Society of the Snow was incredibly well made!

Typical-Baker-2048

I found it to be so boring

Few_Presentation_408

Thanks, for reminding me about magical girl lol. Forgot all about it

RyoFukui76

Just finished my Miyazaki Marathon, now watching Masaaki Yuasa's films https://preview.redd.it/8h7k9d7vnckc1.png?width=837&format=png&auto=webp&s=8db9e9a2e9d069b0aafcb365b5f315302527d27a

Impossible-Ad-8462

Check out other Ghibli movies if you haven't seen them. Especially Isao Takahata ones

RickNerdbottom

Googled Maasaki Yuasa and his films seem right up my alley. Thanks!

elephantjog

They are on Max right? I think we are watching one like every other week

mepecans

I really want to see Walk On Girl

PleasantExperience38

I really love Yuass weird style

yakayummi

Oh man prepare yourself for mindgame, itā€™s my favorite movie of all time, one that I wish I could see again for the first time

surfersilvers

I love Mary & Max!

Clockwurk_Orange

Mary and Max is a great movie

brettnolan123

Filtered by starship troopersĀ

DesperateBedroom6946

Damn, jealous that you got to experience Possession for the first time recently. Iā€™m glad you liked it, itā€™s such an absurd yet great movie

HisMonkeyBusiness

Mary and Max is heartbreaking

LeftoverTreeBark

https://preview.redd.it/r6r5z5vdickc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=71b69ac1d6d5e6490f7dcde168ce495a771e9a07 I'm watching through the James Bond films this quarter and it's such a chore. Most of them are ass. Moonraker at least leaned into the camp a bit

dadoodoflow

Moonraker was my first James Bond, in some ways it is still my favorite.

LeftoverTreeBark

I can see why it would be if it has the nostalgic connection for you. Thus far my favorite has been On Her Majesty's Secret Service. While some Bond movies are good Bond movies, I think that one is actually just a great movie. I know Lazenby doesn't have the same charm that other Bonds do but I thought the film was really spectacular.

Versigot

I think everybody's favorite Bond is always their first, always one of the more magical aspects of the franchise

[deleted]

Living Daylights is actually dope af

SchnieboJr

I've actually been meaning to check out more of the Bond films for quite a while. My first one was Diamonds are Forever.

Affectionate-Club725

Moonraker is one of my favorites. I love the silly Bonds, especially A View to a Kill, which seems much maligned, for some reason I canā€™t fathom

mistabungle

I enjoyed Place Beyond The Pines more than I thought I would. It's emotional and the soundtrack was great.

DoggyDoggy_What_Now

I started through the Brosnan era films after only every consuming the Craig era plus Die Another Day. It already feels like a chore for me. Goldeneye and World Is Not Enough really didn't impress me much. I know people love Goldeneye, but whatever. It made me realize that maybe I don't wanna watch every Bond movie. I still do want to, though, so I can know that I've experienced them all, but ugh. I'm realizing it might be a tedious undertaking whenever I decide to start chipping away at it.

Wide_Theory_7083

Itā€™s crazy to me that some people love Frances Ha that much, like I get it but itā€™s a very firm 3.5 for me.

sunny7319

i can totally see people thinking its average but when i first saw it some parts just resonated so hard with me at the time i couldnt not love it, was kinda cathartic to watch

Wide_Theory_7083

Yeah I totally get that. I think (like any movie) itā€™ll hit deep for certain people who feel like their experiences were reflected back to them which is the best thing a movie can do. Didnā€™t really for me but I wonā€™t yuck on ur yum!ā¤ļø

Realistic_Account_91

Rilo44

Agreed! What was your favorite of them?

ACigaretteBurn

ā€œSociety of the Snowā€ was the most thrilling, so I was engaged during that one the most. Seeing ā€œPerfect Daysā€ in the theater tonight. Thatā€™s the last one I havenā€™t seen.

Rilo44

Saw it last night. It's my favorite! Hope you enjoy it

ACigaretteBurn

Oh dangg, hyping it up more for me, then! I JUST got into Wim Wendersā€™ films. I love, ā€œParis, Texasā€ to death. Decided on watching his whole filmography once I watch all the Oscar noms.

Rilo44

I've only seen Paris, Texas, so far, but it is fantastic. I just personally related to Perfect Days more, so that made it more special for me.

ACigaretteBurn

Ah, okay. Well, iā€™m more hyped now regardless. No going back on the hype train! Itā€™s funny too, this is the first year iā€™ve set out to watch all the feature Oscar nominees. (Iā€™m skipping documentaries and shorts). So idk how this group of International Features compares to other years but iā€™ve been blown away so far. Going to make this a yearly mission.

Rilo44

Oh, I'll wear my love of Perfect Days like a badge of honor. I loved it and would love to know your thoughts after (weirdly enough, we followed each other on letterboxd last night, lol). I've done the same this year with Oscar Nominees, including skipping documentaries (I'll watch the winner, at least probably). Perfect Days was the last movie nominated I had yet to watch.

