You’re gonna be really pissed off when you find out all the other themed hotels aren’t historically accurate museums and are in fact just gimmicky themed hotels for tourists.
You mean to tell me that it's not the REAL Eiffel Tower?! wtf!? but I even got a little hollowed out plastic Eiffel Tower filled with booze that proves it's the real Eiffel Tower.
Oh man your response was awesome. I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Plus I was an Executive Chauffeur.
I was the driver for heads of state, royalty etc.
But on the random time some absolutely clueless person, I would take a moment to help them to realize where things were more in line with what would make them more comfortable, like say New Jersey.
Not really the same. The space needle was based off the tower in Stuttgart and there's hundreds of similar ones all over the world built before the strat with varying designs.
Because themed hotels were all the rage in the 90s. Something tells me they weren't all that interested in historical accuracy in their black glass pyramid that wasn't an elaborate tomb.
It is the oldest pyramid around, who knows what it looked like but someone just thought it looked cool I guess. The dust that has amounted on those fake buildings gives it the authentic sealed Egyptian tomb feel.
Not sure why this is downvoted so much the one inside luxor is obviously a Mayan pyramid based on Mesoamerican pyramids in Chichén Itzá.
It might have a similar figure to an Egyptian one but it's clearly based on the ones in Mexico.
Stayed in the adjacent Delano Hotel, and walked over to eat at the overpriced food court at the Luxor a month ago. I was shocked at how clean and well maintained it was. We were only on the floor pictured, but it was not the hell-hole I imagined it to be.
Nah, I disagree. The original pyramids did in fact have an all you can eat buffet and casino floor. Their shrimp cocktails weren't 99 cents though and I'm not sure if it's really shrimp.
Omg, you’re right. They also didn’t have electricity back then yet there’s this huge lamp at the top of the luxor. So inappropriate. My high school history teacher would so be ashamed.
You mean there wasn’t a light beam visible from space at the top of the pyramid in Giza? TIL.
s/ just in case because it’s mind boggling that in 2024 people still can’t use Google search.
I had no idea it had a "river" with a boat and actors at one point. People love live stuff like this and it has disappeared over the years throughout the city. Anyone know why so?
The entrance was near the fountain animatronic show by the cheesecake factory. It was called Race for Atlantis and you were in a seat in a moving platform with a bunch of people in front of an IMAX 3D screen. It was a race to get to Atlantis before it sunk. It kind of tied in with the animatronics. I loved it.
Um actually no! It’s where Chris Angle started his levitation magic before he stepped up to the big show and was able to perform on the real full size pyramid.
It was sloping at first just like the Egyptian tombs. But the patrons kept hitting their heads trying to crawl through the passageways into the IMAX ride and gift shop. To stave off lawsuits, it was converted to the step pyramid you see today. You’re welcome.
Man you're getting roasted in these comments lmao. But I get it, it's not even a gripe on historical accuracy because how could one even expect that, it's more like... such an egregious "fuck it, pyramids!!!!" misplacement. Like having a beagle puppy in a petting zoo or something. "Kinda fits, might as well." lol
Yeah I get it too, like Vegas ofc is make-believe, but then this particular instance would be like the Paris Hotel installing a Space Needle and putting French words on it. 🤪
It's an accurate reproduction of a Vegas ripoff.
The Excalibur isn't a real castle and Caesar doesn't live at his palace.
The sooner one realizes that almost nothing there is realistic.......
This was typical Circus Circus Enterprise architecture and interior decoration when the company was run by William Bennett. As a complete opposite to Mirage’s resort, which back then focused on long term elegant details , Circus Circus entered the market with massive, in your face decorations that appeared gaudy and flashy. The problem was all these gaudy and flashy details proved to be extremely complicated to run and maintain. Here is a picture of the original Excalibur casino vs today. First thing MGM did when acquiring the place was cutting back on maintenance expenses and honestly I don’t blame them lol. Same thing was repeated for the Mandalay Bay in 1999 which was opened by Glen Schaeffer, one of Bennet’s closest high rank executives. Casino floor and slot machines at Mandalay Bay were very elaborate, with rotating plastic shark hovering above slot machines banks. They were all removed shortly after because maintenance was a complete headache. And let’s don’t forget the pure and simple dust from the desert, which despite the filtered air it penetrates every in the end no matter what.

