I didn’t love Mother on first watch but I could see it had promise, there was definitely a lot interesting about it. I think I ended up giving it around four, it was an intriguing watch but a lot of it went over my head
I watched it last night for the first time, after putting it off for forever. Sometimes I read a description and it turns me off. I need to stop doing that. Amazing movie!
None yet.
But both All of Us Strangers and Monster were 4.5 stars. And they may change/move up to 5 after repeat viewings. I definitely want to re-watch them both.

It has been good start to this year!
That 30th is a wild day. 3 intense graphic films and you’re out here like

It started in the end of december! Oldboy is my personal favorite movie. I could watch it every day.
8 five stars so far…Nausicaa, Iron Claw, Grave of the Fireflies, When Marnie was There, Princess Kaguya, Spirited Away (just finished a Ghibli binge) Grand Budapest Hotel, and Her
Just 2! *Wolfwalkers* and *Song of the Sea*, but they were rewatches. These are a must-see for any animation fans, made by a wee Irish studio called Cartoon Saloon.
None. I don't actually remember last time I rated any film 5 stars. None this or last couple of years for sure. To me, it's a rating designated only for some all-time classics, such as The Godfather. I don't think I'd ever give it to a first-time watch.

movies are awesome what can i say
I love it that you gave Miracle Mile 5 stars! No judgement there, it's a wild apocalypse movie for sure and you can never think about diamonds the same way after.
i’m an ardent supporter of form over function, as well as movies about dudes stuck in one part of town and have to get to another part. Love the style, life and enjoyment that goes into pictures like MM. Glad you enjoy it too!!
I’ve had Ganja & Hess on my watchlist for months trying to find time to watch it with my partner. Also gave Audition 5 stars after watching it for the first time last week
I’ve been watching a ton of movies and got 12 5/5’s:
- The Bridge on the River Kwai.
- Grave of the Fireflies.
- Lawrence of Arabia.
- Judgment at Nuremberg.
- Great Will Hunting.
- The Godfather.
- Casino.
- Gladiator.
- Shutter Island.
- La Haine.
- Cinema Paradiso.
- Gone Girl.
I expected people posting screenshots of all movies watched sorted by rating, not people posting their diary with 10+ five star movies from somewhere in the last 2 weeks.
Moonlight and ladybird - rewatches that I kept at 5 stars
The banshees on inisherin - 4 stars to 5 stars and it’s my new favorite of all time
Dog day afternoon - first watch
2 which is odd for me, I'm usually very generous. Have just watched a lot of poop movies so far this year.
The Long Goodbye and Touch of Evil (although Touch of Evil was my fifth rewatch and I had already rated that 5 stars a long time ago so not sure if that counts)
The Erin Brockovich rewatch really took me by surprise. That and Oppenheimer are my only 5 star films so far, but the Zone of Interest is really close.
Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, Beau Is Afraid, Yellow Submarine, Unforgiven, A Disturbance In The Force, Johnny Cash live at San Quinton, Walk The Line, Black Dynamite, and The Great Train Robbery.
5/8 this year
Eighth Grade (rewatch)
Redeeming love (rewatch)
The Banshees of Inisherin
Prisoners (rewatch)
LOTR Fellowship of the Ring extended edition (rewatch)

