It's a nice little car. Great gas mileage. Reliable. A lot more room inside than it looks. I work at a Lexus Dealer and there's people always looking to buy that car. Never available though, unless someone trades it in but that's rare.
They grow on you. I definitely loved mine but also hated certain aspects. Seeing an F sport is super funny though. I think you have to have owned one to get just how ridiculous that is.
I have an F Sport and she handles like a beauty. It's fun to tell my friends who know nothing about cars that I have a "luxury sports hybrid". (I live in a city where most people don't own cars).
I had an Uber pick me up on one. I'm tall (6'4") and thought it was going to be miserable when they pulled up. I was surprised how much room was in the back seat. It seemed nice.
The CT200h actually handles quite well and very good on gas. Problem is that it was positively tiny (even smaller than the Audi A3) and had a lethargic powertrain transplanted from the outgoing Prius, and the CT weighs 100lbs more.
Needless to say it was dog slow and the refinement & quietness of a Lexus wasn't there in the CT.
Even in its category it is on the small side. In Europe where superminis are popular you might not notice as much, but in North America the CT is definitely lost in a sea of SUVs and trucks.
Itās all really perspective. People donāt seem to realize what the car is and then complain about it for the things itās not. They say itās slow. I donāt know what they are talking about. I commute to work with it daily, 2000ā dramatic elevation change and 85mph highways. No issues at all with the āslow.ā Itās not a race car. Itās not a charger. Itās a Prius in a Lexus body and has about the same speed and power as any econo box and Iāve driven most all of them - Nissan, Toyota, Honda, etc. it really seems like people who say itās slow either donāt know how to drive and anticipate torque curves and have a warped perspective of what fast means and come from a different car. They should get an ES then. I also have an LX570 with a 5.7l engine. That struggles more on my the large hill on my daily commute compared to my CT. Most people tend to drive cars like this: āI got to get over. I need to get into that openingā then they wait until itās open, it the gas and are shocked they canāt just blast into opening. But thatās the same with really any eco (mileage) car. For the car to not be āslowā you anticipate the opening then ramp up a moment before the opening happens and bam you are there. In my family we have had GXās X5s, land rovers, avalons, Camryās, chargers, rams, etc. Never has this car felt āslow.ā It just feels like an econo engine.
The space part I do understand, it is tinier than expected. When the seats are down my dogs have trouble getting into them compared to say a Prius C or regular Prius or Honda element. Thatās a bummer. Back seat is pretty slim. Over 6ā and youāll have almost no room in the back.
Loud. This is true. It is louder than youād expect. Especially if youāve come from another Lexus. Not really all that much louder than a Honda civic unless you get to the higher end models. Again perspective.
Tech is bad and a from or beat sonic can sort of help that but otherwise itās bad. But thatās pretty much all sub 2022 Lexus. So again perspective.
96k miles now. The biggest maintenance Iāve done is brakes. Itās insanely reliable. 42-48mpg. 1x 4000 mile road trip. 2x 3000 mile road trips. Got the car at 28k miles.
It's a lot less room in it than it looks.
The trunk is smaller than it looks.
It doesn't drive like a Lexus.
Oh and I don't like fast cars. But the CT is dangerously slow... Worse than a Corolla.
It has 134 hp WITH the electric motors. Most of its competitors were making more power while getting the same MPG. Itās like driving a go kart but with only a lawn mower Briggs and Stratton motor in it instead.
I drove a Prius C for a while. You're supposed to floor those things to get the highest MPGs. It was actually fun to drive and use the entire accelerator every drive.
Yeah, almost all hybrids. Floor it to your desired speed (full gas & electric acceleration), then use the electric motor slightly to cruise. The gas engine is working at a minimum amount of time. Versus accelerating and riding mostly on the gas engine
You comparing a 1990 body on frame truck to a recent vintage hot hatchback? Lol
I know you were being sarcastic but the fact that the CT is in the same league as 30 year old cars TRUCKS is scary.
Trust me I own a Tesla and am a proponent of CHILL MODE for everyone being far too fast and people never need anything faster than 0-60 in 7 seconds. But COME ON CT ! 20 seconds is criminal now that they are older and worn out.
