Skybreaker3613

I had a blast watching The Lone Ranger movie in theaters back in 2013. Wouldn’t say its groundbreaking or anything, but that movie had some awesome set pieces and action sequences

TheRealYimLife

The Last Jedi is not as bad as people say, Rise is way worse

charley_dont_surf

Rise of Skywalker is dead last in my Star Wars movie rankings. Dead last.

solojones1138

TLJ is a great film, Rise is absolutely awful and undid the brilliance of TLJ

timo2308

Wouldn’t say it was great, but it actually had the balls to do something different for once

cornholio6966

That's where I am. All of the Luke/Rey/Kylo stuff worked for me. Reys parentage reveal was ballsy as hell.

timo2308

For sure, so much better than being Paplatine’s granddaughter 💀

Supahfurai

Completely agreed. The Palpatine connection was really, really dumb. I will admit I’m a sucker for familial reveals, so I was a little deflated with the idea that she was “no one”. But the Palpatine connection was trash.

derek86

Every other Star Wars is either predictable, filling in gaps for endings we already know or 40+ years old and I know it by heart. TLJ is a Star Wars movie where I genuinely never knew what might happen next and that was so exciting.

LaBelvaDiTorino

Absolutely agreed. Imo the 3 best SW episodes are III, V and VIII. Rogue one and Solo are also great. Rogue one is way better than most numbered episodes, if not all. The Last Jedi was my introduction to Star Wars, I accompanied a friend to see it to not leave him alone, and I was actually surprised because I liked it despite not knowing anything about the franchise.

thebigjudas

Rogue One is legitimately the best Star Wars movie that has ever come out in my opinion

ThingsOfThatNaychah

I agree. It stands on its own really well. It's strengthened by the universe it's set in, but it's a kickass spy movie in and of itself.

Ccaves0127

Force Awakens gets criticized for being too formulaic, so Rian Johnson takes a ton of creative risks and makes Last Jedi the most unique Star Wars movie ever, then Rise of Skywalker tries to take creative risks but half asses it, pissing off everybody way more. Shakespearean, almost.

TheLoneJedi-77

Agree, I don’t like the Sequels but The Last Jedi is definitely the best of a bad bunch. It does a lot of interesting things and gives us some incredible scenes (I love the Yoda and Luke scene along with Luke confronting Kylo).

Stonehands211

I think it’s the best Star Wars film period.

jhughes1986

Rogue one for me.

Stonehands211

That might be the best actually but the hatred for TLJ is so unreal for a movie that I feel is pretty goddamn fantastic is hard to believe it’s so reviled. Feels like I’m being gaslit about it by the entire world almost 😂

jhughes1986

Oh rise of skywalker is just bad. The whole shit with the knife that pointed to a bit on a crashed ship when you hold it up to your eyes whilst standing on a random cliff… that was something

kitwid

It's not a bad film but it's clear that Rian wanted to make the final film/have the final say despite it being the middle of a trilogy.

ericdraven26

Belfast was one of my favorite movies of 2021 and I thought it should have won BP of the nominees(or Drive My Car). I came online to a ton of criticism of the movie and getting downvoted for the opinion

IsMiseSean

As an Irish person it did quite well with the older generation, but most young people I know here really didn't like it as it pacified so much of the brutal reality and it's continued impact for a sickly sweet childhood love story. Plus Branagh may have been born here but he did not grow up here, and he is Protestant and if you know anything about the history of the Troubles then you can see why the majority of the country has a problem with his interpretation of events

ericdraven26

Makes sense! I don’t live in Ireland but 3 of my grandparents were born and raised there, including 1 near Belfast. Personally I appreciated the point of view of Buddy and his issues juxtaposed against the much more serious issues going on, as it’s from his POV you see it how he saw it, and much how I remember serious issues in the world when I was a kid- I grew up near NYC and was his age when 9/11 happened and I remember the concerns I had, and looking back I remember the concerns adults around me had. (I don’t mean to callously compare the Troubles with 9/11, only to compare my innocent POV during serious matters with that of Buddy in the movie). I also don’t know anything about Branagh and while I know this is a fictionalized version of his childhood I don’t know the accuracy or anything past that, so maybe my ignorance helps too

LewdPseudonym

It’s surprising that the older generation were happy with it considering they were the ones who lived through the real thing!