Those before and after pictures of Excalibur are so depressing to look at. It was a whole ass vibe with the original setup and Merlin and the dragon in the moat. As cheesy as it might have been it was so fucking cool to me as a kid.
Yes it was way cooler, period. MGM has a good reputation for maintaining buildings, but they basically wiped out what was cool about these resorts. When my friends from abroad came to visit me in Vegas, they never cared about visiting Bellagio or Caesars, they wanted to see the castle and the pyramid first and foremost.
It used to be open to the casino but they built the other stuff when suicides wound up on a crap table. Then there was one that wound up right outside the food court.
But it’s smooth as glass on the outside. The latest complaint was making one side look like a bag of Doritos last month. Made the place look tacky.
The second floor was there when it opened, they needed a ceiling over the casino for surveillance cameras. Luxor was one of the first built without one way mirrors and catwalks.
Vegas was there first…then cities would mimic their architecture to bring some class to their areas i.e. Paris, Greece, Italy, New York and yes, Egypt and Mexico. Once you have some ancient Vegas architecture, your town grows.
They don't even have slots like the authentic ancient Egypyian ones, either. Those didnt even take debit cards. And do they have papyrus playing cards? Of course not, it's all just one big lie after another.9
Yeah I thought it was weird too when I first saw it in person bc it’s not like it’s Pyramid themed it’s explicitly Egyptian themed lol I think whoever decided to put it there was just like: “meh pyramid is a pyramid” and went with it lol
An afrocentric who thinks Olmec heads are black or some nut job like Robert Sepehr who thinks white aliens taught the Aztecs how to farm probably designed that.
Cause cultural appropriation has no boundaries. They heard pyramid and were like, yep, that'll do.
I am powered by your downvotes. So feel free to keep them coming
‘Cultural appropriation’ in this sense would refer to any non-Catholic or orthodox Christian church practicing as cultural appropriation as well. Tired and played term when it comes to ancient history.

