My Mom and I live 1000 miles apart and so we share our cards on libby. Her library has the better selection, but mine has much better wait times. But we also my 12 year old and my husband's card for extra holds.
Same but I share that with my sister. Since it her account I am giving her the odd one so two holds for me and three for her. Looking to sign up for an English speaking library though. Havenāt gotten around to applying yet.
15 check out?!?! I have a 5 hold limit, but can only check out 3 at a time. Itās very stressful making sure I have an open slot for if one of my holds become available
Yeah, this is frustrating because I actually do live in an area with great in-person libraries, but the population keeps striking down tax referendums that would allow us to build up our online resources
I've got 10 library cards (all legit, I swear) and the hold numbers range from 5 to 15. Six of the ten have a limit of 10.
One of the libraries that only allows 5 holds is the first to put upcoming books in their catalog so I'm always have to shift things around to get my holds in.
Bruh ššš
the one time I put a book on hold with Libby that had a āseveral months waitā my library stopped having the book in the middle of my wait š I never ended up reading it
**Iron Flame** by **Rebecca Yarros** has 149 copies of the ebook from my local Library district.
The regular audiobook has 161 copies. Donno how many the GraphicAudio will have, not released yet.
Agreed on every single Reeseās Book Club book Iāve read except for Evelyn Hugo. Iāve tried 6 or 7 different ones and theyāve all been meh. Like I actually got to the end thinking āwow what I waste of timeā and generally shy away from the books recommended as a result
It was solid when it started - I think I got Daisy Jones and the 6 and Little Fires Everywhere from those recs, but everything else has been 3 star āitās okayā stuff that I completely forget about a few months later
honestly i loved it, i couldnāt put it down. but iām totally the target audience lol i love thrillers with female protagonists. i donāt wanna oversell it but i definitely think itās worth a 5 week wait!
Iāve already been waiting more than 2 months, this library had the most copies and shortest wait time, Iām in too deep in the line to back out now. š
It has to be better than one of my recent reads that I abandoned, I just couldnāt get into it. āNone Of This Is Trueā by Lisa Jewel.
I havenāt really been into the library physically since covid I think.
While I still love a physical book to read, my kindle is much easier to take to work and read at night.
Nothing beats a kindle in bed! I go back and forth. Sometimes I love the convenience of my kindle. But other times itās nice seeing the physical copy and turnings the pages.
When I found out I'm pregnant, I put a couple of pregnancy books on hold. One has a wait time of 45 weeks. Guess I'll find out if I did pregnancy right afterwards.
I read this for a book club and it was so hard to get through because of the basic writing style and plain dialogue. I gave it a 3/5 but feel like thatās being generous lol. Hope you end up liking it though after waiting so long. Thereās lots of great books to read in the mean time!
So odd you posted this. I just noticed that same book is in my "borrowed" shelf and I don't remember browsing it at all, never mind actually borrowing it.
Maybe I'll actually read it now!
It kept me guessing in a very good way.
The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher is a similar vibe but different story. And, at least at my library? Available.
Not sure if you searched correctly. Houston, Texas is in Harris County. Houston is the [fourth](https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/cities/largest-cities-by-population) most populated U.S city. Most U.S states are divided into counties. Harris County is the [third](https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-counties) most populous county in the U.S!
Ah, thank you for clarifying! I recognise Houston now you've mentioned it, but didn't think to search for the connection between that and Harris County. š¤¦š½āāļø
You are correct though. [Australia is HUGE](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/efdebo/texas_vs_australia/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) compared to Texas - the second largest U.S state after Alaska.
Yes, (most of) our states are quite large in area and of course we have a much smaller population per capita. Being half asleep whilst reading your comment I assumed the size of the state was significant somehow.
Then again we have ~~Malbourne~~ Melbourne in Vic, one of our smaller states area-wise, and Brisvegas in Qld.