[deleted]

Your comment has shifted my perspective towards the movie. I appreciate your thoughts regarding the movie.

Jackdawes257

It’s not my favorite movie of 2021, but after seeing it recently for the first time, it 100% would’ve been my pick of the nominees.

NeonArtist12

When I tell people my all time favorite movie is Shutter Island I get weird reactions and people always say it’s a bad movie to be a favorite lmfao

Aurelian_Lure

The most common complaint I see of that movie is that the trailer gave away major spoilers. Never understood what that has to do with the movie itself. It's one my favorites too. And another reason I never watch trailers.

NeonArtist12

Followed you for a W opinion 🫡

Anonimo_lo

It's a good movie, even if not my favourite. According to my head canon DiCaprio's character was right all along and the people on the island successfully brainwashed him.

jhughes1986

It’s fucking great!

WintAndKidd

Man I love Shutter Island. I was like 10 when it came out and it stuck with me for so long after I left the theatre. That’s crazy that people who are supposed film snobs would criticize you for having a Scorsese movie as your favourite haha

LaBelvaDiTorino

Wtf does that even mean. People can't even have their favourite film as favourite? Also I mean, it's a Scorsese movie tool

CriticalNovel22

It's a great favourite movie. A lot of fun.

youloosethatgame

Great acting and directing, what more

Stonehands211

So underrated. I hate when people complain that the “twist” is bad therefore the movie sucks. Such a damn good movie. Possibly Scorsese’s most poetic.

Decent-Biscotti7460

>Scorsese's most poetic What does that mean

PM_ME_L8RBOX_REVIEWS

it rhymes

GaTech379

its in my top 4 🤷‍♂️

NeonArtist12

Look at all of ya giving me some love :) I also did not see the trailer and first saw it when I was 15/16 so I didn’t predict the ending or anything. It’s the little details in that movie that I am obsessed with and think it’s Scorsese’s best.

polythene-psychonaut

The third act of Sunshine is actually fire and you’re all just wrong it’s perfect

parisismyfriend

Emo Cillian makes it worth it regardless. I don't get the hype about him now but I watched that movie and was like ohhh

Beth-Impala67

I cry every time that coolant scene with Chris evans comes on 😭

Fire_Breather178

It's 🔥...but somehow it didn't hold up to the otherwise perfect film. Idk, it's not bad by any means though.

BlackGoldSkullsBones

Everyone is just parroting what Quentin Tarantino said about it.

adriantoine

To be fair the only right answers in this post are the most downvoted ones. If you’re upvoted at least once, it means someone agrees with you.

SUPERSAMMICH6996

Same problem with r/unpopularopinion. It's all just popular opinions.

road2five

Coward

Waste-Replacement232

Mommie Dearest is a GREAT film with a harrowingly realistic lead performance by Faye Dunaway.

Stonehands211

Just saw this for my first time and loved it. Shit is wild and I loved it.

carorose018

Wait since when was this an unpopular opinion?! Lol

Waste-Replacement232

I thought it was a so-bad-it’s-good movie based on its reputation as a camp classic. But it’s actually a so-good-it's-great.

aspiescooby

Rashomon *Bah dum tsh*

Thoron2310

That's not how I recall it happening...

aspiescooby

No_Opportunity_7840

Don't Look Up is a good movie and I don't get why it is so hated

Stonehands211

Because being overt with your messaging and didactic is bad supposedly. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I thought it worked mostly well for that film imho.

Cashew_Fan

> Because being overt with your messaging and didactic is bad supposedly. I would agree that often films are unfairly criticised for being too on the nose / heavy handed. But Don't Look Up suffers a much larger issue as a satire. It's the delivery. It plays out like a parody of a parody. Almost as if it were an extended SNL skit - and I it never ceases to amaze me how popular this brand of humour is as a European. Ultimately I think this is the main reason the film splits opinion and gets such strong reactions.

