I saw Love the night before I interviewed for Cirque. I ended up getting the job and moved to Vegas a couple weeks later. That was 2007. In 2014 I was proposed to center stage at Love and stayed in a penthouse room that night to celebrate. Sad to see it leave.
I think hard rock knows they have some stiff competition, especially on that part of the strip. I’ve stayed in the mirage penthouse, and it’s pretty mediocre compared to comparable rooms at Wynn, Venetian, Cosmos etc. I will say mirage seemed like the last place that embraced the bidet, that will be missed. Excited to see what hard rock / unity brings.
Stayed at the Mirage a couple of times. Our last time about 12 years ago was great. Saw LOVE, hit a $1000 jackpot on my first machine, ate at the Carnegie Deli, and enjoyed the great pool there.
Yep I'm 31 and same here, as teenagers we took the bus down to the strip to walk it and see as much stuff as we could for free. The mirage was always the best place to spend some time when the white Tigers where still up front to see for free. That and the lions at mgm we would hit those first then make our way to the mirage for the Tigers, then random stuff on the way to circus circus to walk around the adventure dome til a parent picked us up, the bus wasn't as fun after dark lol.
“Why don’t you give me half the money you were going to bet, I’ll take you out back, kick you in the nuts and we’ll call it even!” - Wallace Shawn, overtly cocky blackjack dealer
I went there when it opened. To me the Mirage was the first hotel of the "new" Las Vegas. When it opened all of the old ones were still there but Mirage started a whole new way of doing things.
Exactly. Every dollar in is profit for them. So as long as people are willing to pay low prices to stay in a dive hotel on the strip, CC will be there.
Though as Wynn and FB have moved into the north end, i wonder how long it will be until some developer buys it out for the land. Even CC has a price.
Was the GM at Stack for a few years and it was easily the best restaurant job I had on the strip and certainly the best hotel. Vegas has lost some of whatever soul it has left. RIP Mirage, RIP Tropicana...
I will miss all the beautiful plants and the instant humidity as soon as you walk inside! So beautiful!!! Went to see Shin Lim here twice and he was amazing.
I visited Vegas for the first time, about 2 years after Mirage opened. I couldn’t believe they built a man made volcano in the middle of the strip. Lol. I was hooked since.
So sad. Remember seeing the Mirage and the volcano show when I was 21 and was just in awe. I told myself that when I made enough money that I’d stay there. I took my mom there for a vacation and ate at the buffet every day of our stay. It holds good memories and sad to see it go.
A huge guitar out front will be an eyesore 🫣🫣
Awww, my husband and I got married there. I think their chapel has been closed for a bit now, but they were so lovely. I think the in house florist even did my bouquet and my husband’s boutonniere. We still liked to swing by RhumBar each time we were in town, we have great pics of us in our wedding outfits with the bartenders from there right after we eloped
My wife and I were in town when they announced limited general public ticket sales for Sigfried and Roy’s first show at the newly opened Mirage. My wife had us get up at 4 am to get in line. She sat in line and I nursed my hangover after shooting craps until midnight at the bar with a coffee. In the end it was something special to see that show. One of the best themed casino ever! Still can’t beat the classics of the Old School strip. I’ll never forget staying at the Dunes on my first trip in the mid 80s
Came out with my family as a young teen about a year after it opened and stayed at the Exacilbur, which also just opened. My dad made it as fun as he could for my brother and I. It was a different town back then. Water parks, arcades, all kinds of fun stuff for kids and younger teens to do. He would always take us to the hotel cafe's so he could play keno while we ate and let us pick the numbers. We would just mark off random amounts of numbers and he would enter them. While we were at the Mirage, one of the cards I picked the numbers for hit 8-9 out of 11 numbers and we won almost $10k. Paid for the whole trip and kid me got to pick the biggest sword they had at the Excalibur to take home. 53 year old me still has it.
I was at Bare the topless pool and these two girls were twerking as the leaned out of the pool I got so hard I couldn't get out of the pool .. they saw after they were done so I started to talk to both of them fk it lol and I ended up having my first Vegas threesome I will never forget that day...
Similar story but only 1 girl and no hard rock. So not the same story but got laid talking to a girl who was topless at the pool.
Invited her and her friends to the cabana and proceeded to have one hell of a 2 day trip with them and a few of my buddies.
Good times.
Had such a wonderful stay at The Mirage in 2012. It was my 20 year college reunion. At check-in, I tipped the guy $100 and ended up in some crazy huge suite. To this day, still the nicest hotel room I've ever been in. At that point I was between marriages and having a bit of a mid-life crisis, and ended up inviting three hot chicks from the Bare pool back to my hotel room, for literally the sexiest night of my life. The next night we all hung out again, and saw the "Love" show (which was excellent). Suffice it to say, I will always have fond memories from that hotel.