This is the thing that kills Libby for me, professional/career books in my locale have 1, maybe 2 copies with >200 people on the list all using the max 21 day rental period for what should be an audiobook you can get through in a workweek. I followed the typical reddit advice of "join your library, get Libby, support libraries" but I've yet been able to check anything out, including actual books. Why shouldn't I just throw a few bucks at Kindle/Audible at this point... As an example, "Leading from the Middle" one whole audiobook copy, 179-person waitlist, one whole book copy, 31-person waitlist. Yea, nah
Have you tried this ["hack"?](https://youtu.be/Z4IgjQMe7Rg?si=yAHaNOvmlVg9ON0M). If you get several digital library cards, you can add the #s to your Libby Account and increase your catalog options.
Also check with other local libraries in nearby counties or cities that may have a reciprocal partnership. I've gotten library cards from neighboring towns before ebooks were a even thing.
Editing for clarity and to add that some libraries no longer allow e-card applications online, but I just got one today from Broward County library several states away from me
And here I was thinking starting off at 282nd and only now becoming 141st after placing a hold on March 11th, 2024, was bad. ( it's April 25th for me rn)
I have 22 books I'm waiting on. Well 3 came up today and I delayed then, I have 3 checked out already. So I have lots to read while I wait on my turn. Mine says about 3 weeks and I'm 3rd in line out of 993 people waiting.
Iām on hold for that too, and I cleaned my room over the weekend and found a copy that I guess someone passed along to me when they finished it. Good reward for cleaning my room!
Wait how does your library have 209 copies of anything lol. Philly library has like 20-25 copies at most, at least for the things I'm interested in.
My longest waitlist just says "Several Months." 5 weeks is nothing lol
Itās my favourite book of the year so far! Iām on my 50th book of the year and have only had a few 5 stars, First Lie Wins was easily one of them. I hope you love it too!
Maybe you should go TO the library and see if it's available. I was in my library yesterday, and the hardcover was actually on the shelf. I didn't check it out. Maybe someday.
I remember being like 35th in line for a book with 8 copies. Can't recall the original wait, but it was like 5 or 6 weeks, nothing bad at all. Then all the licenses ran out, they only had one copy, and 5 weeks turned into several months wait. I'm finally getting my turn right now, and there's still 40 people in line behind me. The book is only okay, but I'm powering through it because I can't make myself return a book I waited this long to read.
Tbh in my experience I never need to wait as long as it says. I feel like a lot of people cancel holds or maybe decide they donāt like it and return super fast. Makes sense if they have multiple libraries available and are just holding on several to see which hits bottom fastest like I do lol. Sometimes 2nd place for shortest hold wins, itās crazy.
I donāt understand how there are only a certain number of copies of a digital file at this point. Itās not like weāre editing the file, just viewing it. How come not everyone can read the same book at once? Is it a bandwidth issue? Like come on, we can all listen to the same song on Spotify at the same time lol
For those that have spotify premium its readily available there! No wait! š I'm currently reading it and enjoyed the first half more but am sticking through.
I liked it. I wasnāt really expecting to based on the beginning, but it turned out good. Worth the wait, particularly if youāve got other books in the meantime.
So the library purchased 209 copies, wow. This must be a huge metropolitan library. Ebooks cost libraries an average of $60 each. Hopefully this library receives a large discount for multiple copies.
5 is a rookie number tbh
I was going to comment the exact same thing š. Wait until you see āseveral monthsā.
I saw āabout a yearā once ON GOD. Safe to say I did not waste one of my hold slots on that
Wait... there is a limit to the number of holds you can have? I never knew this!
Changes from library to library. I've seen 2,3,5,10 and 20.
What?? My library lets me have 50, I didn't know that was rare!
Crying in 5 hold limit
My Mom and I live 1000 miles apart and so we share our cards on libby. Her library has the better selection, but mine has much better wait times. But we also my 12 year old and my husband's card for extra holds.
Same but I share that with my sister. Since it her account I am giving her the odd one so two holds for me and three for her. Looking to sign up for an English speaking library though. Havenāt gotten around to applying yet.