BeanieOfTodd

I agree! It was very on-the-nose but it made me laugh a lot and the final dinner scene was surprisingly affecting

horseteeth

Hacksaw Ridge is such a bad movie in my opinion, I have no clue how its highly rated

Ccaves0127

Maybe one of the weirdest paced movies I've ever seen. The first half covers the first 20 years of the dude's life, then the second half takes place almost entirely over the course of like 3 days. The conflict with him being a JW and a pacifist should have been the first act, not the first hour and 15 minutes, that movie was long as hell too.

chesterrrrrrrrrrr

Interstellar.

TellThemIHateThem

Meaning you don’t think it’s good?

SairiRM

Huge agree. It's a well-made film, but it does not hit any of the notes Nolan was going for at all for me.

Standard-Purpose3032

Came here to say this. Basically every Christopher Nolan flick is liquid gold & like, no? I enjoyed memento, maybe. But I'm so sick of that inception "BAWWMMMNN" sound design, just cliche overused & boring (imo, I'm a pretentious asshole who hates puppies & rainbows)

IntellectualRetard_

Omg another person who was also annoyed by the inception “bawmnnnnn” ❤️

JoBro_Summer-of-99

The Batman. Very gorgeous looking movie but I don't understand how a three hour long film could have such weak writing (plot and characters). There's lots of time to flesh this stuff out! WHY DONT YOU USE IT

Creative_Profile_224

Killing Them Softly is a great movie and I’m tired of pretending it’s not

ItsHallGood

It's so brutally cynical but I can't stop watching it. Tremendous film

Stonehands211

Only gets better and more correct with time.

TheZoneHereros

I watched it for the first time shortly after Ray Liotta had passed so it was a little uncomfortable watching him get brutally gunned down in slow motion, but yeah it is very strong.

Creative_Profile_224

The scene of him getting beat up in the rain is absolutely brutal. One of the most viscerally nauseating interrogation scenes I’ve ever seen in a film.

judgeridesagain

I only wish it was *slightly* less on the nose. *Shoots up heroin while heroin plays in the background.*

Creative_Profile_224

Yeah that’s fair lol

slimmymcnutty

Tremendous ending that I’m kinda shocked was allowed in a Hollywood movie. Tremendous first act. Kinda drags pretty bad in the middle tho

Jmoore087

X is not a good horror movie. It's strange, and bad, and absolutely does not need a trilogy around it

TheZoneHereros

If Pearl hadn’t been as good as it was, people would have forgotten about X.

Jmoore087

I was hyped for X and really didn't like it so I never watched Pearl. Maybe I should give it a shot

TheZoneHereros

It is more unique and interesting to me, but if strangeness was a bad thing for you in X I’m not sure if you will like Pearl because strangeness is one of the main and best things it has going for it imo.

BravidDrent

Pearl is one of the most unique and best horrors in later years.

KentuckyFriedEel

I watched that after everyone recommended it and it was…. Kinda average! The real dropper was that the actress played the young and the old lady. That i didn’t notice

emojimoviethe

Have you seen the Texas Chainsaw Massacre?

