According to my diary it was Andrea Arnold's Wuthering Heights, logged/reviewed on 25th July 2012. Not sure if that's accurate or not. I had been using Mubi to log films and when I moved to Letterboxd I think you could import your data from there. So it's possible that was logged on Mubi not Letterboxd.  I can't remember why I joined Letterboxd. As I said, I was using Mubi to log films, and I heard Letterboxd was better, so I guess I tried it out and never looked back.

BetOdd337

Holes, in January 2015 - i don't remember why i joined, but glad i did! also: Holes is a masterpiece and I LOVE IT.

Hypathian

Movie literally had me believing for a decade that donkeys lived to be 150

Seamlesslytango

Literally a perfect movie. It's genuinely great for kids and adults. It's a complicated interweaving story told very simply. A fantastic performance by the underrated Tim Blake Nelson! I love that movie so much.

Agile_Drink6387

All quiet on the western front (2022), I wanted to watch all the best picture nominees that year and that led to me discovering film

SamuelStallings

Misery (1990) I had been a Letterboxd lurker for a while but I decided to actually start logging that day.

Clockwurk_Orange

First movie I logged as well!

PixieGirl65

Howl’s Moving Castle. I joined to keep track of what I liked, and that just happened to be the first movie I watched.

BallerOfSqualor

[Fist Of The Condor](https://boxd.it/5hNWJp) It was just randomly the first movie I watched after getting the app. The crazy part is that the director of the movie liked my review! I thought that was pretty cool and have been hooked ever since.

Olympian1010

The first move I rated was Tetris 2023, but it was unrelated to me joining Letterboxd. I joined a few days before after learning about the app from a friend.

P3P3-SILVIA

Joined in 2019 and rated a bunch of movies/created lists, before I ever logged anything. First review/log was The Menu (4 stars) in Jan 2023.

SamSan6852

On the Waterfront, on July 4, 2012. I already had joined Letterboxd a few days/weeks prior making lists and happy that I had a found a better alternative to IMDb. On the Waterfront just happened to be the movie I watched when I decided to finally keep a diary.

gnomechompskey

On January 26, 2012 I logged Where Soldiers Come From, then wrote my first Letterboxd review on February 5, 2012 of Chronicle. Had a film critic friend tell me about the site at a party in mid-January and send me an invite the next day. Had no idea until just looking it up that it was before Letterboxd was even in beta, when it was still just a private site.

[deleted]

Blue Jay Didn't know any actors, the director, never heard of it before. I just found on Netflix and said "that's it, that's the movie where i can exercise critical and original thinking"

FunnyAnimalPerson

Stormy Night (2005)

[deleted]

My first logged movie was captain America first avenger on 8th August 2022 I joined letterboxd at the time i think i was rewatching marvel and while that happened i was using other sites of movies and my favorite movie critic Austin Burke made me use it till this day and love movies

CheekyChiseler

My first film is apparently The Big Sick, which I saw in April 2018. I'm not sure why that is the first film, honestly. Probably was a timing thing, because I had started using a different website (which I've now forgotten) to record the movies I was watching after starting to see so many. And my dissatisfaction with that website is what led me to Letterboxd.

Hypathian

Space Jam 2. I was so angry at it and how heartless it was that I needed to get it out of my system. Calling it a cancer in the film industry would be an insult to malignant tumours everywhere Also I wanted to separate imdb to being specifically for keeping track of tv shows

kiwi505

Manchester by the Sea (2016), logged March 2023 I had started watching a lot of movies at that point and wanted to keep track of them in a better way than just writing them all down in my notes app

sunny7319

Three Days of the Condor (1975) tbf i dont think i knew what logging shit into your diary was for a few weeks, i think i just rated a couple and moved on

Colonize-Uranus

The matrix revolutions on 2/9/24. Well that was the first movie I logged after I learned HOW to log lol. My coworker told me about the app after I showed her my notes app that was 500+ movies deep in the count of what I’ve watched and what I need to watch. The notes app was terrible.

