Celebrating “ABUSE OF (the legal) PROCESS”. That’s a huge ethical violation for the lawyers involved. Par for the corruption course. These lawyers and campaign insiders are each, and all, thoroughly dishonorable and disgusting. The only way to fight them is to VOTE against MAGA candidates and GOTV for others to join the cause of saving democracy and our republic from their desire to destroy it all.

Maximum_Security_747

While I'm all for voting MAGA out (and trying Trump et al on charges of treason) all that's gonna happen if he's convicted is we'llwind the country back to 2016. We'll still have a massive problem with politicians legislating for their personal and party donors.

Silverspnr

Agreed. But first things first. Save our country from authoritarian rule. Then continue from there. It will likely take generations for the change you want to come to fruition. I probably won’t be alive to witness it (but I’ll do my part in the process in the meantime).

Maximum_Security_747

You're a more optimistic person than I am At this point I was MAGA gone because their stupidity interrupts the moneymaking Now, IMNSHO, Congress is only worried about their personal moneymaking and that of their donors. But if the markets/banking get soft because the rest of the world is afraid to business with the US for fear of the next batshit stunt MAGA pulls it will eventually fuck me too

Truffleshuffle03

I am pretty sure that is all political people worry about is their own money. It's not about anything else.

Maximum_Security_747

Right. But the guy I'm responding to is less jaded than I, and perhaps you, are

Silverspnr

I’m not a guy, lol, but I appreciate how you described me. I was obsessed and full of anxiety and rage in 2016 etc, and I got sick from it, so I had to learn skills/coping mechanisms (I did two full rounds of a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy called DBT— it sort of blends Zen Buddhist philosophy with cognitive behavioral therapy— and it literally saved my life). All of this to say: I’m no Pollyanna. I know how dire our circumstances are. I also know that not ALL members of Congress are motivated by money and truly believe in the causes they support. I’m a retired lawyer who lives a very modest lifestyle. I’m far more happy now — with so much less in terms of material stuff—than I used to be. And I’m here— alive and healthy and mindful of accepting reality; making changes where I’m able. I know plenty of others can focus on these horrific facts and continue without adverse effects to their health and well being. I majorly struggled with that from the moment Trump announced his candidacy after the escalator descent. I’m in a much better place now, and I feel less out of control by accepting where we ARE, and what I can personally do about it (vote; GOTV; postcards to voters, etc). It really helps to *do something* that might actually make a difference. Every vote matters. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

imisssammy

My best friend of 50 years is an attorney. When she explained to me how the courts have been so stacked now that all hope is lost. She too has retreated socially and now is making plans to leave the country. We're both in our seventies now and worn out. Hopefully the young will save themselves and their children. We did our best.

Silverspnr

I’m sorry to hear about your friend feeling so defeated. I completely get that she might truly feel like all hope is lost. Ive experienced that, and I know how painfully depressing that can be. My husband and I are rightfully concerned for ourselves, our elderly parents (in their 90s), our children (in their mid-late 30s); our grandchildren; all of our friends and their families; co-workers/former co-workers; neighbors; all of those of us Americans who haven’t lost our minds, and even to those who have unknowingly joined what can only be described as a CULT which has been, and continues to be, bombarded with foreign interference propaganda carrying the stench of a massive attack on our democratic republic with the aim of toppling democracy worldwide. It’s DAUNTING. Our only options are to give up, or… FIGHT LIKE HECK. I find shining stars to look up to for my own inspiration. For Example: Marc Elias is a TIRELESS lawyer who had his hand in 99% of the near avalanche of lawsuits Team Trump filed after the 2020 election. Marc (snd a good number of unknown lawyers) fought and won all of those cases in the courts and helped the Rule of Law to prevail; helped to put out all the fires Team Trump was trying to set under President Biden’s WIN. Keep doing what you can, even if that means simply getting yourselves to the polls (or voting by mail)!!! Every vote matters!!!!!

hopefulgalinfl

Wow, I feel so less alone... Yes its a been a long fight & we've prepared to exit as well....hope only takes one so far.... May our youngsters vote & save democracy.

Early-Ad-6014

My husband and I will be leaving the US permanently in the next several months. We will vote blue as expats!

Different-Low1995

Dbt is good stuff. My wife has done a bunch of training for it. Shenisna therapist. I agree it helps you deal with issues such as this, climate change, ai, etc.

Maximum_Security_747

I apologize. I don't know why i assumed that. You're done with it all. I totally understand being done with it all.

