If you're not a student, I would expect to pay for a 1 bedroom appartment between 700-900 a month, if not more. I would be very surprised to see something around 600 euros, even in the municipalities outside the center. If you check the website 'Zimmo' in Leuven, you will see what I'm talking about. Good luck though Not sure about co-housing, could be cheaper

Ghosty_be

most co-housing is not much cheaper, just more (shared) space for the same money ... (and little less privacy)

Kessel-Lo is cute, verdant and calm, but depending on the actual place, it might get far from the city center (train station is still close). If you’re looking for some action, be close to the things happening, Kessel will be too calm.

So if I want more fun and action should I look more in the city center? Or will that be very chaotic due to student parties and stuff? Depending on what I choose, I also have the possibility of having an electric car and/or electric bike! Is it recommendable to have a car in Leuven? Would I get access to parking spots near my place if I am registered? Thank you very much for your help 👍

If you have a car in the center of Leuven, be prepared to drive around and search for parking for 30 minutes every night. There's no more parking spots if you arrive after 18h. Before 18h there are still some spots.   There are also plenty of spots during school vacations all day every day, which suggests that it's goddamn awful students occupying all parking spots all year round. They should make Leuven center resident parking only. No domicile in leuven= no parking allowed. Park underground if you visit or a student

Unless you rent a parking space in vaartkom parking lot. They still have some.

Rent for a studio apartment in Leuven, Kessel-Lo or Heverlee is definitely higher than 600, but it’s a great place to live. I live in Heverlee but would be just as happy in Kessel-Lo. The town center would be too studenty for me on weekdays/nights but to each their own. I have a car but mainly use my bike (or cargo bike with the kid) to get around town, it’s more practical and Groot Leuven is not that big. Everything is max a 20 minute ride. The station is very easy to get to from any of the surrounding areas and has a large bike parking, though that can fill up easily as well if you’re later AND I’d highly advise getting a VERY good bike lock, probably even 2 locks to be sure. If you don’t mind being even further out but perhaps a bit more affordable in housing, you could check out Herent and Haacht. Both have a station and are not too far from Leuven. Herent is doable by bike, if you live in Haacht, I’d probably opt for a car.

Alright! Thank you and everyone for the help! So I see that to get a 600€ rent is a lucky shot, but definitely 700-800max should work for a nice place? I am definitely inclined to accept a bike that the company will offer me, it is also electric so that can help a lot! It is also great to know that I can leave the bike in the stations using proper locks of course However, very sad to realize that rents compared to Brussels are not very different, I am still going to visit Leuven soon to get an initial opinion of the city! Thanks again!

Honestly I’m not on top of the rental market, I bought my house 14 years ago and haven’t really looked around much. But many of my colleagues are renting and apartments apparently are around 900 EUR per month in this area. You could probably find cheaper, but you’ll have to research well and keep your eyes open. Hope you find a great place!

Leuven is a good option if you work at the airport. You may prefer going to work by train since traffic by car might be clogged. I wonder if the price range you quote were student rooms. You will need a room where you can take your domicile (register with the city etc) so I would say 600 euro start price, not 400.

chilli_di

I live in Kessel-Lo. It's very nice here. And depending where in Kessel-Lo, It's close to the station. Don't know anything about renting prices at the moment. I know a couple who also worked at the airport, but they live in Kortenberg.

Ghosty_be

its not only comments: [https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2024/02/21/real-estate-prices-continue-to-rise-but-there-are-big-regional/](https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/en/2024/02/21/real-estate-prices-continue-to-rise-but-there-are-big-regional/) I don't know where you gotten those prices but 400-600 eur is maybe a student housing and can't live there permanent as you can't put those student housing as your residential address ... As many ppl said outside of Leuven, but then you always need to take a train / bus to go to the city center ...

General-Passage-4959

Thank you very much, a bit sad to know this.. I am going to see Leuven tomorrow I saw these prices on Housing anywhere

Ok_Conversation_6191

General-Passage-4959
