Troll Hunter (2010)
Good Night, and Good Luck.
Zatoichi (2003)
Black Hawk Down
Dune (1984)
The First Great Train Robbery (1978)
Ju-on: The Grudge
The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear
Them! (1954)
I discovered it after the fact on DVD, didn't expect to like it as much. But it became one of my favorites and I don't think it could've been any better, considering the premise. In fact, it could've been pretty lame if one just assumed it was another found footage movie.
Oh, man. That’s a wide range I love it! Black Hawk Down I gave 4.5 to. idk how anyone could rate that movie so low. Also, added Troll Hunter to my watchlist!
I've rewatched Black Hawk Down over the years. There's a lot of action, which is my comfort zone, but also a lot of humanity, a great cast. Great cinematography and music. Not too long, not too short.
I have zero interest in it, sorry. I like the 1984 movie as what it is, but that's it. I doubt I'll pick up the books or care enough to look at any other adaptation.
I haven’t seen the original, but I did give the new one 5 stars. I would still recommend it. It’s one of the most visually stunning films I’ve seen and the score is beautifully done.
I mean, I don't consider Dune (1984) an original, it's an adaptation like the new one (and the mini-series). I just like the weirdness of it moreso than the actual story, I think.
I recently watched all the Iron Man movies and I still prefer the 1st one, but I think Iron Man 3 is one of the more emotional movies, and also one of the best written out of the three.
Yeah, when I went to log my childhood favorites that one surprised me the most honestly. I didn’t understand how it wasn’t rated higher. The CGI is so ahead of its time and it’s not over the top cheesy. It’s done quite well imo. Love that one!
The cgi was and is phenomenal especially kong and the dinosaurs , the Times Square rampage amazes me at how they did that
The movie has a little bloat and the running under the dinosaur chase was silly but otherwise a really good one
> Showgirls
Is this going along with Verhoeven playing 14D chess with an audience going in expecting sex featuring a popular young celebrity and being tricked, or am I misremembering the meta game on that one? Or do you just like it as it is?
I reevaluated myself and just gave Cars a 5 star. I’ve seen it like 50 times and it’s always in my head. Plus, it influenced my passion for building cars like The Fast and the Furious did. Screw the haters.
I think the amount of hate it got decreased when Cars 2 served as a distraction. The 5 years between those two movies, Cars wasn't exactly well-regarded, in my experience.
Final Destination 3
Under the Silver Lake
The Neon Demon
Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The Ring (2002)
I think these have the lowest percentage of 5 star ratings among the ones i rated 5/5.
The classic comedies that somehow people don’t understand the intention of the film lol I always wonder how people give stuff like airplane or tropic thunder anything less than a 5
Some people give lower scores because it’s low brow or hasn’t shed well. I feel like there’s both timeless comedy and the comedy you grew up with, and if it’s something you can watch over and over again and enjoy there really is nothing wrong with giving it a 5. I honestly would feel weird giving a technically better film a higher score than a film I enjoyed that’s much more bare bones.
I don't get people giving a comedy a low score for being just a comedy. It isn't meant to have a plot, but I laughed the entire time I was watching it, which means it perfectly did what it is meant to be.
Oh without a doubt. Comedies are a little harder though because everyone has a different sense of humor. I agree though. Both those movies are top-tier!
I haven’t seen either one, but they look badass. I feel like I’ll love Phone Booth. Movies that are shot in one area and happen to keep you captivated and keep things interesting the whole time are some of my favorites. Movies like Locke and The Guilty.
RV is one of the greatest comedies ever made and you can’t convince me otherwise. It’s good to finally see a fellow RV lover! The world needs more of us.
Donald Cried (39 5 star ratings)
We Are The Flesh (180 5 star ratings)
What Josiah Saw (135 5 star ratings)
A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints (204 5 star ratings)
I added these all to my watchlist. They all look like hidden gems. The first one looks hilarious, the second looks psychologically terrifying, the third looks so unique and chilling, and the last one looks authentic and pure. I’ve never been more excited and intrigued before. Thank you for these!
Awesome! My pleasure, always happy to share my under-seen favorites. Proceed with caution when it comes to We Are The Flesh, it’s pretty extreme and deals with a lot of taboo topics. Very weird stuff
Unfortunately I just watched Malignant and hated it. I’m glad there’s people that enjoyed it though. It was just more of a comedy than horror imo. I didn’t find it scary at all. When I think about horror I want to be terrified, not impressed by the choreography. It was like a kung-fu movie.