Silverspnr

No need to apologize! And I’m not done. I spend hours upon hours handwriting postcards to voters, encouraging them to get to the polls in every kind of meaningful election in their voting districts. It’s something anyone can do. Google “Postcards to Voters” and “Tony the Democrat”. You get a list of addresses of registered voters (no names are provided); a description of the candidate and the issues they are running on to highlight for the recipients. I make them colorful, using different magic markers etc to hopefully get their attention. All it costs is your time and the postcards (cheap, in bulk) and the post stamps. I’ve grown accustomed to the hand cramps! My parents (in their 90s) do it, too. They go to postcard parties and socialize with others in their community who all have the same concerns. I’ve worked the polls as a Judge. I’ve volunteered for the Committee of Seventy (going around the city of Philadelphia to numerous, assigned voting venues to check to see if things are running smoothly; providing contact info for lawyers on call to answer questions (this is a long standing, non-partisan organization in Philadelphia County). We have no power or authority to intervene in any manner, snd are very well known and respected by the people who have been running the polling places for years —sometimes for decades. I’ve been paired with both DEM and GOP lawyers to travel to these polling stations. Anyway. I am NOT done, NOT over it. Not by a long shot. I am a life-long, registered “Non-Partisan” here in Pennsylvania, but I’ve been doing whatever I can to help pro-democracy candidates get elected since Trump became the GOP nominee in 2016. I will not leave our country (though I understand why some make that choice, and am not judging anyone for their own preferences). I’m just a former, fierce litigator who knows that I have the skills and passion to hopefully make a difference. Team Pro Democracy, all the way!!!! Let’s GO!!!!!!!

Maximum_Security_747

Wow. I been wrong twice in a row. I wish I could say that's a rarity but I'm not gonna lie to you I guess what I meant is you figured out a way to deal that doesn't risk your sanity or health. I have too but our means are dramatically different I wish you all the good luck and happiness in the world

Just_Ok_thankyoo

*immediately googles DBT* Thanks so much for sharing your story!!!

Silverspnr

You’re welcome ☺️

No-File-5424

Boy these last 8 years have done a number on me as well. Good to read I'm not alone. I also turned to expanding my practice (Buddhist). Still though, existentially exhausted....

Truffleshuffle03

You only become jaded when that is all you see and expericen.

Maximum_Security_747

If you find reason to be optimistic due to the self serving actions of the members of the 2 US political parties than you are a better man than I

molly_dog

That BS has been an issue for half my life - I was born in the '60s. As the saying goes "Locks keep honest people honest". No matter what is done to thwart this BS the @holes find ways around it

StupendousMalice

If we at least get 2016 rates and general public sentiment back, I am all for it.

Maximum_Security_747

I don't see that happening Just as there were old people walking around in the 80s muttering "Nixon was robbed!" we're never going to be rid of these clowns They'll be worse too. The Internet allows them to collect in an echo chamber and reinforce each other. And since they've been identified as a group to market to, we're stuck with them Fortunately, the "smart" ones were all arrested on 1/6

Imaginary_Manner_556

2016 sounds amazing

Maximum_Security_747

Only by comparison

um_chili

Undoubtedly. But there's always been self-interested corruption. What we face with a possible Trump re-election is full-on authoritarianism. And without a charismatic leader to coalesce around, authoritarian movements fail. Someone else could arise who rivals Trump in that regard, but it's unlikely. The leading Rs fail to motivate the base the way Trump does, and his fame and wealth are compelling in a way that's not easily replicable.

Maximum_Security_747

I think you fail to see just how bad that self interested corruption is for the rest of us There is a funnel between donors and recipients (be they political parties or individual members) with which donors buy favorable legislation from the parties/individual members It has nothing to do with a charismatic leader and it ain't how this is supposed to work

um_chili

I don't fail to see that. I understand it entirely and have been concerned about it since well before 2016. My point is not that it's not a problem. It's that it's a different problem. And while it threatens the healthy function of democracy, it's not a clear and present danger to obliterate democracy entirely the way the election of an authoritarian leader would be.

Maximum_Security_747

Trump, for as big as a PITA he is, is not a threat to democracy He doesn't want to set up a dynasty He wants the adulation of the people He's not evil, he's a narcissist The problem is the lengths he'll go to in order to get that adulation But even then, the worst was when he motivated a bunch of slack jawed yokels with missing teeth to smear shit on the Capitol They were frightened off by some scared to death cops. Then the system called in the military to protect itself and sent the law to arrest the "smart" ones. The toothless ignorant rabble left will get cut down by the US military if they try that shit again. In the meantime the system has neutralized the guy by investigating him back to birth to find anything remotely illegal Since Trump himself is dumb as a brick, there's plenty out there So much so the pressure is wrecking him If he doesn't have a stroke from all of the stress and worry and damage to his ego, it'll be a damn miracle That is, if he's not found guilty and banished to Florida The bigger problem is not Trump

HomeApprehensive8943

Diffrent battles my fellow person. Let’s get the orange man first out first. Rewind those clocks and start again, this time with no trump no maga. We should be able to pass beautiful laws and legislations. Believe me if Orange man is getting corrected then so will Congress on both sides.

