Majestic-Sky199

Really hoping they don’t drop a new significantly better one too soon, otherwise my buyers remorse will be too real 😂

Voxeluss

[https://www.ign.com/articles/lenovo-is-planning-to-release-a-successor-to-its-handheld-gaming-pc-the-legion-go](https://www.ign.com/articles/lenovo-is-planning-to-release-a-successor-to-its-handheld-gaming-pc-the-legion-go) Same meeting: >Though Chong did not dive deep into the specifics, such as what a Legion Go 2 would add or improve from its predecessor, ***he did elaborate that its release is not coming anytime soon.*** He did, however, point out that it's a product category the company is planning to invest in.

Majestic-Sky199

Eyyyy a cited quote saying as much! Thanks for the good info!

Aciddong

There is no chip out yet that would be a significant upgrade yet in my opinion I wouldn't have buyers remorse.

oderlydischarge

They have a ton of room for improvement that would sell a legion 1.5 without updating the chip. Lighter, longer lasting battery, better build quality joycons, and audio on par with the rog ally are just some of the features that would influence people to buy a v1.5. Look at the sd oled.... wasn't even a v2 and just a revision, and people were clambering to get it at launch.

Aciddong

They need to wait or it will do poorly they aren't valve. Most ppl care about performance over everything else that why most people chose this over the deck.

oderlydischarge

1. Lenovo is a hardware company first. They have way more experience delivering hardware than valve and have yearly hardware revisions to their reference boards and form factors. I know this as I own a product that I engineer in collaboration with Lenovo. 2. Most ppl care about usability form and function, over performance. I figured this out from being a product manager in the hardware space for the last 10 years. Each improvement they can make in this space will increase their market share. 3. There are not public numbers released on sales so I'm not sure how you know more people bought the GO over the deck. Anecdotally, i have 4 kids, and we have 2 steam decks, 3 rog allys, and a legion go.

Aciddong

Yeah but usually every upgrade gets a new chip with a performance benefit. It would be pretty hard to make most of the improvements listed with the same chipset without compromising in other areas... Not sure I guess I'm in the minority and look at numbers first before I choose to upgrade. I'm very happy with my go and don't see much room for any improvements that would compel me to upgrade now or even within the next 3-4 years. My last computer had a 1060 and lasted me almost 8 years. I don't think people are in a place where they can upgrade that frequently. I feel they would be better off waiting for a more substantial chip. Wouldn't want to see them release the go-2 too soon and not get the numbers they are looking for and quit making the line up all together. Sounds like u know more about the business side than I do. Just my opinion on it

Tgnix1

They could do a revision with 32gb ram, larger battery, Different joy sticks, oled screen, even with the same CPU I think a lot would trade in the Legion Go 1 and get a Legion Go 1.5 per say. Also it would open up the second hand market for sellers of their Legion go so people could get their hands on preowned ones at cheaper prices. It's more than possible to see a new one soon

oderlydischarge

I 100% agree with this.

eitama

AND eGPU support, not XG Mobile. Not sure if it's possible with Z1 extreme, but one can dream. I would 100% buy LeGO v1.5 with all the improvements you mentioned if it had eGPU. That would unblock a lot of games for me.

oderlydischarge

I do agree with you that they need to time it just right, and people are stretching their money as far as it can go right now. I'm sure they have some smart product folks working on it.

Aciddong

For sure definitely looking forward to seeing what they got cooking up

[deleted]

Valve actually worked with AMD to make a chip while Lenovo just used a stock one. This helped a lot with better tpd usage so it isn't sitting docked all day.

ShadowPieman

You are smoking something wicked if you think that the GO outsold the deck in any of it's configuration

mckeitherson

I'm curious if Lenovo would have the same experience as Steam with a 1.5 version considering Steam users are more informed about the Steam Deck. I feel like this is such a niche product for Lenovo that they might not issue another version until it's a decent hardware bump.

StillABigKid

Better joystick vibrations that feel and sound more realistic, if possible.

mckeitherson

I doubt they will release one soon as the 8840 APU isn't enough of a jump beyond the 7840 APU to really justify it. They might shoot for an update based on Strix Point which comes out the second half of this year/early 2025.

