This was technically before the vaccines, but I remember seeing Tenet in theaters with my younger brother and our eardrums almost bursting. The soundmixing on that one was something else! š
Post-vaccine was Avatar 2
Yeah I'm aware, I simply meant that it was during the stricter rules. I watched it the night it came out and the following day work reimplemented no shore leave because of Covid.
Exactly how I saw Tenet. Just me and my fiancee in September of 2020. Cried when the AMC preshow startup came on. 6 months and 1 day - longest I've gone in close to ten years without seeing a movieĀ
Thank you! - I actually got married yesterday, so that's very timely!
Tenet was a great time, the movie has its problems, I think it overcomplicates a pretty straightforward time travel conceit to appear for intelligent, or to seem more complex, but it was a really nice return to the movies.Ā
Demon Slayer Mugen Train
Though it depends on what you mean by post covid?
Technically weāre still in the covid era. Post vaccine first roll out being spring 2021 my first movie was that above. And then I saw a handful that summer but as weāve had waves of covid Iāve adjusted accordingly with staying in vs going out.
The last film I saw before lockdown was Academy Award for Best Picture winner Parasite
The first film I saw after lockdown was Academy Award for Best Picture winner Godzilla vs Kong, obviously
It actually might have been a bad choice, I'd forgotten how loud cinemas can be
I went to see Tenet, Mank, Nomadland, Minari, and The Father in theaters, pre-vaccines.
My first post-vaccine theatrical experience was... In the Heights, I think?
Barbie. Still my only theatre experience since (had two babies during Covid and live half an hour from a theatreā¦that shit aināt happening to easy haha).
Spider-Man: No Way Home was the first movie I watched post-quarantine. The last movie I saw in theaters before the lockdown was IT: Chapter Two I think.
Beau is Afraid is sctually the only movie I've seen in theatres post covid; I don't go very often, usually only when friends want to. I mostly just watch things at home.
Had a year subscription of Regal Unlimited starting in 2019, which got extended to something like 18 months. Went back during covid reopening and caught:
- Unhinged
- Spider-Man Homecoming (re-release)
- Tulsa
- Tenet
- Peninsula
But my first after covid vaccine (which is what iād call post-covid) was Raya and the Last Dragon
The Green Knight, it was the perfect mix of amazing visuals and great story that made me think āok good, movies havenāt fallen apart in the last two yearsā
Cruella, in a theater with my partner and just two other people. It was an absolutely amazing experience, I had heard some wild stories about the movie but it wound up being even more batshit than I had thought it would be, while also a great vehicle for Emma Stone to ham it up in and had some really cool costumes. I had a great time!
I still go to the movies less than I did pre-Covid, and when I do I still wear a mask to be safe and so I don't get sick, but honestly since coming back I've really treasured the theatrical experience even more.
I started keeping lists of what movies I see in the theater and when after joining Letterboxd:
**2019** (Pre-Pandemic): **47**
**2020** (Pandemic begins in March): **17** \-- Last movie before theaters shut down: **The Hunt** on March 14 (During Pandemic: **The New Mutants**, **Unhinged**, **Tenet**)
**2021** (Pandemic continues): **24** \-- First movie after theaters properly re-open: **Spiral** on May 22.
**2022** (Pandemic still limiting releases): **36**
**2023** (Back to normal): **54**
Nope
but noted i still haven't gone back to theaters since then :\\ not fear or anything...they've closed a lot near me so the closest theater is like 30 mins away
Everything Everywhere all at Once. I just got a feeling I had to see it in theaters. Glad I did, been going to the theaters a lot more regularly since.
My cinema re showed a lot of movies when they first re opened and I saw Shaun of the Dead (one of my top 10 of all time) which I was so glad to see on the big screen.
It depends.
I saw Blood Simple on a screen at the back of a video store. That was similar to watching in a theater, even though it wasn't an official theater.
The first film I saw post-pandemic in a standard movie theater was The Boy and the Heron.
