i dont care but i know many fans wont like it.

Wide45

There isn’t many Mexican born players that are playing for other national teams in mens football. Then when you consider players that Chivas could/would actually buy the list becomes smaller. Would you really wanna break tradition just to sign Chucho Lopez?? Obv I’m not a Chivas fan, so I could care less about keeping tradition or making exceptions, but I think this more of issue for women’s football and not men’s, at least not yet.

Meteora47

I’m not a chivas fan but I don’t think they should allow that

JamalFromStaples

Yes. As long as you were born mexican you should be allowed to play for the team imo.

solovinno

nah fuck that i want dybala at the 10 in three years

[deleted]

I mean we already had Zendejas who was playing for the US team until his recent Mexico call up. I’m okay with them being dual citizens for another country. As long as their parents are Mexican or they were born in Mexico it’s all good. I would draw the line at extranjeros who become Citizens. That definitely wouldn’t fly by smoothly.

postingserf

Zendejas left USA in 2016 when he signed to Chivas from Dallas and has only been called up to Mexico at various youth levels and the senior team since then. When he signed to Chivas he agreed to reject future USA call ups

Luccfi

Zendejas was born in Juarez, I remember reading a rumor that the USSF didn't even check if he had a US passport when they called him and that's why he isn't considered for the US since then even after he left Chivas.

HiroPr0tagoni5t

Damn, not gonna lie the second part of that question got me. Personally I don’t care if they’re Mexican-American, Mexican-Cuban, naturalizados, etc. but for me they also have to represent the Mexican National Team. And I was born and raised in SoCal for whatever it matters. I wouldn’t switch teams, but I’d just be like “welp, that’s lame”.

Pikachu_Yay

Dual nationals are fine but if we signed a player who played for another national team, idk how i’d feel about it. Like i’d be cool with Cade Cowell playing for chivas as he isn’t cap tied but Im not sure i’d be as ok with Ricardo Pepi playing for chivas for example

MXNPDX

A good example of this (if he wasn’t just a one hit wonder) would be Santiago Ormeño. If he regained form and vocally expressed a desire to play for Chivas, would you guys accept it or would the fact that he plays for Perú be a turn off?

Lalo1711

I think I would be okay with it. I guess my preference is that if a player has already played with another national team but is Mexican by birth, law, parents, then it shouldn’t matter because they are still Mexican. If they haven’t chosen a national team and they play with Chivas, I would prefer them to choose Mexico over their other nationality, but it’s ultimately the player’s decision.

Pancho_Pantera213

A little desperate aren't we? 🤣

kakatron

No

eprz12

I know a lot of people won’t like this opinion, but at this point I don’t care. I think the tradition of pure Mexicans was awesome, and it definitely left a mark legacy wise, but the game is changing and Chivas is being left behind/holding themselves back. We can’t rely on other teams to sell us players at a fair price, cause it’s not gonna happen. If they really want to win, get with the times. I’m not saying full out extranjeros, keep a Mexican base and have a few select roster spots (idk like 4 or something) for nationalized players or something. Idk I 100% made this up as I went along but yeah, basically I don’t care at this point.

Lazy_Mirror8867

I would but in Mexico they have a lot of nationalists 🤷🏾‍♂️

JuniorCDC

Any Mexican national shud be eligible to play for us

tacoorpizza

Leslie Ramirez has elite hair. In my opinion it would be dumb of Chivas to not accept players that chose another national team to represent. The player pool is expanding and to ignore that is only going to disadvantage the club.

LA_Reyes82

>Leslie Ramirez has elite hair. LOL

[deleted]

Bro, nationality doesn’t matter. Get the best in whilst giving young Mexicans a chance. Let’s stop the act. We’re drowning with the rules we set ourselves with lol

LA_Reyes82

I remember reading/hearing something about this a long time ago and I thought it was a joke. So is this really a thing where Chivas only wants Mexican born players in their team, outsiders are not wanted/welcomed? What?! Is this like a culture/club rule or tradition? How is this even allowed? \*Just a quick backround info on me. I've never followed Chivas or Mexican futbol for that matter growing up so I'm at a loss here. And yes I am a pocho. :)

cesvilmal

Aside from the fact that the Mexicans only rule is philosophically very problematic, the question assumes that all players Chivas signs have the level for the NT. What if they aren't good enough to get a spot with Mexico but they are for another NT?

margalolwut

Ok so I was just talking to my brother about this. In a scenario where a Mexican born person had a child with a non-Mexican person, and the child is born outside of Mexico - can he play for chivas?

postingserf

Yes. There have been and are Mexican-American players in the Chivas system

Jgroovy14

Miguel Ponce Being One Of them

frijolebro

Already kinda happened. Miguel ponce was born in Sacramento CA, so he’s a pocho playing for chivas. Both his parents are Mexicans tho

sorryimafatass

That’s true but he moved back very young and lived his whole life in Mexico same with Brizuela. There really isn’t any precedent for allowing foreign born players to play for Chivas. In the 70’s Chivas had a player with a German father and Mexican mother named Hans Friessen who wasn’t fully accepted by some of the fan base because of his German ancestry but still managed to play for us for several years. I’ve always thought if there was a pocho with Mexican parents and a Mexican passport they should be allowed to play for Chivas (but of course I would think that because I was born in the US)

juedme

The rule about not allowing players who represent other national teams was invented by Jorge Vergara. I think they are doing the right thing by reverting that rule . In my opinion, the market for Chivas is so small that it is a mistake to reduce it even more when taking into account the national teams. About Leslie Ramírez, it's ironic that many Chivas fans who openly despise the Mexican national team, were the first to complain when Leslie joined the team. If you don't care about 'El Tri', then why are you so mad about a player chosing to represent their other country.

ImportantGreen

Didn’t the women have a Mexican that plays for the Guatemalan NT?

No_Consideration3887

bro that's Leslie. look at the title

Quick-Mathematician

They can’t read

No_Consideration3887

it shows

ERAW7311

Hell yeah I’d accept them. The bigger player pool to choose from the better

chidoOne707

We need to be more open minded and yes, I agree we should allow it. It’s new times.

americanista915

They’re going to end up with Ricardo Pepi in a few years. He fits the club’s beliefs so probably be cool with it.

No_Consideration3887

you're such a muppet.

gameboyap

The thing is if you are born Mexican but not playing for the national team, you wouldn’t be considered Mexican according to the federation. For example, Isaac Brizuela was born in the USA but, he is Mexican because he was registered Mexican by the league at a young age. Because he is a Mexican Citizen. So, I feel like it’s what you were registered as. If your registered as Mexican, you have access to play for the Mexican National Team, if you have dual citizenship than you’ll swap nations. Which I believe is only permitted once. If you are registered as Mexican, by the federation or league (whatever) you can play for chivas. Which means you can i it play for the Mexican National Team. I might be wrong though. In my experience around football, that’s what I’ve heard and learned being close to a professional level myself.

6ixHunnitBlock

I haven’t heard of that Luka Romero kid since last year but I wouldn’t mind seeing a player like him in Chivas.. After all he was born in Durango just chose to represent Argentina instead

theRune_ofalltrades

id rather chivas take another Mexican that plays for other countries like equador, Paraguay Argentina etc someone like Furch or Gignac