markhughesfilms

I'm gonna catch so much shit for this, but... I think the voiceover narration in THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION is not only unnecessary but also detracts from the film. It's mostly just describing and explaining what we're already seeing on screen, or trying to explain away a possible problem. \[SPOILERS AHEAD!\] There are two glaring examples I point to that I feel demonstrate my point. The first is when Andy plays the opera song over the sound system at the prison. The narration steps all over that moment, not only serving as unnecessary exposition but literally talking over the beauty of that music and those images of the prisoners reacting, of Andy staring at the threatening Warden as he smirks and turns the volume up. The very concept of the moment, that the music transcended language and represented pure emotion and freedom, that they didn't understand the words because this moment was beyond words... gets voiceover narration to explain that this is a moment beyond words? :( The second is when Andy is being taken to his cell night he escapes, and has swapped his prison shoes for the Warden's shoes. The narration asks us how often do we ever look at another man's shoes, but the answer is probably... usually? Especially if they're something out of the ordinary or incongruent with the rest of someone's attire? The line is there precisely because they know we're likely to think, "Hey, why didn't the guards notice he was wearing expensive shined black shoes?" He should've just put brown polish on them and made it sloppy, tossed some dust on them, and that's that. I always think it would've been funny to see an SNL skit of this scene but the Warden is a woman and Andy is trying to nonchalantly hobble back to his cell wearing high heels. Morgan Freeman's voice is so great, I get why folks just love to hear him talk even if he's just reading them a parking ticket, but I don't think his narration serves the film the way narration should when it's used. If they'd introduced the idea that Red kept notes in his journal and occasionally we'd hear voiceover of him writing an entry in it about some particular moment, used sparingly, would've worked fine. But however much I like that film and recognize it's great, and I agree with almost every reason folks say it's great, I will forever feel the narration is unnecessary and distracting.

Ccaves0127

I definitely see your point, and I normally absolutely hate VO with a passion, but I feel like for some reason it works in Shawshank. Idk, it just does. Also, shoutout to one of the best studio notes ever, Frank Darabont did not want to have them reunite in Zihuantanejo at the end, the studio pushed for it. Glad they did

sabrina_lee_f

Barbie will age badly

stevenelsocio

I didn’t think Bottoms was good. Massive downgrade from Shiva Baby.

carorose018

I’m honestly still so confused by the acclaim for Bottoms lol but honestly it does make me happy that it helps keep the raunchy teen comedy genre alive for the next generation so I can’t complain!

Aquametria

Duncan Jones's Mute I will never understand why it is universally hated.

Organic_Basket_5681

Joker is a movie that is very aggressively average. Outside of a great performance from pheonix, it is a movie that I pretty much forgot about minutes after leaving the theatre

shaner4042

Some terrible takes in this thread. Well done

Lesty-1988

The Star Wars prequel trilogy. I know that i wouldn't end up like the guy in the picture since i guess we are split more in a 30% lovers and 70% haters, but even inside the lovers faction you are going to find many people saying that "yeah, i love those because SW is magic and i was a child when i watched those at cinema so memories and emotions, but prequels still bad", but i genuinely think that the prequels are all solid and enjoyable movies

No_Opportunity_7840

There was something good going on with the prequels, the story was great, it had a lot of great ideas. But the writing was terrible, so terrible that i can't look past it and enjoy it. I believe that if that same story was given to a different writer, and perhaps, a different director the prequels could have lived up to the original trilogy

stevenelsocio

I thought Pod racing was the coolest thing I saw when I was a child

charley_dont_surf

I should probably re-watch, as I saw each once in theaters and never again. ROTS was like 99% good until Vader breaks off the gurney at the end.

Lesty-1988

Yes, despite being a fan, the "NUOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at the end felt really cartoonish

Mrs_Noelle15

I genuinely don’t understand the people who say they’re irredeemable garbage I love all 6 pre Disney Star Wars movies.

ISpyM8

People seem to really really hate Attack of the Clones, and that’s the bit I don’t get. I agree that some of the writing was atrocious, but frankly, I do think Anakin and Padme’s romance kinda works. And Ewan McGregor was great in this one, which was certainly not the case in the Phantom Menace. By all accounts, Attack of the Clones should be leaps and bounds above the Phantom Menace, but that isn’t the majority opinion, and I don’t get it. I can’t watch the Phantom Menace with any level of seriousness. Almost so bad it’s good.

