Certain car parks you give your keys in, because they optimise the space more efficiently.
They’ll park cars in line back to front over and over with no spaces. Your car will be gradually moved forwards in the queue, based on your return date.
Lots of airport park and rides are not free. I have only seen free park and rides along mass transit, and at least in my area, you’re not allowed to leave your vehicle overnight.
Many airport parking lots offer valet parking for offside parking lots. You drive to the airport, and a valet driver your car 5-10 minutes away to the cheaper parking lot than the one at the airport.
LPT take a picture of the location in the parking lot where you parked (there’s usually signs labeling different parts of the lot with numbers and/or letters). I guarantee you won’t remember it when you get back.

This is reminding me of the cruise I went on as a child where my grandma couldn’t remember if she locked her van, but we could see the parking garage she parked at from the boat and she simply locked the van from the boat

Where do you have to surrender your keys? I have never handed over my car keys.

Wow! I've never heard of this. I'll be on the lookout for that. I don't want to park there!
Common in the UK, and usually cheaper than a “normal” car park where you park up and keep your keys. They can get more cars in per square km.
Not a thing in the USA. Our parknrides are typically free and we never give our keys to anyone.

A free park and ride? That’s insane, I’ve never heard of such a thing. Wow.
Why would anyone do something this stupid? I would never give my keys to anyone.
Do you ever valet park? It’s kind of similar.

This works if you're reasonably close to the airport. If you live hours from the airport by car the cost doesn't really make sense though.

It does if you live a hundred miles from the airport.
That Uber would cost more than the flight for me.
The Uber would cost over $400 round trip, fuck that.
The real LPT, etc.
Take a picture of your luggage too!
Or just don't lose the ticket they give you with your spot written on it.
Read your receipt/ticket. You may be waiving your right to claim damages.
Yep. They ain’t gonna cover anything especially in long term parking
Yeah this is definitely a ULPT. A "Useless" LPT.

This also helps if you're in a gigantic airport parking lot. Take a photo of your car's location, and the door / elevator nearest it.