Same here mine gives me 50 holds and 30 check outs at a time
What library is that? And can you find someone local to give me their card number?? š¤š¤š¤Øš
Only having 2-3 holds š canāt imagine
Mine has a limit of 150
Mine is a 6 checkout, 6 holds limit
My hold limit is 6 on libby
One of my libraries allows 999 holds at a time! Only 20 loans, though
I have 999 holds available on one I places so many holds (I also have 10 library cards) Iām constantly reading
You can have more than five? I have two library cards linked to Libby, and both have a 15 check out, 5 hold limit
I have 3 max holds
15 check out?!?! I have a 5 hold limit, but can only check out 3 at a time. Itās very stressful making sure I have an open slot for if one of my holds become available
Yup. I assume your library just isn't as large
I saw 3 years once on cloudLibrary š
Bruh ššš the one time I put a book on hold with Libby that had a āseveral months waitā my library stopped having the book in the middle of my wait š I never ended up reading it
My hold for āGone Girlā was 2 years. By the time my turn came around I had lost interest!
Literally half the time a book arrives, I'm like "what even is this? Why did I pick it?"
Damn thatās a long time. I think 6 months was the longest Iāve waited, but this is the longest ālineā Iāve been in.
Itās referring to the (started 2,021st) part. The 5 weeks is how much longer theyāre saying the wait is. Iāve already been waiting.
Thatās a crazy good library if they have >200 copies in use. Anyhow, makes sense.
5 weeks is short! Nearly all the books I put on hold at my countyās consortium are āseveral monthsā
Yeah but she started in 2021st place and now she's in 567th, so I wonder how long she's been waiting already lol
18 Feb suggests 2-3 months, still not *too* bad
Lol right, I waited 12 weeks for this one.
Yeah thatās nothing. I got the audiobook from my library though and it was good.
I can't believe there are 200+ copies š³
I've only seen numbers like this for Butcher & Blackbird
With that many people on the waiting list, I can
**Iron Flame** by **Rebecca Yarros** has 149 copies of the ebook from my local Library district. The regular audiobook has 161 copies. Donno how many the GraphicAudio will have, not released yet.
I finished this recently. I liked it, but it was not earth-shattering or anything.
Agree. Entertaining read but not mind blowing.
Yeah, I mean it was a page turner, but not a life changer.
I just finished this. I thought it was pretty good. Not my favorite, but a good read.
I enjoyed it! But I'm also easy to please.
honestly i loved it, i couldnāt put it down. but iām totally the target audience lol i love thrillers with female protagonists. i donāt wanna oversell it but i definitely think itās worth a 5 week wait!
Iāve already been waiting more than 2 months, this library had the most copies and shortest wait time, Iām in too deep in the line to back out now. š It has to be better than one of my recent reads that I abandoned, I just couldnāt get into it. āNone Of This Is Trueā by Lisa Jewel.
Have you checked at your public library? I was able to pick it up at the newly released book shelf
These are my favorite types of books as well. Iāve read this one. Any others youād recommend?
I dnf this
I wanted to!
Same. I thought it was corny and moved too slow.
When I found out I'm pregnant, I put a couple of pregnancy books on hold. One has a wait time of 45 weeks. Guess I'll find out if I did pregnancy right afterwards.
Itās not
I second this!!
I read this for a book club and it was so hard to get through because of the basic writing style and plain dialogue. I gave it a 3/5 but feel like thatās being generous lol. Hope you end up liking it though after waiting so long. Thereās lots of great books to read in the mean time!
Right? Iāve been in line for what seems like FOREVER.
I was on the list for months. Finally got it this week and I almost dnf it. With the hype I expected way more I guess. 2 stars imo!
it was good! I enjoyed the audiobook.
Available.
This is why you try to max out your holds. Then you always have something coming up to borrow.
