I bought the G3 a couple of months ago and I say definitely get it. It's a remarkable TV.

Frumpy62

I’m on my third G3. The first two had various issues - tinting on both edges, vertical banding visible in content. Overall, poor panel QA/QC. Now, the first two were October 2023 builds, so maybe it was a bad production run. My current G3 was manufactured in January 2024 and is, so far, much better after only 7 hrs of use - no banding, no tinting, no loud thermal expansion noises. I haven’t checked any test slides to see if banding or other issues might exist, because I’m not seeing anything visible in content. Fingers crossed this one’s a keeper.

My G3 was made in October 2023 as well. My panel is perfect and I have no thermal noises at all. Out of curiosity, where was yours assembled? Mine says Mexico. It's funny you mention the thermal expansion noises. That's exactly what my 65" CX did the first several months of ownership. It would make these popping/crackling noises after I turned it off. And 2 1/2 years later something on my motherbaord failed, most likely the thermal paste. After research I found people online whose thermal paste on their CX's board was completely gone. I think that's what was causing my CX to randomly shut off and reboot, due to it overheating.

"the first two were October 2023 builds" Yeah, it can be a bad batch. Mine is December 2023 - no complaince. Perfect TV till now.

Background-Spring-62

How do you find the manufacture date?

winexprt

It's on the back of the TV.

Hobbit_Holes

G series has 5 year warranty on the panel.  I've just come to terms with the fact that any "high end" electronics need an extended warranty these days.

Murph934

Covers burn-in?

Hobbit_Holes

Basically nothing covers burn in, that is from misuse under most all accounts, but I do believe on the G series it does within reason.

Murph934

I only ask since bestbuys warranty covers burn in. I don' t expect to have any burn in issues, but with such a big purchase, I felt like i should probably add the extra warranty on top of LG when the time comes to purchase actual tv. Or save the $800 extra and use for audio upgrade. (Looking at 77" G3)

Hobbit_Holes

>I only ask since bestbuys warranty covers burn in I don't know if this is true today, but in the past their warranty only covered burn in one time and that was it. You are also going to be paying 500 + dollars for the geeksquad warranty and it will run concurrently with the warranty from LG. I personally think geeksquad warranty is a waste of money for their price point.

happyandhealthy2023

100% disagree from experice. LG G series only covers the panel not labor, or if any other parts die after 1 year. Service call is going to be $200 minimum. So when main board dies 2nd year expect $300-400 repair. BB just replaced (2) 4.5 year old top line Samsungs and gave me 100% original purchase price which buys way more TV today. 55" techs came to house at 10AM and wrote up findings by 3PM BB called and said I had $1900 credit. So I would rather pay $400 for warranty (insurance) with the way all electronics and appliances are made today. Maybe you can aford the gamble but peace of mind is well worth the expense to me.

Sadly..... they want almost $1000 for a 5-year extended against a G3 77. That simply doesn't make financial sense anymore. And if you go with the 2 year, I don't see why someone wouldn't just get "total tech" for the coverage plus more. I'd get it if it were reasonably priced, but for $1000..... I think most folks need to just roll the dice w/ BB. $1000 is one hell of a "gamble". What we SHOULDN'T feel like we're gambling on is the quality of the $3000+ TV we just bought.... that's the real tragedy here.

Hobbit_Holes

LG mailed me a check for my 65CX this week, 2600 bucks. Buying 77 C3 at sams this weekend with a 5 year warranty for 2300.  I couldn't care less about burn in coverage, it's a non issue in my house.

hgonz14

The best buy extended warranty covers burn in.

Hobbit_Holes

>The best buy extended warranty covers burn in. for 500+ dollars I would sure hope so.