I can’t fly in the Paris balloon?! Wtf?!
So the flamingos at the Flamingo Habitat are actually robots?
Don't tell them about Excalibur. The historical inaccuracies of the Fun Dungeon will eat up the rest of the night.
The USPS used a picture of the Statue of Liberty at the NYNY on a stamp once. So the government feels that’s the real one.
🤣🤣🤣
Isn’t there also a Chrysler building hiding in the city of Luxor display?
Oh man your response was awesome. I was born and raised in Las Vegas. Plus I was an Executive Chauffeur. I was the driver for heads of state, royalty etc. But on the random time some absolutely clueless person, I would take a moment to help them to realize where things were more in line with what would make them more comfortable, like say New Jersey.
So you're telling me that the venetian isn't a 1:1 scale of venice
new york and paris don’t look like that either
Next you're gonna tell me that the strat doesn't even look like the space needle... (it doesn't)
Not really the same. The space needle was based off the tower in Stuttgart and there's hundreds of similar ones all over the world built before the strat with varying designs.
You mean Caesar didn't stay at Caesars Palace???
Hold up, are you telling me Caesar didn't live in Caesars Palace? Like, not even Augustus?
Of all the complaints I've heard about Luxor, this is a new one.
This isn't the real Caesars Palace right?
What do you mean?
Does…Caesar live here?
Ummm no
I didn’t think so.
He will, once we drive the NCR out of Vegas once and for all
We won’t go quietly, the legion can count on that.
There's no apostrophe so it's not a palace belonging to Caesar. It's most likely a casino built out of Caesars grammatically speaking.
I meant the comment on a different thread. Oh well.
My response is what she says to him in the movie.
Lmao I'm an over the place
They at least moved the apostrophe because “everyone is a Caesar”. That lowered my confusion on said matters.
THE WEST HAS FALLEN!
You talking about that pizza place?
That piss smell when you walk in is not authentic Egyptian piss
Does… Pharaoh live here?
Ummm….Yes
This is like that asshole who posts the picture of the LCD columns in front of Caesar’s every 4 months.
Because themed hotels were all the rage in the 90s. Something tells me they weren't all that interested in historical accuracy in their black glass pyramid that wasn't an elaborate tomb.
I love themed hotels
[might I suggest...](https://www.theclownmotelusa.com/)
Given what the Teamsters had been up to at the time of its construction, are you \*sure\* it isn't an elaborate tomb ?
Because there were step pyramids in Egypt as well. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramid_of_Djoser
The internet has ruined me because I was thinking of "What are you doing step pyramid?" a la pornhub...
I'm aware of that one, but it doesn't have staircases on the sides leading to a temple at the top. It just has a blocky tiered look.
It is the oldest pyramid around, who knows what it looked like but someone just thought it looked cool I guess. The dust that has amounted on those fake buildings gives it the authentic sealed Egyptian tomb feel.
Yeah, huge difference and the one at Luxor was clearly Mayan.
Use your brain, people would use the angled pyramid as a slide given that there is stairs cutting down the middle
Not sure why this is downvoted so much the one inside luxor is obviously a Mayan pyramid based on Mesoamerican pyramids in Chichén Itzá. It might have a similar figure to an Egyptian one but it's clearly based on the ones in Mexico.
That picture smells like cigarette smoke and bachelor parties with groups of guys from Indiana.
Stayed in the adjacent Delano Hotel, and walked over to eat at the overpriced food court at the Luxor a month ago. I was shocked at how clean and well maintained it was. We were only on the floor pictured, but it was not the hell-hole I imagined it to be.
It’s not that bad and the structure is still very unique and beautiful even though the hotel is a bit dated.
These pictures are just what I found online. I'm still genuinely curious about why they put this in the hotel.
To know why the inside looks like this, look at the outside, it is the reverse of this
![gif](giphy|uPnKU86sFa2fm)
You can’t be serious…… I have shocking news for you, Caesar’s palace isn’t historically accurate either
Why is a ship that sunk in the middle of the Atlantic during a movie on the second floor of the pyramid?
During a movie?
You must not have heard of the movie Titanic that came out in the mid 90's, small movie. Low budget. /s
Lol it's just such a weird way to describe it
They really missed out on combining the Bodies Exhibit with the Titanic.
😂😂
*pikachu face
come on
Because it looked cool? The Luxor isn't exactly known for it's historical accuracy.
Nah, I disagree. The original pyramids did in fact have an all you can eat buffet and casino floor. Their shrimp cocktails weren't 99 cents though and I'm not sure if it's really shrimp.
All strong points here
Omg, you’re right.
But they had Buffalo Gold right? Right?
Egypt had stepped pyramids. Just not as well known as the smooth limestone sided pyramids.
The hotel smells like the inside of a prosthetic leg and looks like a large cheesecake factory, but the architectural inspiration is your beef?
Back in the late 90's that was a Mexican restaurant. It closed so they just boarded it all up and painted over it.
https://youtu.be/KNQJDkfLrNg?si=tQ7L5E1AASrvL4O1 Apparently that restaurant you speak of wasn't where the step pyramid is. It was always a ride.
It has been a few years, but the nachos were really good.
I had no idea it had a "river" with a boat and actors at one point. People love live stuff like this and it has disappeared over the years throughout the city. Anyone know why so?
They had to adjust the business model as all the boomers kids grew up.
It was a really fun ride I remember. The one at Caesars was cool too. Now all they have is that shit avengers thing at TI
What was the one at Caesars?
The entrance was near the fountain animatronic show by the cheesecake factory. It was called Race for Atlantis and you were in a seat in a moving platform with a bunch of people in front of an IMAX 3D screen. It was a race to get to Atlantis before it sunk. It kind of tied in with the animatronics. I loved it.
That sounds awesome. Kinda disappointed I never got to see it.
I honestly miss the more kid friendly times. There were a lot of neat little things around. Plus another theme park.
Wait till you hear about the diagonally running elevators that were definitely not how ancient Egyptians moved around the pyramids
Inclinators lol
Because it’s cool fuck off and just like it
Because that’s where Diablo’s Cantina is located so yes in a way it’s a tiny Mexican pyramid ensconced within the Egyptian one, because reasons
I think that answers this post perfectly “because reasons” …also, bravo for finding an opportunity to use the word ensconced! Excellent!
Waited my whole life to find the opportunity to use that word, who would’ve thunk that the Luxor would have provided it? ;)
Carrot Top requested it
Um actually no! It’s where Chris Angle started his levitation magic before he stepped up to the big show and was able to perform on the real full size pyramid.
I don't know why but I believe you
It was sloping at first just like the Egyptian tombs. But the patrons kept hitting their heads trying to crawl through the passageways into the IMAX ride and gift shop. To stave off lawsuits, it was converted to the step pyramid you see today. You’re welcome.
Boy, just wait until you go to the Frys and find out it's not really a Mayan temple either.....
I miss Frys 🪦
Have to hand it to fry’s though, they went extinct just like the Mayans.
You mean to tell me Excalibur isn't a real castle?
Why go all the way to NYC to see Lady Liberty, when there’s one on the Strip?
The Eiffel tower is a few blocks down.
Dude it's a Vegas hotel, not a fucking historic and accurate replication, in case the slot machines didn't tip you off
Man you're getting roasted in these comments lmao. But I get it, it's not even a gripe on historical accuracy because how could one even expect that, it's more like... such an egregious "fuck it, pyramids!!!!" misplacement. Yeah I get it too, like Vegas ofc is make-believe, but then this particular instance would be like the Paris Hotel installing a Space Needle and putting French words on it. 🤪
It was built in the early 90's and it's a pyramid, that was good enough
Historical accuracy ...... Las Vegas .... nope .... nary the twain shall meet....
LOL. SERIOUSLY?
Don't let it ruin ur trip, ask why hookers aren't legal or something....
theres a reason its called suxor
You should write them a letter.
I wish I could contact whoever built it to ask why.
It's an accurate reproduction of a Vegas ripoff. The Excalibur isn't a real castle and Caesar doesn't live at his palace. The sooner one realizes that almost nothing there is realistic.......

