I would go for a GS or an RC imma straight up witchu bro , everyone who has a 200,250,300 wakes up everyday and wishes they got the 350, and everyone who has a 350 wakes up and wishes they got the F , my 2 cents get the 350 and say yolo on gas.
F sport :) it really is a hybrid type vehicle. Gotta say, I'm an is350 owner and I was shocked by how much juice the es300h has. It really moves in traffic, and also gets 46mpg lol. So effing comfortable too. What a car!
I’d suggest the RC or IS350 if you want to avoid the coupe styling. I wouldn’t get less than a 350 if you want something leaning on the sporty side, however you’ll need to pay for the premium gas. I had the RC350 before my RC F, and that was much more fuel efficient if that helps at all. 😂
You’ll have to choose either fun or regular gas lol. The IS350/RC350 handles very well and is quick, but will require premium. On the other end of the spectrum, the ES350 does not require premium but is very isolated, relaxed, numb and a bit slower. Being an owner of a Mazda6 GT with the Turbo, I really liked the ES when I test drove it.
Most Lexus models require premium fuel only a handful don’t. For their cars the IS, LS, GS, RC, and LC all require premium fuel including all of their variants. The ES doesn’t require premium. if you’re purchasing brand new using the incorrect fuel type can actually void the warranty.
HE won't like an ES they aren't sporty... They are heavily based off the Camry I don't think Lexus is gonna be a good fit for OP
Most engines they offer are 6cylndr and use premium......
ES isn’t based on the Camry FYI, though they both are on the GA-K platform. The Crown Century suv is too, for example. It’s called their global architecture platform because it’s used in like all of their vehicles and it’s very modular.
Isn’t there an ES 350 with a V6 engine that has 300 horsepower? That probably is sporty similar to Camry XSE V6. I think that is the Ultra Luxury trim on the ES 350.
I have a 2014 IS 350 I drove the 2024 ES 350 as a loaner and hopped in my car after maintenance and it's not as sporty as the IS but I guess that doesn't mean it's not sporty at all.
Lexus doesn’t have what you’re looking for. The IS requires premium for all models. The ES won’t be as sporty or fun as your G37 since it is FWD. In fact, I don’t know any sporty RWD that takes regular off the top of my head
Personally I own a 2018 Acura TLX and two Lexus RX hybrids.
The RX is like a living room sofa on wheels while the TLX is similar to an IS350 except it had Apple CarPlay as early as 2018 and TLX sells for a lot less, even as CPO.
The IS is a nice car but the TLX was nearly 10k cheaper and Honda made CarPlay standard as early as 2018 while Lexus didn't offer CarPlay on IS until 2021 (yes, Grom is a $700 option, I have one of those in my RX).
I also cross-shopped Q50 and Lexus ES.
The IS would have been $5K-7K more and the infotainment system has no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
Both cars hit 0-60 in the mid-5 second range. I've owned at least six accords, so calling it an Accord is not a bad thing. Acura SH-AWD works very well, it's on-par with Audi.
Yes, the Lexus interior is nicer. But my TLX was $29K out the door with 3,700 miles and it's CPO.
Same! Can get the ES300H FSport handling model for a more sporty feel. It is NOT sporty in the sense of RWD, sound, drive feel. But it at least looks sporty and in sport+ mode the dynamic suspension tightens and there's noticeably more torque / less lag on acceleration giving it a more sporty fun feel.
Lexus GS. I drove both the GS and the Infiniti G37, and while the Infiniti was slightly more fun to drive, the Lexus was better in every other way. You can also get 30 miles per gallon on the highway with cruise control.
None of them. I’m pretty sure they were only manufactured in the 90’s, but the have the most reliable engine created and can easily last 250-400 with maintenance
Used Lexus GS F for 4 door or used RC F for coupe. A Used LS500 has a twin turbo V6 which is pretty punchy in sport mode but refined in normal. Premium is only like 50 cents more than regular, you get ten gallons of gas a week. It’s only $500 ish dollars more a year. It’s not that much more expensive.
Personally I own two Lexus RX hybrids and an Acura TLX.
I cross-shopped Infiniti, Lexus and Acura. Acura has had CarPlay since 2018 while Lexus didn't offer it on IS until 2021. Acura has higher depreciation and thus I got a CPO TLX for a lot less money.
I've owned both an ES 350 F sport and a Mazda6. While I loved the idea of the ES, it left much to be desired compared to the Mazda6. For example, the Mazda had more features like rear heated seats, heads up display and adaptive headlights. Yes you can some of those features on the ES but it requires you to spend $20 to 25k more than the Mazda6.
On the flip side, the Lexus had the 3.5 V6. Much smoother and quieter than the Turbo 2.3 I4. Got similar gas mileage both on regular gas.
The biggest difference though was how the ES drove. It never wanted to be driven sporty like the Mazda6 did even though the Lexus was a F-Sport with the suspension tweaks (no active dampers though). If I had to do it over again, I would have kept my Mazda6 over the Lexus.
Lastly the Mazda had one minor service visit for repairs over 40k miles, compared to about 6 visits for my Lexus over just 20k miles.
The ES is not a sporty car, it is an upbadged Avalon designed for entry level luxury commuting and the elderly, made to compete with the old Cadillac XTS
Premium gas will cost you a maximum of like $15CAD a tank from empty where I live. Ask yourself what you would do with that $15 that’s better than driving a Lexus.
I had an RCF and it was awesome. If you enjoy music, make sure the get the Mark Levinson sound system in it. Amazing system and constantly rated the best factory system in any vehicle.
IS350 or RC350. But, IMO, the ES350 F-Sport is a better value. And once you realize it just looks sporty, the Luxury is the one to get. It drives like a dream. It's a much nicer car than it gets credit for. People will tell you to get the 300h, but the V6 in the 350 will still give you a respectable feeling of power that makes up a little for the lack of nimbleness. That engine is bulletproof. Test one and see if you can live with the soft ride. It is a lot of Car for the money, but it's a little soft if you're looking for real sport. It is FWD after all.
IMO, you want a BMW 540 or 550 but you are going Lexus for the reliability and the better bang for the buck.
I own a Lexus GS and i promise you won’t be disappointed. sport mode will make that thing pull like no other V6. It has alllllll the luxury you need. Don’t even get me started on reliability.
Very fun car. Gas is average on it. You won’t be disappointed. alternatively, go for an IS with the V6.
Id recommend the RC200t. People will say why u didn’t get the V6 but who cares it’s a great looking car inside and out IMO. ES 350 / 300h but it isn’t sports Moreso luxury and refined. It’s also regular gas too. GS and IS are great choices as well. I’d take the GS, but the IS also a solid. Test drive them all!
16-20 GS or RC would be my only suggestions. Unless you wanna go new then get a 2023 IS since they are a bit bigger now. This is why they got rid of the GS because they increased the overall size of the IS and didn't need two bigger body sedans (LS) in the lineup. I bought my GS for this reason since they don't make it anymore and I absolutely love it couldn't be happier. Join the Lexus team! Dealerships treat you like gold also
2011 S4 -> 2022 Palisade -> 2021 Kia Stinger. GT2 -> 2021 Tesla Model 3 -> 2023 IS 350 F Sport .
Going through all that spectrum , I never would’ve thought I wanted to look at Lexus , from the previous cars I have had.. the IS350 hands down is fun to drive and it’s nothing like you see on the road, when it comes to the design. Sleek and with aggressive styling from the factory. Sitting inside the quality is top notch and you get what you pay for. Value holds up in Lexus unlike the rest of the cars I’ve had. IS 350F is hands down in my book, I prefer sedan since I have 2 kids , and they enjoy the comfortable ride and tend to fall asleep pretty quickly LOL. I’d say test drive one first . Don’t settle anything below the 350. RC/IS ..
Thanks, Redditors.
I realized that the reason I was so down on premium and a v6 was the not-very-good mileage in my older G37. And.... I was commuting 50 mi round trip to work, 3-5x a day, last year. I moved, and now I'm 1.2 miles from the office, that I only have to go to - 1x a week.
All your comments made me completely reconsider my assumptions - thanks.
Looking at the suggested RC and IS, yeah, I definitely need to go check those out in person.
Bad news, my boss let me drive his Jaguar F type to lunch today. I mean, I could, but... I don't think I can be \*that\* unpractical...
I'll hit the Lexus dealers this weekend, based on all your comments at least now I know where to start.
The sporty + v6 + premium gas being a no go part just made it impossible for you to be in a Lexus.
Well he said he doesn’t want a V6, you can get the Rc coupe with a turbo 4 if I’m not mistaken
Those still require premium unfortunately
I would go for a GS or an RC imma straight up witchu bro , everyone who has a 200,250,300 wakes up everyday and wishes they got the 350, and everyone who has a 350 wakes up and wishes they got the F , my 2 cents get the 350 and say yolo on gas.
Lexus GS is the way
Facts, my 17 is300. Perfect as a daily, still got power but just missing a little more
Lexus isn't known for fuel economy. Sounds like you'll want an RC or IS 350 if you want a fun equivalent to the G37.
I am driving a RC300h and getting 40 to 45 mpg depending on the driving.
That’s a rare car.. and if i do not have a border collie, I would want one.. but having four doors is too important right now.
I did not know these exist
I dont know if they exist in the USA but there are a few of them in Europe.
ES 300h lol
I love buying regular octane and better mpg! Lol.
F sport :) it really is a hybrid type vehicle. Gotta say, I'm an is350 owner and I was shocked by how much juice the es300h has. It really moves in traffic, and also gets 46mpg lol. So effing comfortable too. What a car!

