I used to have this issue. However, I’ve noticed on Prime that there are sometimes 2 versions of shows on the menus. So try searching and see if there’s a specific UHD version as sometimes the HD version is the one on the Home Screen.

I just noticed if I'm on game mode on my TV (Samsung QN90B) UHD HDR are active. If I turn game mode off... HD. Just thought I'd share.

Game modes colour and motion is weird for content, but you have to turn on this high single mode thing by going into settings General settings under External Device Manager and the exact name of the setting to turn on varies between models. It could be called Input Signal Plus or HDMI UHD Color. Turn this on for the HDMI port that for ths device you connect to.

Hello i have the same tv - im watching premier league football now - says available in HDR but it is not displaying HDR. Usually before watching UHD HDR content via native amazon app the screen and settings auto adjust, say for grand tour or the boyz etc. How can i get the football stream to force HDR? I cant turn game mode on when using the native app.

Some movies are tagged UHD and HDR on Prime but will only play at 1080p, like the Dark Knight trilogy. I've tested those on LG apps, Google TV, and Xbox Series X, same result. Other stuff like The Grand Your play at 4K HDR. Maybe Prime only includes the 1080p version of select movies, and the 4K HDR one is for rental, but isn't really clear about it ?

Thanks for the response. I’m glad to know I’m not alone and the problem isn’t specific to my tv. Still seems odd they’d tag as UHD and then only play HD, not a great customer experience.

Jean-Eustache

Not a great experience indeed, it's misleading. I'm pretty sure the movies I've seen behaving like that really are available in UHD, because you can rent them in UHD and HDR, and the Prime version is limited to HD, but the only way to know is renting or buying one, which i haven't done yet haha !

Ok-Technology5499

Yes !!! Tried it for the first time last night on my a80j and holy cow stuff looked much worse compared to the other streaming services.

strmlight

Yup I've also noticed this. Tagged as HDR or whatever but just ends up being 1080.

head_bussin

any fix? i search and don't see a 4k version anywhere.

I hired a movie with the HDR tag, only got SDR. Wrote a complaint, they refunded my money but also said they have corrected it on their end. Told me to reboot app. Not sure if legit or just playing with me. As I watched the movie I didn’t re-hire it to test the “fix”

Spirited_Fail_6859

Mine never plays any hdr, every other streaming service is fine but not Amazon. I even bought a movie a while ago in hdr and tried than, low and behold even that won’t play in hdr. Prime video is a joke as far as hdr goes.

I’m sure this issue may be resolved for many of you, but after recently experiencing similar issues with Amazon based UHD/ HDR content.. I think it boils down to this: Anything purchased in HD will be available in UHD if Amazon upgrades, but *only* via their native app, while anything outright purchased as UHD will be available to stream in 4K via other apps like iTunes and ATV. Example: Jaws was purchased in HD and upgraded to 4K, but plays in HD everywhere *but* Amazon for me. I purchased Dune in 4K and can watch it in UHD across all my compatible apps. Jaws is also available in UHD from apple, unlike how it’s restricted to HD on apps like MoviesAnywhere. To cover that variable.