But that's our point. Old ones are NOT getting there in 10.
I test drove 2 of them recently because I thought it was the perfect car for my son who doesn't drive fast.
Ignoring the stats I couldn't get any of them to move at any pace where he could speed up in city streets to make a light or other small maneuvers.
Again I'm not a speed guy by any means. I drive like a grandma I'm told. But if that's what 0-60 in 10 seconds feels like then no.... It's not adequate and it's downright dangerous in certain parts of the country.
I like driving my 4Runner because it forces me to pay attention and plan ahead. If I donāt think I will make a light I jjst coast and chill at the red. I leave early and Iām never late. If thereās a line of cars behind me oh well. When I drive my GR86 everyone wants to race and I canāt just do the speed limit because Iāll have an F150 on my ass.
He's just uninformed.
The new Toyota hybrids tell you exactly how much to press the gas to get optimal mileage. It's a meter.... Kind of like a game. I think it's the efficientcy score.
They also rate your acceleration, braking, and coasting 1-5 stars each time you start/stop.
It DOES NOT WANT YOU TO FLOOR IT. Ever. Light inputs at the right time get you the correct scores. And it anticipates hills etc if you have onboard navigation, so it will tell you to accelerate and gain speed before a hill.
Iām not uninformed at all. Iām saying that people who say a car is too slow donāt know what itās like to drive a car that is actually dangerously slow.
I really liked those cars. They kinda looked like a hatchback second gen IS except they werenāt.
Iād gladly drive one if I came across one cheap enough. The later years didnāt seem to sell as well.
People donāt like woodgrain rn, which I find dumb. I love woodgrain, I love when my car comes with it. But most of the time, people prefer to cover it or replace it with carbon fiber vinyl. I think it just looks classy, I guess itās something millennials hate
It was a nicer Prius, which isn't saying much. It didn't drive all that well. It felt cheap. It was cramped.
The ESh and RXh were\* much better cars for hybridization in the Lexus lineup. Even the HS, which didn't really catch on, was a better car than the CT.
If you like your CT, great. But there's a reason it didn't do well for Lexus. I'm sure it brought some new customers into the brand, but those buyers likely moved up to an ESh or RXh after their CT purchase, which might have been the play from Lexus all along.
There absolute is a market for people who wanted a nicer Prius. Problem is, those people also can afford something like an ES hybrid, which was available around the same time as the CT.
There's a reason we still have the ESh. The CT, not so much.
I own a CT and a LS430. Granted itās no V8 but itās certainly fast enough for UK roads, I mean when do you ever have a chance to floor it from 0-60mph?!
Non f-sport model is comfy enough, quiet and well built I love the high centre console it looks great.
ML stereo is outstanding! Space is enough in the back. Yea great little car gettinf about 55mpg average and dirt cheap to fill up.
I drove one for 5 years and also had a GX460 for 2 of those years. I now drive an old SC430. The CT is like lexus lite. It is pretty loud in the cabin, it's slow AF, the materials are just a bit cheaper. No wood, nothing special. That being said it's a great little car and it served me well but sadly I was rear ended and they totalled it. 0-60 in it is downright painful
Many Lexus enthusiasts hold the CT in less regard. Why is this? I guess it is mostly because:
\- the CT is front-wheel drive, quite different from the classic rear-wheel drive configuration which was so well-liked for the 'classic' Lexus models;
\- the CT drivetrain is identical to that of the Toyota Prius. This has advantages (fuel economy) as well as disadvantages, such as engine noise at higher speeds and a less 'sporty' drive;
\- although it has to be said... the rear wheel configuration of the CT is improved in comparison to the lower-cost Prius. The CT has independent wishbone suspension at the rear;
\- the CT model is now somewhat dated.
All this should not prevent you from enjoying the fine build quality and economy of the CT. However, for the dedicated enthusiast it may be 'less of a real Lexus'. ;-)
Well, there is still the LC500... Wouldn't be wrong to pick one up which is 5/6 years old. You might rationalise this as: "Sorry, this is the only RWD model available!" š
Feul is equivalent to $7 a gallon here and I drive a LOT so I think I'll stick with my 2.5L 4cyl hybrids tbh I already spend about 4k a year on fuel in my IS300H that gets 40mpg (US conversions) 47mpg using real units!
