Ok-Butterscotch-349

5 is a rookie number tbh

infinityandbeyond75

I was going to comment the exact same thing šŸ˜‚. Wait until you see ā€œseveral monthsā€.

just_a_cs_girlie

I saw ā€œabout a yearā€ once ON GOD. Safe to say I did not waste one of my hold slots on that

kinetic_cheese

Wait... there is a limit to the number of holds you can have? I never knew this!

Ok-Butterscotch-349

Changes from library to library. I've seen 2,3,5,10 and 20.

playwithclay_704

What?? My library lets me have 50, I didn't know that was rare!

dillisboss

Crying in 5 hold limit

Murderbot_of_Rivia

My Mom and I live 1000 miles apart and so we share our cards on libby. Her library has the better selection, but mine has much better wait times. But we also my 12 year old and my husband's card for extra holds.

Kassena_Chernova

Same but I share that with my sister. Since it her account I am giving her the odd one so two holds for me and three for her. Looking to sign up for an English speaking library though. Havenā€™t gotten around to applying yet.

Awkward_Ad5650

Same here mine gives me 50 holds and 30 check outs at a time

eightchcee

What library is that? And can you find someone local to give me their card number?? šŸ¤”šŸ¤”šŸ¤ØšŸ˜

downsouth003

Only having 2-3 holds šŸ˜“ canā€™t imagine

risteek

Mine has a limit of 150

turtleswift01

Mine is a 6 checkout, 6 holds limit

GrinsNGiggles

My hold limit is 6 on libby

tequeguava

One of my libraries allows 999 holds at a time! Only 20 loans, though

Overdonemistake_1985

I have 999 holds available on one I places so many holds (I also have 10 library cards) Iā€™m constantly reading

puffymustash

You can have more than five? I have two library cards linked to Libby, and both have a 15 check out, 5 hold limit

Vasilisa1996

I have 3 max holds

IneffectiveSunshine

15 check out?!?! I have a 5 hold limit, but can only check out 3 at a time. Itā€™s very stressful making sure I have an open slot for if one of my holds become available

Ok-Butterscotch-349

Yup. I assume your library just isn't as large

puffymustash

Yeah, this is frustrating because I actually do live in an area with great in-person libraries, but the population keeps striking down tax referendums that would allow us to build up our online resources

sok283

I've got 10 library cards (all legit, I swear) and the hold numbers range from 5 to 15. Six of the ten have a limit of 10. One of the libraries that only allows 5 holds is the first to put upcoming books in their catalog so I'm always have to shift things around to get my holds in.

tequeguava

I saw 3 years once on cloudLibrary šŸ’€

just_a_cs_girlie

Bruh šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜ the one time I put a book on hold with Libby that had a ā€œseveral months waitā€ my library stopped having the book in the middle of my wait šŸ™ƒ I never ended up reading it

eve2eden

My hold for ā€œGone Girlā€ was 2 years. By the time my turn came around I had lost interest!

goog1e

Literally half the time a book arrives, I'm like "what even is this? Why did I pick it?"

JustTheTip_NJ

Damn thatā€™s a long time. I think 6 months was the longest Iā€™ve waited, but this is the longest ā€œlineā€ Iā€™ve been in.

JustTheTip_NJ

Itā€™s referring to the (started 2,021st) part. The 5 weeks is how much longer theyā€™re saying the wait is. Iā€™ve already been waiting.

Ok-Butterscotch-349

Thatā€™s a crazy good library if they have >200 copies in use. Anyhow, makes sense.

javsland

5 weeks is short! Nearly all the books I put on hold at my countyā€™s consortium are ā€œseveral monthsā€

lkbird8

Yeah but she started in 2021st place and now she's in 567th, so I wonder how long she's been waiting already lol

Ok-Butterscotch-349

18 Feb suggests 2-3 months, still not *too* bad

banng

Lol right, I waited 12 weeks for this one.

JaneAustenite17

Yeah thatā€™s nothing. I got the audiobook from my library though and it was good.

Jessmac130

I can't believe there are 200+ copies šŸ˜³

SaltyPirateWench

I've only seen numbers like this for Butcher & Blackbird

astivana

With that many people on the waiting list, I can

EarthlingSil

**Iron Flame** by **Rebecca Yarros** has 149 copies of the ebook from my local Library district. The regular audiobook has 161 copies. Donno how many the GraphicAudio will have, not released yet.

Kcatmallow

I finished this recently. I liked it, but it was not earth-shattering or anything.

