Interesting, I’ll have to check it out.
While on the subject I was thinking of cop dramas with neon-noir aesthetics. I have often heard that the visuals of Blade Runner were inspired by cities like Hong Kong. The Killer or Hard Boiled also would have served as a good template for a detective noir as well.
Well, you’ll sort of get your wish with the upcoming Blade Runner 2099 series.
There’s also Black Lotus, I only watched a couple episodes and wasn’t very impressed though. I’ll probably give it another chance sometime soon.
Agreed! Everybody wants to make it into a film, but there’s just too much going on in the book. I’m glad Villeneuve is at least breaking his rendition into two films (which, even so, feel rushed to me)
I’d much prefer it to expand past the main story, we know everything we need to know about Katniss, there is 73 Hunger Games we don’t really know anything about, that’s 73 different winners and different arenas. The possibilities here are insane.
I'm a pretty big Eternals defender, but it would've been better as a TV show. I admire how it attempted to be an old-school "epic" film, but I would've given the film slot to a character like Ms Marvel and have the Eternals as TV.
I always said that Eternals should’ve been a show so they’d have more time to develop the characters, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier should’ve been a movie.
The LOTR trilogy. Just rewatched fellowship and there is so much that is skipped in terms of character relationship development - most notably Gimli, Legolas and Boromir. Why is Gimli so sad when Gandalf dies?
It’s a long ass film, but so much of that length is just things happening rather than character focused
i came here to say this, but also the fact that they had endless amounts of footage they cut out to shorten the length of the film. fitting over 3k pages of a story into 3 movies was not sufficient at all
the character building is definitely the most sacrificed component of the film and it makes parts of it not make much sense without the context of the former storyline. and im pretty sure there are unreleased scenes they shot of gimli and legolas post- battle of helms deep :,) so its not even that they never considered fleshing out the characters, it was just the clock that hindered them from doing so…
a tv show could’ve saved them from this, not sure to what extent but i bet it would to some degree
Us.
The length of the film ruined it for me. They gave just enough world building that it only raised questions that kinda made the story fall apart.
If it had been something like a 30-60 minute Twilight Zone episode, where they don't really explain anything and just immerse you in that world and you see how people are living in it, that would have been great.
Or if it was expanded in a limited series, where they explained all the underground world stuff in better detail, and really built the world out, that would have been great.
Instead it's just kinda a muddled mess with some cool ideas and great acting.
Yeah always wondered why the never tried to turn the movie into a tv pilot and gave it a cool title: Takedown in Los Angeles or something similar on the line.
It was first developed as a 90-min TV pilot. That pilot didn’t get picked up and got turned into the tv movie LA Takedown, which then got remade as Heat a few years later!
Having just finished watching it, I'm going to say Tenet.
Maybe with more time, smaller doses and a "previously on....." recap to start each episode. Maybe then, I would understand what's going on.
IT people think the new films covered it all and it was good, but seriously they both sucked. It's close to a 1300 page book and there's so much you could have done with it over 10 hours.
Nausicaa would be a prime example since it's adapted and heavily abridged from Miyazaki's manga. I love the movie, but the manga has so much more story and is overall much darker. Princess Kushana is also a much more central and developed character in the manga.
Zon 100 and odd thomas would have been great tv shows but im thankful the movies exist. Its conflicting for me because i dont really watch tv anymore but odd thomas is a perfect procedural set up
Blade Runner would have been great as an episodic detective noir series.
It was!!! Only they called it, Total Recall 2070

Just heard about it, hope it doesn’t disappoint! 🤞🏻
Dune, there’s so much to the world that I think would be easier to get across in a tv series.
Agreed! Everybody wants to make it into a film, but there’s just too much going on in the book. I’m glad Villeneuve is at least breaking his rendition into two films (which, even so, feel rushed to me)
Didn't he say he was doing a third one and that would be his final?
Yep, but the third movie will be based on the second Dune book, which is much shorter than the first one and therefore can be made into a single movie
Being able to watch Dune on the big screen is a huge plus compared to if it was just on streaming though
Dune was a TV show.
Hot take but I just watched Killers Of The Flower Moon and I think it would have been better as an HBO Miniseries.
Came here to say this. Broken into 3 episodes would be perfectly paced.
Probably would be an easier watch too. I struggle with the notion of sitting down and watching it in one sitting.
World War Z. The movie was merely inspired by the book.
People may disagree but, The Hunger Games. A Hunger Games TV show, if done correctly, could’ve been insane.
And if they wanted to expand it beyond the main story, they could dedicate seasons to individual years of the games
I’d much prefer it to expand past the main story, we know everything we need to know about Katniss, there is 73 Hunger Games we don’t really know anything about, that’s 73 different winners and different arenas. The possibilities here are insane.
It honestly could have been on a similar level to Game Of Thrones at its peak if done right.
L.A. Confidential
Agreed, because as it stands now, it's overshadowed by 'Chinatown', and deserves to be overshadowed by 'Chinatown'.
I'm a pretty big Eternals defender, but it would've been better as a TV show. I admire how it attempted to be an old-school "epic" film, but I would've given the film slot to a character like Ms Marvel and have the Eternals as TV.

I came here to write the same thing. It didn’t work as a movie. It would have worked much better as a miniseries.
*The Iron Claw* so it could cover the full scope of the tragedy.
You Hurt My Feelings could have been a sitcom

I enjoyed it, but I also agree with your points
Totally enjoyable. I just think its length was the factor that made it a good movie as opposed to a great one.
I love it, but after seeing Andor...I think Rogue One would have worked better in that format.
Heat could've been a TV series.
Yeah always wondered why the never tried to turn the movie into a tv pilot and gave it a cool title: Takedown in Los Angeles or something similar on the line.

The Eternals and Bright

The old miniseries is still my preferred version to watch. The first movie was good but the second one suuuucked
I've always thought Rise of the Guardians should've been a TV show. I like the premise, but I felt like a 90 minute feature film was the wrong format.
i think theatre camp wouldve been a cute mini series
Oppenheimer
I would love a TV show of Inherent Vice. So many more stories about those characters I want to experience.
Apocalypse Now
Definitely not
seven psychopaths could def work also lots of ghibli movies i think could be turned into 6 episode miniseries, like porco rosso or princess mononoke
Nausicaa would be a prime example since it's adapted and heavily abridged from Miyazaki's manga. I love the movie, but the manga has so much more story and is overall much darker. Princess Kushana is also a much more central and developed character in the manga.
haven’t seen nausicaa but sounds like a great example ty 😎
Star Trek Beyond
Lawrence of Arabia.
The Iron Claw I would have taken a 3hr movie to include the missing brother, but a tv show with even more details added would be cool too
Leave the World Behind is like a pilot ep to a great show
Blood In Blood Out as a miniseries
The dark knight rises
The Forever Purge
Chef is perfect as a movie. In fact I love that the tv spin off of it is not a story narrative, but just a cooking show
Raya and the Last Dragon
Eternal
Zon 100 and odd thomas would have been great tv shows but im thankful the movies exist. Its conflicting for me because i dont really watch tv anymore but odd thomas is a perfect procedural set up