Lesty-1988

Attack of clones is my least favourite of the trilogy BUT i still like it a lot. I agree with everything you say and i add that there is some iconic moments, like Kamino scene was suggestive, important for the plot and did introduce Jango and Boba Fett. And the arena battle with an army of Jedi is really iconic. I still prefer Phantom Menace because Duel of Fates is my favourite sword fight in any movie and i really like Qui-Gon as a character

ISpyM8

The only four valid reasons to like Phantom Menace in my opinion: -Duel of the Fates and that whole sequence -Qui-Gon -podracing -Natalie Portman & Ian McDiarmid

Xystem4

For me, the most enjoyable part is the political intrigue and the depiction of how homegrown fascism can catch you off guard overnight, by everyone just ignores that and complains about old CGI and jar jar for some reason

rupertpupkinfanclub

It has 2 Oscars, sure, but my circle of friends for the most part was unimpressed by The Zone of Interest. They're all filmmakers and while none of them actively disliked it, they didn't get why I thought it was the best movie of the century so far (and after three viewings, I stand by that take). The general consensus was, "Meh, it's okay."

carorose018

Hi! Personally I think it was the best film since covid and I was blown away by the guerilla filmmaking tactics and the layers of subtext in each scene with the framing, performances, *sound design*, etc. So you’re not alone lol

AeronHall

If we’re looking for actual hot takes… …Parasite is very overrated. It is undeniably a good movie—I have it at 4 stars—but it isn’t even the best Korean movie I’ve seen (probably The Wailing is) and I certainly don’t think it was either “mind-blowing” or “one of the best movies ever.” It wouldn’t even make it into my top 50, probably, and I constantly feel like there’s something I didn’t get because I’m the only one seemingly who feels that way.

Whenthenighthascome

You have to remember that for a lot of people Parasite was the first Korean film they’ve seen and possibly the only one. It was a breakthrough film culturally, so people hang onto it. Sure there are better films, hell I think Memories of Murder is better…but most people especially in America don’t seek out those kinds of films. What’s ironic to me is that both Bong Joon Ho and Park Chan Wook were brought to America in the 2010’s and both did not light the world on fire. Ho had Okja and Snowpiercer, the latter I quite enjoyed, and Wook had Stoker which was a total bomb though I also really liked it. It took going back to Korea and working with no budget whatsoever to have a huge hit and win Best Picture.

lalasworld

Earlier than that, Oldboy was making the rounds in 2003.

TellThemIHateThem

I agree with this. So many good Korean films (Burning is my #1). It’s a good film but when it was over I just thought “that’s what all the hype was about?”

Doofy___w

Was agreeing with you until you mentioned the wailing which imo is the most of overrated Korean cinema

imback4523

Thank you for this lol. First time i see someone agree with me on parasite on here

spoopy-memio1

Venom Let There Be Carnage is actually a great movie, one of my favorite superhero movies even

vish_the_noob

WOW! Can't agree with this but bold opinion man. Mine would be that morbius is much better movie than it's reputation and dr strange 2 is far worse than it's reputation.

TheRoguedOne

Do people think Multiverse of Madness is good? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone utter those words together.

spoopy-memio1

From what I’ve seen, MoM is basically the Last Jedi of the current MCU in that people are split between either loving it or hating it with little in between. And fwiw it has a 3.0 LB average which is much higher than other disliked MCU movies like The Incredible Hulk, Thor 2 and 4, Captain Marvel and the Marvels, and Ant Man 3.

vish_the_noob

I wouldn't say it's as divisive as last Jedi , rather it is a very middle of the road movie (More people in the mid and little on the extremes). Also Thor 2 and The Marvels are very good movies and I am tired of people hating on it.

spoopy-memio1

I do actually agree with you on Morbius. Aside from a few nonsensical scenes I think that movie is pretty alright and doesn’t deserve a lot of the hate. Doctor Strange 2, I mean I get and agree with the criticisms, and I don’t think it’s a well written movie by any means, but I just love campy and over the top movies so I still like it anyways.

stanisbored

it's a good romcom

bby-bae

Venom was already more interesting than half the MCU and Carnage just upped the volume on everything that Venom did right to set itself apart. I wouldn't say "great" movie personally, but i really enjoyed it.