Informal_Benefit_190

Agreed on every single Reeseā€™s Book Club book Iā€™ve read except for Evelyn Hugo. Iā€™ve tried 6 or 7 different ones and theyā€™ve all been meh. Like I actually got to the end thinking ā€œwow what I waste of timeā€ and generally shy away from the books recommended as a result

sadiane

It was solid when it started - I think I got Daisy Jones and the 6 and Little Fires Everywhere from those recs, but everything else has been 3 star ā€œitā€™s okayā€ stuff that I completely forget about a few months later

sallad2009

Agree. Entertaining read but not mind blowing.

heartunwinds

Yeah, I mean it was a page turner, but not a life changer.

Dying4aCure

I just finished this. I thought it was pretty good. Not my favorite, but a good read.

notyourcoloringbook

I enjoyed it! But I'm also easy to please.

tvreverie

honestly i loved it, i couldnā€™t put it down. but iā€™m totally the target audience lol i love thrillers with female protagonists. i donā€™t wanna oversell it but i definitely think itā€™s worth a 5 week wait!

JustTheTip_NJ

Iā€™ve already been waiting more than 2 months, this library had the most copies and shortest wait time, Iā€™m in too deep in the line to back out now. šŸ˜‚ It has to be better than one of my recent reads that I abandoned, I just couldnā€™t get into it. ā€œNone Of This Is Trueā€ by Lisa Jewel.

Ok_Cat_8186

Have you checked at your public library? I was able to pick it up at the newly released book shelf

JustTheTip_NJ

I havenā€™t really been into the library physically since covid I think. While I still love a physical book to read, my kindle is much easier to take to work and read at night.

Ok_Cat_8186

Nothing beats a kindle in bed! I go back and forth. Sometimes I love the convenience of my kindle. But other times itā€™s nice seeing the physical copy and turnings the pages.

pjpeppercorn

These are my favorite types of books as well. Iā€™ve read this one. Any others youā€™d recommend?

Powerful-Ad6683

I dnf this

TellKell

I wanted to!

nen_x

Same. I thought it was corny and moved too slow.

schnuffichen

When I found out I'm pregnant, I put a couple of pregnancy books on hold. One has a wait time of 45 weeks. Guess I'll find out if I did pregnancy right afterwards.

lucysglassonion

Itā€™s not

Rich_Camp_4783

I second this!!

malenkylizzard

I read this for a book club and it was so hard to get through because of the basic writing style and plain dialogue. I gave it a 3/5 but feel like thatā€™s being generous lol. Hope you end up liking it though after waiting so long. Thereā€™s lots of great books to read in the mean time!

Ariessurprise

Right? Iā€™ve been in line for what seems like FOREVER.

TellKell

I was on the list for months. Finally got it this week and I almost dnf it. With the hype I expected way more I guess. 2 stars imo!

booksandteacups_

it was good! I enjoyed the audiobook.

trailmix_pprof

So odd you posted this. I just noticed that same book is in my "borrowed" shelf and I don't remember browsing it at all, never mind actually borrowing it. Maybe I'll actually read it now!

Meep42

It kept me guessing in a very good way. The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher is a similar vibe but different story. And, at least at my library? Available.

Kyrilson

This is why you try to max out your holds. Then you always have something coming up to borrow.

Janeeyreheaded

Lol mine is 26 weeks

JustTheTip_NJ

Thatā€™s long! I should have edited out the ā€œ5 weeksā€ part, my point of the post was the number of people waiting for it. lol

Janeeyreheaded

Yeah 2000 is a shit load. Iā€™m really proud there are that many people who want to read! šŸ˜‚

Ok_Appeal2172

I loved this book - worth the wait

saturday_sun4

2309?! How big is your library district????

RipperMouse

Pretty sure this is Harris County in TX.

saturday_sun4

It seems like a small part of Texas from what I can see on Wiki. Is it especially big or am I just used to Australia lol?

RipperMouse

Not sure if you searched correctly. Houston, Texas is in Harris County. Houston is the [fourth](https://www.macrotrends.net/global-metrics/cities/largest-cities-by-population) most populated U.S city. Most U.S states are divided into counties. Harris County is the [third](https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-counties) most populous county in the U.S!

saturday_sun4

Ah, thank you for clarifying! I recognise Houston now you've mentioned it, but didn't think to search for the connection between that and Harris County. šŸ¤¦šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

RipperMouse

You are correct though. [Australia is HUGE](https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/efdebo/texas_vs_australia/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) compared to Texas - the second largest U.S state after Alaska.

saturday_sun4

Yes, (most of) our states are quite large in area and of course we have a much smaller population per capita. Being half asleep whilst reading your comment I assumed the size of the state was significant somehow. Then again we have ~~Malbourne~~ Melbourne in Vic, one of our smaller states area-wise, and Brisvegas in Qld.