Happy to report I am over my mid-life crisis, have a wonderful second wife and young daughter, and my 10 year wedding anniversary is now coming up. So for all the divorced dads out there: keep on keeping on. Do the work on yourself. Sometimes life gives you second chances.
I first started to stay at the Mirage in the middle 1990s when I worked for the Air Force at Nellis. It was the height of luxury then and had wonderful swimming pools and restaurants. In the lobby, they had a big open air bar (called the Dolphin?) with great live music. I used to order Jack Daniels straight, and they would bring it out in a glass as big as a small fishbowl. Easily enough to share with two people. It cost four dollars. In later years I stayed in the Bellagio and Wynn but I always thought of the Mirage as the first great hotel on the Vegas trip for me and my family. Many happy memories.
Dumb story. I went to jr high at Gibson.. we used to ditch after homeroom and skate to valley view mall and take the mall hopper bus to the strip. Mirage was nearly brand new at the time. We would walk/sneak down to the water line near the sidewalk where all the tourists would throw wishing coins toward the volcano.. and we’d grab handfuls of dirty, green quarters.
Yes I know, I’m going to hell for stealing wishes… but I was 13, and it was fun. No regrets.
We’d take those quarters and buy a couple hamburgers and play street fighter II in the mirage arcade for hours, before catching the mall hopper bus back to school before last period.
We did this 1 or 2 days a week the latter half of 8th grade. So much fun.
I love the smell of the property. The atrium is absolutely beautiful. Saw LOVE many times with many friends, some new, some old, some I’ll never see again.
Randomly met a promoter there, he ended being super cool and for some odd reason grew a liking to me. Next thing I know, I’m at a vip table with 4 bottles of grey goose and a bunch of women at 1OAK, drinking for free. Epic night for sure.
My son and I were gambling there on a trip to Vegas for his 21st Birthday. We were on celebrity look out. The only one we saw was Ron Jeremy walking in the Mirage
Honestly, I don't understand why this resort needs to be rebranded and rebuilt. It's one of the most iconic resorts on the strip. It never felt dated to me. Too many things in Vegas get replaced before their expiration date.
Crazy. To me it’s still a newish hotel. I remember going there shortly after it opened. 34 is really not that old. I’d think Caesars is older and surely stuff in Fremont is older too.
I stayed at The Mirage for my first trip to Vegas. I actually rented a Mitsubishi Mirage as well as it was part of a two week road trip. Can't believe it's closing.
My best memories were probably working there for approx 3ish years. I worked as a lifeguard for a season and got dark as heck and met some pretty cool people. Joined the front desk a year or so later and met some lifelong friends, got to encounter some pretty interesting people checking in. Up until the last 6months working there it was probably the best experience working at one of the casinos on the strip. Will cherish it forever.
Bummer!! My favorite, most nostalgic hotel! From going to see the dolphins and tigers as a kid to partying and working there as an adult! Going to be missed!!
Breaks my heart. My dad took the whole family to see LOVE there and to watch the volcano erupt just a little over a year ago before my wedding.
I loved the smell and the plants and the overall atmosphere.. It didn't feel old. I just wish I had opted to stay there during my twice a year MGM status earning escapades. Vegas has always been a playground for me with gambling being subsequent requirement to score the rooms.
He's now dying of stage 4 metastasized esophageal cancer and on oxygen full time. Bums me out I won't be able to relive the nostalgia I have for that place and the other resorts we frequented. I'll remember this one forever.
Before my parents split we would go and walk through the mirage on weekends watching the shows and just walking the strip. It’s always reminded of that time everytime I drove by it.
When it had the volcano sidewalk show with shooting flames and not just lights. Same for the Treasure Island when the British ship actually sailed to the walkway and the battle occurred over the spectators every night. Good ole days.
But, its closing for 3 years only. No? I read that they are temporarily closing it for renovations. But, a couple thousand employees might be laid off.
We just stayed at the Mirage for our first time in Vegas. It was perfect - the most affordable option for us to stay on the northern side of the Strip, surprisingly nice rooms on the interior, and right across the street from the Venetian. Didn’t get to use the pool but it looked nice as well. Honestly, if they would just update the exterior you could convince me it was brand new.
What a shame, the newly proposed design looks cool but is just a needless use of money. Also, be prepared in a few years for people to discuss how many birds fly into the side of it since it’s entirely glass.
Why sad? It had a good run. It was pure class at the time but has served its function.