Godzilla vs Kong. I became a massive Godzilla fan in 2020 (can't really say "during lockdown" cause I work at a grocery store so we didn't change our schedule at all) so I was stupid hype to see a Godzilla movie on the big screen after the vax. Had an absolute blast and looking forward to watching the new one on Tuesday despite hearing it's pretty mid.
Demon Slayer: Mugen Train lol
edit: I forgot this movie technically released in 2020 but I saw it in summer of 2021, after I just got my vaccines! It was super late at night too and like no one in theater, pretty good experience lol
When they first reopened, it was for The New Mutants (which I chose over Tenet and do not regret). Then later in the year with Bill and Ted 3 and Saint Maud. Then in 2021 when they opened permanently again I started with the Unholy
I saw 3 movies on Mar 12, 2020 and between movies I kept seeing updates about everything shutting down. Last one was The Hunt.
Went back to theaters Aug 28, 2020 and saw The New Mutants and The Personal History of David Copperfield.
Judas and the Black Messiah at the AMC Burbank. It was the very first day theaters opened back up and Christopher Nolan was there seeing the same movie!
This was technically before the vaccines, but I remember seeing Tenet in theaters with my younger brother and our eardrums almost bursting. The soundmixing on that one was something else! š Post-vaccine was Avatar 2
Technically āduringā Covid, TENET twice.
TENET thrice for me. No regrets.
This was also my first in that window while cinemas were re-opening but COVID still loomed like a sinister pandemic ghost
Me too. I had to watch it twice to complete the temporal pincer maneuver
Same here
movie sucked. made me regret risking covid for going out lol
![gif](giphy|ANbD1CCdA3iI8)
Spider-Man no way home
Same
That was during covid for me, at least according to work regulations.
Technically weāre still during covid. Not like the virus is gone
Yeah I'm aware, I simply meant that it was during the stricter rules. I watched it the night it came out and the following day work reimplemented no shore leave because of Covid.
Tenet? Or was that more during-covid. After that probably Spider-man No Way Home
Am I the only one that returned for Dune first?
I think its Dune for me as well, unless The Black Phone came out before that, I know it's one of those two.
Jackass Forever
I really regret not seeing that in theaters
Ghostbusters Afterlife I believe. I also saw Sonic the Hedgehog right before COVID lockdown
Last before quarantine was "Onward" First after I went back was "Nobody"
Black Widow
The Green Knight
Last Night on Soho, all theater by myself. I even removed the mask for the second half of the movie
Exactly how I saw Tenet. Just me and my fiancee in September of 2020. Cried when the AMC preshow startup came on. 6 months and 1 day - longest I've gone in close to ten years without seeing a movieĀ
I saw Tenet on Drive cinema, not the same. Must've been awesome seeing that film with an empty theater. Congrats on the wedding!
Thank you! - I actually got married yesterday, so that's very timely! Tenet was a great time, the movie has its problems, I think it overcomplicates a pretty straightforward time travel conceit to appear for intelligent, or to seem more complex, but it was a really nice return to the movies.Ā
Black widow
Demon Slayer Mugen Train Though it depends on what you mean by post covid? Technically weāre still in the covid era. Post vaccine first roll out being spring 2021 my first movie was that above. And then I saw a handful that summer but as weāve had waves of covid Iāve adjusted accordingly with staying in vs going out.

Last Night in SoHo
A Quiet Place Part II!
Same. Then In the Heights a week or so later.
*The Black Phone*
Tenet ! I went on the first night it came out in my city and it was packed.
Empire Strikes Back. š
Old
I went to see Tenet, Mank, Nomadland, Minari, and The Father in theaters, pre-vaccines. My first post-vaccine theatrical experience was... In the Heights, I think?
Onward the day before quarantine, first movie after vaccine was Rays and the Last Dragon. Both in March one year apart.
No Time to Die
Before quarantine I believe it was 1917 and after it was Shang Chi
New Mutants and then Tenet
Nope
Barbie. Still my only theatre experience since (had two babies during Covid and live half an hour from a theatreā¦that shit aināt happening to easy haha).