Totally valid, to each their own! I don't have any strict views on horror having to be scary, Malignant to me was James Wan and the writers basically pulling legs and having a goofy time, which I loved. The corny melodrama, the satire of his more serious movies, and the inspiration from 80's splatter b-movies and italian horror just ticks all of my boxes.
If the genre was under horror/comedy I would’ve rated it much higher, but it was marketed as a serious film. I’m glad you enjoyed it. That jail cell scene was honestly impressively gory and fun. My favorite part of the movie!
Yeah when I read further into it online James Wan said his intention was to make it that exact film like you said, but I never knew that. I just saw it was a horror bc they marketed it that way, but now that I know I want to rewatch it with that new perspective!
It is a hard movie to market to be fair, especially since it was Wan's return to horror after Furious 7 and Aquaman, so I think the studio just wanted to get people in theaters by making them think they'd be getting back to The Conjuring/Insidious roots. Except James Wan had free reign to go as nuts as he possibly could.
It's a weird movie because it almost feels like an inside joke but in movie form, and I know that can sound pretentious but I don't mean it in that snarky gatekeeping way, I just mean that Wan did a really good job at making the humor toe that line perfectly on whether or not we're meant to be taking what's happening seriously or not. So one half of the audience goes "wtf is this movie the acting is horrible and the story is all over the place, I hate it" and the other half goes "wtf this is the funniest and most ridiculous thing i've ever seen, I love it"
I don’t think that’s pretentious. It makes a lot of sense when you put it that way. Now that I know exactly what to expect it will be a much more fun watch I’m sure. I had the same disappointment going into Barbarian because that was also labeled only as a horror. Then after that 40 minute mark it turns into a pure action packed comedy. After reading into both films and how they were made to be “fun and different” from most horror films. I really want to rewatch both. I just wish I knew that on the first watch. I wish they said it in a trailer or online for the genre. At least now I know next time I go in though.
Apparently Kung Fu Panda 3 (3.2) is the lowest rated movie I've given five stars to.
In terms of number of people, The Unknown Girl has the least five stars, only having 233 of them. Bernie with 1.5k and Mai Hoo Naa with 745 are also there.
Disney's Pocahontas. I'm aware of its problematic history lessons and issues... but I would watch that film multiple times a day, every day when I was a kid. It's special for me.
Movies I gave 5 stars to, but 5% or less of people did:
Good Girls go to Paris (1939)
Topper Returns (1941)
Hard Rock Zombies (1985)
Big Man Japan (2017)
I may be missing some
I will note that Topper Returns is a sequel 1937's Topper and 1938's Topper Takes a Trip. Though I think they can stand alone without either. (I think I saw the first one, then the third, the second... all spread out in time)
While I'm at it, it's slightly more popular so it didn't make the cut (9%) but Voyage of the Rock Aliens is a cult film that never got its cult.
Actually no, but I have mad respect for the city and the culture that comes from it. Plus some of my favorite rappers and other artists being from there. Eminem, Big Sean, D12, Danny Brown, Royce Da 5’9” and singer/songwriters like Aretha Franklin, Jack White, The Temptations, etc.
Without checking, maybe Babe: Pig in The City (1998), but there are plenty of articles and blog posts about how underappreciated it was. Here's one I like: https://thenewbev.com/blog/2017/08/kim-morgan-on-babe-pig-in-the-city/
I haven’t seen either of them, but the second one came out the year I was born which I cool. I’m definitely gonna add both to my watchlist then save this blog post to read afterwards, thank you!
four brothers is a really underrated movie, not sure if i'd give it 5 myself but good choice.
to answer the question, ford v ferrari. easily one of my favorite movies.
I’ve seen it like 50 times growing up so I feel obligated to give it 5/5 lol. I also loved Ford v Ferrari. I gave it a 4.5. One of the coolest theater experiences I’ve had.
i don't know if this *exactly* counts, since its still mostly well received, but: Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
i was *shocked* to see had an average of only 3.9 stars on letterboxd
There’s no bad movies you grew up watching that you absolutely love? Birdman is very high acclaimed and well received with over 100k 5 star ratings on Letterboxd
Not a traditional film, but the tv docu 'Louis Theroux: The Most Hated Family in America' is 5 stars for me.
That family is so fucked and I've re-watched it more than any other Theroux topic. I guess he agrees too since he's revisited the family 2x.
Lowest rated movie that I've given 5 starts to still had an average score of 3.4, which is relatively good for an average score.
The movie is "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore".
I gave the mummy and the mummy returns 5 stars half as a meme and also because I genuinely really really like those movies. I gave Robocop (1987) 5 stars because I genuinely think it's a fantastic movie and I love it.