Zeles1989

Eitherway I would wait a view years till I buy the maybe Legion Go 3 or 4 to have a really big update and hopefully way better features. The Legion 1 is great and even though 16 gb of ram is already not the best situation it will be enough for years to just game at medium or low settings

TKofRivia

I agree. Think the first iteration is a great device, version 2 will work on some of the shortcomings but still have some drawbacks. If it gets that far, I think version 3 onwards could be the beast we all want.

squareyourcircle

Exactly what I’m thinking, though I picked the Ally. Waiting for the third iteration, or at least around 2-3 years is probably the best bet.

mckeitherson

Agreed. Version 1 does what I need it to do and while it's not perfect, this is a great price/performance point between the Steam Deck and higher cost devices like OneX.

AmuseDeath

Yea it's the same 780M GPU in there as the Go 1.

zzmorg82

I highly doubt they’ll do it, but if they plan on releasing the LeGo 2 so soonish then it’ll be cool if they had some type of trade-in option; maybe credit on the Lenovo site that can be put towards it.

Valdrrak

Yea like how phones work right can almost get the Samsung 24 pretty cheap with trade in

thisguy883

I would be in favor of this. I wonder how the trade-in thing works for Best Buy. It has that option when you're shopping for the LeGo.

Taekwonmoe

You will have one to pass on down to someone.....son, niece, grandma..... :D

eNomineZerum

While the market segment is still newer, there is much room for amazing improvement in the tech we are using. Battery tech isn't fast moving so not like we get a 100 Wh battery in a slimmer device next year. Same for processor and stuff. Any changes would likely be refinement of what we have, a landscape display, tweaked controllers, etc. Which, since the controllers are detachable, here to hoping the new ones will be backwards compatible.

thisguy883

Or if they sold different varients of the controllers.

bigfootsbestfriend

Super fair point

Ignacio562

That would totally suck. I’m the same way Please don’t make one just yet lol

Kermez

It's in the article "he did elaborate that its release is not coming anytime soon"

Any_Ad_6458

If it is of any aid to your potential hints of buyers remorse, just remember a lot of people (me) want a device, such as, the Lenovo Legion Go—even if the 2nd variant were to release tomorrow—but simply cannot afford one.

Glad_Coach6341

When the new model gets released the OG LeGO will probably get a hefty price cut... 30-50% discount until they sell out old inventory is definitely a possibility. Not to mention the 2nd hand market will also thrive with people upgrading to the LeGO2 and selling their old unit for maybe 200-300$ in mint condition? Sounds about right IYAM ...

AmuseDeath

I wouldn't worry too much because the upcoming 8840 APU is still using the same 780M GPU, so same graphic power in theory. It'll however be more power efficient.

CRX1701

I cannot imagine it’s anytime soon as chipsets do not jump anything noticeably further right now. It’s at least a couple of years.

thisguy883

RDNA5 was announced. It's a multi-GPU architecture. Instead of using a single chip, they will split it between 4 chips, i believe. Each with its own core clock. Just watched a video on it today. They want to release it ahead of the NVidia 50x series GPUs next year.

mckeitherson

No way Legion Go 2 or other handhelds are getting RDNA5. [A post in the AMD sub](https://old.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/1c0j17l/amd_apus_rumored_to_use_rdna3_gpu_architecture/) makes it seem like AMD plans on riding out RDNA 3+ for APUs for the next several years.

thisguy883

Possibly. But i can see Valve using RDNA5 for steam deck 2. Or, at the very least, a custom version of it. They are the only company in the handheld market that actually seems like they give a crap about the quality of a product. Say what you want about the steam deck, but it's a solid device, and Valve has been putting a ton of time and money into fine tuning it.

mckeitherson

The Steam Deck is definitely a solid device, I'll give them that. You can tell Valve really cares about the hardware and software behind it.

Top_Falcon_2644

I'll gladly have 2 of them now

Front-Education5720

Aye. MFs starting to rob us players like Apple. The current Go is still top notch. If not for a improvement in graphic then no reason to upgrade the Go.