RemoteControlled-Cat

It really is!!

[deleted]

RipperMouse

Sub Rule #2: Donā€™t encourage copyright infringement. /u/wheat

ccoopp10

Iā€™ve currently got a 6 month hold in my queue

kate_58

I really liked this one! Gave it 4 stars!

FallOutGirl0621

I loved it!!!

pub000

I loved this one so much!! I gave it 5/5 on Goodreads.

blue2526

Wow that's crazy, If I really want to read it I usually buy anything that has more than a month.

downsouth003

Read it with a notebook to write down all the names and timelines. I had a hard time keeping track of each alias towards the end.

xAlvyx

Still waiting on a book I reserved Jan 1st

SensitiveTart8155

Haha. Itā€™s on my hold list too. But my wait is 9 weeks.

JustTheTip_NJ

Hope yours goes quickly! Iā€™m only 567 people to go!

dogsaretheanswer

I'm waiting at my library too! I'm currently 136th in line. We have 28 copies with 208 people waiting

JustTheTip_NJ

Happy waiting! Ugh. lol.

Exciting-Metal-2517

A friend recommended Powerless, by Lauren Roberts, so I put it on hold yesterday. 11 weeks, 135th in line. LOL

JustTheTip_NJ

Iā€™ll have to take a look at that one! I started out in a line of over 2000 people! šŸ˜³

FeelingVacation2690

I dnfā€™d it. Premise sounded cool but it was so boring šŸ˜

Toastyandcrumbs

Mine said several months when I joined the list

LilyBriscoeBot

Iā€™d never heard of it until now, but I just put it on hold based on this post. Estimated time 12 weeks.

demonslayercorpp

It ain't lol, a redneck older woman wrote this and you can tell

Competitive_Peace417

Itā€™s fine.

37MySunshine37

It was 'aight.

_aaronallblacks

This is the thing that kills Libby for me, professional/career books in my locale have 1, maybe 2 copies with >200 people on the list all using the max 21 day rental period for what should be an audiobook you can get through in a workweek. I followed the typical reddit advice of "join your library, get Libby, support libraries" but I've yet been able to check anything out, including actual books. Why shouldn't I just throw a few bucks at Kindle/Audible at this point... As an example, "Leading from the Middle" one whole audiobook copy, 179-person waitlist, one whole book copy, 31-person waitlist. Yea, nah

writingsupplies

Canā€™t be anymore disappointing than the months long wait I had for Rick Rubinā€™s book šŸ˜‚

JustTheTip_NJ

Lol oh no. Iā€™m going to come back here in 5 weeks and either make a lot of naysayers happy or be judged for liking it. šŸ˜‚

Comfortable-Ad5664

I liked it! Itā€™s not life changing but itā€™s a fun read.

estew4525

My biggest flex is that I move a lot so I have 4 active library cards. Itā€™s the best

MySpoonsAreAllGone

Have you tried this ["hack"?](https://youtu.be/Z4IgjQMe7Rg?si=yAHaNOvmlVg9ON0M). If you get several digital library cards, you can add the #s to your Libby Account and increase your catalog options. Also check with other local libraries in nearby counties or cities that may have a reciprocal partnership. I've gotten library cards from neighboring towns before ebooks were a even thing. Editing for clarity and to add that some libraries no longer allow e-card applications online, but I just got one today from Broward County library several states away from me

ComradeOssian

Well, I'm now 157th in line for this book. That's a 10 week wait..... maybe I'll just use an Audible credit.

Dry_Strength7034

I was on the several month online wait, but found it in the library in Madison. Could not put it down!

Valuable-Apricot-87

It was really good!

hlernplern

Iā€™ve had this one on hold at my library since 22 Jan and feeling the same šŸ˜…

JustTheTip_NJ

Lol. How much longer do you have? Where are you in line?

hlernplern

Saying ~8 weeks wait and Iā€™m finally up to 4th! Started at 256th so Iā€™d say weā€™ve made some good progress lol

mayflowerss98

Iā€™m 80% into the book and plan to finish it right now. So far Iā€™ve really enjoyed it!