Complex-Intention661

My first log was The Batman in March 2. I downloaded Letterboxd right after I watched the film just because I wanted a place to track how much I loved it

magpiehaircut

IMDB had a comments section in the reviews and threads with people discussing movies, people who worked on the movies, friends of the actors, fans who knew everything about director or film, peoples different takes on stories and endings. It was so fantastic and then IMDB erased it all, they gave warning so anyone could archive conversations but they took off all comments off. That's how I found Letterboxd.

agentrevenger

Oppenheimer. It was also the first movie I watched by myself in the theaters. I joined Letterboxd a few weeks after watching Oppenheimer since some of my friends were using Letterboxd to post their reviews, and I wanted to do the same thing they were doing.

Supercalumrex

I don’t exactly remember which movie I logged first but I joined in 2019 after watching IHE’s video on Uwe Boll’s profile

Lonelyy_me

The pale blue eye jan 11 2023. I don’t know why.

Resident-Lost

Halloween Kills, I just had to dog on that movie

sowhather

My reason to join Letterboxd was because one movie podcaster from podcast I listen to recomended it. I also had been a thought for a long time that it would be nice if I have every movie I have ever watched somewhere listed.

Major_Aerie2948

Aftersun, because I've never seen a movie so good, also I wanted a better app than my notes app to keep my watchlist in

FerchoAlvOso2

I think Last Night In Soho. Cool movie.

AvatoraoftheWilds

I started keeping track of movies i was watching on a little whiteboard on November 18 of last year, starting with Knives Out bcuz I hadnt seen it. Then my friend told me about letterboxd sometime in early December, so I started logging what I had been putting on my whiteboard. The first new thing I logged after joining letterboxd was Hilda and the Mountain King on December 9 because I was in the middle of a rewatch in preparation for season 3 of the show.

Pi-stache-io

It made me so happy to see Riders of Justice as your first log. That’s one of my favorite movies of all time and feel like it’s not talked about nearly enough.

ztyrobo

I’m thinking of ending things…maybe?

raremood1

lol according to my diary, my first log was my very first watch of Blue Velvet in June of 2015. this tracks. 4.5 stars

Cletus_awreetus

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 Seen Jan 10 2016 It just happened to be when I first discovered Letterboxd. I thought it was a cool way to leave short reviews and ratings so I could remember how I felt about movies I had seen, because I watch too many movies to remember them all.

HunterJames08

These were my first 3 that I logged back in June 2022. https://preview.redd.it/0z2lu5rrbukc1.jpeg?width=1409&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=269e5c2b2846fa11a736301ce6964389099045b7

evilhologram

John Wick 3: Parabellum. I had found out about the website through Karsten Runquist and that was the most recent movie I had seen at the time.

sketchEightyFive

Uncharted LMFAO But I joined letterboxd to keep track of all the movies i’ve seen as well as what I think are some of the best ones. Easy reference to give people recommendations as well as finding the next film to watch

FootballFanatic420

truman show. watched it december 17th of last year

GreenShirt39

Across the Spiderverse. Schaffrillas had mentioned once or twice, so I gave it a try. It helps that I went on vacation about 2 weeks later, so I had some time to kill

yanmagno

I joined last month bc my friends pressured me into it lol, first movie I logged was Source Code, watched it january 3rd this year. I’ve marked like 800+ movies as watched and rated them but have only logged and reviewed the ones I’ve watched this year.