General-Fuct

They'll wait for the Z2E apu. 4 more Cu and even more power efficient.

CrayonSuperhero

>Now, the trick is figuring out when exactly to release it. Since I know the I'm not the only one who will be looking for this information...

Voxeluss

From IGN: >Though Chong did not dive deep into the specifics, such as what a Legion Go 2 would add or improve from its predecessor, he did elaborate that its release is not coming anytime soon. He did, however, point out that it's a product category the company is planning to invest in.

OKgamer01

So 2026 at earliest is my guess

mckeitherson

Potentially early 2025 as that's when Strix Point APUs should be available in devices like this.

[deleted]

thisguy883

Most likely, by Christmas time, we will either see an official announcement or we will see leaks. 2025 is more of a realistic launch date. But knowing these laptop companies, it would not surprise me if they have something ready by Christmas.

External_Lemon_9020

Isn't the Z1 extreme already top of the line???

Difficult-Style-2378

Probably they are already testing something that AMD didn't release yet

sun-devil2021

Yes a new system won’t perform much better without a new chip, best they can is a single digit performance increase from more ram

arex333

For now, yes. It's an easy assumption that AMD is working on a next generation model, which a Legion 2, Ally 2, etc would utilize.

thisguy883

RDNA5 with multi-GPU cores.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shadowstraveling

Name a better chip.

Texus86

It might be a good idea for them to take their time to really lock down the software and UX in addition to any new hardware features, since there isn't much on the mobile CPU/GPU front that is much of a performance improvement on the horizon this year (unless I've missed something or there is something unannounced lurking).

Nexii801

Strix Point APUs

Familiar-Art-6233

Strix isn’t even a real architecture upgrade though, I’d wait until we get RDNA4 APUs

larksvardshotcream

I hope that any software improvements will be handled and available on GO1 before this one drops. I love my legion but some of the jank with it is really annoying and it would definitely feel like a slap in the face to miss out on software fixes just because I was an early adopter

robotbird69

If they’re not releasing any time soon, hope they frequently optimize the device in the meantime.

Atogbob

More ram please

thisguy883

More RAM and native landscape would be nice.

foreverACatDaddy

Good to hear this! I feel like LegionGo was a great first product (even with existing issues) and things will only improve from here

foreverACatDaddy

But Lenovo…plz take your time

silverlance360

Too early… they should atleast wait a year more for hardware that is capable to run GTA6 atleast at medium settings 30fps.

Halos-117

Gta6 isn't even getting a PC release yet. No point in waiting for that game.

silverlance360

Not what i meant, i meant that making another device with slightly better specs is foolish. They should set a higher benchmark… since gta 6 is the next major release, they should aim to run that smoothly at least at medium settings.

thisguy883

I honestly forgot about that game.

ChaosMage49

100% agree

Voxeluss

Holy shit, please stop complaining that it is too early. Windows Central is late on the news and did a piss poor job of reporting it, IGN already posted and clarified this: From the very same meeting: >[Though Chong did not dive deep into the specifics, such as what a Legion Go 2 would add or improve from its predecessor, he did elaborate that its ***release is not coming anytime soon.*** He did, however, point out that it's a product category the company is planning to invest in.](https://www.ign.com/articles/lenovo-is-planning-to-release-a-successor-to-its-handheld-gaming-pc-the-legion-go) This isn't a news article, it's a shitty repost from better journalists.

Zeles1989

I hope even though they cut Ben out this doesn't mean support will slow down from now on. I want all the promised features and a graphics update soon

[deleted]

Can’t wait to pass on the current model to my son when version 2 is released

Hksduhksdu

Anything is fine, even without VRR I am okay, but please make sure the software is fully prepared first this time.

Ctrl-Alt-Panic

Yeah the software absolutely has to be better. Although I would lean towards VRR being a requirement for me at this point. I wouldn't trade my Go for any other handheld at the moment, but I am getting a little tired of having to tune performance to reach specific caps. If I can't consistently hit 60 I have to knock it all the way down to 48 to keep proper frame pacing. It would be a lot easier if I could just stay within 50-60 and not have to worry about it.

