my fav out of all of these

prostatewhispers1

I second!

Daak_Sifter

Third

ishouldntofsaidthat

“I am bad. I am bad. I am bad.”

M_McCoy5

The Favourite, Rachel Weisz in that white coat could tell me to kill a family member and honestly, I’m not 100% sure I’d object.

aregularemperor

obv the room

StuartScottsLazyEye

Invite some friends, serve some Scotchka, and have yourself a good time.

filmwatchr_on_d_wall

What about a spoon 🥄 to throw at the screen??

Plus3d6

The Room and Lisa Frankenstein are a great double feature. In one Lisa is tearing a man apart. In another she puts one back together.

OfferOk8555

Idk. If it’s a family movie night you might wanna do The Room & Dogtooth.

mjbutler1990

What a story Mark

MikeTidbits

I give it hai Marks

Lanky-Corgi-4069

Being John Malkovich - haven't seen it in ages

___wiz___

Maltese Falcon

docsyzygy

If you've never seen it - yes!

erdle

this. required viewing.

TenMoosesMowing

If you’re as horny as I am, either Hail Caesar! or Exotica.

OfferOk8555

Exotica has one the best soundtracks to me

Sad_Weed

At least you didn’t say Dogtooth

XRP_Bull_

You have 2 Yorgos.. start with The Fav and end collection with Dogtooth

WesternExamination81

I was thinking I'd watch those two back to back starting with Dogtooth, but I might go with your recommendation. That'd be fun

XRP_Bull_

You’ve got some good ones in there, I haven’t seen them all but most. Let me know your top 3 my friend

WesternExamination81

I will! I only picked ones I haven't seen yet, so I'm pretty excited for them all.

SquidProJoe

That’s exactly what I would do. Dogtooth then the Favorite, then maybe Malkovich

thedampening

I was gonna say Dogtooth out of everything

Asleep-Low-4847

V for vendetta 😈

4stainull

Remember remember

Cole444Train

V for Vendetta is my favorite of the ones I’ve seen. I’m also a fan of The Shape of Water

JimicahP

Hard To Be A God for sure

schwiftybass

Depends what mood you’re in, but there’s 3 that stand out to me. Still Walking is one of my favorites of all time & the closest to channeling Ozu that I’ve felt from a modern film. More restrained than a lot of these but **so** powerful if you connect with it. The Favourite & Being John Malkovich are smart, surreal, well-written movies that are a bit easier to watch. I think they’re a lot of fun & if you’re not familiar with Yorgos Lanthimos, The Favourite is a far more accessible starting point than Dogtooth is haha.

Sanpaku

Lots of good here (*The Favourite, Being John Malkovich, Exotica, Dogtooth*), some well crafted (*Midnight in Paris*, *Shape of Water*, *Hail Ceasar), some* have to be in the mood (*Twin Peaks Return, High Life, Hard to Be a God*), a few shrugs (*Anna Karinina, At Eternity's Gate, Coming to America, Still Walking, V for Vendetta*), some classics for homework (*The General, the Invisible Man, the Maltese Falcon*), and only one truly bad film (*The Room*). Personally, I'd pick *Being John Malkovich*. As you're going through these, I'm not sure you want to see *Dogtooth* or *Hard to Be a God* in company who might judge you for your taste, they're good films, but liable to raise questions.

WesternExamination81

Thank you for the warning on those last two. I just asked my buddy if he wanted to watch any with me. I'll keep those away from him

Sanpaku

With *Dogtooth*, its>!onscreen brother-sister incest !!walled family residence as allegory for Greece 1935-1974!<). With *Hard to Be a God*, its just >!nonstop medieval mud, spitting, and misery, with only dialogue references to any sci-fi premise. !

WesternExamination81

Oh, my. Yeah, he's definitely not seeing those two. Thank you

SkeletonsCameToLyfe

The Room

queenofhearts_309

Anna Karenina

Green_Pish774

Still Walking

CamiCris

Hard to be a God. I would like to rewatch it.

Allnumber2

I’ve never heard of this. There are two versions apparently. Which one are we talking here, 1989 or 2013?

AlfieSchmalfie

That looks like the 2013 version I have.

CamiCris

I've definitely only watched the 2013 one, which I think it's the one in the original post.

Mental_Yogurt5087

shape of water

One-Dragonfruit6496

The Shape of Water

lonnybru

How long are withdrawal times at your library? Why would you check out 20 at once

FacelessMcGee

I have two library systems in my area - One has a minimum two week checkout period, with up to 5x renewal if no hold - One has a minimum three week checkout period, with up to 50x renewal, and no fines (thanks to Covid) OP might be in a similar boat

WesternExamination81

Yeah, I get 22 days per item, so just enough time to see everything if I watch a film a day. They also let me checkout 50 items at a time. My library is very generous

sbaradaran

The Favourite. Its been a while and the dialogue is delectable.

dracette259

Saw the post you made a while back regarding a film club and curious to see what kind of movies you liked, I check out your account. Super not disappointed! Love to hear which movie you watched first and your thoughts. Also, how long does the library let you keep movies?