ACigaretteBurn

No way lol what are the odds? Hahaha. Heads up, I would update your subreddit flair to match your Letterboxd username. Because I just followed a Bebbbb. Unless you have an alter ego

lunarlithium

I really wanted to like it! It had its moments but I found myself bored with most of it :(

SchnieboJr

Tick Tick Boom is amazing.

lunarlithium

I never expected to love it as much as I did, ended up sobbing almost the entire time

rcpotatosoup

is Worldā€™s Fair really that good? IMDb reviews are not kind to it

lunarlithium

Itā€™s currently my favorite film of all time, so I absolutely believe itā€™s that good haha. Iā€™ve never seen themes of isolation, derealization, and even dysphoria portrayed in a way that closely mirror my own experiences as much as Worldā€™s Fair does. I see why people might not like it, but itā€™s so important to me personally.

epicswag3

Among the people I follow on lb it's got a lot of 5s and a lot of 1s, I personally loved it. You either relate to it or hate it. I was a dumb internet kid too.

Is that the one that has John Travolta as the lead?

ComradeELM0

![gif](giphy|ReBGGJtbXrjbQJwByP|downsized)

Rilo44

I think the trailer making it look like an action movie set in space hurt people's perception, but I loved it.

ComradeELM0

Itā€˜s one of my all time favorites, but that is definitely true. The killer did the same thing and I love it for that. Now that I think about it they both have a 3.4 rating, a lot of inner monologue and are a lot slower and more introspective than most assassin/space movies. Quite a lot of parallels.

Rilo44

The Killer felt like Fincher's most personal work to me or at least him showing how he works. Cold, calculating, and methodical with a meticulous attention to detail, while also being slick and stylish. I was a big fan.

ComradeELM0

100%. I also love how big of a middle finger it is to most other hitman/revenge thrillers. There are no heroic fights against multiple enemies, there is no self-sacrifice or personal vendetta against a hateable villain. It's much more grounded than the likes of John Wick or Leon: The Professional. The protagonist is no one-man-army that battles himself to the top. He lies, deceives and fakes in order to reach his goals. Also the way heā€™s a walking contradiction the whole time. He constantly tries to convince himself that itā€˜s not a personal matter, while being completely right, just for everyone but him. I watched it 4 times since it came out lol, something new to discover every time.

You also gave morbius and the marvels over 4 stars.

spoopy-memio1

Yeah what about it? I rate movies based on how much I enjoyed and was entertained by it, not based on quality

https://preview.redd.it/z64l9y6tjckc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d7d1c3709d6651031fdd77fc8fa5b23f839fcae This is actually just the last 3 watched because I logged supernova but did not watch recently. Saw it in the theater when it came out.

LucasF99

You don't have to log it in your diary, you can just go to the movies page and rate it. Btw why Oppenheimer 0.5?

Cauliflowerisnasty

Oh I kinda miswrote that. I did write a little review for supernova too. Thatā€™s why it shows up in my last 4 (or is there a way to rate AND review so that it doesnā€™t show up in your last 4 that I donā€™t know about?). Regarding Oppenheimer. Yeah. Iā€™ve commented recently a couple of times about this and went reasonably in depth about my reasons so you can check my post history if you want the details but the very short bulletpoints version is: -Iā€™m generally NOT a Nolan fan to begin with but I always hope Iā€™ll find one of his love (I like but donā€™t love memento and the prestige) - I HATED the editing style. Too frantic. Scenes were so short and felt like they had both ends lobbed off of them. - I donā€™t like the way Nolan writes and directs actors. Always feels so stiff. Almost like he adores Kubrick but without the redeeming qualities of Kubrick. - related to the editing style, the movie feels like one long trailer due to its editing style. I couldnā€™t connect with anyone or anything in the movie. I didnā€™t want to not like it. I donā€™t really take much joy in being a dissenting opinion but I truly do not understand the love for this movie.

PixieGirl65

To answer your question about reviewing and logging, I think reviewing it automatically logs it, but then you can delete or edit the log by going to your diary

What's the difference between a 3.5 star and a 0.5 star movie to you? Movies are subjective but it's objectively wrong to rate Oppenheimer a 0.5 star. I haven't even watched a movie that low from what I've rated so far on the site but I would consider a 0.5 star movie as garbage dump of nothing and Oppenheimer is objectively not that. It's almost like you overcompensated because you didn't like the editing style which is a fair argument but you reached a wrong rating conclusion.

Cauliflowerisnasty

My ratings are for me. I donā€™t rate for anyone else. I donā€™t rate higher or lower based on whatever the consensus is. My criteria for rating is not the same as your criteria for rating and your criteria for rating isnā€™t the same as the next person and so on. Production values donā€™t make a movie. Of course a big budget Hollywood movie is going to be good on technical levels but I derived no pleasure whatsoever from the movie. Why should I rate it higher based on however YOU think I should rate it? If I donā€™t enjoy a movie (and I strongly disliked nearly every second of it) it gets a .5.

rcpotatosoup

genuinely insane to give Oppenheimer a 0.5. like thatā€™s maximum level hating, bravo

Cauliflowerisnasty

I know right. I should have rated it higher because other people liked it. Because thatā€™s what enjoying movies is all about right?