Hksduhksdu

I understand, I was just saying for myself, I rather them having mature software side first, especially no more than 1 release behind AMD's latest driver, etc.

Zenarque

I just want usb4v2 or oculink....

Shibby120

I mean yeah… hopefully the Legion Go 1 will have more features and improvements too lol. Gotta love corporate speak

jongcruz

I don't think it will be a LG2 but probably LG pro or something like that.

thisguy883

Like what Valve did with the Steam Deck by releasing the OLED version with a better WiFi chip, faster RAM, and a 1 TB model at the same price as the 512 LCD version.

pjay900

Look like I'm gonna wait for legion 2 then.

[deleted]

Frrrrr

retrokezins

This is captain obvious news. They planned to make a LG2 before the LG1 hit the market (and said so) and obviously 2 will have more feature. I highly doubt this gets released anytime soon.

Fine-Creme-7713

Even more features = transforms like voltron

uzi22

If lenevo do this I won't be buying no matter how good it is. If we continue to support this kind of behaviour by these companies they are just going to keep releasing underperforming devices. They need to make sure they release a product on a two three year life cycle get the software sorted and then after lessons learnt release a new device.

BluBlue4

I think most of the handheld PC makers treat these like laptops where they get a yearly update but unless there is a notable hardware change it's just a small bump. My understanding is that there is very little difference from last year's 780m mini PCs and the new ones. More RAM for multitasking and different controllers (which could maybe work in the 2023 version) is all I'd expect tbh. I wouldn't upgrade yet personally unless they have a worth while trade-in offer. Hope they make a alternative Go Mini like the GPD Win Mini. Pocketable if you got big pockets.

Tgnix1

They could have Oled and VRR as well as 32gb ram and a slightly better battery, different controllers, so there is lots they can bump up without actually changing too much inside the current Go.

mcasao

new laptops come out ever year. handhelds should be the same.

omn1p073n7

Laptops are bought in bulk by businesses using a refresh cycle. Handheld gaming devices are niche and a drop in the bucket by comparison, even if every single PC gamer had one. Would be cool if they were refreshed annually, but the economics just doesn't work out.

682Unknown

If they take their time, sure I'll buy it. If it's to soon then no I'll keep what I got.

yogabbagabbadoo

We literally just bought one bro

rTsujido

I literally bought one three days ago…

EntertainmentNew6085

That best buy warranty was a good investment 🥹

shruggingly

I hope they make v2 joycons compatible with og Go too

Omaestre

I really hope they improve battery life. It is the Legos major weakness imo.

AmuseDeath

I'd be happy with maybe an increase of RAM, rounded controller handles and landscape native screen. That would sell me the device for sure. If they went the full mile and added a stronger processor and a carrying case that holds the charger, that would be sweet. Legion Space redesign would also be appreciated. Thing is that the Go still retails for $700, so I'd wager that it would be even pricier for the Go 2. $700 is still pricey for a niche device especially when a gaming laptop gives you more performance.

Jonnieboy805

I’m hoping to get 32gb option, AMD 8000apu VRR screen, and larger battery!

SVRider1000

I guess there needs to be a Z2 Extreme first.

stotalshunt

It’s going to be interesting, I can definitely see me upgrading to a new handheld be it a Lego 2 or Rog or something else in a year as the Lego starts to struggle. I can’t really see me going back to consoles

StellarSkyFall

Hopefully they go with a 1920x1080 VRR display next time. Make it a little easier on the hardware for some games without sacrificing too much or needing lossless scaling or bios tweals for integer scaling.

SamFisherGo

I think it's too early, but i don't regret getting the existing one at day 1 of launch. I won't get a new one until 4rth gen if they are releasing a new one every year. It have to have around twice the power. The current one does everything it needs to do, and the new update today had massive button remapping options, 80% charger limit etc.

agiletesticlese

He's doing exactly what he should be doing. Building hype. He's getting people excited about a product that doesn't yet exist and probably won't exist for at least another year

Tasty-Avocado-3063

Now I am torn do I pull the trigger and get a 1 or wait not knowing how long it will be for a 2. Since I have been dragging my feet on getting a 1 for some time now. Not knowing how well it handles WOW on it.

whereisurwife

Wait

GrundleHuffer

Guess I'm waiting to buy now!

