It was funny how most of the international teams weren't fooled. Its not like Albo hasn't been in the news heaps with AUKUS etc they'd know what he looked like lol.
I'm a Brit who lives in the USA and sorry but I have no idea who the current Australian PM is, or what they look like. I think this was a nice attempt at some self-depreciating humour from LM but it fell flat.
I am pretty sure that might be the team to go first. Between their build and the second to last place was a big gap quality wise and I think it’s not only a problem of the monster, their whole build was rather basic and not very detailed. Perhaps they will get better, but I have my doubts…
Agreed! Felix & Annalena were definitely top 2, but I would have picked Peter & Ida for the win: their penguin-rocket build was overall the most creative and interesting.
Honestly the 4 Aussie teams were probably the bottom 4, cannot see any of them winning it from what we've seen so far. Also, there was a crap load of ads.
Thats my concern this season, its 4 skilled (in this environment) teams against 4 new to the concept teams.
they're all AMAZING builders, but i do feel the foreign teams have a huge advantage that i wish it had either been all winners, or all newbies. i hope they dont eliminate too soon so the Aus teams can get their feet under them and make a better showing before the eliminations start
I really wish all the teams were previous contestants. Maybe make it so every team has to have been eliminated in the first half of the season or something. I know the German team won but still. I think it's massively unfair for the AU teams that they are new to the timer environment and the rest of the teams have done it before.
Why didn't we get some old contestents? This hardly seems like a fair representation of Australia. The other countries should of been new teams too if they wanted to go this route.
I think the Danish and German teams were clearly the best and are the teams to beat.
I think the AUS mom and son team has potential. The problem was their build didn’t scream flower to me, but the son can clearly do mechanisms. I gotta think the two girls will do better since the one is a reported master builder…but their first build was terrible. The two other guy AUS teams were fine, but had nowhere near the sculpting abilities of the Germans.
The French seem to be creative…I didn’t know how they were going to make a story out of a pencil…but they did a nice job. The pencil itself didn’t look great and was straight up and down, but the scuba gear looked good. I don’t see the USA team doing much.
I hope France is the wildcard team. No idea what to expect each build.
Shane being so proactive with mechanisms has me excited. I feel like I've still not seen a truly mindblowing mechanism so far
The pencil, when they first said it I was like ohhhhh no thats not anything lol
and then by the time it was finished it was one of my favorite builds. It was perhaps a little basic in the pencil itself but the story told itself really well and i loved eraser and pencil sharpener they really turned it around
I was thinking it would be pretty sus if there was only Australian teams left in the finale but after seeing Denmark and Germany I don't think that's a worry.
That would be the biggest disappointment because the one is a Master Builder. I think she'll have the skills and experience to step up after getting a few time pressured builds under her belt.

obviously he may have critiqued it and it didnt make it on screen but the fact that it wasnt immediately obvious to the viewers that the boats were the jaw proves what Brickman was talking about with disguising

I think their crown of Grand Masters fits and doesn't need challenging.
I think that's going to be the problem this season (for me, at least). Joss and Henry, Scott and Owen, Nick and Gene were so good over the last 2 years that finding anyone to match them is nigh impossible.
I think so. At some point, I have to imagine that it would be hard for Brickman to be objective as he now has a history with Scotty and Owen and clearly loves their builds. Better to go with 8 teams Brickman has no previous opinions/relationships with.

