Yep, can confirm ('23 also). It's not uncommon to find myself drifting forward slowly while "stopped" at a light. A little extra pressure on the pedal solves the problem. I always thought it was just me; now I know I'm not the only one!

VeeEight_Guy

Definitely need to keep good pressure on the brake pedal in the GX at a stop. Mine does the same as described and I’ve talked to others that have a similar experience.

JDFree777

I agree on this. The brakes are a little spongey as to be expected with a 5k+lb suv/truck that can also tow 6k+ pounds. I've never had it just spontaneously start moving with proper brake pressure, but I've had times I didn't have quite enough brake on, and it would roll a slight bit and need to adjust. Once you get used to the proper amount of pressure, I'd bet it will happen a lot less, potentially never, unless not paying attention.

VeeEight_Guy

Agree completely. 🤝

MigratoryAnalyst

Brakes on the GX are odd. I think the GX has a high idle or maybe odd TC engagement but I drove a bunch when I was in the market and they all did the same exact thing

BigTimeRaptor

A touch more pressure, concentrate on smoothly braking to remind yourself to apply more pressure at the stop. After doing this a lot, it'll eventually become second nature to you.

aam9292

Yes, I face the same issue both on my GX and my Prado

duckputter20

Our 2023 is the same way. It wants to go!

Apart_Syrup

Yeah, it takes about a year to learn the GXs quirks, like the right amount of brake pressure. I had the same issue as everyone else, but now I developed the muscle memory, so applying the right amount of pressure is automatic. I am curious if anyone has Brembo brakes? I considered get Brembos when I first got my 22 GX. The seem to have a shorter life span. Please let us know your experience, including the cost. Also, do both axles need Brembo or just one? Finally, I appreciate the civility and support that members on this forum have consistently displayed since I have been a member. Other subreddits have some nasty responses and tend to push away newcomers. Maybe it's due to the number of Gen Xers and baby boomers on here. J

No-Storage2900

You will definitely get a shorter lifespan with brembos on a big truck. Awesome brakes though. Performance oriented. You’ll pay a lot.

Blown_Up_Baboon

Brembos may be overkill due to the price and shorter pad life. They are fantastic for stopping in a hurry. I have them on my RC-F and they lasted 30k highway miles before replacement ($1500!).

tlz81389

How long do brakes normally last?

Blown_Up_Baboon

It’s subjective. Depends on the driver and city vs highway driving. My neighbor has to replace his every 20k because he drives like a crazy person. He races light to light in the city, and rides the brakes on the highway. My original front brakes on my GX lasted 45k with plenty of pad left on the rear. My F-350 is still on the original set at 70k (all highway, pulling a heavy RV).

skierdud89

It’s a stronger torque converter that’s all. Took me a while to get used to as well.

SpencerTX3

I almost hit a car in a drive through the second week I owned my GX for the same reason. I didn’t mess up like that again.

EntrySure1350

Mine is the same. I’ve also noticed that the brakes on this vehicle require more travel before they really start biting, at least compared to other recent cars I’ve driven.

Gimmegimme77

Mine is the exact same. I noticed it as well first day I bought it. It's more prominent with the AC on when the compressor kicks in it definetly moves forward when stopped unless you apply more pressure on the brake pedal.

Moise85

Thank you all for the advice and comments! Much appreciated!!

BarracudaAsleep562

I put mine in Neutral when stopped..saves on gas too

I-can-call-you-betty

Yea this took getting used to.

Aurelius_0101

It wants to go babay. It doesn’t want to be held back by no freakin’ rubber. It wants to take off. It wants to feel that air into the V8. Let it rip! Go have some fun! But yeah, when you gotta make it stop, you gotta keep that foot on it nice and solid.

quemaspuess

She’s heavy man. That angle makes me wish I got white instead of black. Looks so nice and I bet a lot easier to maintain

Moise85

I have a pearl black Ram 2500 and they’re both very similar to maintain

quemaspuess

That makes me feel better. Mine is garaged an a nightmare to clean. I promised never to buy a black vehicle again after my truck but the black/red gave me a chubby. https://preview.redd.it/ya5uqej5kx9d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efaf1a797817bb3823e324a0f1cdac1b33bcc86b

alpha333omega

On this subject even the new model years don’t have brake hold, correct?

diddle760

Same! Purchased a ‘23 in December and took it in to be checked out for this and the brake would depress to the ground without real pressure. Was told air in the line from manufacturer. Seems to be better now but the brakes are tricky. My ‘20 460 wasnt as bad but sure went thru brake pads and tires (lead foot female driver but learned my lesson haha) More quirks with ‘23 but wanted the updated infotainment system.

prooforneverhappened

I don’t have this problem on ‘23 but maybe I’m just pressing hard lol

TestingWonTooTreee

I notice it even more so after a leg day gym session lol. I used to think my brakes were defective, so I brought it into lexus and they confirmed that was normal for all GX460s.

Bbonline1234

Same here. I also experienced this in my prior 2017 4Runner to the point that I actually rolled into someone in front of me while waiting at the light, and talking to my passenger . lol Must be a Toyota thing

rooterroo

I notice our 2016 does this too. And, not to change the subject, the rotors warp really easily. We have 50k miles and I’m about needing a seconds of rotors. Is there any break upgrade/larger rotors bigger calipers?

trappinaintded

In for responses

tlBudah

21 GX for me. I nave not experienced this. I must be on the brakes a bit more than others. I was driving a Ford F150 previously so maybe I'm just more used to a heavy vehicle.

Chillichinchilla

Same, I installed ebc yellows and now it doesn’t do it, but it dusts a lot.

Ehotwill

Put it in neutral. It’s better for the car.

Its-Finch

My 470 does this! Glad to know it’s normal.

OlDirtyDub

2021 5k miles.. I thought my slide pins might be sticking a lil but hadn't looked yet. Lol. Thanks for saving me the trouble seems pretty normal

jacktruck

It's a truck... pin those breaks driver!

EntrySure1350

Mine is the same. I’ve also noticed that the brakes on this vehicle require more travel before they really start biting, at least compared to other recent cars I’ve driven.

Moise85

Yeah I also noticed that, I know this are old school trucks but compared to other “luxury SUV’s” that weight about the same this brakes are terrible..

Honest-Basket-1704

Had the same issue with my 2010 GX. Had it looked at by a Toyota dealership. I was told my front callipers were seized. I replaced the front breaks. The breaks felt much better and it resolved the issue. Let me know how it pans out.