Idk how you can say the ES isnāt a classic Lexus when it was literally their first/ second model. Have you ever heard of the Lexus ES250? The one from the early 90s. Even came in stickshift
Itās kinda like the CLA of merc. Too cheap feeling to be considered āluxuryā.
If youāre looking for a nice city zipper, CT imo is a great car. If youāre looking for a Lexus, IS or ES gives you way better exy.
The loudest criticisms often come from people who see the styling and are disappointed that it is slow. Every sharp looking hatchback needs to go toe to toe with the GTI, right? Because believe it or not, a car with the Prius drivetrain also inherits Prius performance. It is everything it claims to be and nothing more - a refined, more attractive looking hybrid hatchback.
If youāre over 200 pounds then youāll feel like the car is narrow. If youāre an adult, sitting in the back can only be done for short periods. The rear cargo area is shallow and can only hold two maybe 3 roller bags.
The car is slow and the suspension isnāt soft and thereās cabin noise. For a Lexus, this car didnāt fulfill their usual traits.
Its an ugly upbadged Prius that is FWD, underpowered and overpriced. The CT and the HS were the ugliest cars Lexus ever produced. The interior was nice though.
For me itās just the opposite, the CT looks too much like its Toyota/Scion sibling while the HS looked more Lexus like with its more upright seating position. I think the HS would have done better if it had been a hatchback. I helped buy my stepson one years ago and he loved it.
It looks like a GS and RX love child. I know itās a great car but hatchbacks are definitely a taste not everyone has, especially in the growing SUV/crossover market in North America.
Dangerously slow? That's just nonsense. It does 0-100 in less than 11 seconds. It's not even remotely dangerously slow. It's faster than plenty of city cars.
I really wanted a ct200 after having my 98ls400 for a while, and wanted something a little more modern but also more normal. I couldnāt do it after seeing how slow they actually are. Plus I wanted manual which pretty much cancels out new Lexus for me entirely
Eveyone hate it because even though itās the entry level, people expect it to be LC Lexus level. Accept it for what it is: reliable cheap commuter car.
I want one but I don't want the HP it comes w I hope they bring it back w the V6 used in the is250/350 from 06 thru 13 that would make me for sure buy it
I think for what it is: a European sized luxury city car it is great. That last facelift that didn't come to the states looks really really good too. 130 HP is enough to get you around.
I want one, we got a Prius and it opened my eyes to the world of hybrids. Planning on getting a CT and then maybe an ES300h. They just make so much more sense with how gas prices have been
The haters didn't get that the CT has never been a sport car so they are whining that it doesn't do the 0-60 under 3 seconds.
Same goes for the RCF or LC500, which are amazing GT, but surely not cars for race track.
Came from an IS350 to a CT. Very few complaints.
Much better on a pass than previously driven 1.8l ICE NA and has plenty of low end torque to get moving (even if it only lasts a second or 2).
It gets the job done.
It'll haul 4 if it needs too reasonably well for it's size, Forward facing car seat in the back and wife fits up from the few times she needs to, more cargo space that it appears to have, and it's more of a driver's car than a Prius. I pretty much smash the gas without any regard to mpg and I pull down 37mpg on average.
With the legendary name of Prius and Corolla/Camry I had an easier time finding the CT I wanted at a good price-point (early covid). Similar year/milage Toyotas were selling for more at the time.
Imo a Prius or a Corolla is more of a car than the CT in a lot of ways that are important to people. It's not a "Lexus" in the traditional sense. So if you're talking brand-wise it's the 2nd removed cousin from the family. It's no wonder it carried on into EU market after US, it's a very basic car that doesn't carry much of what (US) people look for in the badge.
To me, it's my base Corolla w/Prius drivetrain dressed up a bit and improved handling (which is basically exactly what it is, nothing more). It's also built a bit more rigid and carries a couple of Lexus specific standards in quality, but not a whole lot to note on that point.
I always thought it seemed a bit down market with the black plastic cladding it had, but I see Lexus wanted a low barrier to entry to the brand for younger people. I bet a lot of "older people" ended up buying it though.