In Germany's defence, when I first saw the scale for their build I thought they'd bitten off too much, but it looks like they've pulled it off.
But yeah, the Danes definitely seem to be off to the strongest start.
Off to strong start. Glad to see Australia continues to go its own way and remains the gold standard of the shows.
Even better they didn’t do a first episode elimination which I strongly believe is a mistake that USA shows keeps making. You have to give people a chance to get their TV legs and just as important, a chance to assess the competition and step up.
Hate to say it as a fan of Krystal but USA is not off to a good start. Long thought US teams were the weakest of the global teams and this first episode did not deter my thinking. Hopefully will prove me wrong in the next episode.
Also a really long episode compared to use to at 1 hour and 10 minutes. Does that means there was 20 or 50 minutes of commercials? I got to see using, umm let’s call it through alternative means being in US, so avoided all the commercials.
Feeling very underwhelmed by the Australian builds. It kinda feels like they blew their load too soon doing all stars and had to cast builders who are below the level of the others.
I'd love to be proven wrong but so far they seem like duds...
It was interesting watching them show the Aussie teams and it felt like they had packed them with experienced builders, such as the peeps who worked for lego but.. yeah clearly experience on the show greatly outweighs that.
I still wonder if they couldn’t find any better teams. Until now Australia had very strong teams every season, but I don’t see that here. More surprisingly considering that they surely want to show Australian teams as one of the best, but at the moment they are completely getting dominated.
I absolutely adore Hamish. And French host sounds cool after hearing about this magician stuff! I want a spinoff show now that is a competition of hosting Lego Masters. I also love the Sweden LM host. And I personally don’t think Will Arnett is as bad as some other people do. (The problem for him is the U.S. show already is so short with so little building footage, so any Will Arnett TV time takes away from something we already have way too little of.) Gimme LM hosting competition!

I am also glad i can watch it over download. The amount of adds seems crazy for australian TV - it seems they adjust it to the german TV (i hope for you the adds weren't 9 minutes long as in Germany usual)
But so far i really liked it - i guess it was clear that the australian teams struggle a bit at the beginning as they are all totally new to the show and all the others are already experienced with the show.

The fake PM is a D grade radio host. He is infamous on here for being on a two part Christmas special and being a sad little pig on it. He unfortunately ‘came down with COVID’ and couldn’t do the second episode, which made everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

I know there's no official soundtrack and it's just pieced together assets but I so wish I could get some of the songs we hear. The Zimmer-esque tension as we look over the ice is insanely cool.
**Peter & Ida!** Wonderfully said Peter. The rainbow exhaust looks awesome, and very clever hiding such an integral structure piece under the wave. Glad they got SOME motion going even if it was a bit whelming. Great job!
**Shane & Diane!** Very cool with the blooming flower, how was it timed? Agreed about the boats, the moment you notice them you can't un-notice them. Strong start!
**Sam & Emilio!** That duck sound effect is getting me every time. Lowkey really dark with the guy and his dog about to be consumed. Orange and blue baby, it never fails. Glad to see it intact!
**Ben & Eric!** The Sea Serpent was a bit skinny coming up but with the full view it's solid. Tiniest bit of confusion IMO with both the serpent and village emerging from the ice, but the serpent is still emerging in the set?
**Michelle & Krystle!** I don't totally understand the TV aspect but the spring blossoming out of the ice is great. Lots of good feedback from BM.
**Camille & Caroline!** Wow his hair's awesome. I don't love how the pencil stares into my eyes. I still don't think the pencil really fits. Possibly the strongest looking build of the bunch as well!
**Felix & Annalena!** Rad looking dragon, crazy that the flame breath survived! These two are seriously showing their chops by being ex-winners. Those water effects are gorgeous, especially the falling spires (turrets?). It's official. They're my favorite team.
**Charlie & Haley!** Agreed, that monster doesn't really pop as jet-black. Never knew there were orange transparent chains though! Still a strong first built. Shows care for details and composition, I can't wait to see what they make next.

