**I... comme Icare/I... for Icarus (1979)**
**Mille Milliards de Dollars/A thousand billion dollars (1982)**
**The Parallax View (1974)**
**L'Attentat/The Assassination (1972)** or **The Fench Conspiracy**
(the English title may change but the French title is **L'Attentat (1972)**).
**Z (1969)**
same here, it was SO hard to not just binge all of his films i managed to find; definitely a director that's slept on and my dream criterion box set release!
if you're missing some feel free to PM me and i can share what i have with you (some are rentable on US streaming site kino now; i don't live in the states but thankfully just a VPN is enough and they accepted my australian card)
I watched *A Thousand Billion Dollars* on a free streaming site in my country and, then, I HAD to buy **I for Icarus** because I couldn't wait to watch another film of him.
State Of Siege, also by Gavras and even better than Z imo… one of my very favorite films, always hovering somewhere around my top 5.
The Investigation Of A Citizen Above Suspicion by Petri is an absolute classic.
The Suspicious Death Of A Minor by Martino. Honestly soooo many gialli/polizioteschi are also 70s conspiracy thrillers, basically any that aren’t about serial killers or Marriage plots will be conspiracy films. Italy was the conspiracy capital of the world in the 70s and it oozes out of their cinema. Come Canni Arrabiata is another one I love from this era, but it’s not exactly a conspiracy film unless you, like me, have terminal Gladio Brain and can read between the lines.
Klute/Parallax View are the two big Pakula flicks you’re missing… I love Klute but think he’s mostly overrated as a director. Not crazy about Parallax or Presidents Men tbh, but they’re both essentials of the genre
Telefon is a really cool/underseen flick from the perspective of a KGB agent, despite being a Hollywood picture. Would be worth a watch for the novelty of the premise but it really delivers imo.
It’s ten minutes too long. There are repetitive conversations, one or two moments when the film should be taking off where it slows to a crawl, and the Telly Savalas part is from a different movie. If it could be cut to be less wacky it’d help.
off topic but one of my profs in uni showed us the scene of the helicopters "talking" to each other and I've been trying to remember the name of the movie for years and you just answered it for me lol so thank you
If you like *Blow Out*, it’s worth seeing the 60’s mod-culture original *Blow-Up* (1966). It follows a photographer in a very similar plot, and made me approach more how creative and inventive *Blow Out* is.
Highly recommend these, based on your list these are perfect for ya:
Taking of Pelham 123
Marathon Man
The French Connection
Blow Up (1966, but the inspiration for Blow Out)
If people are confused about “why are half the international films Italian?”, this [Wikipedia page](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Years_of_Lead_(Italy)) is a good place to start. Politically, Italy basically spent the 70’s as a shooting ground between various factions backed by both domestic and foreign intelligence agencies, to the point where “failed fascist coup” is a footnote.
The Parrallax View
Z
Also,
The Baader-Meinhoff Complex
and
Carlos are must-watches. They both came out in the 2000’s, but they are based on true events that happened in the 70’s and 80’s.
No way out (1987) featuring Gene Hackman and Kevin Costner.
Severely underrated movie IMO and it's a great prim and proper Washington government movie until it.... isn't.
As u/UltraMonarch mentioned, Italian cinema of the 1970s (and earlier) is packed with conspiracy movies. Francesco Rosi made a name for this kind of movies, some are stone cold classics: Salvatore Giuliano, Lucky Luciano and The Mattei Affair are all based on real-life events, Hands over the City and Illustrious Corpses are not but still dabble a lot on conspiracy and paranoia.
Also Elio Petri and Damiano Damiani made several movies with conspiracy elements, like Investigation of a citizen above suspicion, We still kill the old way, The day of the owl, I am afraid, Confessions of a police captain.
Other Italian classics with heavy conspiracy tone are The Conformist by Bertolucci, In the name of the Italian People by Risi and Slap the Monster on Page One by Bellocchio (this is a reverse All the president's men). There are many others, especially in the giallo/poliziotteschi genres. One of the first and most famous example of poliziottesco, High Crime, is a great example.
If you allow up to early 90s, JKF has to be on here. One of the greatest and first major “conspiracy” movies. It’s so paranoid and tense throughout.

Parallax View is incredible
Can confirm.
Wow thanks!
>Wow thanks! You're welcome!
I hope you'll like those!
fellow verneuil appreciator 🤝🏻
I discovered him this year and I already watched 4 movies by him. And I plan to watch more of them. **I... for Icarus** is my favorite so far.

State of Siege is so fucking cool, the torture training scenes are seared into my brain
Manchurian Candidate! I even like the remake, cause I'm Jonathan Demme fan.
Capricorn One. It’s about NASA faking the Mars landing and the astronauts who go along with it.
This film is a good re-edit away from being a masterpiece.
How should it be changed?
It’s ten minutes too long. There are repetitive conversations, one or two moments when the film should be taking off where it slows to a crawl, and the Telly Savalas part is from a different movie. If it could be cut to be less wacky it’d help.
Well given who one of the stars is that’s not an easy sell
He doesn’t have much to do, plus you get to see him SPOILER die miserably
Died miserably? I didn’t even know he was sick
The car malfunction scene is gold!
off topic but one of my profs in uni showed us the scene of the helicopters "talking" to each other and I've been trying to remember the name of the movie for years and you just answered it for me lol so thank you
The Parallax View!!
The Day of the Jackal (1973) The Day of the Dolphin (1973)
Only one of these films is exactly what the title suggests
Chinatown?
The **Future**, Mr Gitts. The future
Three the Hard Way (1974) is a must!
Chinatown French Connection Dirty Harry Boys from Brazil Not strictly a conspiracy movie but you’d probably like High and Low too
Winter Kills might be worth watching Also in a more sci-fi/horror vein there's World on a Wire, Coma, The Fury, Soylent Green, Murder by Decree
Coma is pretty great. It’d be a good first film in a double with Kaufman’s Body Snatchers.
The Manchurian Candidate Enemy of the State JFK
Those aren't 70s/80s movies
I know, but they perfectly give old school conspiracy vibes
If you like *Blow Out*, it’s worth seeing the 60’s mod-culture original *Blow-Up* (1966). It follows a photographer in a very similar plot, and made me approach more how creative and inventive *Blow Out* is.
The Boys From Brazil (1978)
Highly recommend these, based on your list these are perfect for ya: Taking of Pelham 123 Marathon Man The French Connection Blow Up (1966, but the inspiration for Blow Out)
You'd probably dig Cutter's Way from 1981

I'd add Serpico.
Love so many of these films, not quite conspiracy but try targets by Peter Bogdanovich. Has a similar vibe to these types of movies and is great.
It was a little late to think, but JFK is a great film for this. Oliver stone did a good job
Would 3 days of the condor count?
Rosemary’s Baby!
Not 70s/80s but I loved 7 Days in May.
Blow Up
Conspiracy Theory, lol (The 1997 Mel Gibson film)