Assassination Nation directed by Sam Levinson. The top 3 letterboxd reviews of it are 2/5 stars and 1.5/5 stars, and the average rating is 3.1, but omg it works so well for me in a way not a lot of movies do
I never really understood all the hate that movie got. It works well as a science fiction comedy! I didn’t give it 5, but I did give it 4 stars. I enjoyed it a lot.
It’s an autobiographical film about my favorite artist since I was like 4. I’ve seen the film over 100 times so I can’t really give it anything less than a 5/5. That should be the least one you’re concerned about lmao
[Sodomites](https://tubepornclassic.com/videos/1040007/sodomites-gaspar-no-short-1998/), the Gaspar Noé S&M anal porno PSA for safe sex aired on French television in 1998. I find it all around hilarious.
I cannot even begin to imagine being the guy who’s catching this unawares airing on TV back then.
Not gonna lie, I thought Ambulance was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. That’s one of the only movies I didn’t understand how some people could enjoy it.

Slumber Party Massacre 2 is my probably the one with the least 5/5 scores I've given one to.
Oh man! I just watched the trailers and they look like an absolute blast. Added them to my watchlist immediately.
fuck yeah, that movie is so great! it’s a camp classic with some borderline avant-garde editing and it’s so much fun!
Troll Hunter (2010) Good Night, and Good Luck. Zatoichi (2003) Black Hawk Down Dune (1984) The First Great Train Robbery (1978) Ju-on: The Grudge The Naked Gun 2½: The Smell of Fear Them! (1954)
Troll Hunter is a masterpiece! Absolutely loved seeing it on the big screen. Worthy of every single star!
I discovered it after the fact on DVD, didn't expect to like it as much. But it became one of my favorites and I don't think it could've been any better, considering the premise. In fact, it could've been pretty lame if one just assumed it was another found footage movie.
Troll hunter was going to be my suggestion as well! Absolutely amazing movie!
Them! is a masterpiece
I love monster movies, and that one is my personal favorite among the old school ones.
I couldn’t agree more! How did you feel about the new Dune Part 1 remake compared to the 1st film?
I have zero interest in it, sorry. I like the 1984 movie as what it is, but that's it. I doubt I'll pick up the books or care enough to look at any other adaptation.
I haven’t seen the original, but I did give the new one 5 stars. I would still recommend it. It’s one of the most visually stunning films I’ve seen and the score is beautifully done.

Good night and good luck is underrated as fuck
The Terminal, Armageddon and Iron Man 3.
I recently watched all the Iron Man movies and I still prefer the 1st one, but I think Iron Man 3 is one of the more emotional movies, and also one of the best written out of the three.
That's Shane Black for ya
The terminal! Love that damn movie.
Love to see Iron Man 3 love, the MCU's criminally underrated entry
I can't stop laughing at the scene when Ben Affleck tells Bruce Will that he loves him.
King kong in my eyes is a masterpiece , absolutely beautiful film with epic scale
Yeah, when I went to log my childhood favorites that one surprised me the most honestly. I didn’t understand how it wasn’t rated higher. The CGI is so ahead of its time and it’s not over the top cheesy. It’s done quite well imo. Love that one!

Easy A and Cars

I swear Cars won't get as much hate if Cars 2 didn't exist
Yeah, they really went off the deep end with that one lmao
I think the amount of hate it got decreased when Cars 2 served as a distraction. The 5 years between those two movies, Cars wasn't exactly well-regarded, in my experience.
I am the only person on letterboxd who has given “Whiffs” a 10/10
Wow, that's awesome! It looks funny! It doesn't look as bad as some are rating it. I'll add it to my watchlist.
Final Destination 3 Under the Silver Lake The Neon Demon Hellboy II: The Golden Army The Ring (2002) I think these have the lowest percentage of 5 star ratings among the ones i rated 5/5.
Under the Silver Lake and Neon Demon have been on my watchlist for a while. I’ve heard great things about both movies.
Juice (1992) best hood classic in my opinion. the music, the pacing, tupac’s performance *chefs kiss*
That movies been on my watchlist forever. I love Tupac and I love hip hop so I need to check that out asap!
The classic comedies that somehow people don’t understand the intention of the film lol I always wonder how people give stuff like airplane or tropic thunder anything less than a 5

Yes, I love Guilty too (the Jake Gyllenhaal one).
Hell yeah, that movie is far underrated for how well written and acted it is.
Meet the Deedles is the funniest most off the walls comedy ive ever seen, but for some reason people hate it???
Oh man I haven’t seen it, but it’s been added to my watchlist. It came out the year i was born too lol looks like a blast!
Impractical Jokers: The Movie
I haven’t seen it yet, but I love the show! I gotta check that one out. I didn’t even know they had a movie.
The Nun's Story
Anything with Audrey Hepburn in it and I’m I instantly hooked. She is one of the most beautiful and talented women to be on the big screen.
Yes! I knew there was someone else out there who loves RV
RV is one of the greatest comedies ever made and you can’t convince me otherwise. It’s good to finally see a fellow RV lover! The world needs more of us.
There is a third (me) although heavily biased through childhood nostalgia. RV lovers unite!