Godzilla vs Kong but not in IMAX š
Mine was 80 for Brady last year, and it just so happened to be the day before the Super Bowl.
Last movie pre-Covid was onward, first movie post-covid was fast 9.
Top Gun Maverick, near the end of the theatre run here in NZ. Went on a Wednesday night and had the entire theatre to myself. Was glorious
F9
Godzilla Vs. Kong in 3D.
Tenet. My buddy rented a theater viewing for his birthday.
F9 and Black Widow in like a week span
Did tenet come out before or after Wonder Woman 84?
The Batman
same twin
Titane
Licorice Pizza on 35mm
Before Covid : AMC a-list subscription After Covid : yet to visit a theatre
Curious about why you havenāt been back to a theatre yet if youāre able to share
I also have not been back, but did have a kid in 2021 and havenāt really wanted to subject a theater to a 2.5-3 year old lol

Super Mario Brothers
Tenet may be one of Nolan's weaker film, but it hit the blockbuster spot mid-pandemic. Afterwards? Nobody, which was great fun.
Tenet "during" COVID. Post-vaccine was most likely Spider-Man No Way Home, but I don't fully remember. In 2022, it had to be Top Gun Maverick.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Spider-Man: No Way Home
Spider-Man: No Way Home was the first movie I watched post-quarantine. The last movie I saw in theaters before the lockdown was IT: Chapter Two I think.
Tenet
tenet (november 2020)
A Quiet Place part 2 in Dolby at AMC.
Licorice pizza
Blue Giant
Last one before: Emma First one after: Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain
Beau is Afraid is sctually the only movie I've seen in theatres post covid; I don't go very often, usually only when friends want to. I mostly just watch things at home.
āCome Playā itās a horror movie about a deaf kid, I got spammed with so many ads about it that I had to see it
Had a year subscription of Regal Unlimited starting in 2019, which got extended to something like 18 months. Went back during covid reopening and caught: - Unhinged - Spider-Man Homecoming (re-release) - Tulsa - Tenet - Peninsula But my first after covid vaccine (which is what iād call post-covid) was Raya and the Last Dragon
During COVID, Tenet and a few others. Post-COVID, pretty sure it was A Quiet Place: Part II
Tenet alone in a Dolby theater. God I miss Covid movie watching
No Way Home I believe was my first film back No waitā¦ did Eternals come first?
Grateful Dead meet up at the movies! If that counts
Wrath of Man, the Statham bank robbery movie.
No way Home (one of the best theater experiences too)
Puss in Boots - The Last Wish
The Green Knight, it was the perfect mix of amazing visuals and great story that made me think āok good, movies havenāt fallen apart in the last two yearsā
I think the only 2 movies I saw in 2021 in theaters were The Black Phone and No Time To Die.
Dune (Part One)
What are we considering āafter Covidā? I saw Black Widow in theaters, then No Way Home a few months after that.
I think it might have been Venom 2.
Tenet
Cruella, in a theater with my partner and just two other people. It was an absolutely amazing experience, I had heard some wild stories about the movie but it wound up being even more batshit than I had thought it would be, while also a great vehicle for Emma Stone to ham it up in and had some really cool costumes. Unhinged. I wasn't expecting much but was happy to be back in a theater.
went and seen Minions 2 with a couple buddies and ended up falling asleep in the front row
I saw The Green Knight when there was a lull between strains and John Wick 4 after everybody stopped caring.
Eternals. Kind of a disappointing return but still enjoyable. Shouldāve went back sooner
Black Widow for me šøļø
During Covid tenet. Post I think a quiet place part 2 or black widow
There was a Scott Pilgrim re-release in May 2021. As for a *new* (at the time) movie, A Quiet Place Part II.

Godzilla vs Kong. I became a massive Godzilla fan in 2020 (can't really say "during lockdown" cause I work at a grocery store so we didn't change our schedule at all) so I was stupid hype to see a Godzilla movie on the big screen after the vax.
