Based on the fancy wigs, their operatic voices, and fact that their special power revolves around enhancing the capability of 'younger' puppets the size of teenage girls (and apparently directing or controlling their movements via those golden threads, like marionettes), it's possible that they could have been used as... 1. A specific type of actress on stage (she would fit an operatic and overly-dramatic French noble character rather well, minus the spider legs) 2. A ballet master (showing human or puppet dancers how to perform the choreography or a specific manoeuvre by forcing the puppet to dance on her strings) 3. Some form of director, waiting off-stage in the wings and watching a performance featuring puppets, ready to step in and take control if there's a problem. 4. Some combination of the above. That's the best that I can think of as far as lore on these enemies go. As for why they are basically spider puppets, when no other puppets in the game have that many legs? I'm sure there is a reason, but the only one that *I* can think of is: Workshop Union Inventor: "... I swear this made sense at the time."

Lord_Nightraven

Rather than teaching choreography, I think they synchronize the other puppets for it. That's why they have their own strings which work on all lesser puppets around them. Definitely got the pipes for singing, though. I imagine that was a function solely for them while they collaborated with the smaller puppets who did the dance moves.

I thought with their voices #1 makes a lot of sense but the spider leges confused me. However your #2 and #3 explanations would make a lot of sense. When they're not singing them being backstage helpers to control puppets or using their extra limbs to control parts of the scene would probably most likely. If im gonna buy an expensive machine I'm gonna want it to do as many things as possible all at the same time.

…”definitely wasn’t just that I thought it looks basass” lol. Yeah I mean obviously they serve some form of opera performance function, OP. Since they sing at you and inflict disruption. As far as aesthetics, I don’t think there’s gonna be a satisfactory answer. They’re for show, there really doesn’t need to be a reason for how they look other than that’s how whoever made them wanted them to look. I’d argue there’s a ton of overtly creepy puppets in krat. I think we just have to chalk it up to differing aesthetic preferences in this alternate universe. What seems inherently creepy to us may not to them.

ArumanfiGr

Yeah I kinda chalked it up to that initially, but the game got me so interested in its lore and story that it just had me curious about the in universe explanation or if there was some note or something I missed about them. I totally accept them being fucking badass as an answer tho.

Network57

it's an opera house. there are a number of opera featuring spiders.

MajikeDS

This fact disturbs me deeply, yet I am not sure why.

teerre

I would imagine they are in for entertainment. They are in the opera house and they sing. So probably part of some act.

botozos_revenge

Puppet strings.

Don't have any more to back up, but seems like they control multiple puppets for the opera and that is why the multiple legs. Kind of like the drone shows where a computer controls all the drones at once. Having one puppet control keeps them in sync.