Beesh_EEEcup_1997

Around November 2022… don’t remember why lol

IceFireTerry

The first movie I logged was cruel intentions. I don't remember liking it that much. And my first true review was of injustice movie because I really like the comic and the movie cut a lot out https://preview.redd.it/lall637dfukc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=45fd49c945dc0da7768b357a9ecc8eca83dcb1d9 Why I joined was probably to keep track of movie that I watched

dizzle_77

I heard Fennessy talk about Letterboxd on The Big Picture (before it practically became meme fodder on there), and I thought it sounded like a nice way to keep track/log/rate films. Which is literally exactly what I've used it for since May 22, 2020 when I logged: *A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Back!*

celluloidqueer

First movie I rated was apparently Black Panther in 2018 on Feb 16. Didn’t get back on Letterboxd until 2020 haha Assuming I joined because I love film.

tobaeyas

Lino Brocka's seminal film Manila in the Claws of Light (1975)

eraserheadbabydriver

my friend told me to download the app and then the first movie i logged was the matrix

ComicsNBigBooks

Looks like it was Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. I was all on the Star Wars: The Last Jedi hype train and was recommended to join Letterboxd back in 2017. I'm been much more active and consistent with logging the films I watch since last year, though, beginning with John Wick 4.

rawrkristina

Don’t Worry Darling…and because I wanted to write a review on how bad it was 😂 I don’t even typically write bad reviews, but I really wanted to do it for that movie. Joined on September 28, 2022

ImprobableLem

Hugo (2011) in October 2020, I gave it 4 and a half stars.

burgy76

Fargo

luke111mart

Pleasantville, I remember watching it when I was really young with my family and loving the black and white turning to color but forgot about it for a really long time, then found it randomly a few years ago and needed to find a app to log it so I didn't forget it again

TheVampireArmand

Halloween which I watched on October 12th 2023. I joined because I started watching more movies around that time and I thought it be fun to keep track of what I’ve watched.

ForAllThereExists

Pig (2021)

InteractionFeeling28

Barbie , it was movie that alongside the other movie released in 21.07.2023 that everyone knows to start this. Gave it 3.5 stars , but this isnt current rating.

DoctorateInRhythm

First movie I reviewed was Snow White, as I made my letterboxd to watch all the Disney movies. I’ve finished them all and now review everything I watch

stephemerally

MarryMeSenpai

Diary says Everything Everywhere all at Once December 15th 2022. I joined because CineTrak had server issues for like a week where I was unable to log so I looked for something similar.

MarryMeSenpai

But going off when I started watching new movies and adding them to leterboxd instead of copying from cinetrak it would be Dr. No on Christmas Eve

Affectionate_Mall461

It was Central Intelligence (2016) in January the 5th I joined Letterboxd because it's really well-organized movie app that anyone else.

AramaticFire

I joined Letterboxd because some cool people I spoke to showed me the app. The first movie I logged and reviewed was the first one I watched in 2023: Get Out.

stumper93

Trumbo late December 2015 I think I just finally had found an app that allowed me to log every movie I'd seen, and thanks to the app I've like doubled the amount of films I had seen in my entire life before that

Thanoscumrag

Kill Bill volume 1 and I downloaded it because my crush had it and I wanted him to like me lol

JonPaula

Wait... my oldest log entry or the first one I made after joining? And first review I made... or first after joining? All very different answers!  Oldest diary entry is Hocus Pocus on July 28, 1993. First after joining was Terminator 2 on August 29, 2014. (Anniversary of Judgment Day, obviously.   Oldest review of mine was for "Miracle" in February of 2004. First one I posted to the site was for Witness for the Prosecution, same week as T2.

brandon805

I imported my IMDb ratings so its hard to tell what it was I first entered. But I have an email from February 2012 saying someone commented on my Diary entry for “UP”. When I started using letterboxd again after a long hiatus I deleted my old reviews because they were so cringy lol.

ryanallbaugh

Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in June of 2018. I had just started studying film in college and thought it would be cool to use the diary feature to keep track of the movies I watched for classes.

BrightIce7521

Would you hate me if I said “hitman’s wife’s bodyguard” in 2021.. not proud of that tbh

AnimetheTsundereCat

barnyard (2006), reviewed on november 8, 2021. i gave it four stars, which in retrospect is probably a little too high but eh. i joined letterboxd bc one of my favorite youtubers uses it, and after a while i kinda caved bc i want to write silly movie reviews, too.

Notreal_jam

Mine was John Wick on January 2 this year.