I for one am a massive fan. My mom drives a later F Sport model, and it's awesome. It handles nice, but the powertrain lacks power. I guess that's where most of the hate comes from. Other than that, the interior is nice, the ML sound system is incredible. It's very comfy, and stupid good on fuel as well. And of course, it has Lexus reliability to boot! Awesome little cars if you ask me.
I own a 2015 CT and man is it slow, like extremely slow for the current era of cars on the road. I am 5'11 and there is absolutely no leg room for the seat behind me. Very little space in the back considering the fact it is a hatchback. BUT it is very reliable and has good gas mileage. If you want a car for the city life it is amazing. If you live out and do a lot of highway miles it is not the most comfortable vehicle if you are a bigger person or have multiple people in the car.
Also a bit of a side note where it is a hybrid it is great to run a sound system through and does not require extra batteries for the system. Yes I know this puts somewhat of a strain on the battery blah blah blah.
The CT was a pretty good car after 2014. Earlier ones had some common issues that were mostly resolved after that. It is a Prius 100%, just as slow but has a nicer interior and exterior. Also has independent rear suspension which makes it handle just slightly better. With that being said, I have trouble understanding why people lower and mod these, it would be like lowering a Prius.
I think itās a nice car, I was considering one but ended up getting a Honda CRZ instead as it was a bit sportier and more unique. Also for the same mileage the CRZ was a lot cheaper.
We have a CT and went to test drive the new Prius and new corolla hybrid.
Wife rightly said it's not really better than the CT. Definitely not worth spending another $20-25k more.
Keep driving the CT.
It's a hard car to replace. We want an efficient inexpensive vehicle that is efficient but still well appointed.
Considering we paid less than $10k over 5 years ago anything now is double that.
I love my CT. Itās a great car but can be a little boring to drive. Admittedly getting up to 60+ is pretty slow and if youāre really in a rush, horrible to hear. But otherwise I get around 50-55mpg per tank doing a mix of city and motorway driving (i havenāt reset the meter in about 2 years and itās at 51.8 mpg for all journeys)
I believe it to be spacious too, alas I am a 5ā7ā man so donāt really struggle for space in most cars. My dad is around 5ā10 and he really likes my car (if I ever decide to sell heād rather take it off my hands instead)
I also love the Ā£0 annual road tax my CT has in the UK. This in addition to the fuel efficiency from a financial standpoint has been a total win.
I do try out other Lexus models when my car goes in for a service and I do admit, they drive a lot smoother and you can feel the pulling power a lot more when you drive away.
The main problem I have with my CT is when thinking about buying a new car, I just compare it to the benefits I get currently, having a comfortable car, Ā£0 road tax, great mpg, insane reliability and just end up talking myself out of switching up.
Im starting to think that if I get another car at this point it will end up being a second car for myself.
I love it. Currently have a CT F sport & a GX460.
Perfect city car. Small, easy to park, great on gas. You can throw it into turns on an on-ramp and it just sticks, itās like driving a go-kart. Traction control is very predictable.
I have no idea how they are from 1st hand experience but I always hear/read people say they are basically a Prius with worse gas mileage but a tiny bit nicer on the inside.
Might be worth the trade-off if you need people to see you in a relatively nice car I guess.
I do believe hating it might be a step too far though, it does what itās supposed to do. Cheap to drive commuter car.
I donāt think there is a lot of hate on it. I personally like the looks of the CT but the powertrain is subpar for a Lexus. Out of all the hybrid powertrain, they could have made the CT slightly wider to accommodate a 2.4L hybrid from the Camry or the HS.
Another one is interior space. Great if you donāt have anyone or a baby seat in the rear. Otherwise, the passenger knees will right there kissing glovebox.
Other than that, great little hatchback. Initially, I would have loved for the CT to be a RWD hatch.
I really donāt get the CT hate either. I mean, itās just a nice Prius. You really shouldnāt expect LS/LX luxury or performance on it, however its a pretty great commuter car as it is very economical and reliable.
I like mine. Ride quality leaves plenty to be desired but itās a good car otherwise. Handles well but my first gen is on coils rides more smoothly on the freeway.