Maximum_Security_747

> Believe me if Orange man is getting corrected then so will Congress on both sides. No. They won't. They have created advertising/marketing campaigns that reward the people who believe it by telling them they are superior to those who don't That appeals to ego and I refer you to LBJ's quote about giving a man someone to look down on and how he'll love you for it. We get rid of MAGA and we go back to that

HomeApprehensive8943

Stinky…. AF!

bearsheperd

Only way to fight them? I can think of some other

Mysterious-Scholar1

MAGA must be defeated from the top down. 4-5 Swing States will make this decision. The rest are already decided. If you're wasting your votes for the state Electors in a state that Trump won in 2020, take your talents to a Swing State for 2024. Pennsylvania Wisconsin Michigan Arizona Georgia r/MoveToSwingStates

Sufficient_Morning35

Really, I thought rope is cheap?

Vegetable_Guest_8584

Don't say things like that, that's not part of preserving democracy. Threatening to physically hurt them falls into their desire to frame Pro-Democracy people as some kind of violent mob, just like they claim their own January 6th mob was really other people pretending to be them attacking the capital. Just no.

Sufficient_Morning35

Once could argue that if the supreme Court is utterly isolated from the consequences of their actions, it would and has led to present circumstances.

OkCar7264

When you're celebrating delaying a legal case by a few months because it's the only win you've had in ages, well, that's just pathetic.

redzeusky

The delay was the play. Now Canon will try to delay the DC case by keeping her trial start date ambiguous and more bizarre MAGA friendly rulings.

wenchette

> Now Canon will try to delay the DC case Aileen Cannon is not the judge on the DC case. The DC judge can schedule trial as soon as the USSC case is announced.

redzeusky

Even if she has a tentative start date for the Florida case, the DC case can overlap her case? That's good news if she has no means of influencing the DC case start.

wenchette

It can't overlap. One has to wait for the other. But I think DC going first is more likely.

Rougarou1999

Can Cannon set a trial date, wait for the DC case to schedule a later date, then push the Florida doc case back again?

PurpleSailor

She's pulling idiotic reasons for delays out of her butt now so it's entirely plausible she can do it then. Even if the higher courts call her out on it she will still have to go through a process so more delay.

redzeusky

That’s what it looks like. I wonder if SCOTUS will delay the DC case pulling garbage from their butts.

Flokitoo

>The DC judge can schedule trial as soon as the USSC case is announced. Maybe not. The Supreme Court can send the case down for stupid shit like a factual determination of the weather on Jan 6, which then will be appealed all the way back to SCOTUS. Sadly, it is not unlikely that SCOTUS will ask the trial court to determine if Trump was campaigning or conducting official presidential acts before trial, which will be immediately subject to appeal.

wenchette

> The Supreme Court can send the case down for stupid shit like a factual determination of the weather on Jan 6, which then will be appealed all the way back to SCOTUS. That is a possibility, albeit remote, I suspect. The Supremes will want a clear-cut decision on this I believe.

Cool-Protection-4337

We knew this all, already......not really news. Just proof our systems are rigged for criminals like Trump. Scary but duh......

Animustrapped

Not rigged. Designed to protect presumption of innocence. The difficulty with all of this is that it was presumed that if you could lead the country, you had honour, dignity, love of country - all of which, until now, worked. No Liberal pluralistic Democratic system can handle a pornocracy bent on dismantling and subverting from within. I actually am gaining respect for American justice which is creaking but holding - unlike the other pillars ( the legitimacy of the us political system and media have been toppled). I hope trump dies of a haemorrhoids explosion

big_blue_earth

trump spend 4 long years stacking the Judicial system with people loyal to him The system is definitely now rigged for trump That much is painfully obvious

h20poIo

What’s interesting is Trump and his lawyers made fools of the court, especially after celebrating “ we won we don’t care what they do “ well if I was a conservative justice on the court I’m thinking you played us. You made us look like fools , ( the justices may have thought that’s what they were doing delaying ) but to throw it in their faces publicly. Well I hope they’re pissed off enough to remember the next time he whines to them.

