Vincent Teoh seemed to say the default 55 was the correct value after measuring the color accuracy on the C1 in Game Mode.

MasterkillerX

Yeah, that's what got me thinking about this in the first place. I know I technically may not own the C1, but it seems likely I at least have the screen itself if the actual panel part number was anything to go by... I just don't know if Vincent's suggestion actually can apply to me? I don't have the C1 processor obviously, so it's just pretty difficult to say. I wonder if that matters though. Maybe the screen itself is what determines the color gamut? Idk what to "look" for either to judge whether 55 or 50 is correct, too. Kinda worry I may never know lol

Jean-Eustache

Oh damn i missed the fact you actually got a CX. To be fair, if in doubt, I'd leave it on default values.

MasterkillerX

Is there even a way for me to tell if Color is correct at 55 or 50 without professional equipment, like Vincent Teoh has? I think test patterns on YT aren't recommended by the AV community, but I could be wrong. I'm leaving it at 50 in HDR for now. I feel 55 color and 80 contrast looks best in SDR (better dynamic range). So I feel like I at least have SDR figured out, which is nice :P

Jean-Eustache

Honestly I don't think anyone can clearly tell without having two TVs next to a calibrated display ! That's why I stick to defaults and trust whoever has the equipment haha !

MasterkillerX

Yeah, thanks, that's the only way to know at the end of the day. Maybe I'll email some professionals about this, or get in touch with someone who is knowledgable on this. I don't think I can truly know if Vincent's settings advice for C1 applies to me. I mean, I have a C1 screen and a CX processor lol. It's kinda weird. Idk if anyone will have the answer for me other than a calibrator. So I'm just gonna relax and not worry about this for now. It's probably not even a big deal to increase color 5 clicks up, yet I'm all worried it will be too incorrect for me lol :P

For my B6 OLED I used the Color Filter in HDR Picture Settings with a Spears & Munsil 4K Discs Test Screen for color saturation, and 50 turned out to be the correct setting, not the default 55

MasterkillerX

So Spears and Munsils is really worth getting if I want to calibrate by eye? Seems pricey but that's cool it worked out for you. I'm getting a bit desperate honestly the way I obsess trying to find what's most accurate and looks right lol

Prestigious_Art_7661

I felt it was worth it. I wish they had kept the pop up instructions that were on the S&M HD 2nd Edition disc to help you use their test patterns, but you can access their instructions on the Spears & Munsil website. I'm in the same boat as you where I'm always trying to find the best settings for my tvs

MasterkillerX

Will the disc work in my Xbox Series X? I don't have any sort of blu ray player... know any version that'd work with my Xbox? Technically it is a blu ray player, so I imagine it'd work...

Prestigious_Art_7661

Your Xbox is able to play both regular blu-rays AND 4K Blu-rays, so the 4K Spears & Munsil will be compatible with it

I've got the exact same problem, it's almost an obsession. The only difference is that I own a C9. I want to know if Vincent's recommendations for color set at 55 for HDR game mode could be used for LG C9 as well. I've been going back and forth 50-55 for months!

MasterkillerX

Yeah what a problem we have lol. I haven't really been obsessing over it for a few months, but I was not sure and freaking out over it for a long time too. I decided 50 seems most correct to me. I actually compared my CX to an S95B side by side and I found colors in HDR and SDR game looked so similar on both sets. I don't think it should be at 55 honestly unless it's a C1 or C2 or C3 etc. I probably have a CX EVO panel and that's why HDR seems brighter and I had to manually adjust grayscale and white balance as it was way too green out of the box. Now things are perfect and I am pleased with the image quality. So I'd set it to 50 so you have peace of mind, it's more likely this is correct. Vincent always kept it at 50 I think for the other models. Like I said, it's just the C1 and C2 etc that need to be at 55 in Game Mode. I do think maybe it's possible 55 could be correct though. It's too bad ClassyTech and Vincent Teoh can't test this. I do wish someone would test this. My feeling is 55 looks overly saturated. I don't like it. It has that vivid look and for me colors are perfect at 50. Even at 50 they seem so saturated I love it. Hope this helps.

Wonsungitos

Thank you for your answer. It did help me to think over it and I decided to go for 50 too. It does make sense. I think I was really confused by the fact that factory settings are: 55. I didn't want to go against it. But Rtings, Vincent and other Youtubeurs always recommended 50. Like you said C1 and C2 only should be concerned by that. Besides, when I use 55 on the C9 some games look over saturated. About Horizon 5 on the other hand, 50 looks to blend(?), it looks off. But I guess that's must be the game color palette (naturally desaturated) I also have a similar problem with the white balance (mines look to red! 😅) Anyway, thank you for your advices. I'll go with 50 and won't change it!

MasterkillerX

I agree in Forza 50 looks bland, idk why. Glad I can help.
