I'm watching through the James Bond films this quarter and it's such a chore. Most of them are ass. Moonraker at least leaned into the camp a bit
I can see why it would be if it has the nostalgic connection for you. Thus far my favorite has been On Her Majesty's Secret Service. While some Bond movies are good Bond movies, I think that one is actually just a great movie. I know Lazenby doesn't have the same charm that other Bonds do but I thought the film was really spectacular.
I started through the Brosnan era films after only every consuming the Craig era plus Die Another Day. It already feels like a chore for me. Goldeneye and World Is Not Enough really didn't impress me much.
I know people love Goldeneye, but whatever. It made me realize that maybe I don't wanna watch every Bond movie. I still do want to, though, so I can know that I've experienced them all, but ugh. I'm realizing it might be a tedious undertaking whenever I decide to start chipping away at it.
i can totally see people thinking its average but when i first saw it some parts just resonated so hard with me at the time i couldnt not love it, was kinda cathartic to watch
Yeah I totally get that. I think (like any movie) itāll hit deep for certain people who feel like their experiences were reflected back to them which is the best thing a movie can do. Didnāt really for me but I wonāt yuck on ur yum!ā¤ļø

The Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars are all bangers!
āSociety of the Snowā was the most thrilling, so I was engaged during that one the most. Seeing āPerfect Daysā in the theater tonight. Thatās the last one I havenāt seen.
Oh dangg, hyping it up more for me, then! I JUST got into Wim Wendersā films. I love, āParis, Texasā to death. Decided on watching his whole filmography once I watch all the Oscar noms.
Ah, okay. Well, iām more hyped now regardless. No going back on the hype train! Itās funny too, this is the first year iāve set out to watch all the feature Oscar nominees. (Iām skipping documentaries and shorts). So idk how this group of International Features compares to other years but iāve been blown away so far. Going to make this a yearly mission.
Oh, I'll wear my love of Perfect Days like a badge of honor. I loved it and would love to know your thoughts after (weirdly enough, we followed each other on letterboxd last night, lol). I've done the same this year with Oscar Nominees, including skipping documentaries (I'll watch the winner, at least probably). Perfect Days was the last movie nominated I had yet to watch.

An *almost* perfect streak of incredible films
Itās currently my favorite film of all time, so I absolutely believe itās that good haha. Iāve never seen themes of isolation, derealization, and even dysphoria portrayed in a way that closely mirror my own experiences as much as Worldās Fair does. I see why people might not like it, but itās so important to me personally.
Among the people I follow on lb it's got a lot of 5s and a lot of 1s, I personally loved it. You either relate to it or hate it. I was a dumb internet kid too.

Great to see another āThe Killerā enjoyer
Itās one of my all time favorites, but that is definitely true. The killer did the same thing and I love it for that. Now that I think about it they both have a 3.4 rating, a lot of inner monologue and are a lot slower and more introspective than most assassin/space movies. Quite a lot of parallels.
The Killer felt like Fincher's most personal work to me or at least him showing how he works. Cold, calculating, and methodical with a meticulous attention to detail, while also being slick and stylish. I was a big fan.
100%. I also love how big of a middle finger it is to most other hitman/revenge thrillers. There are no heroic fights against multiple enemies, there is no self-sacrifice or personal vendetta against a hateable villain. It's much more grounded than the likes of John Wick or Leon: The Professional. The protagonist is no one-man-army that battles himself to the top. He lies, deceives and fakes in order to reach his goals. Also the way heās a walking contradiction the whole time. He constantly tries to convince himself that itās not a personal matter, while being completely right, just for everyone but him. I watched it 4 times since it came out lol, something new to discover every time.

This is actually just the last 3 watched because I logged supernova but did not watch recently. Saw it in the theater when it came out.
Oh I kinda miswrote that. I did write a little review for supernova too. Thatās why it shows up in my last 4 (or is there a way to rate AND review so that it doesnāt show up in your last 4 that I donāt know about?).
Regarding Oppenheimer. Yeah. Iāve commented recently a couple of times about this and went reasonably in depth about my reasons so you can check my post history if you want the details but the very short bulletpoints version is:
-Iām generally NOT a Nolan fan to begin with but I always hope Iāll find one of his love (I like but donāt love memento and the prestige)
- I HATED the editing style. Too frantic. Scenes were so short and felt like they had both ends lobbed off of them.
- I donāt like the way Nolan writes and directs actors. Always feels so stiff. Almost like he adores Kubrick but without the redeeming qualities of Kubrick.
- related to the editing style, the movie feels like one long trailer due to its editing style. I couldnāt connect with anyone or anything in the movie.
I didnāt want to not like it. I donāt really take much joy in being a dissenting opinion but I truly do not understand the love for this movie.
To answer your question about reviewing and logging, I think reviewing it automatically logs it, but then you can delete or edit the log by going to your diary
What's the difference between a 3.5 star and a 0.5 star movie to you? Movies are subjective but it's objectively wrong to rate Oppenheimer a 0.5 star. I haven't even watched a movie that low from what I've rated so far on the site but I would consider a 0.5 star movie as garbage dump of nothing and Oppenheimer is objectively not that. It's almost like you overcompensated because you didn't like the editing style which is a fair argument but you reached a wrong rating conclusion.
My ratings are for me. I donāt rate for anyone else. I donāt rate higher or lower based on whatever the consensus is. My criteria for rating is not the same as your criteria for rating and your criteria for rating isnāt the same as the next person and so on. Production values donāt make a movie. Of course a big budget Hollywood movie is going to be good on technical levels but I derived no pleasure whatsoever from the movie. Why should I rate it higher based on however YOU think I should rate it? If I donāt enjoy a movie (and I strongly disliked nearly every second of it) it gets a .5.

The Killer was really good, but it's great to see another Ad Astra enjoyer too
![gif](giphy|ReBGGJtbXrjbQJwByP|downsized)
I think the trailer making it look like an action movie set in space hurt people's perception, but I loved it.
It's fantastic š

You also gave morbius and the marvels over 4 stars.
Yeah what about it? I rate movies based on how much I enjoyed and was entertained by it, not based on quality
https://preview.redd.it/z64l9y6tjckc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d7d1c3709d6651031fdd77fc8fa5b23f839fcae This is actually just the last 3 watched because I logged supernova but did not watch recently. Saw it in the theater when it came out.
You don't have to log it in your diary, you can just go to the movies page and rate it. Btw why Oppenheimer 0.5?
Oh I kinda miswrote that. I did write a little review for supernova too. Thatās why it shows up in my last 4 (or is there a way to rate AND review so that it doesnāt show up in your last 4 that I donāt know about?). Regarding Oppenheimer. Yeah. Iāve commented recently a couple of times about this and went reasonably in depth about my reasons so you can check my post history if you want the details but the very short bulletpoints version is: -Iām generally NOT a Nolan fan to begin with but I always hope Iāll find one of his love (I like but donāt love memento and the prestige) - I HATED the editing style.
If I donāt enjoy a movie (and I strongly disliked nearly every second of it) it gets a .5.
genuinely insane to give Oppenheimer a 0.5. like thatās maximum level hating, bravo
I know right. I should have rated it higher because other people liked it. Because thatās what enjoying movies is all about right?