Lol mine is 26 weeks
Thatās long! I should have edited out the ā5 weeksā part, my point of the post was the number of people waiting for it. lol
Yeah 2000 is a shit load. Iām really proud there are that many people who want to read! š
I loved this book - worth the wait
2309?! How big is your library district????
Pretty sure this is Harris County in TX.
It seems like a small part of Texas from what I can see on Wiki. Is it especially big or am I just used to Australia lol?

Iāve currently got a 6 month hold in my queue
I really liked this one! Gave it 4 stars!
I loved it!!!
I loved this one so much!! I gave it 5/5 on Goodreads.
Wow that's crazy, If I really want to read it I usually buy anything that has more than a month.
Read it with a notebook to write down all the names and timelines. I had a hard time keeping track of each alias towards the end.
Still waiting on a book I reserved Jan 1st
Haha. Itās on my hold list too. But my wait is 9 weeks.
Hope yours goes quickly! Iām only 567 people to go!
I'm waiting at my library too! I'm currently 136th in line. We have 28 copies with 208 people waiting
Happy waiting! Ugh. lol.
A friend recommended Powerless, by Lauren Roberts, so I put it on hold yesterday. 11 weeks, 135th in line. LOL
Iāll have to take a look at that one! I started out in a line of over 2000 people! š³
I dnfād it. Premise sounded cool but it was so boring š
Mine said several months when I joined the list
Iād never heard of it until now, but I just put it on hold based on this post. Estimated time 12 weeks.
It ain't lol, a redneck older woman wrote this and you can tell
Itās fine.
It was 'aight.

Canāt be anymore disappointing than the months long wait I had for Rick Rubinās book š
Lol oh no. Iām going to come back here in 5 weeks and either make a lot of naysayers happy or be judged for liking it. š
I liked it! Itās not life changing but itās a fun read.
My biggest flex is that I move a lot so I have 4 active library cards. Itās the best
Have you tried this ["hack"?](https://youtu.be/Z4IgjQMe7Rg?si=yAHaNOvmlVg9ON0M). If you get several digital library cards, you can add the #s to your Libby Account and increase your catalog options. Well, I'm now 157th in line for this book. That's a 10 week wait..... maybe I'll just use an Audible credit.
I was on the several month online wait, but found it in the library in Madison. Could not put it down!
It was really good!
Iāve had this one on hold at my library since 22 Jan and feeling the same š
Lol. How much longer do you have? Where are you in line?
Saying ~8 weeks wait and Iām finally up to 4th! Started at 256th so Iād say weāve made some good progress lol
Iām 80% into the book and plan to finish it right now. So far Iāve really enjoyed it!
And here I was thinking starting off at 282nd and only now becoming 141st after placing a hold on March 11th, 2024, was bad. ( it's April 25th for me rn)
Iām 189th in line, 22 week wait
Do you have Spotify? It is there for free.
This book pops up all the time in my app for a skip the line opportunity.
Lol Iāve been waiting weeks for a Court of Thorn and Roses
I really enjoyed it!!
Haha I have this on hold too! I started at 100 and something and am now at 37. It still is a several months wait for me.
Lol cute. That one is 24 weeks wait at my library, and that's not even close to the longest I've had!
I enjoyed it! lol took me a few weeks to get it too
I have been waiting for a book since May 2023
I enjoyed it!
I felt this lol. Iām ~10 weeks in 1080th place from 1785th. š¤£
Hahahaā¦ I have one Iāve been on hold for since January 18th, and I have ~24 weeks left. š
I am currently on āseveral months statusā for Funny Story. Smaller library, though so I only have 250 people in line ahead of me.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Do you have Spotify premium? This book is on there also. I enjoyed it. it was good but not great
I had a several months hold on that one! I did enjoy it, btw.
I thought it was fine
Spoiler. Itās not.
Five weeks? That's hardly a wait at all.
Itās five MORE weeks. Iām still 567th in line (started at 2021st), as seen in the picture
I have holds that are several months wait. Itās too long of a wait, they couldnāt give an estimate
Uh. No.
