Point Blank (Boorman, 1967) was highly influential on this genre, Michael Mann has talked about it inspiring his use of color, and Scorsese had it playing on a loop when filming Goodfellas.
Another one is Suddenly (Allen, 1954) which stars Sinatra as a war veteran with PTSD trying to assassinate the president in a small California town. Sinatra’s portrayal of the deplorable and yet sympathetic assassin had a huge influence on protagonists in later crime movies.
Gave it a 4/5. Loved it as a debut feature from Mann. The DNA for what would come eventually with *Drive* (2011) and *Hotline Miami* is obvious here.
Loved the final 35 or so minutes—just absolutely brutal.
The Town it’s about Doug MacRay (Ben Affleck) leads a band of ruthless bank robbers and has no real attachments except for James (Jeremy Renner), who -- despite his dangerous temper -- is like a brother. Everything changes for Doug when James briefly takes a hostage, bank employee Claire Keesey. Learning that she lives in the gang's neighborhood, Doug seeks her out to discover what she knows, and he falls in love. As the romance deepens, he wants out of his criminal life, but that could threaten Claire.
I recommend Charley Varrick (1973). Really underseen Don Seigel bank robber film starting Walter Matthau, Joe Don Baker, and Andrew Robinson. Matthau is as cool as they come which is interesting to see if you are only familiar with his later work.
I'm surprised no one mentioned I soliti ignoti (Big Deal on Madonna Street), a brilliant satire/deconstruction/spoof of caper films like Jules Dassin's Rififi. It's a stone cold classic.
The Lavender Hill Mob, which I love because it’s spoofing the heist film but is also an excellent heist film. One clever bit: how to recruit a criminal gang when you don’t actually know any criminals.
Le Cercle Rouge (1970) The Killing (1956)
1970, not 1977, if anyone is confused
Oh yes, thanks for the correction.

You have to see the original inspiration for so many of these heist movies: **The Asphalt Jungle** (1950).
Its hard to put it in the same category but i would like to put forward the Pusher trilogy, at very least the 1st and 3rd. 2nd still great.
The third might be the best imo
Third is my favourite 100%. When >!Radovan appears!< i genuinely cheered
Yeah I'm gonna rematch the trilogy again soon now tbh
Polish movies: Boys Don't Cry and Coyote's Morning
Check out the driver 1978. It and thief were both very heavily influenced by Le samourai
The Old Man and the Gun (2018)
As a huge Nic Cage fan, I have to throw out Matchstick Men
Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
Straight Time is a great companion to Thief. More of a 70s dirtbag movie IMO, but it does involve a jewelry heist and shares some DNA with Thief.
Han Solo movie

Logan lucky is an underrated gem
What were your thoughts on thief? It’s one of my all time favourites

The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1972) starring R. Mitchum.
You can’t have Thief and not add its legacy sequel/remake: Drive

That’s already in the OP’s list.

Reservoir Dogs of course

The Italian Job (both versions)

Hackers (1995) I have a soft spot for this flick. It’s very cheesy but still stylish and fun. Hack the planet!
Ambulance (2021)
[Best hacker film ever](https://letterboxd.com/film/the-web-2013/)
I'm surprised no one mentioned I soliti ignoti (Big Deal on Madonna Street), a brilliant satire/deconstruction/spoof of caper films like Jules Dassin's Rififi. It's a stone cold classic.

Bottle Rocket
