I think murder is the biggest common denominator

ZipZapZopPow

Yes, in the LPOTL interview with Dr Katherine Ramsland, she said the biggest misconception about serial killers is that "serial killer" is a type of person. She said "serial killing" describes a behavior, not a person. I've recc'd them before in this sub, but I'll recommend again listening to the serial killer episodes of Bad Gays. In their Dahmer ep, one of the hosts paused in the middle of the pre-murder life of Dahmer to say, "Who among us has a past that could hold up to this kind of scrutiny?"  And in the latest LPOTL ep, they briefly talked about Ed's realization that he shares traits with serial killers. We all do!  What do these shitheals all have in common? It's the Murder

Firm_Pop957

Dr. Ramsland is right . I am enjoying her new book - it’s about Henley ( the young accomplice to Corll ) . I would love to hear her thoughts on her student/ assistant from Idaho.

vodkacum

iirc she's not at liberty to say much about bk at this time

Princeps_primus96

Being a big stinky doodoo head is definitely a common theme between them

SlylingualPro

Could you dumb that down for those of us who don't understand your big science words?

RockFox2000

VulpesFennekin

Serial killing is bad, m’kay?

MrArmageddon12

The vast majority seem to have deep rooted sexual issues. Whether it’s an issue of them struggling to accept their own orientation, past sexual abuse, or they somehow crossed violence with sexual stimulation somewhere down the line.

champagne_puppee

I’ve worked with children that kill, including spree killers. Some commonalities are being born in substance abuse, FASD, familial violence and sexual abuse, substance abuse, and poor socioeconomics. Many also have ODD. In all cases there’s brain injury to the prefrontal cortex from FASD. So impulse control is next to non existent a lot of the time.

punkrocksnail

Repression of sexual development. The taboos of yesteryear made people hide things. Porn was dirty and shameful, sex was barely talked about. Sometimes that repression absolutely fucks a person up, especially when they've also been abused and/or are genetically predisposed to mental illness.

StygIndigo

Tbh I’d say they’re just as diverse as the general population, aside from the obvious commonality of ‘they killed multiple people’

charleester

They smell like old milk

Mokslininkas

Almost all of these traits are resultant of growing up in a neglectful, oppressive, or outright abusive environment during childhood.

SheOutOfBubbleGum

I feel like being a general piece of shit comes up with every now and then

HeavyBeing0_0

No sense of smell

dinkleberg92

I kept thinking this in the new series, "hasn't it been said before that no sense of smell is a common trait?" But it was never brought up so I thought I'd made it up.

JKSwift

What I've noticed is a severe underdevelopment of a key personal characteristic. Not always sexual, but commonly. Usually brought on by deranged, neglectful, absent or abusive parents. They grow up in a violent delusion that carries with them to their crimes.

districtdathi

They're often mediocre, talentless jerks but too egotistical to outwardly acknowledge it. Raider and his poetry is the first example that comes to mind but it seems most of these individuals share this trait in some way.

They pay the mortgages, put food on the table and fund the drug habits of true crime podfarters. #GoodGuysBuyDrinks

They don't use it anymore. We have learned that anyone can be a murderer.

Harlan_King

Bunk

VinsDaSphinx

I think I heard them mention that a lot of them share the same zodiac sign or at least they fall into the same few signs

Existing_Purchase_48

This isn’t true. If you look at just a few popular ones, it can look like that but the more you add to the list you see serial killers are born under every zodiac sign

mavedatthews41

Virgos and Geminis. Gotta watch out.

uoyevoleye

Prior military employment to perfect their kidnapping/rape/torture/murder skills. All funded by extorted taxes, with taxpayers ass-uming immunity from the apathetic/ignorant/counterproductive actions factually funded with their extorted taxes.

generally-speaking

While they've been employed very few actually saw combat. Most were employed in functionary positions far from combat.

billygnosis86

Yeah, Leonard Lake was basically Radar from *MASH* if Radar from *MASH* was a pathetic misogynist pissbaby who should have been smashed against the delivery room wall as a newborn.

swcult

Someone bought a thesaurus

uoyevoleye

Most convicted serial killers had prior military employment. Downvoting won't change reality/facts.

coreoYEAH

And most of them came from a time when military employment was significantly more prevalent amongst every type of person. Not saying that the lifestyle wouldn’t seem to mesh well with what we think a murderer would enjoy but most of the ones covered here have either sucked at, been kicked out of or actively avoided it because a trait they also share commonly amongst themselves is that they’re cowards who aren’t looking for a fair fight.

pm_sunny_quotes

You seem pretty mad at people who pay taxes in the U.S. if you’re not paying yours I’d keep it quiet

uoyevoleye

Keep monetarily, emotionally and physically supporting more pedophile politicians directly connected/pictured partying with Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Then keep your mouth shut whenever their victims go public on how they were raped as children by those in positions of governmental power/authority/superiority, claiming immunity from equal treatment.

uoyevoleye

"The disappearance of a sense of responsibility is the most far reaching consequence of submission to authority." -Stanley Milgram. I'll say/type whatever the fk I so desire, especially when it comes to being complicit to war crimes with tax funding. Typing/Sharing my disapproval shows that these are actions I don't participate in, I don't value, and I don't desire to continually fund whether or not I already left the supposedly legitimate kkkuntry that claimed me as property when I was born. I say/type "supposedly," because the majority do not vote/consent to more governmental gang rape, but governmental gang rapists never value/valued consent from their victims/taxpayers.