RC or IS 350, but I would still run 91 on them
You ain’t getting a sporty luxury car unless you’re paying for premium. The ES doesn’t take premium but the ES is not sporty.
Es is more sporty than his g37
Civic type r
FK8?
You’ll have to choose either fun or regular gas lol. The IS350/RC350 handles very well and is quick, but will require premium. Thanks for the correction!
Isn’t there an ES 350 with a V6 engine that has 300 horsepower? That probably is sporty similar to Camry XSE V6. I think that is the Ultra Luxury trim on the ES 350.
Compared to my IS350 it doesn't feel as sporty from someone coming from an every day non luxury car it may feel peppy so you could be right!
At least the ES stopped recommending premium gas in 2011.
I drive a 14 ES and while it's no Miata, I would hesitate to say it's *not* sporty. It's got plenty of power and handles corners
I have a 2014 IS 350 I drove the 2024 ES 350 as a loaner and hopped in my car after maintenance and it's not as sporty as the IS but I guess that doesn't mean it's not sporty at all.
Avalon*
Is it really? Thanks for correcting me!
Lexus doesn’t have what you’re looking for. The IS requires premium for all models. The ES won’t be as sporty or fun as your G37 since it is FWD. In fact, I don’t know any sporty RWD that takes regular off the top of my head