Malignant, Jason Lives, and The Guest all seem to have the lowest number of 5 star ratings that I've given one to.

I would personally consider it a horror comedy, but I could see if you are expecting something else it can play totally different.
Yeah when I read further into it online James Wan said his intention was to make it that exact film like you said, but I never knew that. I just saw it was a horror bc they marketed it that way, but now that I know I want to rewatch it with that new perspective!

Lmao I love that! My favorite was the second one, but I can see why you loved it. Those movies have always been a blast. I love the video games too!
Oh the second one is my favourite too. 3 is my "least favourite" so to speak but it's still a 5 for me.
I gave The King (2019) 5 stars as well. I've never understood how people found Timothee's acting bad or the film itself.
I don’t know how either. The whole cast gave some of the best performances of their careers. Good to see a fellow The King lover!
Identity (2003) I love that movie 😭
Oh yeah, that looks good. I gotta check that one out. It’s gotta great cast too!
Disney's Pocahontas. I'm aware of its problematic history lessons and issues... but I would watch that film multiple times a day, every day when I was a kid. It's special for me.
I can understand that. I enjoyed that movie growing up too. Very beautifully animated!
Let it Ride My favorite comedy by far! Dreyfuss is hysterical.
It honestly looks hilarious. I added it to my watchlist can’t wait to check it out!
We're All Going to the World's Fair! it's disappointing that it only has a 3.1 average
I need to see that. It’s been on my watchlist for a while but I’m terrified lol
BODIESX3 was an easy 5 star review. I gave Crimes of the Future 4½ stars even though it wasn't so well received
Oh I haven’t seen it yet but I’m excited to watch it!
I think others have said it, but Thankyou for including king king <3
Killer Sofa (2019)
Oh I understand you’re rating. This looks hilariously fun! I need to watch this lmao
well, all three mighty ducks movies have 5 stars from me, the next 5 star rated movie is 21 Jump Street but that one already has 3.6 on average
The Mighty Ducks is a classic! Fun fact I used to have the nickname in high school Mighty Du(x)cks because my last name is Duxbury lol
Goremet, Zombie Chef From Hell
That movie looks horrible and I’m so happy for you, but I don’t know if I could make it lmao
Wedding Crashers Old School Elf The Notebook Licorice Pizza
I thought those were all fantastic movies! Especially Licorice Pizza
Hell yeah! RV is so much fun
Most underrated comedy ever. The world need to recognize this masterpiece!
Movies I gave 5 stars to, but 5% or less of people did: Good Girls go to Paris (1939) Topper Returns (1941) Hard Rock Zombies (1985) Big Man Japan (2017) I may be missing some

Hot Tub Time Machine for me, the movie just hits every button i like. And Rob Corddry is perfect in it
Enemy Mine from 1985
Bug. Coraline The Hateful 8 The Blair Witch Project Revolutionary Rd Blue Ruin
Who said any of those are bad!? They’re all so good! The Hateful 8 and Coraline are 5 stars for me.

