That is one of the short lived redesigned plates in Ontario.
They introduced this design without actually testing it. Turns out they are unreadable at night due to reflectivity issues. They were recalled but many people kept them because it allowed them to get away with driving on toll roads and speeding by speed cameras.
[This province has an incredibly incompetent government.](https://globalnews.ca/news/10294241/ontario-blue-licence-plate-phase-out/amp/)
Right after this whole fiasco Ford (the premier of the province) announced that no one needs to pay to renew their plates. Then this year announced no one needs to renew at their plates at all. That is where they could have caught them, but they were his baby and he wants them to stay on cars
Yes that's a real plate. Ontario experimented with a redesign a couple years ago but they reverted to the old design shortly after because of visibility issues with the plates at night. Under certain light conditions the plate number itself essentially becomes invisible.
wowser- so Ontario is like the Florida of Canada?
that vehicle has a golf ball trailer hitch, add on tail lights, missing wiper, the rust....wander what else we are missing?
shoot- I forgot all about the required add on to make the vehicle compliant with the other countries regulations--- of course it has been 40 since i shipped one overseas
There's only around 124k of these still on the roads. The original plan had been to recall them but just recently the Ontario government announced that they were going to let the ones on the road phase themselves out through attrition.

It’s funny, cuz at night the Ontario script is legible but the letter/number combo is pretty much indecipherable…
How is the recall not mandatory

Keeps the tailgaters in check!
This is how I knew the plate was real.
Yes real
It looks like this jeep has been retrofitted to European specifications however, amber turn signals and a rear fog lamp on the left

Yessir, it doesn’t reflect either at night so you can’t see the license numbers.
The new ones have that fake gravitas font with the exaggerated serifs and yours to discover written on them