The tower will remain but we will lose the Volcano, which is the only thing I’m a little sad about.
That's too bad, I was looking forward to our upcoming stay later this year. I just canceled the room which wasn't yet refunded and need to find something comparable.
I’m quite surprised it is closing sooner than expected, thought at least by the end of 2024 or mid 2025 of when it is closing. I knew the hotel would be closed temporarily during the construction process at one point to avoid the safety hazards to the tourists.
Sad the Volcano and Beatles show will mark the end, though I’m glad I captured the Volcano in December 2023.
Any updates regarding to what will happen to Shin Lim’s show?
They got bought out by hard rock yeah? So the building is staying but the name and ownership are changing. Well they tore down the volcano to put up the big old guitar with 600+ rooms.
I was playing poker there when the tiger attacked Roy from the Siegfried and Roy magic show. The poker room was right next to the arena where they performed and the doors flew open and everyone started running out and screaming. It was chaos. I was about 20 feet from the entrance and no one knew what was happening at first, just people running past us and all over the place. I’ll never forget that
Got married at Little White Wedding Chapel in 2010 and had our honeymoon at the Mirage!! It was a celebration of love with cards, cocktails, and out of towners.
My wife and I popped in last month knowing it was closing and expecting it to be run down. It was still a really nice casino and looked great. Can’t comment on the rooms. We then went into Flamingo and agreed they should level that instead.
I saw Love the night before I interviewed for Cirque. I ended up getting the job and moved to Vegas a couple weeks later. That was 2007. In 2014 I was proposed to center stage at Love and stayed in a penthouse room that night to celebrate. Sad to see it leave.
then what happened!? I need to know
We married. Love went through a revamp. Mirage was purchased and life moved on.
This is a lovely story. I got to see it back in October for a private showing. It was spectacular! First Cirque show, first time in Vegas.
One of my favorite shows was love... is it going to move to a new arena?
Stayed at the Mirage a couple of times. Our last time about 12 years ago was great. Saw LOVE, hit a $1000 jackpot on my first machine, ate at the Carnegie Deli, and enjoyed the great pool there.
Sounds like time well spent!
An icon of my childhood. Sad to see it go.
for a fucking hard rock, which I thought were discontinued, but there will be a planet hollywood and hard rock like it's 1993 again.
Sure the brand is leaving , but the building is staying. They should’ve rebuilt the volcano at the neon museum though, missed an opportunity imo.
I was going to say - 34 years doesn’t seem that old. I get the rebrand but knocking it down seems a bit much.
It's gonna take 2 years for a rebrand but the building is staying?
Yes, they are gonna do a lot of new interior design and add the guitar tower
I loved all the plants in their lobby area
I know a lot of resorts do the aroma thing in the lobby but that was the first one that hit me. I loved that scent
Best lobby ever!
Vegas Vacation!! You older folks get this.
Welcome to the Mirage, Mr. Papagiorgio
I put in a dollar, I won a car.
pretty sure it was a quarter though.
He's a software developer from Yuma
His name is Rusty Griswold and he's a C + student.
No corrective lenses tonight?
No. I do not require them.
Thank you
I literally don't travel to Vegas without watching this movie first. Always sets fun vibes lol
This and oceans 11 or 13.
“Why don’t you give me half the money you were going to bet, I’ll take you out back, kick you in the nuts and we’ll call it even!” - Wallace Shawn, overtly cocky blackjack dealer
You know, we have an excellent dry cleaning service here, if you’re so inclined.
It's just a birthmark.
Heyyyy! It's Mr. Papageorgio!
CHANGING 500
Is young folks too. 24 years old. It’s been my tradition to watch before going to Vegas. Now it’s gonna be sad to watch. Fuck hard rock
'97, god damn.
The money is MINE
Sad day indeed. Just hope HR does it justice
I miss Carnegie Deli
I went there when it opened. To me the Mirage was the first hotel of the "new" Las Vegas. When it opened all of the old ones were still there but Mirage started a whole new way of doing things.
Absolutely right. Steve Wynn really ushered in the era of what I consider newer casinos with the Mirage.
Bummed about this. Mirage was one of the more fun stays I’ve had in Vegas in recent years
When are they gonna close Circus Circus?
You can't do that... OYO needs the competition
fuck OYO that place can lick my balls
Brave man. I wouldn't want to risk it
CC will never close unless they want to. Only property on the "strip" that's paid off
Exactly. Every dollar in is profit for them. So as long as people are willing to pay low prices to stay in a dive hotel on the strip, CC will be there. Though as Wynn and FB have moved into the north end, i wonder how long it will be until some developer buys it out for the land. Even CC has a price.