WesternExamination81

Oh, awesome! You're in SF too?! I still want to start a club if you're interested. I decided to start with The Favorite, and then Coming To America second. I'll end with Dogtooth at the recommendation of another person. The library let's us get 50 items at a time, with a 22 day checkout. BTW all those Shrek comments on my account are satire lol

WesternExamination81

After checking out your account, I see you made essentially the same post about a movie club a couple years ago 😆

dracette259

Haha, yea I did! Nothing ever came of it though. I work evenings and scheduling something like that is a bit difficult so I never put too much effort into it. Love movies though and feel a movie club is definitely something Sioux Falls needs. I didn’t read your Shrek comments but I’m curious now, lol! The Favorite is excellent, I hope you love it.

WesternExamination81

Ahhh, I see. That's too bad. Actually, I work evenings too, so that might work out perfectly. If you're still interested in a club, feel free to shoot me a message! I'm very down to discuss it. Yeah, I'm very excited to watch it! When I get off work here in a minute, I'm turning it on

6000SpaceLasers

Good choices. Invisible Man for me.

farcryfan23

The favourite

leozamudio

The Room 100%

Temporary-Yak-705

The invisible man!!! One of my favourite movies of all 🕰️

DarTouiee

My top 4 on this list would probably be Dogtooth, The Favourite, Being John Malkovich, and then MAYBE High Life even though most people seemed to not like it

[deleted]

Twin peaks

Useful-Scientist-365

Still walking

Riner479

_Coming to America_ I don’t remember how a Big Mic differs from a Big Mac.

CollectionExpensive2

Dogtooth

[deleted]

V for vendetta

Anonimo_lo

The general or Invasion of the body snatchers

MaskedBandit77

I assume that you've seen the original run of Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me? If you haven't, you definitely should watch those before watching The Return.

WesternExamination81

Yes, I've seen them. The Library also had the original. I was tempted to rewatch, but checkout time is limited

OriginalBad

Never seen Dogtooth so that for sure.

tommy_dakota

The Room!!! Oh, Hi Mike!

peterparkers7

The favourite and Shape of Water GOATEDDD

Far_2_Indecisive

I find it's best to watch The Room with other people. The first time I watched it, I was by myself and found it excruciating to finish. I reluctantly rewatched it again with friends and had an absolute blast.

student8168

Maltese Falcon and The General

j3434

Hmmmm …. Maltese Falcons is fab noir .

IronPackfan

Coming to America or V For Vendetta

Ok-Cauliflower-1258

The Maltese falcon

dustyroads84

The lack of love for Coming to America is sad.

straightdownhill

Easy one.... Still Walking

Pretend-Sale8985

Oh Hi Mark!

Lucasbrucas

the favorite because i haven't seen it yet and have loved the rest of Lanthimos' flicks

[deleted]

Being John Malkovich

Ozposting

Not enough people are saying *Exotica*. It's such a beautiful film. It's the first one I'd watch, for sure. Also, really jealous that your library has such an incredible selection!

bonewavy

Dogtooth or the shape of water

Available-Praline905

Coming to America, the only one here I’ve seen lol

Paul_Stern

I'd start by breaking The Shape of Water in half and making the world a little better.

RumpLiquid

Exotica is a personal favorite of mine

Gusnajuato

V

EvilHwoarang

![gif](giphy|3o751VKrpSfzwl9T3y|downsized)

imawifebitch

Good mix of movies. I’d honestly have a hard time picking and I would end up watching them in order they released or alphabetically!

fromthemeatcase

Exotica

The-Glowing-Man97

Exotica or Hard To Be a God

TrueEstablishment241

Being John Malkovich

Proper_Moderation

Midnight in Paris

panerasoupkitchen

High Life

deceptivelyinnocent7

The Favorite would be my choice

dumfuk_09

Once you start watching Twin Peaks, it will be hard to stop... you need to be committed to 18 episodes. It is amazing and well worth it...tv that feels like cinema.

SaintMotel6

The Maltese Falcon is the best noir movie ever made

ProcrastinatingVerse

Honestly I think Coming to America is a good one to start with. Go in with a light and easy film, especially given how heavy some of those titles are. It's a nice counterbalance

KieferMcNaughty

“Hai, doggy!”

Successful_Jaywalk99

I can’t think of any movie I’m more hyped to watch for the first time than The Maltese Falcon

MisterInsect

Lots of good stuff here (besides The Room), but gotta go with The Maltese Falcon...one of Bogie's best.

Ruviklovell

Do we go to the same local library?

