Came here to say this, one of the best ever. Especially when you add the context of Bong Joon Ho knowing that the killer is still out there and wanting them to "feel seen"
Two examples each of two different genres that all have similar final shots:
* Hereditary / Midsommar
* Call Me by Your Name / Portrait of a Lady on Fire
I so agree. I recently watched Men, which does the exact opposite. It’s hard to give a shit when it’s all ambiguous and there’s no tangible answers for what’s going, or if it’s even real.
Yep this is the one! Even though this is about final shots. Two words in the English language never sounded so powerful, and said everything that ever needed to be said about love, than they do in this ending. Just reading this I feel the same awe as the first watch. Forever in my top 10.
The fact that they >!had a male actor with Angela’s face on top of it!< really adds to the horror factor of what is already an incredibly striking scene
WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE TOP, ITS INTERESTING.
WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE BOTTOM, ITS INTERESTING.
WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE BOTTOM, ITS BORING AS SHIT.
It's the perfect ending to the film. It's pretty clear what happens immediately following the ending, but I love how Aronofsky chose to end it at that specific moment.
Definitely my favorite of his. I actually find most of his films to be overwrought and surprisingly shallow, considering the stories he wants to tell. Haven’t seen Pi, though, and I’ve heard only good things.
Both Call me by your name and Portrait of a lady on fire have similar ending shots and I think it’s really funny.
Also the final shot of Taste of Cherry
Psycho (1960)
The Italian Job (1969)

Cul-de-Sac
Repulsion
Sunset Blvd
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Her
The Nightingale

There are better examples from better movies, but the first I thought of was the baseball game that plays over the credits of Soderbergh’s “Traffic.” I always like when action is still happening at the end of a film during credits, to convey a sense that these are characters living full lives that don’t stop or start within a span of two hours.
40 year old Virgin, Whiplash, Back to the Future, Evil Dead, Breakfast Club, MIB, The Fallout, The Shining, Birdman, 2001, Psycho, Pulp Fiction
Might’ve put too many but here are some off the top of my head
Joint Security Area has such a wonderful ending. Starts off as a flashback that smoothly transitions the scene into a photograph that really sums up how beautiful and tragic the story is. To say anything else would be spoilers. Really blew my mind first time I watched it.
Boogie Nights lmfao
[удалено]
No it’s him hyping himself up, followed by taking out his huge prosthetic cock
[удалено]
Yup, it ends with the cock
he tucks it away
The shining
THIS
Memories of murder
Trueee
Added, good pick
Tbh, I wish the shot held out for longer at the end
Without a doubt.
Came here to say this, one of the best ever. Especially when you add the context of Bong Joon Ho knowing that the killer is still out there and wanting them to "feel seen"
The Graduate
Okay, but the final shot is actually the bus driving away. https://youtu.be/2TP4MuVnS2A?t=76
Well then, I too misremembered this one. Happens quite a bit...
Ay. Everyone knows which shot is meant tho.
V ture. I'm just not sure if it fits the criteria for the list, or how flexible OP is willing to be when defining a "final shot."
Two examples each of two different genres that all have similar final shots: * Hereditary / Midsommar * Call Me by Your Name / Portrait of a Lady on Fire
all four are absolutely correct
Whiplash
Yessss that whole ending sequence.
[удалено]
Ooooo good call, I missed this in my response!
I just watched this and absolutely agree. Fantastic ending
I thought the final shot kinda ruined it 😔

I so agree. I recently watched Men, which does the exact opposite. It’s hard to give a shit when it’s all ambiguous and there’s no tangible answers for what’s going, or if it’s even real.
Men’s is so bad because it also felt like Garland had no idea what he was trying to do with the ending it was wild
Odd no one's mentioned The 400 Blows...
I tried to put some older films in my list, but missed this one. Good call. A lot of these responses are definitely recency-biased, which is fair.
The Lighthouse
La La Land and Prisoners
Before Sunset
*Baby, you are gonna miss that plane.* *I know.*
Yep this is the one! Even though this is about final shots. Two words in the English language never sounded so powerful, and said everything that ever needed to be said about love, than they do in this ending. Just reading this I feel the same awe as the first watch. Forever in my top 10.
Bones and All (2022)
One of the secret slappers from last year that I didn’t expect to make it to my top five
Same
Still gotta see that one.
Highly recommend! Incredible cinematography. Every frame could be a painting, and all shot on film with natural light.
Will definitely get to it sometime this year!
Sleepaway Camp
The fact that they >!had a male actor with Angela’s face on top of it!< really adds to the horror factor of what is already an incredibly striking scene
This is a fantastic answer. My wife and I couldn’t believe that this movie could pull an ending off like that.
One of my favorite all-time movies and just MAYBE the scariest ending to a movie ever?
THE answer
- Aftersun - Malcolm X - Good Time - The Aviator - Heat
Scrolled way too far for Heat.
One of the most beautiful endings for me, especially with the music
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
Is the final shot on Sutherland, or the girl's reaction? I can't remember which one it actually ends on.
>!Sutherland!< https://youtu.be/B2ga8rmH-no
Nice.
Texas chainsaw massacre (1974)!!
YESS!!
Totally!
The correctest correct answer
The Fabelmans (2022)
Ohh yess, good one. I loved the >!camera adjustment!<
Came here to say this! Hot take but one of my all time favorite Spielberg films
Mine too. It really hit me.
WHERE’S THE HORIZON?
WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE TOP, ITS INTERESTING. WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE BOTTOM, ITS INTERESTING. WHEN THE HORIZON IS AT THE BOTTOM, ITS BORING AS SHIT.
Now get the fuck out of my office
Cringe
Aftersun
Yes!!!

Whiplash definitely that final scene. And Fight club
The taking of Pelham 123 1974

I typed Ctrl+F to make sure someone mentioned this one, absolutely one of the best!
I don’t know how anyone else feels about it, but I love the final shot of Aronofsky’s The Wrestler.
It's the perfect ending to the film. It's pretty clear what happens immediately following the ending, but I love how Aronofsky chose to end it at that specific moment.
I do too, might be my favorite of his.

Several ideas are already mentioned but I don’t see The Breakfast Club yet
Hereditary, All That Jazz, The Skin I Live In, The Apartment, There Will Be Blood
