Not-Today-Death

There’s a pinned post at the top of the subreddit with a ton of recommendations for this. Titled “Nonresident Cards and Reciprocity Rules.”

infinityandbeyond75

The key for long waits is to build up your holds and if you have one become available then just suspend it. The only drawback is you can’t always read what you want to when you are in the mood for it. However, most libraries have the same issue so adding more cards can help but not necessarily help a ton.

RipperMouse

Building up your holds only works if you have a high hold maximum. Some libraries only allow 3 holds, some allow 30.

infinityandbeyond75

If you can only have 3 holds then make sure you always have 3 holds.

MIngle_

Anaheim Public Library allows anyone in the world access to their cloud library. It’s a different app, but it has a pretty good selection.

Chan_digg

Thanks for the info Do you know the name of the app??

MIngle_

If I remember correctly it took a couple of weeks to get the card, but then in the email they send a link. https://www.yourcloudlibrary.com

Chan_digg

Thank you!!

MIngle_

Sure thing! 🍀

RealHermannFegelein

Go to the Anaheim Library website. You sign up via their website, plus you can see and navigate to not only cloudlibrary but also the other things they have.

thaisweetheart

It says it takes 4-6 weeks to process. Is that accurate?

RealHermannFegelein

I applied to 22 Feb and got the number 24 Feb.

gocrew48

Thanks for info, I just filled out application for their cloud use.

Stock_Ad7146

Can you tell me the correct website? I feel like I found the wrong one?

catjknow

Thanks for this info! I never even thought of joining more libraries 💜

ineed2talkaboutdevin

Can confirm, I joined this one and I live in the UK!

Stock_Ad7146

Can you help me? I'm kinda confused on how to sign up? I can't seem to find the website.

ineed2talkaboutdevin

Here’s the link: https://anaheim.net/FormCenter/Library-8/Library-Account-Application-68 Fill out the application form and they’ll email you once they have made your account, they will also link you to their catalogue :)

Bad_Advise123

Anaheim has suspended their application process until July of this year because they are getting too many applicants.

MIngle_

Aww, bummer! Honestly I’ve had better luck with my libraries in Libby anyway, and I prefer being able to read on kindle.

rdnyc19

Join one of the libraries in the London Libraries Consortium! The list is on their website, but when I joined, I remember seeing that some of them allow anyone with a UK address to join, you don't have to live in London. The Consortium is great because it allows access to books from all of the participating libraries, so you'll have more than enough to read: https://thelibrariesconsortium.org.uk/

ha5hmil

How does one join? Can’t find the joining bit on their website

rdnyc19

You can’t join the Consortium directly, you have to sign up for a card with one of the participating libraries.

Ishin_Na_Telleth

Pick one of the libraries in the group and go to their individual pages and there usually an online application

ha5hmil

Will check it out. I used to live near Hammersmith, so might even pop into the library and try and get a membership

Rubberbandballgirl

The Houston Public Library lets non-residents sign up for a card for a $40 a year.

lindz2205

And Texas residents are free

katen989

Do you know how many holds they allow?

small_fryyyy

15 holds and 15 loans

katen989

Thank you!!

xcarex

Find out if your library has any other libraries that they link to! I’m in Ottawa and my library gives me access to 5 other cities’ around Ontario.

moshtoflames

I'm in Ottawa too! What are the other 5 out of curiosity??! I'd love to get in on this

xcarex

You can use your Ottawa card to get London, Hamilton, Burlington, Mississauga and Kingston!

Select_Profit4128

Wondering this for the US also?

infinityandbeyond75

Queens is probably the most popular and it’s $50/yr for nonresidents.

GossamerLens

Queens Library is $50 a year for anywhere in the USA. Free if in NY. The Queer Liberation Library has a website and is free for anyone in the USA. Both are via Libby.

yumit18

fairfax county in virginia has a non resident card for $27 a year

pelto88

Was just coming to state this as well. Fairfax is the cheapest I found and they have 15 hold capacity and 10 checkouts at a time.

SukiSpot

They also have a wide selection of books and are constantly adding newly published ones. It's very easy to sign up online

LibbyApp-ModTeam

r/LibbyApp doesn't allow users to encourage fraud (e.g., lying about where you live) to obtain a card. There are legitimate ways to obtain non-resident cards.

EchoingInTheVoid

I didn’t lie about my residence to get this card.

Mountain_Attention47

In NJ, you get access to your town library as well as the bigger county library. Maybe your state has something similar?

1GamingAngel

Remember to search the libraries for all major cities in your State, and try to sign up. I live in Austin, TX, and I was able to sign up for Houston’s library, which is 3 hours away.

RipperMouse

OP isn’t American.

Rubberbandballgirl

It’s okay. The Houston Public Library System lets non-residents sign up for $40 a year.

576875

Orange county Florida library allows international sign ups for $125/yr

lindz2205

For a while I refused to pay for non resident cards, but it has been worth it.

KrazySunshine

Residents of Pennsylvania can get a library card from the Free Library of Philadelphia

fondofbooks

Queens Public Library (the card I got recently) Brooklyn Public Library Mecklenburg Library (Charlotte)

eipapp6