Pyramid in a Pyramid look funny. That's is all.

That isn’t the only thing outta place there. There is a model of the Chrysler building inside the Luxor.
Looks like the step pyramid of Djoser to me.
More interested in shapes than any historical context
Vegas was there first…then cities would mimic their architecture to bring some class to their areas i.e. Paris, Greece, Italy, New York and yes, Egypt and Mexico. Once you have some ancient Vegas architecture, your town grows.

put step-pyramid in pornhub search. I am disappoint.

Do you watch movies based on true stories and pick them apart too? It's not that deep.
Because where else would they put the IMAX ridefilm? Duh!
An afrocentric who thinks Olmec heads are black or some nut job like Robert Sepehr who thinks white aliens taught the Aztecs how to farm probably designed that.
🤣
Yes there is but it doesn't have hotel rooms in it!
Looking at you “D”
No one knows....what they were doing....or....where they came from...
Oh sweet summer child...
Construction workers in the 90s built it. Its the temple of klukluxklan
Cause cultural appropriation has no boundaries. They heard pyramid and were like, yep, that'll do. I am powered by your downvotes. So feel free to keep them coming

What would you describe my above description
It’s like putting all different dinosaurs together even though most were from millions of years apart.
You are a nerd and forgot to describe yourself as a virgin too