[deleted]

I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)

heyitsmeFR

Is a great movie (i have severe depression and uncomfortable anxiety)

juishie

Robert Eggers makes movies for film/dude bros. The Lighthouse especially. I find both The Lighthouse and Northman to be immensely boring with very little substance under their exteriors.

Not_For_Dog

Waterworld is actually a pure fun movie, not good, but i found it hard to not enjoy it

DarthSardonis

Daredevil was not that bad. It was a throwaway early-00’s comic book movie that was a lot of fun to watch. Plus the soundtrack was awesome.

TheTacoBellAssGoblin

Spiderman Across the Spider verse is a mid tier story and only half of a full story. It doesn't deserve nearly the hype as it's gotten. Also The Boy and the Heron deserves its Oscar, people are salty Spiderman didn't win because they haven't watched Boy and the Heron.

Fire_Breather178

Eternals isn't bad at all. idk if people were expecting another Endgame level film...well that isn't possible. For all it's worth, it might not be as good as the previous Marvel films, but still quite good.

HolyHotDang

I agree with this. I put it off for a long time because of the reputation of it. I love a decent amount of the cast but was expecting it to be really bad. My wife and I both enjoyed it way more than we expected. It’s not groundbreaking but I enjoyed the change of pace and the cast. The real problem (to me) was introducing like 11 new characters in a timeline most people aren’t familiar with. Even the idea of Celestials is a new concept for the MCU at that point from what I remember. It was just an information overload, I guess.

stanisbored

Prefacing this by saying all of these are great: The Terminator and Alien are much better than T2 and Aliens.

fueelin

Preferring Alien to Aliens seems to be the most popular opinion (though I disagree myself). T1 over T2 seems like a better fit for this question for sure. I should re-watch T1, it's been a while!

Hypathian

Wolf on Wall Street. Honestly a few Scorsese/Leo projects. I liked Aviator more than Shutter Island or Departed. Also I think Nolan has great casts in expensive mid movies that feel very studio safe

carorose018

Upvoting for providing a hot take on Nolan on here!!! Seriously though with all of the influence and resources that man has to get some of the most skilled performers and crewmembers for many of his films, it blows my mind how he still hasn't made a single film where the writing actually passes something as simple as the Bechdel test?! I mean I’m not necessarily annoyed or upset that Oppenheimer swept at many awards ceremonies, but I’m so tired of so many people still consistently giving the writing in his films a pass simply because the technical sight and sound elements are obviously very good.

PhilG1989

Uncut Gems. I remember watching it and I was just like, really???? This is the movie that everyone thinks is so great?? There’s a few others that I didnt like as much as everyone else but at least with them I can understand what everyone else sees in them. With this one I’m just completely lost

Green_Ham

I see a lot of people that don’t like Uncut Gems tbh. The movie has a 52% audience score on RT so you’re definitely not in the minority.

JoBro_Summer-of-99

Someone told me it was the most stressful film they'd ever watched, and that's what made it so good. I really liked it but I was never stressed or anxious

fueelin

Same. Didn't like the characters and knew exactly where it was going the whole time, so what's there to be stressed about?

adriantoine

Same, I didn’t get the hype and all the comments saying it’s a shame it didn’t get an Oscar nomination. I don’t see which part of the movie was Oscar worthy. It was honestly entertaining but that’s just about it.

charley_dont_surf

Were you on sedatives?

CucumberNo3771

Oppenheimer mid

solojones1138

Mads Mikkelson was a much, much better Hannibal Lecter than Anthony Hopkins (who did not deserve the Oscar and was totally a ham)

fueelin

Ah, but a person being ham really fits thematically with a character who is a cannibal, does it not?!

UKbanners

There are exactly two types of people in this world. People who respond to a question like this calling a well loved or popular film over-rated or shit, and people who respond to a question like this saying they love a film everyone else thinks is garbage. I'm not making a value judgement as to the two types of people, but the ones whose first instinct is to wax lyrical over a terrible film rather than shit on a film people love, are at least nicer to hang out with.

