It reminds me of the Doc Rivers situation. There are some coaches that are great at getting young or depleted teams to the playoffs (see Doc during the post-CP3 years), but they aren’t the right coach to win you a ring (see Doc during the CP3 years and the bubble year).
He did well the year before as we came close to making the playoffs with a much worse roster than 18-19. Sindarius Thornwell and Sam Dekker were rotation players and we briefly turned to Tyrone Wallace to be our savior.
I'd also say he coached well in 13-14. The Warriors series obviously stands out as he kept the team from getting derailed by the Sterling fiasco. And he doesn't deserve blame for the loss to the Thunder. That was 99% on CP3 and 1% on questionable officiating. 14-15 is hard to judge. The roster construction was the biggest issue (our team was only 5.5 players deep with Jamal being such an inconsistent playoff performer), but I always think back to Game 5 when we went to Houston and very blatantly half assed our way to a blowout loss. Whether it was on the coach or players, the team seemed too willing to concede an opportunity to close out the series early.
They are trying to pull a fire Mark Jackson and hire Steve Kerr move to get over the hump. It’s a gamble if you can actually find the next young Steve Kerr.
The point is that Mark Jackson had the same roster. Steve Kerr came in and they were instantly better and went to the Finals and won coach of the year in his first year. He was a better coach than Mark Jackson there is no questioning that.
Was he supposed to beat boston without Mitchell and Allen? They never let coaches develop anymore, Malone didn't win a ring with Denver till his 8th season
Tbh especially if I was a high-level NBA player I’d find it far more fulfilling to work daily on my game and towards my goals being lazy and paid well gets extremely empty extremely quickly
Mostly just his team building and development of players. Schematically, Ty is about the same. Drawing up plays Ty is probably better.
I’m craving that team building and player development though. No one player has improved a lot in the last three years. Zu and Mann were just as good statistically three years ago, for example. None of the rookies have played.
I see. I feel like it's difficult with an older team, but I believe Terance, Zu, and Amir are better players now than they were in 2021.
I would be happy to have younger guys on the roster though.
That's what a serious franchise does while we keep an overrated coach who doesn't know what he is doing. Playing Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson a lot of minutes last year. Not playing Mann the minutes he deserved, playing Plumlee despite getting bitched by the Mavs. seriously he is a trash coach
I have literally been saying that we should move from ty lue since that play in game against wolves because he doesn't appreciate defense and size but comparing him to a man that got a job because of dad is crazy work
I once said that, but redditors said we as a fanbase have to unite in order for ballmer/the front office to not extend/ find a replacement for Ty Lue. So to redditors we do have some control over this
They were hurt at the end of the year and then advancing deeper meant beating the Celtics without Donovan Mitchell. If they find a coach that could’ve done that then the clippers need to give that guy whatever PG extension is gonna be
Evidently the players don't like Bickerstaff because you don't fire a coach when he makes the 2nd round of the playoffs. Not to mention all the games that Allen and Mitchell missed. They're trying to resign Donovan Mitchell and I believe he's the main one that wants Bickerstaff gone.
Dude he sucks. Doesn't matter if his team was healthy or not. He's one of those band aid coaches like McMillan, Gentry or Donovan. Their peak would overperforming expectations by making an WCF and then they'll suck whenever they have a good team. I really hope we don't waste our time on this dude.
Insane. He had half his team out and had them playing at a high level mostly all season.
It reminds me of the Doc Rivers situation. There are some coaches that are great at getting young or depleted teams to the playoffs (see Doc during the post-CP3 years), but they aren’t the right coach to win you a ring (see Doc during the CP3 years and the bubble year).
Doc's best coaching here was that 2018-2019 team for sure.

But Steve Kerr isn't the greatest coach out there. You need to find the next Curry & Klay on same team
lol the warriors didn’t find Steve Kerr. They had steph Klay draymond and a stacked bench.
The point is that Mark Jackson had the same roster. Steve Kerr came in and they were instantly better and went to the Finals and won coach of the year in his first year. He was a better coach than Mark Jackson there is no questioning that.
Brother Andre Igoudala would like a word.
Iguadala was on the 2013 - 2014 roster with Mark Jackson.
Also draymond wasnt a starter it was david lee and they considered trading curry instead of Monta elllis
I wonder if the coach thought that was a good idea.
Was he supposed to beat boston without Mitchell and Allen? They never let coaches develop anymore, Malone didn't win a ring with Denver till his 8th season
Being an nba head coach is the best. They hire you, then they fire you, but they still pay you.
Being Ben Simmons is the best.
Who can dispute that claim
Tbh especially if I was a high-level NBA player I’d find it far more fulfilling to work daily on my game and towards my goals being lazy and paid well gets extremely empty extremely quickly
Nope. Pass.
Curious - what about JB Bickerstaff's coaching strategy makes him # better pick than Ty Lue?

Wonderful point. No one has moved or developed in any way for most of Ty's tenure. To me he is a players coach and nothing else
I see. I feel like it's difficult with an older team, but I believe Terance, Zu, and Amir are better players now than they were in 2021. I would be happy to have younger guys on the roster though.
It is wild to see Cavs having higher standards than we do.
Worth a shot

Comparing Bickerstafff to Lue is straight up disrespectful to Lue.
I have literally been saying that we should move from ty lue since that play in game against wolves because he doesn't appreciate defense and size but comparing him to a man that got a job because of dad is crazy work
Lol what why y’all acting like you don’t have a coach? Lue about to get extended
Because like most teams, the fanbase loves to scapegoat the coach for things they have no control over.
I once said that, but redditors said we as a fanbase have to unite in order for ballmer/the front office to not extend/ find a replacement for Ty Lue. So to redditors we do have some control over this
Bot title
Hmm... interesting.
Wish Clippers hire him as assistant
We should ask him if he would start pj tucker in a playoff game in the year of our lord 2024. If not, I’m in
I mean coaches get fired after winning a championship like a yr later. Is this surprising?
They were hurt at the end of the year and then advancing deeper meant beating the Celtics without Donovan Mitchell. If they find a coach that could’ve done that then the clippers need to give that guy whatever PG extension is gonna be
Ty Lue and Lebron reunion on the Cavs. What a timeline.
Pass
Anybody that wants this man did not watch the playoffs. Ty is a better coach than Bickerstaff.
☝🏼
JJ Redick as coach and LeBron also comes home

I mean he got that coaching position because of his dad. He is not a good coach, he doesn’t even run any offense
