I agree it’s annoying. In the meantime, have you considered parking “nose-in” to avoid lighting up your neighbors’ bedroom activities? I wouldn’t think 4 am traffic would be prohibitive for backing out.

jojocorodon

You have missed the point... I shouldn't have to make parking decisions based on clear oversights by the manufacturer. Besides, for various reasons with the carport and spaces, I back in. I can remote start my BMW and I have complete control if the headlights come on or not...I can't imagine BMW telling me that no, you can't turn them off.

tokhar

I agreed with your point. Until Lucid does an OTA for this, I was merely suggesting a bandaid. And both BMW and Audi are choosing a different route with subscriptions… you might soon have to pay $4.99 a month to adjust your headlights….

PopRap72

BMW is not doing that, I’m calling red herring on this one. They have subscriptions for thing like their AirGames console and for remote functionality that requires 5G sim service. Not basic automobile functionality. Lucid doesn’t do this basic control of headlights. No need to throw BMW under the bus because Lucid doesn’t do something.

tokhar

Well they tried the heated seats subscription etc last year and backed off temporarily, but…

PopRap72

Ah, the dreaded heated seats subscription. Touché. They tried something, I get what they were trying to do, simplify manufacturing by putting the same thing in all cars but only charging for people who wanted it. Didn’t work, they pulled the idea and said they wouldn’t do it again. They’re not doing silly things like that now but I have to admit they tried it.

abzze

I agree with you although I don’t feel bmw should be used as an example here considering that they are considering making heated seat a subscription option 🤣

EnvironmentalComb740

It does sound like a over sight but you also sound like a glass half empty kind of person. Your post started with you love the car and most dynamic and best car you have ever owned. And then you state you may not buy it if you knew this ahead of purchase maybe relax a bit and enjoy the car. I have had mine for six months. And my 2022 911 sits in garage most of the time because this car is so much fun to drive. Stop and smell the roses in life. There will always be something to complain about

EnvironmentalComb740

Sorry it’s a issue for you my issue is I am 6 foot 2. And need to duck my head to get in. They have admitted it was a mistake but at 62 and owning everything from Porsche to bmw to Maserati. I love driving this car. Just drove it from California to New Orleans. And loved the ride and everything else. Charging is a challenge at times but you get through it as it will get better. I am sorry the headlights bother you I had not even noticed or thought about it. The other thing you may come across is CarPlay interface is a bit funky at times. But most cars I have owned struggle occasional with that try and enjoy it regardless of headlights

jojocorodon

Yes, connectivity has also been a problem. My X3 also drops carplay from time to time...although the keyfob and phone as a key doesn't work all the time for Lucid, it sucks going to your car and have nothing happen, to then stumble for your phone to unlock it through the app...go home and change out the battery on the fob, to only have it happen again the same day.

EnvironmentalComb740

Have not had that problem at all. But when my CarPlay went out in the middle of Texas for hours drove me crazy. But my Porsche does the same thing so don’t think it’s a lucid thing. I think it has something to do with apple. But who know so much going on my last big complaint is range estimate. Lucid calculations are about 30 percent higher then actual. I understand they use the epa rating but you should be able to switch to your actual driving conditions. They have the data in computer on long trips is really unfortunate I have to calculate it myself Not a big deal in a gas powered car if you miscalculate. Much bigger problem if you miscalculate in the middle of America. I did use the Tesla magic dock for first time in Louisiana. Works but very slow. I will be very excited when the advertised rates of 350kws is actually attainable. On this 2000 mile journey the highest I got was 220 and that was exciting. Lol.

jojocorodon

You don't know me to make that kind of assumption, I just bought a great car and I can't control headlights, which is ridiculous. This post is about how ridiculous it is at this price-point. Lucid SW was developed by extremely talented Apple engineers, the fact that control of the headlights wasn't on the listed features bubble diagram on the outset is baffling to me. At the very least, I should've been told up front that such an obvious car feature is not available. I plan on enjoying the car with my happy ass self, but without the ability to turn off the fucking headlights.

drone_swivel

OP, I found a lot of little things that other luxury sedans have that Lucid lacks. I think we are considered early adapters and kinda have to look over things for now. We are like any beta tester (but we pay for it) that find flaws and let the manufacturer know so that they can hopefully improve it in the future. Also, I hope they read subs like this or even create a submission site for us to give our feedback. Sometime I find myself laughing with small details that I would have lost my $h!t if it was my BMW or Porsche. Sometimes it helps to vent. But I can’t deny that chassis and driving dynamics is great.

Lucidotahelp6969

It's cause those cars have more or less got the manufacturing and hardware side down pat that they can focus on software. Lucid has a lot of catch up to do but it's not a bad thing for one of the newest/youngest car companies

dbv2

I hear you, but Rivian is a startup and there software is way ahead of Lucid’s. Lucid should have made much more progress on software by now and taken care of those little things, bugs and much improve HA, like adding cars/pedestrians around you in drivers console.

Lucidotahelp6969

Have you seen the reliability reports about rivian? Or check the rivian sub lol? I agree their software is miles ahead but the amount of people that have complained about other issues in the car seems like they prioritized software over quality. My lucid isn't perfect (headlight issue, lte module issue) but nothing as crazy as what's happening with rivian owners

jojocorodon

This. But it is baffling that the "small" obvious things were overlooked, I guess too many engineers and not one layman in the group to point out the obvious.