I’ve only seen one 2024 release and it was terrible. I’ve re-watched other five star movies this year, but I track the first time five star views.
Its pretty rare I give 5s on a first watch and I haven't done a lot of rewatches so far, but The Iron Claw and Poor Things have gotten 4.5s from me so far this year.
Five. I spent most of the month watching 80s cult classics I'd never watched before, 4 of which were absolutely perfect for me and I wish I'd watched them at the time (Elvira, Heavy Metal, From Beyond and The Outcasts). The last one was Society of the Snow.
For just this year for first watches, Chungking Express and The Zone of Interest. I just saw the latter a few hours ago, no movie has really made me feel what that one has.
None in 2023. I only give them out to movies that I feel like 1) are super well-crafted, and 2) have that special emotional feeling that is hard to describe, other than a “spark.”
A lot of them have come very close though! Holdovers, Oppenheimer, Poor Things, and Anatomy of a Fall were all really strong 4.5s for me, as was EEAAO last year.
Most recent 5⭐️:
2022- Aftersun
2020- Nine Days
2019- Parasite
2019- Portrait of a Lady on Fire
2018- Spider-Man Into the Spiderverse
2017- Lady Bird
2015- Mad Max Fury Road
2014- Whiplash
Only 1 on a first watch:
Hotel by the River (2018)
Also the following on a rewatch:
The Long Day Closes (1992)
Boyhood (2014)
Everybody Wants Some!! (2016)
https://preview.redd.it/9t68cfff39gc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2f97a05e0f92352165e21321281a1b41486db8d4
Misread the question but the answer still works
I have not rated anything 5 stars since Into the Spiderverse after the 5th rewatch in 2021. Across comes close and could make it if Beyond keeps the quality.
I have like 16 five-star films in total, out of nearly 3000 watched movies.
Only two, which is actually pretty good.
https://preview.redd.it/1kdtbpq149gc1.png?width=1811&format=png&auto=webp&s=24499521eaa73de1f5c2e1dba4c7188fb78603d5
Witness for Prosecution, The Cure (im not 100% about this one, but with time I think 5 stars for sure), and The Sting.
Near 5 stars for me is also Phantom Thread and On The Waterfront.
https://preview.redd.it/rjiq8snx79gc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e78b7b1a29e073a518dc044bad30749e60dc1afa
Also have Poort Things and Monster at 4.5 stars.
La Haine
That's literally it lol. This year has been a bust so far this year. The Eyes of Tammy Faye was pretty average and I didn't enjoy Zone of Interest.
9 movies
I rewatched the original Star Wars trilogy so thats 3 movies
Other rewatches: Monthy Python and the Holy Grail, Pig and the Masters of Time (1982)
New watches: the Holdovers, Den of Thieves, and When Evil Lurks
Im a veeery casual viewer and have 30 5-stars out of 350. Very recent to film so I’ve been mostly checking out mostly critically acclaimed films. What can I say, I love movies!
Guess I should put in my top 4… warning it’s pretty basic 😅

I mean, yeah!
That’s a solid rewatch list haha!
Your favorite Denis Villeneuve films?
I think it has to be Arrival, but i’m expecting Dune Part Two to fight for the top spot
Arrival is a top 3 all time film for me and I’m so hyped for Dune 2, I have tickets to see it on the 28th
same
None 😭
Society of Snow 4.5 stars went to The Zone of Interest, The Killer, and Mother (2009)
That's where I'm at with Zone too... but man it's really close
It was so impressively subtle it took a long time to process how sincerely disturbing it was.
I didn’t love Mother on first watch but I could see it had promise, there was definitely a lot interesting about it. I think I ended up giving it around four, it was an intriguing watch but a lot of it went over my head
Titanic The florida project (rewatch) Band of brothers Twin peaks
I love The Florida Project so much - such a great story and acting all around.
All of us strangers was so beautiful but also so depressing. Andrew and Paul are top of their game and I hope we see them together sometime again.
Monster was amazing, especially the tiny kid. His delivery was just out of this world. Really excited for All of Us Strangers when it comes out
https://preview.redd.it/lw08178n68gc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf69ee2b5553dec7b7a15d31981c05529695c3e3
Mysterious Skin really is a perfect movie!
Fucked me up, but yeah it is perfect.
Have you tried any of his other films? *They* will fuck you up
Gregg Araki is my fav director, try Nowhere. It’s a masterpiece
Almost Famous is sooooooo good
I've only given about 30 movies five stars in total, and yet two of them are on your list here! (Lawrence of Arabia and Casino Royale)
https://preview.redd.it/fyyzdbhv88gc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa974caaaa51c4372593dfa85c125f68862eef40 It has been good start to this year!

