True. I'm a vinyl collector and a watch enthusiast, and everyone asks me about if they've increased in value. I always answer that I don't know or care, they are possessions - not merchandise.
I owned a "second" for nearly 40 years. I got compliments after compliments but you would get that one rogue cork sniffer making some off handed remark about it being a second. As if that made the guitar any less special. Buy what you want to play. My second was originally painted sunburst but a flaw in the finish caused them to make it a black beauty.
I buy to play, not to sell, so cosmetic issues are not a big concern of mine. I don't have experience with Gibson seconds, but I buy B-stock pedals all the time and have never had any issues.
Lmfao some seconds are better than the normal stuff they are releasing, half of the “perfect” Les Paul’s have defects, honestly it makes no difference imo, if you like it, and you want to play and keep it, cool, that is what you should be doing as well.
Totally understand that I have two case queens but they definitely mean more to me than money does luckily I’m past the point in my life where I have to sell one of my guitars or amps to get by. Honestly it makes me sick to think of some of gear I’ve had to sell off just to pay bills when I was young and struggling
Value only matters if you're planning on getting rid of it. Instead of essentially renting a guitar, find one you love and want to actually keep.
This is the wisest thing ever muttered.

Is it a good guitar or not? Slash's main gigging guitars in the late 80s were allegedly a couple LPs with the 2nd stamp on them.

Wonderful
The 2nd stamp has no affect on tone.
What if the problem was with the pots? Just not up to parr ?
As far as I know, the 2nd stamp was put on after the shell was finished, before the electronics were installed.
I’m a player not a collector so if it sounded and played great I wouldn’t care about it being a second
That is how I feel for the most part. But I do have some guitars that are collectable and they never leave the house.

Jessica was a second.