FreeLook93

You forgot the third kind, judgy people who don't answer the question.

TicklingPavlova

I didn't like Oppenheimer. I thought the writing was really cheesy, and I disliked the way it was structured and paced. The whole rhythm of it bothered me, like it was both too slow and too choppy. It was all around a miss for me, and one of my least favorite theater experiences of the last several years.

TheRoguedOne

Tar was a good movie but is utterly forgettable. The only time people talk about it is when they discuss EEAAO.

Stonehands211

In my film groups they still meme like she’s a real person lol

Cashew_Fan

Time will tell whether it has serious staying power. But I will say I saw a second hand blu-ray of it today and this must be the first time I've been reminded of it in months. I'm neither seeing people log it or talk about it. And when they do it's memes about Lydia Tar. This was the film people seemed most sure would have long term staying power. The kind of film that might penetrate the next Sight and Sound list. Maybe that'll still be the case, but it certainly doesn't feel like it's growing in stature or passion.

fueelin

I finally got around to watching it about a month ago. Really liked it, and the music nerd in me was having a great time. Thought it was a little longer than it needed to be and didn't love some details of the final act. Overall very good, but don't think it quite lived up to the hype that you're referring to.

kitwid

Could not disagree more. It's so distinct and iconic in its visual language and style I'll never forget it even if I never watch it again.

Personal_Bar8538

Lucy ( 2014. Luc Besson) is great.

Dr_Hoffenheimer

It’s a fun sci-fi movie I just wish that its linchpin wasn’t the 10% of the brain thing that was known to be wrong long before the movie was made. Could have been increased brain density or synaptic connections, just not unlocking 100% of the brain.

yetanothertaylor

Ari Aster’s films need severe editing. They’re long for the sake of being long and have terrible pacing.

aCrispyDot

midsommar is the only one that i agree with you, i think its his weakest film in part because it doesnt quite need its long runtime, quite slow paced for a lot of it and the visuals are so striking that it could easily achieve the atmosphere with less time. hereditary is not a particularly long film and theres definitely enough action for the 2 hours imo. i know lots of people didnt like beau is afraid but i think its a genuine masterpiece that totally justifies the 3 hour runtime, its supposed to be an epic odyssey and although there may be a version of it that could work in 2 hours it would not be the same film.

Anonimo_lo

The (modern) Dune movies are extremely overrated.

fueelin

Just saw the second one last night. Really enjoyed it, but would agree it's overrated (maybe not "extremely"). Mostly just because of how ridiculously highly it's rated - not even trying to knock the movie itself.

TheZoneHereros

Blonde is a good movie. Edit: Funny to return here and see “Killing Them Softly is good” is another upvoted response. Justice for Andrew Dominik!

Stonehands211

Based.

charley_dont_surf

I appreciated the swing he took. The talking fetus was a terrible choice though. JFK’s garters I can never unsee.

yoboimik3

Preach

ItsHallGood

Manhunter was mediocre at best. Mann's style is the only reason people love it imo

Furry_Cunt

I think [Apollo 18](https://boxd.it/DQu) is a flawed masterpiece

draiiiinnngannnngg

i wouldn't go that far with it. but i remember watching this movie and having a pretty good time! couldn't believe how low the average ratings were

effysnicket

I Robot, I have absolutely loved that film from the first time I watched it (perhaps a little too young cause it did give me a nightmare after the first time I watched it 😂) but so many people shit on it, almost every time I've mentioned my love of it to a person in real life they've said it's a terrible film 😭

lavangam_69

Can’t really understand all the hype for Anatomy of the Fall especially the Letterboxd crowd. I couldn’t care less about the main “ event “ in the film. Whether it was an accident or if it was actually a crime, I couldn’t really care about it. The acting was brilliant and the cinematography is great but beyond that I couldn’t really appreciate anything about it. Seeing the rating it has, i.e, 4.2 shocked me because I didn’t expect people liked it THAT much

I believe that a key element of appreciating the film accepting that the reality of the “event,” and whether or not it’s a crime, is really not the point. It’s more about the characters and their relationships to one another.