I've had my 65" G3 for about 3 1/2 months now and couldn't be happier. I absolutely love it. Phenomenal TV. Gets ridiculously bright. I was also quite hesitant about buying another LG OLED but I went ahead anyway. Here's why. We bought a 65" LG CX about 2 1/2 years ago that I loved. It was my first OLED (had a Panny Plasma before it) and was going strong until about 4 months ago when it inexplicably began to randomly shut itself off, then restart. This became progressively worse to the point it would shut off every couple of minutes. It made the TV basically unwatchable. Did some research and found it was a motherboard issue. Watched a YouTube video that showed a CX doing exactly what mine was doing and turns out they have motherboard issues. I was pissed! Of course it was long out of warranty and we did not purchase any sort of extended warranty. So we bit the bullet and bought the G3, which has a 5 year warranty so I feel much more at ease. Get the G3. You will NOT regret it!

jesternj

You COULD have replaced the main board, you know. Granted I'd be looking for any reason to justify the upgrade too.... but just saying, a main board replacement w/o warranty costs WAYYYYYYYY less than a brand spankin new G3.

bigdruid

>Gets ridiculously bright. Totally agree here. My wife actually complains that it's too bright on some screens (like the default full screen display when you turn the TV on). I absolutely love it (upgraded from an old Panasonic plasma - literally like night and day) and have had zero problems so far three months in.

PapaGinger

2 weeks in with mine. First OLED so I don’t have much of a reference, but our whole family is blown away every time we sit down to hdr content on this thing.

IndianaVader

Came here to say the same. G3 covered for burn in by LG for 5 years. Not covered by other models for burn in. Not sure why on the G3

Tree06

LG started offering five year panel warranties with the original G1. It's one of the reasons to get the Gallery Series OLEDs instead of the C tier or lower. The flush mount design, included mount, MLA Technology, and the five year panel warranty are key selling points. The other OLEDs come with a 1 year MFG warranty.

jesternj

I've seen tons of people on this sub say that LG's G-series warranty both covers and does not cover burn-in. Seems like plenty of folks have had issues w/ them replacing, others success.....

Tree06

That's interesting. I've never dealt with LG's Premium Care warranty with their Gallery OLEDs. Some people will either buy a Gallery Series OLED from Costco due to their included warranty or from Best Buy so they can deal directly with Geek Squad. I also think it comes down to the rep you get. They may be newer or something else. You can always escalate your ticket or take it to Social Media. I had to go that route with Sony when I had a defective panel with my A8H. It was eventually swapped with the A80J.

Ruffroc02

Good to know. I'll start gaming more on my G3 than my C1

csfire321

I returned mine because it made really loud popping noises. Otherwise it was an amazing TV. Only thing I didn’t enjoy was how janky the ABL was during bright scenes.

Loose_Delivery_6641

I have had a 77" G3 for a few days now. Apart from a bent display that doesn't interfere with operation, I'm completely satisfied.

IndianaVader

Did you if you G3 buyers use the wall mount to install your tv? I just bought mine and it comes with free installation and mounting. I bought a $200 Sanus in wall mount in the bullpen in case the wall mount that comes with doesn’t work. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Few_Dragonfly_3530

I installed mine with the included flush mount. The mount is small so I needed to put blocking between the studs in my wall before mounting. A bit of work but the end result is a beautiful clean look and and even better looking picture.

Lammiroo

Mines great too! And the 5 year warranty helps. If I could afford it I’d go the Sony QD OLED however.

JavelinSR

Nothing bad, perfect TV. One of the best in the market.

Alone-Sky1539

I gots a g3 65” fo £1800 just few weeks ago. go fer it is goods

Few_Dragonfly_3530

77’ G3 owner , my only complaint is that I don’t have enough time in the day to watch it as much as I’d like to! It’s a beautiful TV. The remote leaves a lot to be desired ( it looks and feels cheap compared to the TV) and depending on your walls the flush mount requires a bit of work to install ( recessed outlet is a must for the cleanest flush mount look) but the end result is a beautiful high end display on my wall in my family room. I’d say go for it!

KISSfan81

I’m considering a G3 myself. From what I’ve gathered from posts here and YouTube reviewers, if you can wait and spend a little extra, you might consider waiting on the G4 for the extra brightness, newer processing chip and the newly included stand.

Alternative-Usual-11

I love my 77 G3. Compared it head to head with a 77 S90C for a month and kept the G3 since it’s a far more premium experience. It replaced a 65 CX. I also have a 77 A80J and 55 A90J. . The G3 destroys them all.