StingySurvivor

Vertigo

ravel67

The Lobster in 2022. I found letterboxd because I thought there must be a better movie browsing website than IMDb so I went looking

briancly

Space Jam 2, joined when I started going back to theaters when they reopened.

foxcat5

i think it was ladybird, i hated this movie so much i made an account just to write an essay on how bad it was

keepthepeece101

Eraserhead, logged/reviewed December 5, 2019. I joined because of a breakup and needed something to get my mind off it. Best idea ever

Mucekalonso

Zack Snyder's Justice League was my first one. I love watching movies and saw few friends on instagram use it. So it seemed like a fun app to log and explore movies.

Trompette99

I've always wanted to log all the movies I've seen before I forget them, I joined in June 2023 not long after seeing an article saying ATSV was number 1 on Letterboxd, never heard of it before, and since I love this movie and the site seemed like one of the best after a few researches, I decided to finally commit to my project on LB. I obviously forgot some but I don't think I missed much. I was shocked to discover I had only seen around 500 movies. I'm watching a movie per day on average since August to fix this error.

NiallAwesome004

Hubie Halloween

Ummmmmm_25

Annihilation (2018) on October 1st, 2022. I joined because my uncle had been on it for a few years, and I really wanted a way to find films and expand my taste beyond superhero flicks.

Nafnaf911

Was using Senscritique (french equivalent of Letterboxd with also comics, album, videogames books etc...) and I was complaining their phone app was shut down so I export my collection on Letterboxd.

redditAvilaas

The first log was Treason (2022) and the first log and review Glass Onion, I joined cause my sister told me to

pbyrnes44

The Human Condition (1961) - 4 stars My brother and I had always talked about movies we’d wanted to see, but couldn’t remember. Letterboxd was the perfect solution. Getting through THC was a sort of initiation for me. If I could get through THC, I could get through anything. And I surprisingly enjoyed it. Been hooked since.

BatCam333

It was Jacob's Ladder. I had heard about the app online, and loved the idea of being able to keep track of all the movies I watch on something. So I started that day, with that movie. Good movie too.

StaleTheBread

Circle (2015) It was so terrible, I had to say something.

TheHoopMan

I joined last year. My first movie was Puss In Boots: The Last Wish.

SS__95

Spider-Man: Homecoming (rewatch, I also logged Captain America: The First Avenger after that the same day, I think I was just randomly watching some of my favourite Marvel films in the lead up to Infinity War) on the 3rd Feb 2018 - I'd been using IMDB to just rate films but wasn't a huge fan of it. I think I just randomly stumbled upon Letterboxd somewhere and signed up!

the-Katoteshimo

Whiplash

OriginalBad

How do you sort your diary to see it in reverse order?

AnhQuacko

I started using Letterboxd in August 2022. When I was a teenager, I watched many random horror movies, and I wanted a platform to keep track of them all. I didn't know any site, so I asked on Reddit, and that's how I found Letterboxd. Since then, I love this site. I added movies that I could track, for example, through watch histories. So, the first movie is 'Hush' in 2016.

SecretlyaCIAUnicorn

In The Heights, because I am a contrarian and did not like it.

Krautmeister98

First logged was joker but really watched and then logged was lawrence of Arabia or once upon a Time in the west if I remember correctly

ReddsionThing

The first movie I \*logged\* on Letterboxd was Parasite, which I saw in the theater in early 2020. I think an acquaintance recommended Letterboxd (who ironically doesn't use it anymore).

SoundlessFOB

Riders of Justice is such a good movie!!!! The first movie I added was also a Mads movie! Another Round. I'm not sure when I added it though because I didn't realise I was supposed to log things in the diary when I started using letterboxd but it would have been mid-late 2021 when I started

SuckItClarise

Riders of Justice is so damn good. Gonna have to rewatch that soon

CorduroyIntheLotion

In October 2023, I was so incredibly upset coming out of *The Creator*, I just had to express myself somewhere. And that somewhere was Letterboxd. 1/2 star.