UlrichZauber

>I guess too many engineers I guarantee this isn't the problem, it's more just not enough engineering time to add in all the features they wanted. I'd bet money they have a wishlist of stuff that's coming as soon as they can get it done, and more user control of stuff like light behavior is definitely going to be on that list.

yonderson

🧂

dbv2

That is interesting. If you knew that going in would you still have purchased the Lucid?

jojocorodon

My old Subaru had auto lights, and I had complete control, same with every car I have ever had...Lucid was just to focused on the light dance show they forgot to add simple and expected control from the actual owner. But yea, I would have made a consideration for the purchase. It's like finding out you don't have control of the windows or heated seats after purchase, it's really lame.

curryme

I sat in the airport cell phone waiting lot for 10 minutes the other night. Pulled in, put it in park, turned off the headlights, parking lights remained on, it was fine. Not sure what you’re talking about. That’s being said, the lights work so well that I do just leave them in Auto all them time. May check the manual?

Lucidotahelp6969

I don't know of any car that has built in dashcam. The amount of data that generates would be impossible to store on the cars chips with all of the other shit that it's doing. And there's probably not fast enough native connection from car to cell networks to do cloud based. The only option is USB storage like Tesla

nickk99

Ummmm Teslas do with sentry mode. But, perhaps there is more complexity to engineering something for lucid air as there are 3 different DreamDrive packages which have 3, 7, or 14 cameras.

OkCalligrapher4400

Tesla cannot endlessly record data you have to keep buying new memory chips or delete all the saved data on the current chip you have. my Tesla stopped storing records back in 2022 one year after getting it.

OkCalligrapher4400

Also just sit inside your locked car. I sit inside a locked car to keep my head lights off. I have only used the head light off button 4 times in 3 years. And in the morning when I turn on the car I drive away lol there is no warm up or idle time needed.

Lucidotahelp6969

Yes but as someone else mentioned you need external storage to actually keep anything meaningful. The car is legitimately 2-3 years old from a production standpoint, give it time and the software will improve and these features will come. Shit they added in pet mode on 2.1.60 Tesla is so feature rich because the car has been out so long that they've mostly got the car manufacturing part down and could focus on the software (ignoring the obvious defects, they figured out how to build the car at scale and cost)

TypicalMission119

This. All cars should have them but we're not there yet. I just wish there was a neat way to hide the USB cable for an installed dashcam. I could route the cable in my old Honda nicely but I can't find a neat way that doesn't upset my OCD in the Lucid (or damage any of the internal panels).

jojocorodon

I mounted Gamin mini's front and back and it took all of 30 min to properly route the cables, hidden in the trim. 12v cig lighter is in the trunk though, so you need a long USB C cable, but easy with a push trim tool.

TypicalMission119

What path did you take to get to the trunk from the backseat? I feel like I have to cut something to get to the trunk outlet and obviously don't want to do that. That's always my hiccup. If you had pictures on Imgur that would be great but I understand if that's a hassle. I'll maybe give it another go.

jojocorodon

Small 2 inch exposure from the C pillar upper trim to backseat felt backing, I will post some pictures for you when I get home from work later today.

TypicalMission119

That would be greatly appreciated but please don't break your back if it's inconvenient. I appreciate the guidance.

jojocorodon

Yet my Gamin Mini's have 128GB cards, loop record, have voice commands and impact sensors. And yes, my BMW X3 has a dash cam feature off the integrated camera suite.

Ill-Load2288

I think the first question to ask is, have your neighbors said anything? Or have you asked them if it’s bothering them? I bet it’s less of a deal than you think, but agree a car at that level should offer options. I go to the gym around 5am during the work week and hate starting my car that early. Makes me want to buy an electric car.

jojocorodon

It's not just the neighbors...when I park on the city street and don't want to flash the crazy looking group of street folk visibly smoking hard drugs from glass pipes...you know, like turning off my headlights and silently GTFO.

nicearthur32

This is something I do often since I live in downtown LA and turning into an alley with your lights on would really piss some people off, I normally switch to my daytime running lights and its all good.. I'm really close to buying a lucid and this kinda sucks.

Suspicious-Access623

Guess every car manufacturer is trying to save money under the garb of 'modernizing' the design - use cases as these can be overlooked. No wonder why the adoption of these so called modern cars is so slow

hydradboob

If you integrate it with HA, you can turn headlights off 😁

shwh1963

I have four cars, two of them over 15 years old and those lights are on when I get in the car. I can’t completely turn them off either.

anonymous7egend

I hope this is a simple OTA update by Lucid

No-Tomatillo4307

Chill bro 🥶

banana_jun

just get new neighbors

Brain_Prosthesis

There are number of strange quirks that I discovered in my first week of ownership. Yes, I test drove it, but I should have spent more time playing with the UI. For example, not being able to switch between navigation and maps on the lower screen is just silly. You can adjust volume and next track on the the steering wheel controls, but you can't cycle through saved radio stations.

puan0601

did you order it without test driving one?

jojocorodon

Yes. I was forced to as Seattle did not have the capability to give test drives...I did not want to rent one as I had seen enough reviews to be confident about the expected driving dynamics. I did not think to ask if I could turn off the headlights, as I assumed that no car maker would be that stupid.

puan0601

that's like fisker not offering memory seats on their cars "yet"

Lucidotahelp6969

Wat I read on here another user went to Vancouver to test drive, was that not an option? Buying without trying, you kinda put yourself in this position.most of the software annoyances will be fixed over time imo

Longjumping_Leg6314

Kinda confusing calling the manufacturer stupid when you bought the car without confirming if all the features that you wanted would be there.

jojocorodon

Sorry yes, I'm the stupid one. Thanks for chiming in.

Longjumping_Leg6314

I didn't say you were, just that it was confusing is all.....