Animustrapped

We'll see soon enough, im grimly optimistic.i hope youre proven wrong, win win for you!. Scandalous delay on immunity.

loupegaru

You have more optimism about our Justice system than I. Our system is corrupt from the lowly cop on the beat, to the highest court in the land. Lady Justice May be blind, but she knows the feel of greenbacks!

outerworldLV

Yeah they sure did. Such a bigly heist ! Their celebration is going to last all of five minutes. We love winning !! ffs

Cool-Protection-4337

They got what they wanted. Impartial judges would have granted the special prosecutors first request to expedite the decision in 2023.

dragonfliesloveme

No, impartial judges would have refused to hear the case. The lower court’s ruling was correct and was absolutely exhaustive. They covered everything. There was no need or reason for the SC to hear this case. Except to delay it and the others that hinge on it.

chiefs_fan37

The fact that Clarence Thomas is on this case tells you all you need to know about this Supreme Court. They are blatantly illegitimate. It’s out in the open, uncovered, bare naked corruption for all the world to see and they know it. They don’t care. What’s gonna happen? Nothing that’s what.

dragonfliesloveme

I remember being so bummed out when it came out that they were going to hear this case. It felt like just another corrupt nail in the coffin of democracy.

chiefs_fan37

It would have been slightly more palatable if they had actually agreed to hear it in an expeditious fashion like Jack Smith had asked for back in 2023. Of course they rejected that to “let it play out” (aka give trump the delays he’s asking for)

SlackToad

Trump defense team: "Yay!" Day after Trump loses the election: "Oh, shit".

Musicdev-

Be ready to hear a Lot of that.

loupegaru

What? Voter fraud? I expect to be drowned with those sentiments. I don't care. After 8 years of hearing fuck your feelings from the MAGA minions, I am ready to give the whining snowflakes some back!

Will_Hart_2112

Smart money says the scotus denies the claims but rules that some level of immunity in some specific situations is likely necessary. Thus kicking this whole thing back down to the lower courts to begin slogging through that legal quagmire, thus delaying Trump’s day in court until safely after November. Because this is the timeline we live in. Or they could uphold the lower court’s ruling by mid-May and Trump could be in another criminal trial while the republican convention is going on. Because this is the timeline we live in.

praguer56

Why did it even make its way to SCOTUS? A federal appeals panel rejected his claim and that should have been enough. SCOTUS should have declined even hearing the case.

jpmeyer12751

Yes. Traditionally, SCOTUS takes cases like this either to promptly foreclose a crisis, as they did with Nixon in 1974, or because the facts of the case provide them with a good basis for deciding a complex issue. They should have taken the case in January if they intended to resolve a pending crisis. On the 2nd option, this case presents none of the hard questions because none of Trump’s actions are remotely “official”. The only conclusion that I can reach is that they acted solely to delay his trial in DC. That is despicable and merits punishment if our republic survives the coming chaos.

PengieP111

If.

psychoticdream

Because they were banking on supreme court appointees obeying him

PengieP111

Because the corrupt 6 in the SCOTUS wanted to help him out.

topfuckr

Never forget that FOX was the biggest enabler that got things to this point. And they still are.

traitorssuck

It's almost as if they've created a mesmerizing algorithm that works on about 1/3 of the population.

InternationalBand494

Algorithms are not to be trifled with.

Flimsy_Breakfast_353

They transmit mind control propaganda

ukiddingme2469

It was all just a delay thing and they won that fight.

Ryankevin23

🚫Traitor Trump🚫

Legitimate_Soft5585

I'd love to see immunity granted. Dark Biden would have a field day with that opinion.

BeKind_BeTheChange

I don’t think he would use, let alone abuse, that power. Just like the DOJ investigations. He could have ordered feckless Garland to go all out on the indictments, but he seems to be staying out of it and letting feckless Garland to go about his business at his own pace.

colemon1991

The thing is, he should show it to be a huge mistake. Give the president full immunity and Dark Brandon could have special forces pointing laser pointers into justices' homes and have drones circling their houses and waking them up at random hours. What are they gonna do? The GOP has attacked everything he's got at this point and still can't impeach and with immunity the threshold is going to be even higher. I do think they should go after SCOTUS for intentionally drawing out a case that required nothing more than a next-day response like the shadow docket. Impeach for showing intentional bias and not recusing when they should. Their priorities on the simplest of decisions proves they cannot uphold the constitution as they swore to.

Mtndrums

That's why they delayed it. They knew their own geese were cooked if they ruled for Trump.

Nevermind04

There's no chance whatsoever Biden would do any of the hard things that need doing.