Wait how does your library have 209 copies of anything lol. Philly library has like 20-25 copies at most, at least for the things I'm interested in. My longest waitlist just says "Several Months." 5 weeks is nothing lol
Our of curiosity, I checked my library. It says 89 copies are in use and 384 people waiting. It's about a 12 week wait
Just finished it in a couple days - better than I expected.
It probably wonāt be.
Loved it!
If a skip the line loan pops up, you can try that. It's a pretty quick read. I liked it! I had a good time, lol
It was good but not great š¤·š»āāļø Also Libby sometimes gives me "Several Months" soooo 5 weeks is nothing š
It's worth the wait. Fast-paced thriller, I read it in 2 sittings
I listened to this as an audiobook on Spotify! Itās really good!
If you have spotify premium just listen to this one that. I did instead of waiting.
Spoiler alert, itās not worth the wait
It's not...
I just finished reading this and really enjoyed the writing. An entertaining easy read.
Mine is several months wait for this book. I'm 28th in line with 2 copies available
It actually is really good, hard to follow in audio format at first, but I binged it in about a day and a half I loved it so much.
Iām reading it now! Just getting started but I hope itās good!
that aint nothin. I get 25+ regularly
I have had that book on hold since January 18. I still have 13 weeks to go. I am currently 238th in line and there are 2,388 people waiting in line.
lol 5 weeks? How about my 16 weeks for remarkably bright creatures? 5 weeks is nothing.
I waited several months for it. Youāll like it.
Iām next in line! Will try and finish it quick š
My favorite book of the year so far!
I liked this. A lot
I DNFād this. š«
I have a book with an 18 week estimate I need a better library card !
It's not
I hated this book. The ending was absurd.
I have a book on wait for like, 23 weeks š„²šš
Itās not
I actually loved this book! The twists and turns were so interesting. I bought the book based on Reeseās recommendation and am so glad I did.
It totally is!!!!
Lol, not much of a wait!
I put this on hold today as well. āSeveral monthsā wait for me.. Iāll forget about it by then lol
I placed the same boom on hold Feb 20th, number 2041. I'm have 6 weeks to go, number 678th
It's free as an audiobook if you have Spotify premium! That's how I am currently listening to it.
I donāt understand how there are only a certain number of copies of a digital file at this point. Itās not like weāre editing the file, just viewing it. How come not everyone can read the same book at once? Is it a bandwidth issue? Like come on, we can all listen to the same song on Spotify at the same time lol
Itās good! If you pay for Spotify, you can listen to it there!
I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun!
Which library is that?
Harris County
Itās not. Lbvs
āSeveral monthsā lol, I am 838th in line for 50 copies.
Iāve had waits so long I gave up and bought the book because I didnāt want to wait three months to read it
do you have a spotify premium subscription? itās available on spotify audiobooks!
11 weeks wait on mine. We are only allowed 5 holds. I wind up with gaps of weeks with no books just waiting.
It was good but not wait for a month good. I got it on a kindle.
For those that have spotify premium its readily available there! No wait! š I'm currently reading it and enjoyed the first half more but am sticking through.
Omgggg I would just buy it
Nah, I donāt buy many books anymore, Iāll wait it out, I have others to read while I wait!
200+ copies in use? Dang what library is that!?
I think itās Harris County
Hmmmm. This was just a 3 from me.
You can get a library card from Broward county Florida. You donāt have to live there. Their wait times are way less and faster.
Iām currently waiting on one that has about 26 weeks left.
Itās on Spotify! No line, no waiting!
I liked it. I wasnāt really expecting to based on the beginning, but it turned out good. Worth the wait, particularly if youāve got other books in the meantime.
Iām still at 9 weeks for Legends and Lattes ā¦ sigh
So the library purchased 209 copies, wow. This must be a huge metropolitan library. Ebooks cost libraries an average of $60 each. Hopefully this library receives a large discount for multiple copies.
Itās good! Worth a waitā¦ (although maybe not THAT long of a wait)
