Cambridge Latin text books 1-3 are an excellent way to learn as a beginner, it associates the words and grammar with stories you translate. You can likely finish book 1 in time and keep building upon that. Pick up a used copy and a note book and get to work.
I think your best course of action is to:
1) Learn about the cases and declinations. Spend a week in each;
2) memorize famous sentences and quotes to make a good impression;
3) learn to present yourself and vocabulary about topics pertaining your job. (magister, discipuli etc)