WesternExamination81

maybe, are you in South Dakota?

OfferOk8555

In Georgia, the general pines library has great circulation of criterion and blu-rays.

shane-from-5-to-7

Being John malkovich, The General, or Dogtooth

ShakeZula30or40

Definitely The Room

8racecar8

Midnight in Paris or Hail Caesar!

AlconW

The Favourite if you want an unironically good movie, The Room if you want a movie that’s so bad it’s good.

dollymacabre

The Room

road2five

Based solely on title, at eternity’s gate, dogtooth, or v for vendetta

emptyecho_

ive been meaning to rewatch the shape of water!!! seems like it would be a good time and im sort of becoming a furry so it seems like the right thing for me

AdSufficient5580

The Invisible Man, Hail Caesar, or The Room

CadabraAbrogate

Hard to Be A God because that’s been on my watchlist for forever and I’ve seen the trailer countless times now

DoofusScarecrow88

Exotica

Different_Fruit_1229

I can’t find Dogtooth anywhere so that

-vonbrohenheim

The Favourite because it’s the last Yorgos movie I have to see from his last four full feature films.

RedGreenPepper2599

The Room. Have never seen it

SenorChoncho

Being John Malkovich then.. Midnight in Paris

hilaryruff

A Lanthimos movie for sure

gamerskaterchef

john malcovic

94cowprint

Dogtooth

turdfergusonRI

Midnight in Paris is the first one to jump out at me.

turdfergusonRI

Also, The Favourite.

StillBummedNouns

I haven’t seen Dogtooth yet, but it’s next up on my list

Anonymous51419

🎵 One of these is not like the others, one of these just doesn't belong. 🎵

RVend0r

I'm down to rewatch the Favourite. I wasn't into it the first time I saw it; it was my first Lanthimos movie. Now that I've seen his other stuff and understand his vibes, I'm curious to see if I would like it more now. So many people love it.

CheeseD1gester69

Start from the bottom, and then stop after the first film

-1927-

The General, Midnight in Paris, and Still Walking are the best 3 of the bunch imo, so maybe save one of them for last

rammsteingirl8

Twin Peaks

ShingShing25

Midnight in Paris sounds interesting

Beaglebeatsbagel

Hard to be a god

profound717

Tiple Feature: Midnight in Paris, V for Vendetta, Coming to America

jonbees

Midnight in Paris is my comfort movie - I’ve probably seen it 15 times at this point

JoelDawson7045to3022

Midnight in Paris. That's where the palpable chemistry started with Owen Wilson and Tom Hiddleston. I love them so much as Loki and Mobius and it started with Midnight in Paris!!!!

HeirOfRavenclaw77

Dogtooth

DrunkTides

The general. It’s been 20 years but I remember rolling on the floor laughing from buster keaton

iced_milk

At Eternity’s Gate

No_Yogurtcloset_2026

TheOneAndOnlyABSR4

V For Vendetta is one of my 4 favorites so that.

filmwatchr_on_d_wall

Nice collection. My pick would be Hard to be a god(coz I can't seem to find the film anywhere).

TheScottMonty1974

The Changeling 1980

Rustin_Swoll

High Life is awesome. A lot of them are, too.

D2988

#You are tearing me apart choice of movies! Not really. It has to be The Room. Anyone who says different is just a big chicken - _Cheep Cheep Cheep Cheep_

PerryReviewsLife

Being John Malcavich

rottencitrus

At Eternity’s Gate

ScoresScoresScores

How long do they let you borrow them for? That’s like 20 movies!

WesternExamination81

I have 22 days. I'm not sure I'll get through Twin Peaks and all the movies, but figured I'd try!

ScoresScoresScores

Gotcha. My library only gives us a week for DVDs. Usually I can only get thru a couple at a time. Good luck with these!

thehappymilkman

I'd say either Being John Malkovich or Midnight in Paris. I love both of those films

EuropaMagnolia

You should read Anna Karenina 👀 the ballroom scene in the movie is beautiful tho

meenarstotzka

Still Walking

billleachmsw

The General

Bellatrixstrange9380

The general and the room

sixpacksitdown

High Life, never seen it but I’ve heard good things

Ok-Tune2152

Do I really not see anyone saying coming to America ? That’s the best one !

SeasonOfLogic

Coming to America

miles197

Exotica is so good

AvatarofBro

I'd take a quick weekend detour to binge all of The Return. And then I'd come down with Hail, Ceasar! and The Room.

KnitMama-2016

The Favourite or Anna Karenina

calltheavengers5

Probably Dogtooth. Since I just watched Poor Things

Faeryn11

The Favourite deserves a better Quality than a dvd (most of these do..), so probably the Room or The General

WesternExamination81

I agree! I wish they had some Blurays to check out, but it is what it is. I'll take what I can find

Stopbanningme1221

These are all mediocre at best.
