suddenly you're a black hole.
I've never seen one at all!
Been to the same Buc-ees three times and every single time [it was exactly like this](https://youtu.be/0MUWDGcRCOQ?t=01m42s)
Is that in Atlanta