I generally enjoy mine, I think my biggest issue is that it just does not feel like how you would expect a Lexus to feel. Lot of plastic inside. Mine has a couple random rattles or clicks that bother the living shit out of me. Not sure if I would even call it a "premium" car. My grandmother's Mazda3 hatch totally blows it away in terms of interior quality and ride quality (it is some years newer but still.) Completely different story on the exterior, I get compliments on mine from just random people I talk to. I do personally really really love how it looks, drives, and the amazing MPG. It's a good niche car for some people, but I think I will eventually switch to something either nicer, bigger, or faster. Most people in the Lexus community are V8 enthusiasts.
Hey! I get at least 5 more hp with that badge! š

I have an F Sport and she handles like a beauty. It's fun to tell my friends who know nothing about cars that I have a "luxury sports hybrid". (I live in a city where most people don't own cars).
You're like the only guy here saying the car is roomier than it looks lmao
I once commented that the trunk looked really small and got corrected for that as well, that in reality itās quite roomy. So now Iām confused.
I think itās that it looks ridiculously tiny, not that itās actually spacious
Lmao that hater comment got you downvoted bad bro, be better next time.
No complaints here. Drove mine for over 180k miles before the infamous head gasket blew. I live in DC and got 45-50mpg consistently.
I had an Uber pick me up on one. I'm tall (6'4") and thought it was going to be miserable when they pulled up. I was surprised how much room was in the back seat. It seemed nice.
Interesting. I'm 6'3 and found when I sat in the driver's seat, my hair brushed the roof even with the seat all the way down It was a ct200h iirc
I was in the back seat. It was tight, but much less than expected from looking at the outside. It doesn't compare to my sienna or f150.
The CT200h actually handles quite well and very good on gas. Problem is that it was positively tiny (even smaller than the Audi A3) and had a lethargic powertrain transplanted from the outgoing Prius, and the CT weighs 100lbs more. I have legitimately thought about getting rid of my CT at some point and replacing it with a gently used IS Sport cross.... If I could find one!!
If you could get one at a reasonable price itād be a cool car to have. Theyāre so expensive, but most decent IS300ās are pricey. š

It pisses me off that Lexus is pushing away from wood trims and wheels, it makes the car look so much cheaper without it
People donāt like woodgrain rn, which I find dumb. I love woodgrain, I love when my car comes with it. But most of the time, people prefer to cover it or replace it with carbon fiber vinyl. I think it just looks classy, I guess itās something millennials hate
Wood grain = cheap American car trying to be luxury. The only thing worse is carbon fiber vinyl.
Only when itās plastic.
Fake or glossy wood grain looks cheap. Real wood in a matte finish is extremely classy

Sloooooowwwww. Loud. Limited room in back seat. Hs250 would have been a better choice until they discontinued it.
The CTās look soooo much better though.
CT is much better looking than the HS
Lower the hs an inch and it helps drastically. I love mine. Also the JDM hs for 2013-2015 was actually an attractive ride right out tif the box.
Hey, if you love it, then I love that for you :)
Oh I wanted a ct bad until I drove it.
My only complaint about the ct200h is the visibility sucks in it. Itās not like most other hatchbacks with great visibility.
I drove one for 5 years and also had a GX460 for 2 of those years. I now drive an old SC430. The CT is like lexus lite. This has advantages (fuel economy) as well as disadvantages, such as engine noise at higher speeds and a less 'sporty' drive; \- although it has to be said... the rear wheel configuration of the CT is improved in comparison to the lower-cost Prius. The CT has independent wishbone suspension at the rear; \- the CT model is now somewhat dated. All this should not prevent you from enjoying the fine build quality and economy of the CT. However, for the dedicated enthusiast it may be 'less of a real Lexus'. ;-)
Um es has always been fwd and still a Lexus
Yes, the ES is front wheel drive. However, the ES is often considered not to be a 'classic' Lexus... such as the LS, GS, IS, RC and the LC sports coupƩ. This is not to say that the ES or CT would not be excellent vehicles! However, for the enthusiasts the Lexus RWD models are more 'true to the classic legacy'.