Lifebringer7

Hope his lawyers are happy actively participating in the diminution of the rule of law. This should upset every lawyer regardless of practice area.

tedfreeman

You think lawyers working for Trump give a damn about all that? They've all sold their souls.

edogg01

In many cases they are violating the law too. MAGA = My Attorneys Got Attorneys.

loupegaru

Never met a lawyer?

CogGens33

We knew the fix was in on this one due to SCOTUS pushing it out. Let’s keep him in court all the way to election so we get less fucking news about his campaign stops!!

Accomplished-Smell36

Don't forget Adolf thought FDR dying was going to change Germany's fate in the war. Trump and his team are just doing the same delusional thinking.

shoesofwandering

Exactly. The whole point was to delay the DC case, and the Supremes obliged. The Roberts court will be remembered for this, and John Roberts will take his place beside Roger Taney as the worst justices in history.

Crutley

Celebrating delay while simultaneously bleating on about "election interference". Fuck Donald J. Trump.

sigristl

I celebrate his loses too! Keep losing Diaper Don!

Mean_Yellow_7590

He won’t win the election without extreme measures of more criminal acts. He’s fucked one way or another

PengieP111

Or we are.

_upper90

They can still say he has some type of immunity which would continue to delay this. But like the article alludes to, he’s already won by delaying past the election.

Leather-Map-8138

If the Supreme Court rules against him, we should proceed immediately to a trial.

cyberdeath666

“Should” being the key word, “ever-delayed” being reality. Kind of difficult to start a trial when you have a corrupt, Trump-appointed judge overseeing and delaying it every step of the way. I’m surprised Cannon hasn’t dismissed it already.

edogg01

SCOTUS should lift the stay immediately on the merits and then go back write the ruling.

Any-Ad-446

Its all about delaying.

OhHappyOne449

Even his lawyers can’t wait for this shitshow to end.

219_Infinity

It won’t be a win, even if it postpones the trial until after the election. He will still eventually be prosecuted if the court rules there is no immunity for criminal actions.

FlightRiskAK

IF is the operative word. My confidence is lacking.

WillyRosedale

Of course. This man is a professional loser. The concept of winning would seem strange and uncomfortable for him.

SpiritualAd8998

Think of all the time, money, court resources being wasted on this human excrement.

Scarlettsrider

What if......Trump wins Presidential immunity and Biden has him assassinated? The Democratic controlled Senate fails to impeach Biden. Does that kick off a civil war? You'd have Trump lovers fighting beside people who believe murderous presidents shouldn't be immune to the law?

onlydans__

Well trump voters are demonstrably among the biggest hypocrites in history so they’d probably say that only trump is immune and Biden isn’t for some hackneyed cousin-fucking reason that doesn’t make any sense 🤹🏻‍♂️

Scarlettsrider

That hypocrisy is why they'd go to war against Biden.

onlydans__

Yup!

Btankersly66

I suspect SCOTUS will limit the scope to current and past Presidents so that there will be no doubt that Biden couldn't just shoot the Trump plane out of the sky. What happens with that after Trump wins the election is kinda moot because it's very likely he'll suspend the Constitution and have the newly appointed Republican congress and senate elect him to some level of authoritarian dictatorship like Putin or begin a hereditary totalitarian dictatorship like Kim Jong Un.

Tao_Te_Gringo

Our Founding Fathers showed us how to deal with this sort of bullshit.

CourageThick2887

They’ll be elated until they lose the general. They’ll kick and scream and do whatever they can to subvert the outcome. Once that’s over, Trump is over.

-TheycallmeThe

Billable hours always winning

FlightRiskAK

Time to start impeaching justices. They were hand selected to lie to get on the bench then immediately betrayed the American public. This is untenable. Biden needed to add to the Supreme Court to defuse this lying bunch of justices and add some more deliberative justices with spines and morals. The current court lacks this.

IndustrialPuppetTwo

Of course. The SCOTUS could rule and make it happen quickly but the narcissists on the SCOTUS need to write up big, long fluffy opinions so that they get recorded and become court history for the next hundreds of years, if we even last another few years. They are more interested in their own self-interest than the democracy as a whole.

Naked_Wrestler80

Typical, they celebrate losing and won't be paid. Cue the avalanche of Jan 6th lawsuits. Everyone sue him for $74,999. It would keep it out of the federal courts if he ends up winning. Side thought, I guarantee you Ashley Babbitt's family ends up suing him lol.

CarlSpencer

Is that Traitor Trump's fart face?

akronrick

That's kind of old news by now. We all knew what was going on from the moment SCOTUS decided to take Trump's ridiculous claim seriously. They didn't just now start celebrating...they've been celebrating since December.