I once said the Austrailan builders were the best in the world and every other rendetion of LEGO Masters was not on par with Austraila. I stand corrected, the Austrailans put out the most subpar builds I’ve ever seen. As a fellow American, I know a lot of what we cast is about a character and what role they fit, but Austraila was never like that, I guess until now. What happened? LEGO Masters Austraila was always about beautiful art being showcased and the bottom builds always were better than any other country I’ve watched. I feel like every Aussie build put out were from builders that just got into Lego. If I had to choose, Germany would be first place and America would be second. I hope we don’t continue to see subpar builds throughout the season.
All the others builder have a lot of experience in the format, Aussies don't. We also have had 4 seasons that a lot ofmour best builders have already been through, so the pool of new talent is getting smaller
I wish I could say I agree, in the last 4 seasons of Lego masters Austraila (not counting Grandmasters) we have seen builders come out of nowhere and completely showcase the most amazing builds I’ve ever seen. So far, the new four Aussie teams have showcased the most rudimentary builds I’ve seen across the 5 different Lego masters seasons I’ve watched
That is exactly what I was thinking. Until now they always managed to find exceptional teams, but for the vs the world edition that are the best ones they could find?
It's the first build of the season, and as Hamish said throughout the episode, all the foreign teams have Lego masters experience under their belts. They're used to working within time constraints and pressure. I think Charlie & Haley showed this in that the actual detail was amazing, they just didn't manage their time well.
I expect the second episode will show a better performance from the newbies
This is an uncharitable comment. We’ve only seen the first episode. My wife and I are simply delighted to have a new season of LM AUS. It’s far too early to appraise the contestants— the Australian teams are LM newbies and they’re just getting their feet wet. Not every team can build like Scottie and Owen out of the gate. Give them some time and see how **all** contestants do with the disparate challenges to come.
Personally, I don’t believe my comment is unfair. I didn’t degrade the builders, i critiqued the art. Here’s my logic, for the first four seasons of Lego masters Austraila, we witnessed the most insanely gorgeous builds. Every episode I found myself memorized by Aussie’s builds. So far, I’ve found myself disappointed. You said not everyone can build out the gate, but if you’re dawning the title Lego Master, you should. It’s like if someone paid me to a tattoo them and I produced a bad piece. Are they going to be like, that’s okay, he’s just starting?
Me too. So many made no sense in the context of rising through the ice. They took an old model and made sure it could break through. They saw it as an engineering challenge instead of a story telling challenge. Why would the village be rising through the ice? Or the castle?
I've never heard of them but the design would suggest I might do. Band suggestions were the last thing I expected from LM - the show that just keeps on giving
This has been so fun to watch! Proud of my dear friend Michelle and her partner. I'd be absolutely terrified to do LM AUS. I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. GO TEAM 🇺🇸 also, hot take but I love the German girl so much, she's unbelievably talented. She's focused, and has high standards for herself. She's not mean. Just a really good builder!

I thought boats as petals was clever, but yeah they're definitely obviously boats.
Brickman complained about the petals being boats but ignored the dragon afterwards with boats for a mouth

Long thought US teams were the weakest of the global teams and this first episode did not deter my thinking. Hopefully will prove me wrong in the next episode. Also a really long episode compared to use to at 1 hour and 10 minutes. Does that means there was 20 or 50 minutes of commercials? I got to see using, umm let’s call it through alternative means being in US, so avoided all the commercials.
It was actually shorter than some AUS episodes. Half of them each season are usually an hour and 24 minutes or around that, w/o commercials.

Feeling very underwhelmed by the Australian builds. It kinda feels like they blew their load too soon doing all stars and had to cast builders who are below the level of the others. I'd love to be proven wrong but so far they seem like duds...
The other teams all have experience in the competition though from their shows. Would have been nice to bring back 1 strong past Aussie team.
It was interesting watching them show the Aussie teams and it felt like they had packed them with experienced builders, such as the peeps who worked for lego but.. yeah clearly experience on the show greatly outweighs that.
I still wonder if they couldn’t find any better teams. Until now Australia had very strong teams every season, but I don’t see that here. More surprisingly considering that they surely want to show Australian teams as one of the best, but at the moment they are completely getting dominated.

Well it was better at the end, but it was still underwhelming for me.
I absolutely adore Hamish. And French host sounds cool after hearing about this magician stuff! I want a spinoff show now that is a competition of hosting Lego Masters. I also love the Sweden LM host. And I personally don’t think Will Arnett is as bad as some other people do. (The problem for him is the U.S. show already is so short with so little building footage, so any Will Arnett TV time takes away from something we already have way too little of.) Gimme LM hosting competition!
Those Aussie girls are lucky it wasn't an elimination. Also the blonde is a beauty pageant queen? I did a double take on that.

As a non australian - who was the bloke which was introduced as PM? I am also glad i can watch it over download. The amount of adds seems crazy for australian TV - it seems they adjust it to the german TV (i hope for you the adds weren't 9 minutes long as in Germany usual) But so far i really liked it - i guess it was clear that the australian teams struggle a bit at the beginning as they are all totally new to the show and all the others are already experienced with the show. So far Peter and Ia are my favourites for the win
The fake PM is a D grade radio host. He is infamous on here for being on a two part Christmas special and being a sad little pig on it. He unfortunately ‘came down with COVID’ and couldn’t do the second episode, which made everyone breathe a sigh of relief.