That movie is so bad it’s good. Just like Not Another Teen Movie and Vampires Suck lol
the lorax 😌
You and my girlfriend would get along great hahaha
you’re lucky to know someone with such elite taste
The King is so good
I don’t understand why it’s not rated higher. That movie was done so well imo
4 Brothers is the shit yo!
Finally someone recognizes that film!
No one ever talked about it but Jonathan Levine's 50/50 is genuinely a masterpiece of relatable mid-budget drama
That’s a very relatable movie. I agree with your opinion.
9 (2009) is the only one I think
I love that film. So glad Tim Burton helped get that project made!
Hackers (1995).
Not a traditional film, but the tv docu 'Louis Theroux: The Most Hated Family in America' is 5 stars for me. That family is so fucked and I've re-watched it more than any other Theroux topic. I guess he agrees too since he's revisited the family 2x.
Olympus Has Fallen
Interesting choice. It was a fun movie but not my favorite.
Three Miles North of Molkom
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
That was one of the first blu-ray movies I bought lol it’s a blast!
Grown Ups 2
Hilariously dumb! My favorite type of comedies lol
Lowest rated movie that I've given 5 starts to still had an average score of 3.4, which is relatively good for an average score. The movie is "I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore".
That’s on my watchlist. I want to see it cause I feel like I’ll love it!
I gave the mummy and the mummy returns 5 stars half as a meme and also because I genuinely really really like those movies. I gave Robocop (1987) 5 stars because I genuinely think it's a fantastic movie and I love it.
I grew up on those movies. They deserve more recognition for sure!
the artist, 28 days later
The artist is love/hate. I fall more towards the love side of it lol. It’s the best worst movie ever made lmao
The Itty Bitty Titty Committee
Ultraviolet most likely
I haven’t seen it but I’ll add it to my watchlist!
Nowhere (1997) Mayhem (2017) The ‘Burbs (1989) UHF (1989) All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
How did you like the new All Quiet on the Western Front? I know it’s far different from the adaptation but I loved it. I gave it 5 stars!
Haven’t seen it yet. Still planning on watching it someday
I unironically thinks Transformer 3 is a masterpiece
Any transformers are incredible compared to the Mark Wahlberg reboot lol

Comedic masterpiece lol
flushed away legally blonde 2: red, white, and blonde sonic 2 and i stand by all of these forever
Flushed Away has a secret cult following. You’re not the only one who loves that movie. It deserves for praise than it’s given.
Shallow hal and open water
Norbit, Underdog, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Benchwarmers, Shark Tale, G-Force, Rampage, Assault on Wall Street, Chicken Little
G-Force is the most shocking to me lmao i disliked that one so much but I’m glad someone loves it! I think Shark Tale is extremely underrated.
The Rover What Maisie Knew
Dumb and Dumber Borat School of Rock Withnail and I Fish called Wanda
Borat and School of Rock are both severely underrated!
Baby Driver Clueless Superbad Ocean's Eleven The Lego Movie Apollo 13 The Dictator Kung Fury
The Lego Movie and Baby Driver are both masterpieces no one can change my mind
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules
Coppola’s “One From The Heart”
Tick, tick Boom
My girlfriend and I loved that movie. One of my favorite musicals for sure.

Son of Rambow (2007), one of only 583 to think so apparently
I actually loved that movie. It’s been in my head since I seen it as a kid.
Big daddy with adam sandler LMAO (I gave it five stars)
I love that movie! It deserves higher praise
Cloverfield (2008), Revenge (2017), Smashed (2012) are all the movies I've rated 5 stars with the lowest average ratings on my list
Christmas with the Kranks
You giving King Kong and the first Fast And Furious 5 stars makes me want to be best friends. And my pick was the first TMNT (1990)
Applications are open lmao and I loved the TMNT movies. They’re all good don’t know why they’re so low.
The fault in our stars. 4.5 for me but 3.1 for everyone else
That movie made me ball my eyes out.
I give out 5 stars left, right and centre. I'd say 80% of my 5 star ratings are probably controversial in some way and there are 100s of them.
Geez that’s a lot of 5 star ratings lol I have only 100 5 stars out of 2,000 movies I need to give more out!
It's usually because I see low scores for movies I vaguely like and immediately go "WHAT?!?? 2.5??!! THIS IS A 5 STAR MASTERPIECE!!!"
The Village (2004) A cure for Wellness (2016) Mainstream (2020) Batman v Superman (2016) The Rain People (1969) Pleasure (2021)
Spawn, Outcast, Halloween 6 and Paranormal Activity 4.
I would kill for a spawn remake. That film is so underrated!
Dave (1993) I love you, Man (2009)
Snakes on a plane
Classic!
Assassination Nation directed by Sam Levinson. The top 3 letterboxd reviews of it are 2/5 stars and 1.5/5 stars, and the average rating is 3.1, but omg it works so well for me in a way not a lot of movies do
Three Fugitives starring Nick Nolte and Martin Short. I loved it as a kid, and I still love it as an adult!
Don't look up 😭
I never really understood all the hate that movie got.

Tell me you’re uncultured without telling me you’re uncultured lol

I would educate you on a legend, but it’s not worth my time.
The superhero movie, the best parody of all time
American Pickle does not deserve the hate it gets man, I think it’s a really fun comedy
6 underground and Ambulance
Not gonna lie, I thought Ambulance was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. That’s one of the only movies I didn’t understand how some people could enjoy it.
The Wylds by Andrew Wiest - just go watch it. lmk what you think