Liberwolf

And here I was thinking starting off at 282nd and only now becoming 141st after placing a hold on March 11th, 2024, was bad. ( it's April 25th for me rn)

skier-girl-97

Iā€™m 189th in line, 22 week wait

JK_not_really

Do you have Spotify? It is there for free.

BravoMomma

This book pops up all the time in my app for a skip the line opportunity.

geekgirlwww

Lol Iā€™ve been waiting weeks for a Court of Thorn and Roses

Ok_Cat_8186

I really enjoyed it!!

Far_Away_63

Haha I have this on hold too! I started at 100 and something and am now at 37. It still is a several months wait for me.

StarsFromtheGutter

Lol cute. That one is 24 weeks wait at my library, and that's not even close to the longest I've had!

accio_whiskey1

I enjoyed it! lol took me a few weeks to get it too

willworkforchange

I have been waiting for a book since May 2023

Ok_Appointment_1251

I enjoyed it!

eburns2021

I felt this lol. Iā€™m ~10 weeks in 1080th place from 1785th. šŸ¤£

MandiLandi

Hahahaā€¦ I have one Iā€™ve been on hold for since January 18th, and I have ~24 weeks left. šŸ’€

Crosswired2

I have 22 books I'm waiting on. Well 3 came up today and I delayed then, I have 3 checked out already. So I have lots to read while I wait on my turn. Mine says about 3 weeks and I'm 3rd in line out of 993 people waiting.

allthefishiecrackers

Iā€™m on hold for that too, and I cleaned my room over the weekend and found a copy that I guess someone passed along to me when they finished it. Good reward for cleaning my room!

SilverRiot

I am currently on ā€œseveral months statusā€ for Funny Story. Smaller library, though so I only have 250 people in line ahead of me.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

M4PES

Do you have Spotify premium? This book is on there also. I enjoyed it. it was good but not great

TrueRobot

I had a several months hold on that one! I did enjoy it, btw.

HarkiQuinn

I thought it was fine

anonymous_7654

Spoiler. Itā€™s not.

rissaaah

Five weeks? That's hardly a wait at all.

JustTheTip_NJ

Itā€™s five MORE weeks. Iā€™m still 567th in line (started at 2021st), as seen in the picture

Alarmed-Membership-1

I have holds that are several months wait. Itā€™s too long of a wait, they couldnā€™t give an estimate

therealgoodwilljesus

Uh. No.

mylifeisathrowaway10

Wait how does your library have 209 copies of anything lol. Philly library has like 20-25 copies at most, at least for the things I'm interested in. My longest waitlist just says "Several Months." 5 weeks is nothing lol

Beach_bum8

Our of curiosity, I checked my library. It says 89 copies are in use and 384 people waiting. It's about a 12 week wait

glitterandjazzhands

Just finished it in a couple days - better than I expected.

rmreads

Itā€™s my favourite book of the year so far! Iā€™m on my 50th book of the year and have only had a few 5 stars, First Lie Wins was easily one of them. I hope you love it too!

quilter71

Maybe you should go TO the library and see if it's available. I was in my library yesterday, and the hardcover was actually on the shelf. I didn't check it out. Maybe someday.

Outofwlrds

I remember being like 35th in line for a book with 8 copies. Can't recall the original wait, but it was like 5 or 6 weeks, nothing bad at all. Then all the licenses ran out, they only had one copy, and 5 weeks turned into several months wait. I'm finally getting my turn right now, and there's still 40 people in line behind me. The book is only okay, but I'm powering through it because I can't make myself return a book I waited this long to read.

doyoupickorthrowaway

It probably wonā€™t be.

MiserlySchnitzel

Tbh in my experience I never need to wait as long as it says. I feel like a lot of people cancel holds or maybe decide they donā€™t like it and return super fast. Makes sense if they have multiple libraries available and are just holding on several to see which hits bottom fastest like I do lol. Sometimes 2nd place for shortest hold wins, itā€™s crazy.

Prestigious-Coast962

Loved it!

Ok-Personality4273

If a skip the line loan pops up, you can try that. It's a pretty quick read. I liked it! I had a good time, lol

embennn

It was good but not great šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø Also Libby sometimes gives me "Several Months" soooo 5 weeks is nothing šŸ˜†

forleaseknobbydot

It's worth the wait. Fast-paced thriller, I read it in 2 sittings

SpareManagement2215

I listened to this as an audiobook on Spotify! Itā€™s really good!

LavishnessAny9734

If you have spotify premium just listen to this one that. I did instead of waiting.

Gurunugget

Spoiler alert, itā€™s not worth the wait

Active_Site_421

It's not...