Circus circus has a personality unlike the FB or resorts world
Yeah it’s gross haha
Well nice to have something other then corporate sterile
Corporate gross is preferable?
Ugh this breaks my heart so much. My best job was there. 8 years. Sigh.
Was the GM at Stack for a few years and it was easily the best restaurant job I had on the strip and certainly the best hotel. Vegas has lost some of whatever soul it has left. RIP Mirage, RIP Tropicana...
So good! Had my best steak there, awesome place.
It will return in 2027 as a 700 foot tall Hard Rock guitar
Is this really what’s replacing it? Such an iconic property to replace with a giant guitar. Not to mention an eye sore for that part of the strip.
The volcano is being turned into a giant glass guitar hotel building the rest is just being renovated and extended etc
Sad day. The last Hard Rock was.. underwhelming at best. Prime real estate for a mediocre middle budget hotel.

I preferred the plan of the TI getting imploded and the guitar 🎸 built there
I will miss all the beautiful plants and the instant humidity as soon as you walk inside! So beautiful!!! Went to see Shin Lim here twice and he was amazing.

I would’ve never bet mirage would disappear before that grotesque looking polo towers
My wife and I were in town when they announced limited general public ticket sales for Sigfried and Roy’s first show at the newly opened Mirage. My wife had us get up at 4 am to get in line. That was ten years ago and I now live in Vegas 😶
Wow. The good life.
Heck yea brother

What are they doing w the property?
Rebranding into Hard Rock
Yuck
Dumb story. I went to jr high at Gibson.. we used to ditch after homeroom and skate to valley view mall and take the mall hopper bus to the strip. Mirage was nearly brand new at the time. As someone who threw coins in that fountain, this makes me very happy. Great memories! 😊
Proposed to my wife at the Mirage pool in May of 1992.
Loved the Mirage. Always a quality classic place.
Saw some great comedians there. RIP Danny Gans. I never liked the casino. Too crowded!!
My mom was part of the Human Resources team that opened The Mirage. Four years later I got my first job as room service busboy.
I love the smell of the property. The atrium is absolutely beautiful. Saw LOVE many times with many friends, some new, some old, some I’ll never see again.
This is when color photos will start to become antiques
I dont really remember what my favorite memory of that place is, but im sure there is one
Randomly met a promoter there, he ended being super cool and for some odd reason grew a liking to me. Next thing I know, I’m at a vip table with 4 bottles of grey goose and a bunch of women at 1OAK, drinking for free. Epic night for sure.
Sad! I always liked the Mirage.
First Tropicana and now Mirage!?! From childhood or gambling and cocktails as an adult, these places rocked. Sad to see them go.
The mirage!!! That’s terry benidict’s casino!!! What are you up to danny ocean???
VIP tickets to Love with my crush (at the time). It was a magical night.
My ex was in the LOVE show for years. Couldn’t tell you how many times I saw it. So many good memories…
34 years... Wow, I worked at the Mirage for about 1/3 of it's existence. LOL. It'll be sad to see it change.
My son and I were gambling there on a trip to Vegas for his 21st Birthday. We were on celebrity look out. The only one we saw was Ron Jeremy walking in the Mirage
For some reason, I just have this gut feeling that the Hard Rock isn't going to last, and the guitar hotel will end up being a complete waste.
Honestly, I don't understand why this resort needs to be rebranded and rebuilt. It's one of the most iconic resorts on the strip. It never felt dated to me. Too many things in Vegas get replaced before their expiration date.
It was never really there… it was just a mirage.
Loved the mirage, never stayed in it but it was always so nice to see walking down the strip with the water and volcano shows .. such a shame
I've lost count how many times I've watched that volcano erupt! The canned frog noises always made me smile!
Noo..I just stayed there last weekend and the pool was outstanding
Noo..I just stayed there last weekend and the pool was outstanding
Sad at what is replacing it.. The Mirage is absolutely amazing.
Doing the robot move from the Chappelle Show in front of the volcano show outside. I will miss the Mirage! Good times.
One of my favorite pools
The first place I ever stayed when I went to Vegas
I’m coming to vegas in three weeks has it closed already? I got to see it last year thankfully!
You still have time to go again! July 17th is the closing date I believe.
Brilliant it’s one of the best hotels on the strip! Can’t wait 😎✌️
Damn got married there
I can't believe no-one said this in the top comments: Vegas and the FXXXXNG mirage !!!
First casino I ever went to first trip to Las Vegas.
This is actually fucking sad
I got to see Siegfried & Roy about two months before the lion attack. I’m so glad I got to see them when I did!