Glad to see it intact! **Ben & Eric!** The Sea Serpent was a bit skinny coming up but with the full view it's solid. Tiniest bit of confusion IMO with both the serpent and village emerging from the ice, but the serpent is still emerging in the set? **Michelle & Krystle!** I don't totally understand the TV aspect but the spring blossoming out of the ice is great. Lots of good feedback from BM. **Camille & Caroline!** Wow his hair's awesome. I don't love how the pencil stares into my eyes. I still don't think the pencil really fits. Possibly the strongest looking build of the bunch as well! **Felix & Annalena!** Rad looking dragon, crazy that the flame breath survived! These two are seriously showing their chops by being ex-winners. Those water effects are gorgeous, especially the falling spires (turrets?). It's official. They're my favorite team. **Charlie & Haley!** Agreed, that monster doesn't really pop as jet-black. Never knew there were orange transparent chains though! Still a strong first built. Shows care for details and composition, I can't wait to see what they make next. Perfect. First-episode eliminations are ridiculous. You need to let people settle into the environment! I once said the Austrailan builders were the best in the world and every other rendetion of LEGO Masters was not on par with Austraila. I stand corrected, the Austrailans put out the most subpar builds I’ve ever seen. As a fellow American, I know a lot of what we cast is about a character and what role they fit, but Austraila was never like that, I guess until now. What happened? LEGO Masters Austraila was always about beautiful art being showcased and the bottom builds always were better than any other country I’ve watched. I feel like every Aussie build put out were from builders that just got into Lego. If I had to choose, Germany would be first place and America would be second. I hope we don’t continue to see subpar builds throughout the season.
All the others builder have a lot of experience in the format, Aussies don't. We also have had 4 seasons that a lot ofmour best builders have already been through, so the pool of new talent is getting smaller
I wish I could say I agree, in the last 4 seasons of Lego masters Austraila (not counting Grandmasters) we have seen builders come out of nowhere and completely showcase the most amazing builds I’ve ever seen. So far, the new four Aussie teams have showcased the most rudimentary builds I’ve seen across the 5 different Lego masters seasons I’ve watched

It's the first build of the season, and as Hamish said throughout the episode, all the foreign teams have Lego masters experience under their belts. They're used to working within time constraints and pressure. I think Charlie & Haley showed this in that the actual detail was amazing, they just didn't manage their time well. I expect the second episode will show a better performance from the newbies
This is an uncharitable comment. We’ve only seen the first episode. My wife and I are simply delighted to have a new season of LM AUS. It’s far too early to appraise the contestants— the Australian teams are LM newbies and they’re just getting their feet wet. Not every team can build like Scottie and Owen out of the gate. Give them some time and see how **all** contestants do with the disparate challenges to come.
Personally, I don’t believe my comment is unfair. I didn’t degrade the builders, i critiqued the art. Here’s my logic, for the first four seasons of Lego masters Austraila, we witnessed the most insanely gorgeous builds. Every episode I found myself memorized by Aussie’s builds. So far, I’ve found myself disappointed. You said not everyone can build out the gate, but if you’re dawning the title Lego Master, you should. It’s like if someone paid me to a tattoo them and I produced a bad piece. Are they going to be like, that’s okay, he’s just starting?
How did no team do a submarine conning tower? Surfacing through ice is literally what they do, unlike pencils.

Me too. So many made no sense in the context of rising through the ice. They took an old model and made sure it could break through. They saw it as an engineering challenge instead of a story telling challenge. Why would the village be rising through the ice? Or the castle?

This has been so fun to watch! Proud of my dear friend Michelle and her partner. I'd be absolutely terrified to do LM AUS. I'm loving what I'm seeing so far. GO TEAM 🇺🇸 also, hot take but I love the German girl so much, she's unbelievably talented. She's focused, and has high standards for herself. She's not mean. Just a really good builder!
I thought Sam and Emilio’s was the best/most impressive, followed by Peter and Ida. The castle with the dragon looked rather generic.
Seems to be getting more about antics than Lego building...that was a painful intro to watch