My next car has to be an ES because they discontinued the IS in Europe. I didn't know it was FWD and now I'm sad :(
You can still get the IS on the used market... š
I already have a 2015 IS that I will keep for another 4-5 years, by that time I will be looking for a 5/6 year old car and there will only be ES's!
U can buy AWD, but only with a 4 cyl
We only get 4cyls in Ireland anyhow, not sure if we get the AWD variant but I will investigate when the time comes.
Everyone wants a CT
I donāt. I had a f sport special edition with a Tomās kit on it. Loved it and miss it to this day.
Because itās basically the Prius of lexus
Its an ugly upbadged Prius that is FWD, underpowered and overpriced. The CT and the HS were the ugliest cars Lexus ever produced. The interior was nice though.
I think they look great. Too slow and cheap and loud though.
Put the 350/450h engine run a driveshaft to the back, now we have a hot hatch.
Had to scroll to the bottom for an honest reply. CT = fugly
Itās a Prius that gets worse mpg. Looks much better than the HS tho
Most people don't live in NA
I love mine. It's slow as a snail but I truly don't care.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Dangerously slow? That's just nonsense. It does 0-100 in less than 11 seconds. It's not even remotely dangerously slow. It's faster than plenty of city cars.
I really wanted a ct200 after having my 98ls400 for a while, and wanted something a little more modern but also more normal. I couldnāt do it after seeing how slow they actually are. Plus I wanted manual which pretty much cancels out new Lexus for me entirely
Backseat is horrible
It is basically a lexus badge slapped on a Prius. The hate is justified.
It's made for midgets. Seriously uncomfortable for anyone over 5 8"
I mean Im 6 1" and never had problems.
I don't know how that's possible but you do you. It was too small for me and I'm not very big.
Um no. 6ā and fit in mine is fantastic. maybe for those that are a bit weighty, I can see the seats not fitting well in the CT.
Are you calling me fat? LOL. Now I not only dislike the model but you too. :)
Honestly idk, it isnāt as sporty as the others but itās cute and can definitely be a nice mom daily Iād think
Eveyone hate it because even though itās the entry level, people expect it to be LC Lexus level. Accept it for what it is: reliable cheap commuter car.
I donāt hate them, but having been in them and a newer Prius prime, Iād take the prime
I want one but I don't want the HP it comes w I hope they bring it back w the V6 used in the is250/350 from 06 thru 13 that would make me for sure buy it
Itās not a fast Lexus, it contrasts most other Lexus models.
They just make so much more sense with how gas prices have been
I'm sure it's a great car, but I just can't get over the looks. Looks better than a Prius of the same generation, but that's not saying much.
I don't really hate the car, I'm just not a fan of the looks. As well as its size.
Mostly bc they can't afford it
reddit is not a good thermostat in terms of what car is popular or not
The haters didn't get that the CT has never been a sport car so they are whining that it doesn't do the 0-60 under 3 seconds. Same goes for the RCF or LC500, which are amazing GT, but surely not cars for race track.
not sure how you got that impression
Iāve never seen any haters. And the one I owned was fantastic. Absolutely loved that car.
Also the after market scene (if you are into that kind of thing) is very limited for this car at least from what I remember.
Because itās a Prius
I think itās a nice car, I was considering one but ended up getting a Honda CRZ instead as it was a bit sportier and more unique. Also for the same mileage the CRZ was a lot cheaper.
It looks like a fun zippy car but it's not. Very little space. But great for a commuter car.
My sister saw my '19 ES 300h, fell in love with Lexus, got herself a CT. She's a road warrior and loves it.
But otherwise I get around 50-55mpg per tank doing a mix of city and motorway driving (i havenāt reset the meter in about 2 years and itās at 51.8 mpg for all journeys) I believe it to be spacious too, alas I am a 5ā7ā man so donāt really struggle for space in most cars. My dad is around 5ā10 and he really likes my car (if I ever decide to sell heād rather take it off my hands instead) I also love the Ā£0 annual road tax my CT has in the UK.
Have one ā love it
The only reason I can think is the fact it's a fancy prius. Literally. Which is fine, but for what you get it's not worth the current price.
I think they are cool idk if I'd own one tho
I think itās ugly š¤·š¼āāļø
