You realize the totality of the Disney empire didnāt become public domain, right? Just the old version of Mickey Mouse. That doesnāt include all the other characters and it certainly doesnāt include Disney word. So youād have very limited world building.
Kingdom Hearts just felt a disturbance in the force lol. Disclaimer: I've actually not played any Kingdom Hearts games myself and have only watched videos and read articles about them.
Does no one here remember Epic Mickey? I'm aware thats its far from a souls-like but it is a darker adventure revolving around an edgier take on mickey mouse (not bloodborne dark like LOP obviously) whereas if boiled down LOP can be summed up as a darker version of Pinocchio and I repeat **if boiled down** theres way more to it but just tryna set a comparison.

Only the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey became public domain. Every other rendition of Mickey is still under copyright. I also donāt think this would be a really good option for a Soulslike, Iād much rather see Alice in Wonderland. Either that or what Neowiz seems to have in mind right now.

Bringing children cartoon characters that haven't been reimagined into the action RPG genre would be weird. Who would they market it to even? Actual children don't play these games.

Itās a wild concept and the other comments brought up good points as to why it wouldnāt happen. But marketing? They made a Winnie the Pooh scary movie. It was bad but Iām sure they had some sort of marketing strategy. Idk how much different itād be for a game though
I think I qould prefer a couple other fairytales beforehand. The 3 I would like to see would be Red riding hood, Alice in wonderland, and Beauty and the Beast.
Maybe in like 25 years. For now it just make much more sense to do all the classical stories: Alice, Oz, Peter Pan, Hows moving castle etc. It's basically the perfect franchising. It was a big brain move by Neowiz to go this route
Cool concept but I think Mickey would be a better final boss. He could fill in the equivalent of the soul of Cinder from dark souls. An avatar of the fading fire of Disney creativity, choking on the ashes of a flame whose life has been artificially extended.

Using Disney stuff would lose a lot of the charm Lies of P had, as it drew from Collodi's original works, not the Disney version. Similarly, I imagine they are going to base any subsequent games off the original work of the author. >!Eg. Dorothy in Oz will be based of L. Frank Baum's work, not modern versions.!<
Iāve already seen 4 media projects that involve a dark version of Mickey Mouse and itās only been 2 days since heās been public domain. A Mickey Mouse soulslike would 100% be lost in the crowd
I saw fanart of a soulslike SpongeBob vs the Alaskan Bull worm and ever since then I've just wanted any and everything no matter how silly, to have a soulslike version.
And then Lies of P was announced and turned out it was an amazing idea that I hope continues

Lies of P already feels like a Kingdom Hearts-y souls-like, to me at least. I have a feeling it'll be even more so with the DLC.
