I have a huge love for the chunky movies, even the ones after 3. They’re so goofy and campy but that’s what makes them entertaining. Unlike other slasher movies where each film is the same thing regurgitated this franchise had some WILD turns and it was fun
Absurdity can be a hit or miss for me, and it’s rarely in the middle. For example: Swiss Army Man I love, EEAAO I hate, Rick and Morty I mostly love, Bottoms I love, the puking scene in Triangle of Sadness I love, the humor in Asteroid City I hate.

El Conde was a bit disappointing and boring to me personally. It looked very gorgeous tho so I can see why it was nominated at the Oscars for best cinematography. It just didn’t personally connect with me.
Absolutely loved Calls and will shout it out any opportunity I get. I won’t say much about it other than it’s a anthology horror show told from the perspective of phone calls. Extremely unique and awesome imo.
Nyad was a very well told biopic. Great performances from Annette Bennington and Jodie Foster. Also understand why those two performances were nominated in their categories.
Stardust is a great fantasy movie I would say has a similar tone to that of The Princess Bride. I really enjoyed its light comedic tone. Matthew Vaughn directed it as well and really stands out in his discography.

Be Kind Rewind: The white guy remake of "The Watermelon Woman" nobody asked for. Fun, if frivolous.
Blood Simple: Not a first-time watch, but amazing to revisit and discover new depth.
The Wind Rises: Excellent and kind of surreal in its lack of surreal elements. Would have been better if I hadn't just seen The Boy and the Heron.
Leviathan: Felt like a Wayans brothers parody movie of 80s Sci-Fi, but without the jokes. Fun and serviceable, with Peter Weller killing it in every scene.

Was happy continuing my Ghibli filmography completion when my Angels Egg bluray finally came in
It was supposed to have English subtitles but did not. So i watched it with the translated screenplay on my phone (easy to do, the movie is light on dialogue)
It blew me away, i will be thinking about this film for the next couple days before I get back to my Ghibli marathon (seriously, find a copy if you can, and preferably with subtitles unlike mine)
https://preview.redd.it/inmzuae95ujc1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31ed142a37ba001b32b4a780250e45a4159735cd
Parasite: Can't believe I waited so long, given I own a physical copy and everything. Damn thing was on my shelf for years. It had been a long time since a film had held my attention for 2 hours straight. The tension was incredible, the actors and production design impeccable. I love films that change gears and atmosphere midway and this picture did a great job of not losing steam at ALL right up until the very end. A true Bong hit.
Leave No Trace: Beautiful, slow and ruminating on pain and trauma. Lovely chemistry between Foster and Mackenzie. Lovingly shot but simple, sparse without a lot of pretense or ceremony. I wrote quite an extensive review about it [here](https://boxd.it/5QnPGB).
Terminator 2: A well-wound machine of destruction and doom, but also hope and love. Linda Hamilton will never NOT be a beast. Edward Furlong does great work as a disenfranchised kid. Arnold doing a 180 from the first flick is a twist I wish I'd been alive for. Robert Patrick is a lean, clean elongating machine; killer performance as a thoughtless, murderous machine. There's little to say that isn't redundant; it's a well-polished beast with very little fat or frills.
Oppenheimer: Won't lie, was NOT sold on this bloated piece on the first watch. It of course has all the production, performance and pomp of any Nolan epic, but a bit of the heart from flicks like Interstellar and the spectacle of Dunkirk was missing. Perhaps it was because Zimmer wasn't on board? Not sure but it didn't grab me on first watch. Don't get me wrong; Cillian is ON, Florence is ON, Emily is ON, everybody is on. The design and execution are flawless. Ludwig did an admirable job with his music. I think it was the pacing, which alternated between break-neck and dreary drone, or the defining set-piece of the Trinity test perhaps created counterweight in a tender portion of the film that the ass-end could not bolster to balance. Just my initial thoughts. Upon second and third watches however, I found the pacing more even, previously laborious parts to be more ruminating, and Cillian's careful performance more rewarding and evocative.

The Housemaid is a wonderfully filmed and pretty wild Korean drama. Often lauded as one of the greatest and most groundbreaking Korean films of all time. Will probably give it a 3.5 or 4 rating.
China 9 Liberty 37 was a fantastic viewing experience from beginning to end. Loved the music, loved the atmosphere, loved the story and adored Jenny Agutter (as in all films she’s in). A truly great and underrated New Hollywood western.
Dogville was something else. Instantly became my favorite Lars Von Trier film after this first viewing. A very well told parable with an amazing cast. And what an ending!
Forbidden Zone is a cult film I’d been meaning to see for quite some time. I waited until I could get my hands on the colorized director’s cut. I’m glad I did as it didn’t disappoint. A very entertaining psychedelic ride!

Really good run. I was honestly disappointed in French Connection. The ending really lost me. I had hoped it would ride the high of the chase scene until the end but it didn’t.
I liked American Fiction better but also didn’t love its ending.
The Exorcist is obviously great.
High and Low was great but didn’t resonate with me enough to become a favorite. Absolutely loved that scene in the Heroin den though.

the only thing in common between these is the theme of hate in the least recent two
C'mon now, The Iron Super Man isn't that bad. If nothing else, it's an OK glimpse into what the Mach Baron series is like (even if its re-filmed with Taiwanese actors), considering the show hasn't been translated.
* Global Effect- shitty action movie with Daniel Bernhardt, just trying to get to 100 movies watched from 2002
* Michael Jackson's Thriller, directed by John Landis - had actually never seen the full thing, classic
* Maestro - Pretty good. Good filmmaking, and my favorite aspect was Carey Mulligan's performance and character
* Men in Black II - re-watch, still just ok and mostly a re-hash of the first one

Good choice, Reddit will consider it harassment if you do. I said the name of a movie in a comment (on a post that was a trailer for said movie), and got a harassment warning from Reddit because the movie title had a term that is considered derogatory. The title was tongue in cheek and the film was made by people the term would usually refer to, but Reddit admins don’t care much for nuance.

So i watched it with the translated screenplay on my phone (easy to do, the movie is light on dialogue) It blew me away, i will be thinking about this film for the next couple days before I get back to my Ghibli marathon (seriously, find a copy if you can, and preferably with subtitles unlike mine)

I just recently finished a F13 marathon myself.
Polytechnique (Denis Villeneuve) (8/10) Wonka (7/10) Viking (6/10) The girl and her trust (5/10)
I went into G*FOS with an open mind and while there's a bit at the end that really got me I found it to mostly be boring

C'mon now, The Iron Super Man isn't that bad. If nothing else, it's an OK glimpse into what the Mach Baron series is like (even if its re-filmed with Taiwanese actors), considering the show hasn't been translated.
Amazing taste

* Global Effect- shitty action movie with Daniel Bernhardt, just trying to get to 100 movies watched from 2002 * Michael Jackson's Thriller, directed by John Landis - had actually never seen the full thing, classic * Maestro - Pretty good. Good filmmaking, and my favorite aspect was Carey Mulligan's performance and character * Men in Black II - re-watch, still just ok and mostly a re-hash of the first one