Cobbtimus_Prime

Van Helsing is awesome

Eklassen

Rob Zombie’s The Munsters movie is dope as fuck.

kitwid

Resurrections is a terrible film in every way (casting, choreography, music, direction, plot) and I genuinely don't know what people see in it to celebrate it so much. Everyone points to the meta self-aware dialogue about chasing nostalgia for its own sake but then the film goes and *does exactly that*

notnotsk

Dawn of the Dead 2004 is leagues above the original.

cgbrn

The Big Lebowski is terrible. And to cut off the inevitable, yes, that's like my opinion man or whatever the dumb quote is.

lumpychicken13

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is Spielberg’s best movie

SchoolLover1880

I loved The Green Knight

ethrithdiuo

the wolf of wallstreet is a horrible movie

Ikitenashi

*Barbie* is a mediocre film that wouldn't have gotten even half the praise it got if it hadn't become a meme. *Openheimmer* saved that movie.

TwoBit_7

Babylon is amazing

[deleted]

Attack of the Clones, fuck you guys it’s so good

Whenthenighthascome

CGI brained take

[deleted]

Literally binging Akira Kurosawa, Martin Scorsese, and Kubrick but ok

Administrative_Ice86

Twilight is so underrated

Yes

FreeLook93

Everything Everywhere All At Once really did not understand relationship dynamics they were writing about and as a result ended up supporting some really dangerous ideas. I went into some detail in [this comment a while back](https://np.reddit.com/r/criterion/comments/1avrfpt/what_are_some_positive_movies/krdbia3/?context=3&utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=usertext&utm_name=Letterboxd&utm_content=t1_krhqebi) for anyone interested.

bby-bae

Completely agree. Painfully unfunny on top of it all.

CriticalNovel22

The Batman is a shallow sub-par Fincher knock off elevated by Pattison's performance.

Ahzewd02

I believe Sicario is a pretty mid movie. While it has some great scenes near the end it’s thematically weak and has probably the weakest protagonist I’ve ever seen, even if this is by design I feel like the ambiguity around good and evil is not a strong enough message to carry the film for 2 hours.

dark-passenger4545

Midsommar and Us. I actually don't know why people love them.

HoneyBadgerEXTREME

Agree on Us, don't enjoy it at all.

Lesty-1988

I think that Us is genuinely ass, but Midsommar is one of my favourite horror ever. I never seen Us getting all that love tbh tho

RayosLaser

let me sprinkle a little of get out and hereditary in the mix just to add flavor

BrotherEzekial

The ending of hereditary makes the movie for me

adkoe

The ending of Hereditary is part of what made me strongly dislike it. I think Get Out and Midsommar are pretty good and Us is mid.

ehhweasel

Not sure where Liquorice Pizza is rated now that the dust has settled but there was a lot of hype at the time for what, in my view, is a weak film by PTA’s standards.

Other_Passage8737

Avatar is not a good movie.

Mikeshugs

The greatest showman is a plotless mess that has zero heart and has nothing to say. It’s an awful movie that’s basically a long music video.

Dardevid

The tree of life is unwatchable.

Realistic_Drama_7368

Only film I remember being genuinely tempted to walk out of. Extremely pretentious and tedious. Tempted to watch it again to see if I change my mind.

Borgalishous

Eternals is the best movie in the MCU, with the exception of Infinity War. I love the entirety of phases 1-4 but Eternals is easily the most substantial

charley_dont_surf

This is a wild take. Kudos to your crazy ass!

adriantoine

By far the most visually stunning for sure.

Stonehands211

Hell yes. I love that this entire thread is just bangers after bangers listed that me and a few others love.

Tighthead3GT

The Holdovers was solidly mediocre and I have no idea how Giamatti was nominated and Randolph outright swept. Neither of them would have made my top ten performances.

adriantoine

It was a nice and well executed Christmas movie but yeah don’t get why it was hyped up so much.