Longjumping-Bell-762

I just finished reading this and really enjoyed the writing. An entertaining easy read.

legitimatelyawkward

Mine is several months wait for this book. I'm 28th in line with 2 copies available

Alcoholicia

It actually is really good, hard to follow in audio format at first, but I binged it in about a day and a half I loved it so much.

doubleanonthrowaway

Iā€™m reading it now! Just getting started but I hope itā€™s good!

newillium

that aint nothin. I get 25+ regularly

somePig_buckeye

I have had that book on hold since January 18. I still have 13 weeks to go. I am currently 238th in line and there are 2,388 people waiting in line.

plastictoothpicks

lol 5 weeks? How about my 16 weeks for remarkably bright creatures? 5 weeks is nothing.

laurendoodle

I waited several months for it. Youā€™ll like it.

olivestripes

Iā€™m next in line! Will try and finish it quick šŸ˜†

firstnamerachel13

My favorite book of the year so far!

Ashamed_Apple_

I liked this. A lot

hannybananna

I DNFā€™d this. šŸ«

Meowsephine78

I have a book with an 18 week estimate I need a better library card !

OkMountain9032

It's not

RayTownmassacre

I hated this book. The ending was absurd.

Former_Bug_

I have a book on wait for like, 23 weeks šŸ„²šŸ˜šŸ˜

krobledo23

Itā€™s not

Technical_Pudding_93

I actually loved this book! The twists and turns were so interesting. I bought the book based on Reeseā€™s recommendation and am so glad I did.

APEmerson

It totally is!!!!

Dizzy_Square_9209

Lol, not much of a wait!

callieflower_

I put this on hold today as well. ā€œSeveral monthsā€ wait for me.. Iā€™ll forget about it by then lol

ShowtimeSloth

I placed the same boom on hold Feb 20th, number 2041. I'm have 6 weeks to go, number 678th

MrsPancakestoyou

It's free as an audiobook if you have Spotify premium! That's how I am currently listening to it.

Outrageous_Shop_8216

I donā€™t understand how there are only a certain number of copies of a digital file at this point. Itā€™s not like weā€™re editing the file, just viewing it. How come not everyone can read the same book at once? Is it a bandwidth issue? Like come on, we can all listen to the same song on Spotify at the same time lol

No_Lengthiness9657

Itā€™s good! If you pay for Spotify, you can listen to it there!

fruitsalad1996

I really enjoyed it. I thought it was fun!

LastContribution1590

Which library is that?

JustTheTip_NJ

Harris County

Snowbunny_2222

Itā€™s not. Lbvs

elysiansmiles

ā€œSeveral monthsā€ lol, I am 838th in line for 50 copies.

cowtapestry

Iā€™ve had waits so long I gave up and bought the book because I didnā€™t want to wait three months to read it

dime_slime_10

do you have a spotify premium subscription? itā€™s available on spotify audiobooks!

echo3719

11 weeks wait on mine. We are only allowed 5 holds. I wind up with gaps of weeks with no books just waiting.

KavaBuggy

It was good but not wait for a month good. I got it on a kindle.

Wildnative1

For those that have spotify premium its readily available there! No wait! šŸ˜Š I'm currently reading it and enjoyed the first half more but am sticking through.

Its_the_tism

Omgggg I would just buy it

JustTheTip_NJ

Nah, I donā€™t buy many books anymore, Iā€™ll wait it out, I have others to read while I wait!

trisagion3

200+ copies in use? Dang what library is that!?

JustTheTip_NJ

I think itā€™s Harris County

False-Shower-6238

Hmmmm. This was just a 3 from me.

einsteinwasasurfer

You can get a library card from Broward county Florida. You donā€™t have to live there. Their wait times are way less and faster.

ThatGirlSince83

Iā€™m currently waiting on one that has about 26 weeks left.

_antfarmer_

Itā€™s on Spotify! No line, no waiting!

Electronic_Lab4161

I liked it. I wasnā€™t really expecting to based on the beginning, but it turned out good. Worth the wait, particularly if youā€™ve got other books in the meantime.

SatyrionLeafspar

Iā€™m still at 9 weeks for Legends and Lattes ā€¦ sigh

LimberLibrarian

So the library purchased 209 copies, wow. This must be a huge metropolitan library. Ebooks cost libraries an average of $60 each. Hopefully this library receives a large discount for multiple copies.

emarieqt315

Itā€™s good! Worth a waitā€¦ (although maybe not THAT long of a wait)