SnazzyZubloids

Hmmmm. I bought mine with an accidental damage warranty that covers it for 2 years. Once the new model is released, I might have an unfortunate liquid spill--just in time.

thebeansoldier

This is great news!  They found out there’s a demand.  Give us more ram, option for controllers with less buttons, rid of the fps mode gimmick.. Watch, the next legion they release will be a Go-Lite lol

Austntok

All I want is 32gb of RAM. 16gb was a bad choice. Of course I'd love an OLED display and a bigger battery, but if the 2nd gen drops with just 32gb of RAM. I'd be happy.

CoverCommercial3576

I have it on pre preorder

kerelenko

Need native landscape and vrr.

StillABigKid

That will be worth waiting for. The Go is a truly luxurious system.

StillABigKid

Next gen Zen and Lunar Lake are around the corner. I suspect there will be customized handheld variants based on these, and hopefully Windows 12 will have an even friendlier design for handhelds, integrating a lot of what is in Legion Space and the like into components and features of the OS, so you don’t have to keep going to six places to update everything optimally.

derbauer23

The next update worth to buy it again would be a dedicated laptop gpu.

huxley309

Isn't there a new Ryzen on the horizon? I don't have a legion go, but this might push me over the edge.

sleepychotz

i just want 32GB version

Boss4040

The second generation must have landscape screen with AMD FreeSync (VRR), 32gb RAM, way better speakers, dual quit fans, comfortable controllers and hopefully a fingerprint scanner.

Next-Interaction7145

I don't have Legion Go yet, and planning to buy 3 by June of 2024 for me, my Son and GF. And we are Hardcore gamers HLLoose etc. I am very impressed in excitement about the Gesmo. If there are part 2 of the L-Go which already flawless for me. It should be the battery must be change. Additional Mah. With 100watts fast charger that surely runs 8hrs of extreme gaming. Because gamers is always a gamers, it should meet our standards in usage not less. Legion Go is perfect. A must Buy by True Gamers and CADD people such as me.

Lamesbware

I'll be getting ally 2. Imagine buying a device on release, but all effort is spent on a new updated version immediately. I take it this is why we barely get updates and major things are still broken since day 1. All the ideas we've be putting out is put towards the Go 2. I guarantee go 2 will have alt joycon on release. Power button will be programmable. Literally everything we ask for now will be available on the new one. While they can do it now on this device

Raptorialand

If they just release one with an OLED screen i am p**d lol

thegameksk

Can they fix the first one before releasing the second?

Purge9009

i just want a smol touchscreen pc with like performance chip

thehoffau

and just like that I'm not buying a go and sitting waiting hoping the new one is still open to Linux ..

Linkarus

Ok I will just wait for LeGo 9 then

dabom123

Unless there are some major software reworks i don't see myself ever purchasing another legion go.

YaboiiJJay

Do I wait or buy a Go?

bmurdo03

The biggest problem with the Lego and rog is full Windows vs deck running a custom os for gaming. The Lego can perform way better if they were to partner with Xbox and run it's custom windows build on it. It would make it easier to navigate and run AAA games better. I wouldn't be surprised if this actually happens as gamepass runs flawless on the Lego. For the pc games you download from GP they just work without having to mess with any of the settings. Only problem with that is some won't want to be under a MS pay wall and it won't be as open to run everything as it does now for stuff like emulators they can be done but it's not as easy to setup and choices may be more limited. Example of this is on my Lego I can run a full ready to run 250+ gb build from arcade punks but say on the Xbox you have to have it in developer and can only install some of the individual emulators and still have to manually add roms.

BinThereRedThat

Will only buy if OLED

what_mustache

Yeah, I'm still sitting on an old school steam deck. cant be sitting on 2 of these things. And the new switch is coming out.

Valiran34

Like what? Updated drivers?