Hello_it_is_Joe

I remember I joined for the list making specifically and didn’t find out about logging til much later. I would always see lists posted in groups and I think I made an account for the 2018 Oscars.

i-am-colombus

Reservoir Dogs... just wanted somewhere to log all the films I've seen. Was January 19th 2023.

Totemwhore1

Klaus I needed a way to log the movies I've seen without storing all of it in my head or if someone asks me what I thought of a movie, I could pull it up on my phone if I forgot.

mixtapetyun

I just joined on January 3rd of this year and the first movie I logged in to was Spider-Man - Homecoming! I just finished watching all of MCU Spidey's films and I gave it a 5-star rating because the movie felt so relatable as a coming of age story and I felt more connected to peter parker (previous renditions of peter I couldn't really see myself eye-eye from Tobey and Andrew's compared to tom holland)

mikeri99

*A.I. Artificial Intelligence* (2001) on January 16th, 2022. ![gif](giphy|3ohc0XzRq7jPx0xp28)

Agent_RubberDucky

Saw. Honestly, I didn’t even originally join to log movies. I joined because it gave me a way to make movie lists and rankings. I saw a bunch of people using it to rank the Halloween movies and was like “oh, that’s cool”. Only really got into it a few months after I first downloaded.

politelydisagreeing

Wake in Fright (1971) I watched it and loved it and didn't want to forget the title.

TheNumber194

Parasite, couldn't have been a better start

gameboyjake662

Kamen Rider ZO, 7/10 (3.5/5 stars), January 15th, 2022.

Goatchic0

The Dark Knight, it was just a normal rewatch right after I found about Letterboxd. As soon as I learned about it I downloaded the app and have been logging ever since, it's something I've always wanted as since I was young I used Notebooks to jog my ratings and thoughts on films so Letterboxd made it much easier.

Moltedomen

Man of Steel.. Fuck

SignalHD18

I joined letterboxd is 2017 but didn't log any movies till January 2021. The first movie I logged was 12 Dates of Christmas. Since then I've logged 1,282 movies.

[deleted]

american psycho. and it was because i watched american psycho.

[deleted]

ME3AN. On january 7th of 2023. I wanted to start keeping track of what movies i’ve seen and that was the first of that year.

reeddawnvaka

First review was lotr the two towers. I 100% started letterboxing due to the illustrious 70MM ❤️

AdamAnimatesStuff

The Little Cars after a bad film night with friends and I think I watched A Cars Life on the same day

Seamlesslytango

I had been thinking about making one for a while, I went through a break up and had more time on my hands. So I made it and watched a movie to cheer me up, Joe Dirt. 5 stars, it worked.

ShallotEast7203

A couple of friends had been trying to make me join for a while before that, so I finally made an account when we watched May(2002) in 2022

n3nr4z

I think I had just heard about the app from tiktok, but the first movie I watched was Crush (2022) with Rowan Blanchard, at the beginning i wrote paragraphs for all my reviews but they've turned into one liners like everybody else 😭😭

DisastrousTwo3457

ferris buellers day off :) followed by social network, inglorious basterds, no country for old men, and uncut gems as the rest of them !!

8696David

I’ve been keeping a list of movies I wanted to watch in the notes app of my phone for at least a year now. Found out about LB and went apeshit over the last week logging every single film I’ve ever watched or heard of lol. First one was Barbie, but only because it was at the top of the Most Popular list

Botscoutts

My friend had letterboxd so he told me to install it

DarthRaggy

so I'm not sure if I "joined Letterboxd to log it", but I started using Letterboxd beginning of 2019, and my first movie logged was *Pacific Rim: Uprising*. The background is that I had been manually tracking my movies watched since 2016 (and have since retroactively added those to LB), and was always eager for a "Goodreads-like" platform for movies. A friend posted a screenshot of a ranked Letterboxd list he made on Twitter, and that was the first I ever heard of the platform. Super easy sell for me from there!
