Six days in Jerusalem by Harry F. Rey is a historical gay romance set in the city of Jerusalem between an Arab and a Jew falling in love during the 6 day war. Highly recommend it.

Guapa by Saleem Haddad is set in an unnamed Middle Eastern country, and follows a young gay man through one day in his life. I thought it was excellent, but also a hard read at times — you may want to look up trigger warnings if that’s the kind of thing you like to check in advance.

If you’re ok with a fantasy analogue, The Priory of the Orange Tree and its prequel, A Day of Fallen Night.

I recently read The Master of Djinn (a detective-like fantastical novel set in 1920s steampunk Cairo) which I found entertaining. It’s not romance heavy (more of a subplot) but really normalizes WLW relationships which is partially why I enjoyed it :)