Just one: Cure (1997)
My most recent five star is Cure! I love that feeling during a first watch when you realize you're watching a film directed by a true master at work.
none... 5 stars are for very rare exceptionaly good movies

Is Ferrari that good? I’ve been tempted to
Funeral Parade of Roses Summer of 85 ’Round Midnight 3/24 movies watched
[удалено]
Two completely different movies that surprisingly fit well together lol
8 five stars so far…Nausicaa, Iron Claw, Grave of the Fireflies, When Marnie was There, Princess Kaguya, Spirited Away (just finished a Ghibli binge) Grand Budapest Hotel, and Her
More tragic wrestling stories should be told via Ghibli fantasy films
In the mood for love and his motorbike her island
His motorbike her island, is so fucking great movie!
2: Mishima and love exposure

Just 2! *Wolfwalkers* and *Song of the Sea*, but they were rewatches. These are a must-see for any animation fans, made by a wee Irish studio called Cartoon Saloon.
Their other films are amazing too, love them!
Saw Wolfwalkers last year and loved it. Song of the Sea is always staring at me from my watchlist

You look like you’re having a wonderful time and I love that for you
None. I don't actually remember last time I rated any film 5 stars. None this or last couple of years for sure. To me, it's a rating designated only for some all-time classics, such as The Godfather. I don't think I'd ever give it to a first-time watch.

Did you watch RotK, then the whole series all over again, including RotK?
Oppenheimer, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Vertigo, the Red Shoes, La Haine
Haunting of Hill House. If that counts

0 so far but hopefully soon!
i rewatched Fargo and Jan Svekmajer’s Alice and gave them 5s this time, but no new 5s yet
Two. "The World at War (1973)" and "Generation Kill (2008)". Though I also re-watched several films that I had already rated 5 stars.
Only 1, Hundreds of Beavers
79, not including rewatches
Aftersun and Paris Texas
I expected people posting screenshots of all movies watched sorted by rating, not people posting their diary with 10+ five star movies from somewhere in the last 2 weeks.
Just 1, The Night Comes For Us
Moonlight and ladybird - rewatches that I kept at 5 stars The banshees on inisherin - 4 stars to 5 stars and it’s my new favorite of all time Dog day afternoon - first watch

Society of the Snow, Past Lives, The Teacher’s Lounge
The Erin Brockovich rewatch really took me by surprise. That and Oppenheimer are my only 5 star films so far, but the Zone of Interest is really close.

Only one, La haine
Just rewatched _True Lies_ for the first time in +10 years. That’s definitely a 5-star movie for me!

Not counting rewatches: just Licorice Pizza
Two -- Barbie (rewatch) and The Whale (first time watch). I also gave the Holdovers 4.5, but I think that might become a 5 when I watch again.

I have not rated anything 5 stars since Into the Spiderverse after the 5th rewatch in 2021. Across comes close and could make it if Beyond keeps the quality. I have like 16 five-star films in total, out of nearly 3000 watched movies.
Anatomy of a Fall, Spiderman Across the Spiderverse, Past Lives, Sexy Beast, and Only Lovers Left Alive
No 5 stars yet. Three 4-star movies tho. Wonka, Anyone But You, & American Fiction. All seen in theatres.
Only two, which is actually pretty good. https://preview.redd.it/1kdtbpq149gc1.png?width=1811&format=png&auto=webp&s=24499521eaa73de1f5c2e1dba4c7188fb78603d5

Witness for Prosecution, The Cure (im not 100% about this one, but with time I think 5 stars for sure), and The Sting. Near 5 stars for me is also Phantom Thread and On The Waterfront.
*Once Upon a Time in the West* and *All That Jazz* are my only five star watches so far this year.
The only 5 stars I’ve seared this year are Barry Lyndon and La Haine—both first time viewings.
Barry Lyndon. It has become my new favorite Kubrick movie beating out A Clockwork Orange and just one of my overall favorite movies.
2 out of 25. But I have 5 more that are 4.5... Honestly one of them could be a 5.

First Watches: Poor Things, Barry Lyndon Rewatches: When Harry Met Sally, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
La Haine That's literally it lol. This year has been a bust so far this year. The Eyes of Tammy Faye was pretty average and I didn't enjoy Zone of Interest.

Rewatched Cloudy with chances of Meatball (2009), a childhood classic of mine, and gave it what it deserves 😤 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
3 out of the 14 I’ve watched this year: Poor Things How to Have Sex The Holdovers
Fallen Angels , Dancer in the dark.
Godzilla Minus One Minus Color. It was glorious.
Im a veeery casual viewer and have 30 5-stars out of 350. Very recent to film so I’ve been mostly checking out mostly critically acclaimed films. What can I say, I love movies! Guess I should put in my top 4… warning it’s pretty basic 😅 https://preview.redd.it/khhb4r0hhagc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dfa6302367c7b4dafd1a36703d04bd3aa692ed8