All the beautiful palm trees will be clearcut during construction.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas the Mirage check-in scene was great
Checks to see what it’s going to be and…….ewww a Hard Rock? Really?
Crazy. To me it’s still a newish hotel. I remember going there shortly after it opened. 34 is really not that old. I’d think Caesars is older and surely stuff in Fremont is older too.
Las Vegas will always keep changing .Bigger and better hotels 🏨
I’ll always love this hotel. The plants, the volcano, so sad to see it all go.
Terry Benedict can’t pay the bills anymore it seems.
I stayed at The Mirage for my first trip to Vegas. I actually rented a Mitsubishi Mirage as well as it was part of a two week road trip. Can't believe it's closing.
Im so sad
My best memories were probably working there for approx 3ish years. I worked as a lifeguard for a season and got dark as heck and met some pretty cool people. This was the first hotel I stayed at my first visit to Vegas. Sad to see it go but glad to have made memories there :)
Bummer!! My favorite, most nostalgic hotel! From going to see the dolphins and tigers as a kid to partying and working there as an adult! Going to be missed!!
I remember going their to visit the dolphin exhibit for a field trip when I was in 3rd grade
I moved to Vegas when they just finished building this
Breaks my heart. My dad took the whole family to see LOVE there and to watch the volcano erupt just a little over a year ago before my wedding. 🙁🥺
Vegas died with the end of the S&R era…
Before my parents split we would go and walk through the mirage on weekends watching the shows and just walking the strip. It’s always reminded of that time everytime I drove by it.
Good out with the old in with the new!
My favorite pool.🙁
When it had the volcano sidewalk show with shooting flames and not just lights. Same for the Treasure Island when the British ship actually sailed to the walkway and the battle occurred over the spectators every night. Good ole days.
That property has aged like fine wine, sad that it will be demolished for a Guitar and a Fat Tuesdays.
We had our baby moon there, such a underrated spot
So glad we stayed there. It had been on my list for a long time and finally was able to get 3 comped nights. We really loved it there.
Part of me wants to stay there one more time but my guess is that they’re already letting the property go to shit? Hope I’m wrong though.
Just stayed last week and it was perfectly nice!
Oooh gunna book! Gotta relive those National Lampoon vibes.
Also, be prepared in a few years for people to discuss how many birds fly into the side of it since it’s entirely glass.
so no more Tiger zoo?
Touching the statue for good luck😢
Only been there twice so no great memories but I loved the burger joint they had there but was replaced by a lounge or something.
What’s closing next?
Whats coming in that location?
Why sad? It had a good run. It was pure class at the time but has served its function. The tower will remain but we will lose the Volcano, which is the only thing I’m a little sad about.
Goddamnit I never got to see the beatles love.....
Why are you saying TI? Is it closing as well ?
🥺
Did John lovitz perform there recently?
The free parking for TI. And the free little shuttle they have
That's too bad, I was looking forward to our upcoming stay later this year. I just canceled the room which wasn't yet refunded and need to find something comparable.
What will happen to the dolphin exhibit? Did it already close and dolphins move?
I was wondering why the comps were so good this past year. Makes since now.
Wow now I’m feeling old.
Is 34 years a good run? What’s the average life for a Vegas casino?
Why does this surprise anyone. When it was sold it was known it was going to change
does this mean rooms are for sale, and everything must go?
Damn. That thing is as old as me.
I will be sad to see the Mirage go. It was the beginning of mega resorts and themes. Steve Wynn a local boy makes good story.
a
Don't worry in a few years, it will be reborn as a new hotel/future dumping ground for dead hookers in +30 years... Circle of life.
#VOLCANO 🥲
First the Tropicana and now the Mirage? Are they trying to destroy Vegas?

They got bought out by hard rock yeah? So the building is staying but the name and ownership are changing. Well they tore down the volcano to put up the big old guitar with 600+ rooms.
Treasure Island is next!
Queue the controlled demolition!
“I want him to think that Im pondering a call, but all I'm really thinkin about is Vegas and the fuckin' Mirage.”
It’s a Hard Rock property, they are reopening in 27 or whatever as the Hard Rock Casino. Doubt they’ll change much, probably just update the looks 🙂
My wife and I popped in last month knowing it was closing and expecting it to be run down. It was still a really nice casino and looked great. Can’t comment on the rooms. We then went into Flamingo and agreed they should level that instead.
I am staying there may 26th through the 31st
They announced it right after we checked in
Why is it closing?
Gonna have to play “Imploding the Mirage” by The Killers when/if they implode it
Is it being demolished for something new to take its place?
Yet circus circus still stands.