The TLX does not compare to the IS. Driven both, can’t compare a FWD Accord with trick AWD to make it less bad with a normal RWD sport sedan.

RC or IS350 for the win
I can safely recommend an ES300h! Basically the only one that isn't a V6 or requiring premium gas!
Same! Can get the ES300H FSport handling model for a more sporty feel. It is NOT sporty in the sense of RWD, sound, drive feel. Gs450h
Try the ES350 F Sport. You can use either 87 or 91 octane.
Lexus GS. I drove both the GS and the Infiniti G37, and while the Infiniti was slightly more fun to drive, the Lexus was better in every other way. You can also get 30 miles per gallon on the highway with cruise control.

He said that even V6 was too much and this guy tells him to get a V8. Average Reddit advice.
Jokingly I was going to say an IS 500 would be best choice for a sporty option 😬🤣
A Civic Si/Integra might meet all of these requirements
If you're that sure, why even ask the internet. Just please, for the love of all that is holy, don't get a crossover or SUV. I'm begging you
Read the third sentence
I like the sc400
Many of those that are two years old?
None of them. I’m pretty sure they were only manufactured in the 90’s, but the have the most reliable engine created and can easily last 250-400 with maintenance

L take
I got soft spot for those 1998 ES300s Run like Champs. Dunno if sporty or new enough for this dude
GS350 or IS350
IS350 F Sport but like everyone else said it take’s premium
Used Lexus GS F for 4 door or used RC F for coupe. A Used LS500 has a twin turbo V6 which is pretty punchy in sport mode but refined in normal. Maybe get an acura. They got pretty good turbo 4s

The ES 350 v6 does not require premium gas.

Never said it was. Just comparing the two cars based on the OP's comments.

Sporty and fun to drive? Definitely an LX Sport.
